Thanks for all of this - I now have my emails saying who they are from etc but now although both email accounts are shown, the only way to see all of my messages is to have all inboxes showing because otherwise I don't think read messages show up. I will definitely listen to the MP3's but currently trying to sort out my laptop after a total hard-drive crash. So this bit more info would be highly appreciated : how do I get the two folders to show up one beneath the other with all of the folders within each, inbox, sent items etc. I had the problem like the example you showed where it said columns unavailable. Rafanatic -Original Message- From: inthane Sent: Sunday, August 28, 2011 9:18 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Help With Display of Emails. ok the big trouble is I don't know and neither do you, the "translation" from menu's to ribbons, but I have some tutorials on windows live mail, so hopefully one of them will give you the information you need. first is: for an audio tutorial on using windows live mail! go too: www.accessibleworld.org and look for the presentation by someone named Mr. Asner. Its an MP3 file that you can download and listen too. here is another good one: http://email.about.com/od/windowsmailtips/Windows_Mail_Tips_Tricks_and_Secrets.htm ok now this sounds very similar to your troubles and the fix for them: ok, this is a corrected and headers removed version of a series of Emails concerning the "HOW it reads" and the altering of this in windows live mail, I've put them back in the order they came in instead of the last is first chronology they wind up in to make reading easier for folks. starting in correct order from first request to end of problem fix, first post: hello folks in windows vista and XP I was able to sort how emails were viewed and read by jaws. my emails are now being read by. the name of the sender first then the date then the time then the subject and then which folder it is in. can I sort this so the subject is being read first then the sender and then the date and time if I want it. or maybe stop the date and time and folder which it is being read from not to be announced. I cant find any options in the view menu to do this. many thanks in advance. regards Vincent next: Hi Vincent, you can open the Columns dialog from the view menu - I think this allows you to do what you want to do, David. next: hello David it is saying all the time that columns are unavailable. I thought that was were I done it in vista and XP. but it says unavailable. can you suggest how to activate this. regards Vincent Next: this is one thing to try: 1. Open the layout dialog on the view menu. 2. Move to the Message list button, and press it using spacebar. 3. When you do this, the button expands and shows some text and controls which Jaws (and probably other screen readers don't automatically read. What's there is the text Show messages using: followed by a group of three radio buttons: Choose view automatically; two-line view; and one-line view. By default it seems to be set to choose view automatically, and on my machine if it's set to that or the one-line view, then I can access the columns dialog. However if it's set to two line view, the the columns dialog is unavailable, and the reading order of subject, date etc is as you've previously described. The easiest was to set an option is to use it's access key: Choose view automatically (alt+u), two-line view (alt+t), one-line view (alt+o). Once you've used an access key jaws reads it, and you can the use up and down arrows to read the other options if you want to. (The other way of accessing the options if to route jaws to cursor, read a word at a time to get to any word in the options, and then route pc to jaws cursor). best wishes, David. ok, hope these help you with that trouble! you may be able to find a list for the ribbon commands on the microsoft site, I have one, but its for word 2010 and its ribbon, not WLM. the last thing is there is a program that returns the ribbons to menu like arrangements if you would want to install it, but I'd really try to get used to the ribbons since more and more things are starting to use them! take care, inthaneelf . Re: [JAWS-Users] YouTube to MP3 Converter.
I've just saved this in my favourites to have a look presumably to keep something from youtube you have to go to the share or imbed link like you do to convert with the youtube to mp3 converter cos that's where the link to what you want to keep comes up is that right? Thanks for all of you who told me what it is. One of the YouTube things I tried to convert was too long as it is over 20 minutes, a friend converted it for me to a different format which did play and stupidly I left it, with a lot of other stuff, in internet download manager in the music part but when my laptop is back working and I use my key in the registration of that programme hopefully all of my downloads will be there. I am running windows 7, jaws 12, latest update, and office 2007 on a 64 bit machine. I am posting this here, because I'm not sure if my problem is a jaws issue, or a Microsoft one. Sometimes, in Windows live mail, 2011, I get a message that says, an unknown error has occurred. Windows live mail cannot open this message, please try again. So I do, and most of the time, it works the second time, but sometimes, that message just won't open at all. That is annoying, because what if it were important? Secondly, sometimes a message just won't delete. I know that shift delete will delete it, but you should be able to just hit delete to get rid of it. Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook Again.
Thanks for those Rules Brian will try them out. Mandy. - Original Message - From: "Brian Lee" To: Sent: Friday, April 17, 2009 2:47 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook Again. Hello Mandy, I recently wrote out the steps for creating a rule in Microsoft outlook 2003 for one of my clients. It was a rule to move all attachments that arrive into a separate folder. The steps are shown below. You can make different choices in the "select condition" and "select action" steps to create different rules. Before creating a rule to move files with attachments to a specific folder, the destination folder should already be created. If a target folder needs to be created then here are steps for doing so: 1. Use CTRL+shift+E to bring up the "create new folder" dialog box. 2. Type a name for the new folder in the edit box that comes into focus. 3. Use tab key twice to move to a list of folders. The new folder will be a subfolder to whichever folder is selected in this list. For example, if "inbox" is selected then the new folder will be a subfolder to the inbox folder. To make the new folder appear on the same level as "inbox", "drafts", "deleted items" etc., use the left arrow key until you hear "level 0 personal folders opened." 4. Use tab key to move to the OK button and press enter key. Here are the steps for creating a rule in Outlook 2003 for moving all messages with attachments from the inbox when they arrive to a specific e-mail folder. 1. Open tools, arrow down to "rules and alerts" and press enter to open the choice. 2. Tab to "new rule" button and press enter. 3. In the group of radio buttons use down arrow to start from a blank rule. 4. Use tab key to move to a group of radio buttons for the rule to run when messages arrive or when they are sent. Use "check messages when they arrive." Using the arrow key to move to the choice selects the choice if it is a radio button. 5. Tab to the "next" button and press spacebar. 6. In the "select condition" step use down arrow key to move to the "which has an attachment" choice and use spacebar to check the choice. Use tab to the "next button and press spacebar. 7.In the "select action" step use spacebar to check "move it to the specified folder." 8. Use tab key once to move to where you can edit the rule description. Press spacebar to activate the underlined choice. A list of folders will appear. 9. Use up and down arrow keys to find the folder where you want messages with attachments saved to and then tab to OK and press enter key. 10. Use tab key to move to the "next" button and press enter. 11. Ignore steps 11 and 12 if you don't want to use any exceptions. You will be offered a list of possible exceptions. Use down arrow key to move to the applicable exception and press spacebar. Do the same for additional exceptions. 12. Use tab key once to the list of actions. Use down arrow to find your action for the exception and press spacebar. You can then specify the exception such as find the names of people that you don't want the rule to apply to. 13. Whether or not you made exceptions use tab to the "next" button and press enter key. 14. Specify a name for the rule in the edit box that appears. Either choose the suggested name or type one to be used. 15. Use tab key once and if you want to apply the rule on messages already in the inbox then use spacebar on the checkbox. 16. Use tab key to the "finish" button and press spacebar. 17. Use tab to move to the "apply" button and use spacebar. 18. If you want to run the rule on messages already in the inbox then use tab key to the "run rule now" button and press spacebar. Otherwise, use tab key to the OK button and press spacebar. It is usually a good idea to close the program and then start it again after making such changes as creating rules. Re: [JAWS-Users] I've killed jaws, good.
I installed NVDA just out of interest but whilst it was running the usual insert f4 to quit Jaws would not work so I had both running. Is the only way to actually use NVDA to uncheck the start Jaws with windows option? I am just looking at this out of interest and because I am hoping to teach people the computer with a charity UCanDoIT and some of them may use NVDA is it a free programme? Are there many keystrokes to learn? I was interested by the accent as it sounds very English but a little like a darlic. Hi Siobhan, If you're able to, try to get NVDA onto your system, it'll give you the same accessibility as Jaws, and allow you to affect a repair of it, if it's at all possible. I am going to try and send it over e-mail, but if I can't do it, I'll send a link where you can download it. If you have Skype, send me you're Skype I.D., or your MSN contact information, and we'll see if we can't get you NVDA over those mediums. Take care, and good luck. Re: [JAWS-Users] [JAWS-USERS] auto sizer
Hi David. I have tried to use auto-sizer but it totally messes up my laptop - I am using a Dell with Jaws 10 latest build - if I install auto-sizer one of the things that I cannot do is use my spell-check in Outlook Express as when I look for a word it will say blank - also it seems to prevent me reading messages properly with Windows Live Messenger and when I open an email in Outlook Express it takes me to a different one. I have tried altering some of the settings in options but my husband who also uses a Dell but a desktop has no problems with this programme. Would the earlier version behave differently do you think and if so where do I get it as I've only tried the version I find by googling it. Re: [JAWS-Users] avast or AVG revisited
I am using Avast in preference to AVG 8 because I've been told by a computer Techy who also knows a lot about screen-readers etc that AVG8 uses up a colossal amount of memory and Avast updates at times when the computer is more or less idle to put it in a not very technical way. I also like the fact that it tells you it's updated and, if it detects something or you try to open an unsafe attachment there's a siren sound which certainly alerts you! It doesn't seem to me to be updating like it used to. Perhaps there hasn't been any updates lately, however, I do not know if this is so or not. I have pondered using AVG, however I am given to understand that it is not accessible with Jaws. I would like to know if the later is true at this time, or not. Although AVG had a few false positives avast has had more in the past 6 months or so than AVG did in to years. Yes at the time there was a major issue with AVG 8 but FS has done something on their end to repair what the AVG people broke if I understand things correctly. I'm looking for feedback and opinions especially if anybody out there has used both products over the years. I could go back to AVG easy enough but I am also considering some other folks who tend to follow my guidance because I do not want to steer them wrong either. Re: [JAWS-Users] Copying Text.
Hi thanks this has solved it for me. I don't think I will need to report it as a Jaws 10 problem now although having said that, when I tried one of the alternative voices which I quite liked, I did seem to have some trouble with selected text but I don't see how altering a voice would do that. I love not having to enter to get into forms mode though. Brilliant and it seems to make things faster. Mandy.
