Good afternoon everyone. I am writing to ask the following question. On or about October 23rd of this year, I installed jaws 11 from the freedom Scientifics web page. The download was installed successfully. However, I have the following question. If I should ever have to do a repair of jaws 11 for any reason, where in jaws 11 would I go to perform this action should I need too. As many of you know, there only shipping jaws 11 on cd rom now, and if you don't have a DVD rom drive like I don't, you won't be able to install it, unless you do it from there website like I did. So, where do you go to find the setup button where it asks you if you want too do a modify repair or remove option. I went into both of the jaws versions of 10, and 11, and I didn't find the installation maintenance option at all. I saw the tools submenu, hit enter key on it, but it wasn't in there either. I'm using windows xp home, with all available service packs and critical security updates installed. Re: [JAWS-Users] 2 sound card observations.
You have to set your default sound card for your computer sounds and then if you are using jaws 10 or 11, do the following. press insert j for the jaws menu. press u for utilities. Press o for sound cards. Now arrow down to the sound card that you want jaws to use and press enter on it. Bingo, You now have it set to use it's own sound card. -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Don Risavy, Jr. Sent: Saturday, October 24, 2009 12:07 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] 2 sound card observations. For one thing, it supports a lot of the newer features and ways of programming or coding that are being used in many new sites. Also, there are things in windows 7 that JAWS 10 can't deal with and JAWS 11 can. To me, the most important reason to keep a screen reader up to date is because we want to do what everybody else is doing, and if you stay with something old that can't access the new technologies that are being used in programs and on the web, then you are only holding yourself back. Staying with an older screen reader and wanting to do what others are doing with the new software is just like wanting to run windows 95 and trying to install new software. Basically it's to keep up with technology and to be more productive. -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Kimsan Sent: Wednesday, October 07, 2009 2:23 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] jaws 11 Hi, I was wondering, what is all of the excitement over jaws 11? Yes I do know about the money. Somehow the wife and I always seem to manage to scrape up the money to keep jaws updated. Personally I find the research it feature a very useful tool and much quicker in finding information. It's like a news portal, dictionary and encyclopedia at the touch of your finger tips with just a stroke of a few keys. IE8 and some new programs are starting to use features that JAWS 10 or lower will not be able to do, so there is two arguments for...let's see if I can think of more. I have noticed that IE8's performance and reading is better than it was in 10 and more things seem to be more accessible on web pages. OH yeah, and the landmarks feature, even though I haven't tried to figure that one out yet. I've been switching back and forth between both versions since somethings like firefox and outlook I'm finding work better with 10.0 and when I'm using 11, it's as though there's a little hesitation with the reading commands. Especially in IE8 and in any sort of word processing app. I'm usually running between 23 and 31 processes at any given time with both versions. I'm running xp pro and office 2003. Nothing out of the ordinary. It's nothing drastic, but enough to be noticeable. I'm just curious if it may just be me. Sometimes, at least for me, JAWS sometimes says nothing at all when on blank lines. I am having another problem with Outlook where JAWS isn't reading by word when composing a message, but I want to make sure that isn't because the compose messages in Microsoft Word option is checked. [JAWS-Users] JAWS 11 beta 2, outlook 2007 and auto preview.
Is anybody using outlook 2007 and the auto preview feature to preview the first 2 or 3 lines of an email? I use this all the time because of lot's of list traffic. It would not work for me in the first beta, and still don't work in the second beta. I have submitted a report for the first beta, and just completed one for the second. I'm wondering if anybody else is using this feature and if it works for them. This is the first time I've ever had problems with a beta, so I guess it's my turn for problems. Grin. I don't have the direct link, but go to the main page. Do insert f7 and press j. It should be the first link you come to. You can get this update two ways. 1. Use your check for update feature in the Help Menu of JAWS 11 Public Beta version. 2. Go to the Download link for JAWS 11.0..536 and download the full build to your machine and install it. Note, you can install it right over top of the first one or you can install it on a machine without having ever installed the first public beta. Makes no difference. The full list of enhancements will be posted to the What's New page on September 9th. Below is the changes to the Research It feature which we hope you will all look at and try out with the new build. Regards, Eric Damery Freedom Scientific Research It Note: For a demonstration of Research It, listen to the August 2009 FSCast. Features such as Web Slices in Internet Explorer 8 and gadgets saved in your Windows Sidebar are intended to make it easy for you to quickly obtain information. This material is presented in a format that is quick to scan visually. However, when using assistive technology tools, there is often extra information presented that is easier to ignore visually than when listening or reading with braille. Research It is a new feature that provides quick access to information while also making it easy to return to your primary task. Use just a few keystrokes to look up information and display salient data in the Virtual Viewer. When you have finished researching, press another keystroke to return to the task you were performing before the research started. All that is required to use Research It is an Internet connection. There are multiple ways to launch and use Research It. By default, Wiktionary is the primary look up source. This means that while the cursor is on a word in a document or Web page, you can press the default keystroke, INSERT+WINDOWS Key+R, to quickly lookup the Wiktionary description for that word. You can always change the primary lookup source at any time using the JAWS Configuration Manager, which lets you select which lookup source to use as the JAWS default or as the default for individual applications. As you become more familiar with Research It, and as more lookup modules are created and made available to you, you will want to change the default look up source used by JAWS, or just use a different look up source on the fly. The most efficient way to search for a term is to use the new layered keystroke, INSERT+SPACEBAR, R. By pressing and releasing INSERT+SPACEBAR, and then pressing R, you can open the Research It edit field to type a word or expression of interest. This can be a zip code, or city and state, or city and country that can be used with the Weather look up tool to read a forecast, or a date that is used to view baseball or football schedules and scores, or a word to use with the Wikipedia search query to view its meaning or description. After viewing these results, press ESC to close the Virtual Viewer window and return to your original focus point. If you are a software developer or script developer, you can create and customize your own lookup module DLL and tailor it to your organization's needs. For example, if your company specializes in medical equipment, you can create a lookup source that is essentially a glossary of medical and industry terms. A developer's guide that outlines formatting for rule sets and debugging techniques is available at Research It Developer's Guide. The next section provides examples of how to use Research It. If you need more information, refer to the Research It topic in the JAWS help file. Research It Examples The following shows how you can use the Weather, Wikipedia, NFL Scores, and Reuters Top News Stories search options in Research It to look up specific information. Use the Weather lookup source to receive the current weather forecast for any location based on city name, airport code, or zip code. The following example uses the INSERT+SPACEBAR, R keystroke. Press INSERT+SPACEBAR, R to open the Research It edit field. In the edit field, type your current location, for example, St. Petersburg, Florida, or your

Re: [JAWS-Users] Turning on BCC in Outlook 2003 and 2007
In 2007 hit the alt key then arrow over to options. Now down arrow and then right arrow until you hear fields, show bcc and hit enter. Now your bcc field should show. In 2003 I think you do an alt v then arrow to headers, right arrow and arrow down to show all and hit enter. The last is from memory, so it might not be exactly correct. Re: [JAWS-Users] More JAWS 11 Beta Issues With Outlook 2007
Hmm, I was thinking the opposite, but then it could be the sound card as well. To bad they can't make eloquence do the inflections and pauses that real speak does in open book. If the realspeak solo would read in jaws like it does in open book, that would be a rockin deal.
