Yes, and to keep the FB page a little cleaner, when you are finished
 typing
your comment at the top of the email, if you do a control shift end at

 it

you can reply to that email, and it will show up as a comment. This

Is there a JAWS hotkey for quickly moving to the next or previous page of a
 multiple-page website?
At work I need to move between pages and don't find it efficient to deal
with the next or previous page links.
I tried the alt left arrow or right arrow, but that didn't work.
If there isn't such a hotkey, I humbly suggest such an animal.

Yahoo Messenger 9 has a big problem with a Class of the Instant Messenger

to use YM 10, not 9.

I am using Jaws 11 with Win 7 64 bit and have been annoyed by the numerous
times it loses focus but today has been unbelievable. It keeps flipping back
to the desktop constantly. In the middle of an email reply, a game, on the
Internet... (oops, just did it again) it keeps going back to the desktop. It
has done it about 6 times when I was on Facebook, twice when I was in the
middle of typing (just did it again!)I have not been able to accomplish
anything on the computer today. Any ideas why it is
Now it just flipped to the speaker volume dialog for no reason.

Now it just jumped to the start button.
4 times it has lost focus or opened other items in the last couple of
minutes while I was trying to type this email.

I don't know if it might be your issue or just a typo, but you've got two
m's at the end of .com in the mobile facebook url that you typed out. The
mobile site works fine for me even though I don't really use it.

It depends upon what you want. If you use your computer all the time in the
same place, then a desktop is the way to go. However, if you wish to move
around or take it somewhere else, then you'd want a laptop or net book.
It's all in how you use your PC.

WEST PALM BEACH, FL -- Want the best antivirus protection for your computer?

What could be better than a recommendation from some of the world's best

Our friends at Lifehacker.com recently asked geeks all over the world to

At the top of the list, with 23% of the votes, is AVG, which offers a free

Close behind at number two, with 22% of the votes, is Microsoft Security
Essentials, which is free for all Windows users.

Third is ESET NOD32, followed by antivirus programs by Avast! and Avira.

Good afternoon everyone.
I am writing to ask the following question.
On or about October 23rd of this year, I installed jaws 11 from the freedom
Scientifics web page. The download was installed successfully. However, I
have the following question. If I should ever have to do a repair of jaws
11 for any reason, where in jaws 11 would I go to perform this action
should I need too. As many of you know, there only shipping jaws 11 on cd
rom now, and if you don't have a DVD rom drive like I don't, you won't be

able to install it, unless you do it from there website like I did. So,
where do you go to find the setup button where it asks you if you want too
do a modify repair or remove option. I went into both of the jaws versions

of 10, and 11, and I didn't find the installation maintenance option at all.

I saw the tools submenu, hit enter key on it, but it wasn't in there either.

I'm using windows xp home, with all available service packs and critical
security updates installed.

Yes you can. Which sound card is your computer sounds coming out of now?
If it's the external, then do the following to set jaws to the internal.

Press insert j to open the jaws menu.

Pick the eternal sound card from the menu and hit enter.

You should now have your computer sounds on your external, assuming they

The answer there is, you got all the stuff that works the sound card
to one source. yes, that lets jaws work better. your box will run
much nicer to, because the only thing using ram now is jaws. Built in
stuff eats at ram, because they give it none of its own. your
external card had memorey so works just fine to make sound good.

 doing
this some of the lag in the computer, and a lot of jaws sluggishness has
gone away. I'm wondering if this is a normal result of having a
dedicated
sound card for jaws, or if it's more something to do with the
configuration
of my computer. What ever the end result is, it's awesome.

Re: [JAWS-Users] 2 sound card observations.

2009-10-29 Thread Jimmy Podsim
Yes you can. Which sound card is your computer sounds coming out of now?
If it's the external, then do the following to set jaws to the internal.

Press insert j to open the jaws menu.
U for utilities.
O for sound cards.
Pick the eternal sound card from the menu and hit enter.

You should now have your computer sounds on your external, assuming they
were there to start with, and jaws on your internal. If your external isn't
your computer sounds by default, then you need to go into control panel and
set it as the default synth. However, since it was installed after the
internal, it should have done this by default.

I've never used the tools because the only thing I've done with it is video
chat on windows live and Skype and it worked fine with them. It seems that
the cam integrates itself well into the programs and since it worked, I

We installed Office 2007 here a few months ago, and I do notice
sluggishness. I don't think it is a screen reader issue though. You
could probably smoke a cigarette before Outlook or any of the apps load.
Mail messages take a long time to open, but I notice that the
sluggishness is the most noticeable at the beginning, and things seem to
improve after a little while. I think that some of the problem with
Outlook 2007 has to do with the fact that it uses Word as its editor, so
you have to wait for Word to load in the background.

2009-10-07 Thread Jimmy Podsim
For one thing, it supports a lot of the newer features and ways of
programming or coding that are being used in many new sites. Also, there
are things in windows 7 that JAWS 10 can't deal with and JAWS 11 can.

To me, the most important reason to keep a screen reader up to date is
because we want to do what everybody else is doing, and if you stay with
something old that can't access the new technologies that are being used in
programs and on the web, then you are only holding yourself back.

Staying with an older screen reader and wanting to do what others are doing
with the new software is just like wanting to run windows 95 and trying to
install new software. Basically it's to keep up with technology and to be
more productive.

to scrape up the money to keep jaws updated. Personally I find the research
it feature a very useful tool and much quicker in finding information.
It's like a news portal, dictionary and encyclopedia at the touch of your
finger tips with just a stroke of a few keys. IE8 and some new programs are
starting to use features that JAWS 10 or lower will not be able to do, so
there is two arguments for...let's see if I can think of more. I have
noticed that IE8's performance and reading is better than it was in 10 and
more things seem to be more accessible on web pages. OH yeah, and the
landmarks feature, even though I haven't tried to figure that one out yet.
Well, maybe there are a couple of ideas that you can use.

[JAWS-Users] Braille displays and JAWS.

2009-10-07 Thread Jimmy Podsim
Hello guys and gals. I have a focus 40 display that I would like to learn
how to input from the display instead of the standard keyboard, or along
with the standard keyboard. However, I've never been lucky enough to learn
computer Braille. Where can one Find the info to learn how to do this. As
far as the letters go, I can type them, but I need to learn how to input
punctuations and such.

At work, they just installed Office 2007 sp 2. I'm using the latest version
of Jaws 10. Particularly in Outlook, I'm experiencing lots of sluggishness
when moving better emails and especially when opening emails. It seems to
take 10 or more seconds for focus to be set so that I can read the email.
Also, hitting control doesn't seem to stop the reading of the subject line
so that focus can shift to the message.

Is this unusual for sp2 and is there any setting I can change to address the
problem?

Thanks in advance.

Re: [JAWS-Users] facebook accessibility

2009-10-01 Thread Jimmy Podsim
I don't know how it works with jaws 7 on the main facebook site, however,
once your account is set up, there are 2 alternative sites you can use.

The Mobile site, which should work well with jaws 7.
http://m.facebook.com

And then there is their beta site that is much easier to use than the real
site.
http://lite.facebook.com

Note that you already have to have a facebook account for either of these
sites to work. There are many blind people using facebook, but most of them
use the mobile site. The only thing you don't get on the mobile site is the
applications and games.

Hi,

I'm running JAWS 9 on my Netbook running XP Home.

Question 1: JAWS say no links in any folder
When I am in Outlook 2003, when I am in any folder, JAWS will say no
links. In order to see the items, I need to press Function key 6. What
does this Function key do?

Question 2: Not keeping messages on the server
I have set up Outlook to not leave a copy of the message on the
server. However, when I go up to the server, THE MESSAGES ARE STILL
THERE *Yell*. Horror! I have to delete them again.
Not to leave a copy on the server:
The steps I take:
Alt to Tools
Email accounts
Change existing account
Next
More settings
Shift-tab
advance tab
Leave a copy on server (Not check)

Besides here, where else do I need to make the adjustments?

Oh, this same 2 also happened to my laptop which used to JAWS 10
(Gone now) and XP Professional.

 Thank you.

it will stop working in March of next year if you don't buy the full

Hi, I need to clarify something. What was the Windows 7 beta has expired
August 1 of this year. So what you actually have is the Windows 7 RC, or
release candidate. There are similar but important differences between the
beta and the RC. One good example is that the beta is a feature complete
(but not ready to be released) version whilst the RC (release candidate) is
essentially a dress rehearsal of what people will see when it's available to
the general public in under a month's time. Hope this clarifies things.

That could be because JAWS 7.1 don't support IE 8. IE 8 supports a lot of
new stuff on web sites, that 7 didn't. JAWS 7 does not have the built in

The basic training files for JAWS beta 2 are available as an update if you run
the jaws update feature.

Of course it says it's jaws basic training 1 2 and 3 but when you install it it
says it installed basic training 1 2 and 4.

Just thought I'd let everybody know encase you want them.

Hello list,

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed a slight sluggishness when using
jaws 11 as opposed to jfw 10?

I've been switching back and forth between both versions since somethings
like firefox and outlook I'm finding work better with 10.0 and when I'm
using 11, it's as though there's a little hesitation with the reading
commands. Especially in IE8 and in any sort of word processing app. I'm
usually running between 23 and 31 processes at any given time with both
versions. I'm running xp pro and office 2003. Nothing out of the ordinary.

It's nothing drastic, but enough to be noticeable.

I'm just curious if it may just be me.

Thanks,
Cristobal

Hi all,
I wanted to give feedback and and make suggestions to freedom scientific
about improving the research it feature in jaws 11. I heard in the podcast
they were thinking of introducing a feature where we could look up the
weather for our local city in anywhere in the world. I had the ideafor the
top news stories feature. If freedomscientific are able to make the weather
feature work, I was thinking why not have something where those of outside
America say those of us in the UK and Australia, could look up the top news
stories in those respective countries. I was going to write that in the bug
report form, but since it wasn't really a bug I was reporting, I didn't
think it was appropriate to put it there. so, where can I send my feedback
and suggestion?

Well, I was going to say it's working for me, however, it's being flakey for
some reason this morning.

Try this.

Press insert spacebar then the letter r.
Now you will have an edit box. Type the word in the edit box your looking
for and hit spacebar on ok.
When the next window opens use the arrow keys and select which one you want
to use, then click ok.
It should open the window with data in it.

If you want to look up weather, do the following:

INSERT + Space Bar, then press the letter R. You will be in an edit
field. Here you can type in your city, state. You can also enter a zip
code, airport code, or City Country. Once you press enter, you will land
in the list of Research it options. Choose the Weather and press enter.
You should get the weather back for all of these.

Hope this helps,

Has anyone noticed when using Outlook 2007 that JAWS does not announce blank
lines? Sometimes, at least for me, JAWS sometimes says nothing at all when

I am having another problem with Outlook where JAWS isn't reading by word

compose messages in Microsoft Word option is checked.

Thanks,

Hello everyone,

Has anyone noticed when using Outlook 2007 that JAWS does not announce blank
lines? Sometimes, at least for me, JAWS sometimes says nothing at all when
on blank lines.

I am having another problem with Outlook where JAWS isn't reading by word
when composing a message, but I want to make sure that isn't because the
compose messages in Microsoft Word option is checked.

Thanks,

Michael

[JAWS-Users] JAWS 11 beta 2, outlook 2007 and auto preview.

2009-09-08 Thread Jimmy.
Is anybody using outlook 2007 and the auto preview feature to preview the
first 2 or 3 lines of an email? I use this all the time because of lot's of
list traffic. It would not work for me in the first beta, and still don't
work in the second beta. I have submitted a report for the first beta, and
just completed one for the second. I'm wondering if anybody else is using
this feature and if it works for them. This is the first time I've ever had
problems with a beta, so I guess it's my turn for problems. Grin.

I don't have the direct link, but go to the main page.

Do insert f7 and press j. It should be the first link you come to.

If someone has the direct link to the beta, please post it. For some
reason, I can't seem to get to anything but 10. Thanks.

All,

We have just gone live with the first update to the public beta version
of JAWS 11. You can get this update two ways.

1. Use your check for update feature in the Help Menu of JAWS 11 Public
Beta version.
2. Go to the Download link for JAWS 11.0..536 and download the full
build to your machine and install it.

Note, you can install it right over top of the first one or you can
install it on a machine without having ever installed the first public
beta. Makes no difference.

The full list of enhancements will be posted to the What's New page on
September 9th. Below is the changes to the Research It feature which
we hope you will all look at and try out with the new build.

Regards,
Eric Damery
Freedom Scientific

Research It
Note: For a demonstration of Research It, listen to the August 2009
FSCast.

Features such as Web Slices in Internet Explorer 8 and gadgets saved in
your Windows Sidebar are intended to make it easy for you to quickly
obtain information. This material is presented in a format that is quick
to scan visually. However, when using assistive technology tools, there
is often extra information presented that is easier to ignore visually
than when listening or reading with braille.

Research It is a new feature that provides quick access to information
while also making it easy to return to your primary task. Use just a few
keystrokes to look up information and display salient data in the
Virtual Viewer. When you have finished researching, press another
keystroke to return to the task you were performing before the research
started. All that is required to use Research It is an Internet
connection.

There are multiple ways to launch and use Research It. By default,
Wiktionary is the primary look up source. This means that while the
cursor is on a word in a document or Web page, you can press the default
keystroke, INSERT+WINDOWS Key+R, to quickly lookup the Wiktionary
description for that word. You can always change the primary lookup
source at any time using the JAWS Configuration Manager, which lets you
select which lookup source to use as the JAWS default or as the default
for individual applications. As you become more familiar with Research
It, and as more lookup modules are created and made available to you,
you will want to change the default look up source used by JAWS, or just
use a different look up source on the fly.

The most efficient way to search for a term is to use the new layered
keystroke, INSERT+SPACEBAR, R. By pressing and releasing
INSERT+SPACEBAR, and then pressing R, you can open the Research It edit
field to type a word or expression of interest. This can be a zip code,
or city and state, or city and country that can be used with the Weather
look up tool to read a forecast, or a date that is used to view baseball
or football schedules and scores, or a word to use with the Wikipedia
search query to view its meaning or description. After viewing these
results, press ESC to close the Virtual Viewer window and return to your
original focus point.

If you are a software developer or script developer, you can create and
customize your own lookup module DLL and tailor it to your
organization's needs. For example, if your company specializes in
medical equipment, you can create a lookup source that is essentially a
glossary of medical and industry terms. A developer's guide that
outlines formatting for rule sets and debugging techniques is available
at Research It Developer's Guide.

The next section provides examples of how to use Research It. If you
need more information, refer to the Research It topic in the JAWS help
file.

Research It Examples
The following shows how you can use the Weather, Wikipedia, NFL Scores,
and Reuters Top News Stories search options in Research It to look up
specific information.

Use the Weather lookup source to receive the current weather forecast
for any location based on city name, airport code, or zip code. The
following example uses the INSERT+SPACEBAR, R keystroke.

Press INSERT+SPACEBAR, R to open the Research It edit field.
In the edit field, type your current location, for example, St.
Petersburg, Florida, or your

Same here. Using outlook 2003 and in both betas, the text isn't being read

another later today.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Turning on BCC in Outlook 2003 and 2007

2009-09-08 Thread Jimmy.
In 2007 hit the alt key then arrow over to options. Now down arrow and then
right arrow until you hear fields, show bcc and hit enter. Now your bcc
field should show.

In 2003 I think you do an alt v then arrow to headers, right arrow and arrow
down to show all and hit enter. The last is from memory, so it might not be
exactly correct.

Hi

I would like to know how to turn BCC on in Microsoft Outlook. This is for
two different Microsoft Outlook programs, each being operated with different
versions of JAWS. One is Outlook 2003 with JAWS 8.0 and the other is Outlook
2007 with JAWS 10.

Thanks

2009-09-08 Thread Jimmy.
Hmm, I was thinking the opposite, but then it could be the sound card as
well. To bad they can't make eloquence do the inflections and pauses that
real speak does in open book. If the realspeak solo would read in jaws like
it does in open book, that would be a rockin deal.
