There must be something I am missing. Using windows 7, Jaws 15 MS office

several hours over the last month trying to get these instructions to work.

Hi Roj,
To get JAWS to read column row titles, do the following.
1. Click on the cell that intersects the title row and column. In most cases
cell A1.
2. Right click and select Define Name
3. Type Title.. without the quotes in the name field. It is important to type
the 2 dots after Title. As the first dot defines the row and the second dot
defines the column used.
4. Tab until you hear OK and press Enter.
5. Save your worksheet by hitting Ctrl + S.
The procedure only works if you can edit and save the worksheet you are reading.

I have never been able to get the procedure currently written in the tutorial
to work. I have went back to the old way.
Set the cursor on the cell that is common to the row and column that you want.
Hold down the alt, jaws key and control key and press C for column and R for
row. It is like playing a piano but it works.

Is there a scanning package that works with JAWS for scanning documents and filing them. I want to get rid of paper and keep a copy of the documents on the computer. I think one way you can do this is to: 1 press F12 to save the document. 2 tab to the tools button and press the space bark 3 Arrow down to the general options and type your passwords. My Excel is the 2003 edition. Any help or pointers would be appreciated. Yes, that is what I noticed as well. I got better results when I chose standard. Insert 5 will give you the colors and insert F will give you font style along with the colors. I guess it just depends on how much information you want. Mike, You might check the state of the scroll lock key. On a standard keyboard it is between the print screen and pause break keys. Pressing the key twice quickly will change the state and JAWS will tell you the new state. Hope this helps. The scroll lock should be off. You have to press it twice quickly for JAWS to change the status and tell you what the new status is. I first researched the application...Google worked well for doing that. If it was something that proved to not be crucial for the laptop, I first removed it from start-up in MSCONFIG. Then I uninstalled it. You would not necessarily have to uninstall it. I just chose to have it gone as I was never going to use it. I hope this helps. Reading HTML Tables The default setting for reading HTML table titles has changed so that JAWS now conforms to industry defined HTML standards by only reading table headers that are properly marked up. While the default setting is now set to Only Marked Headers, you can continue to use earlier functionality for reading HTML tables if you are more comfortable with those settings. Next, press SPACEBAR to cycle through and select a new setting, and then ENTER to save the change. Remember that you can always use Personalized Settings (INSERT+SHIFT+V) to customize how JAWS reads table column and row headers on any given Web site, without modifying how JAWS reads table headers on other Web sites. NCAA Football Lookup Source in Research It NCAA Football is a new addition to Research It. Use it to search for the schedules or results of your favorite college football teams. Because of the number of college teams, there are several ways to get search results. One way is to open Research It (INSERT+SPACEBAR, R), type a date using the mm/dd/ date format, and then select NCAA Football. This shows a full list of games scheduled or played during that week. Another is to leave the search field blank and see schedules or results for the current week. The last way is to search for your favorite college teams by typing team names separated by a semicolon. This shows the current week's schedules or results for those schools. For example, type Florida; Texas; California to view results for teams with Florida, Texas, or California in their names. Search results display in the Virtual Viewer as a link so that you can open a Web browser and read a recap of past games or a preview of future games. Press CTRL+DOWN ARROW to move between the dates displayed for the week. Update to NBA Scores and NHL Scores The NBA Scores and NHL Scores lookup sources in Research It have been expanded and now provide links to box scores and game summaries. Improvements with Adobe Flash JAWS can now announce buttons and other items that did not work correctly on some Flash Web sites. In Word 2007 in the save as dialog box, one of the options is PDF. I do not have 2002 so can't check but maybe one of the options is to save as PDF in that version as well. Add a $ sign to the formula. Basically the cell that you do not want to change needs a $ sign before the column and row coordinates. What I wish I could do is get rid of the stuff on the left side of the page--that Web address and home split button you see. Because that actually seems to be where the problem lies--plus it is annoying because you can't just go to links like you could in I.E. 6. What seems to happen is, it tells you you're on the right page, but going past that home split thing it shows nothing. I sometimes see links if I turn off and on the virtual cursor, or if I hit F5 to refresh. But often I can't get the links and text bodies of the pages to show up. I know it went to the right page but something is either blocking it or something is maybe set wrong in config. Now the odd thing is, usually when using my special version of Jaws 8 this doesn't happen; however I can't use Jaws 8 to find a favorite because hitting alt and the letter a it doesn't read the list of favorites. So if anyone can help resolve these issues would appreciate it. Also does F.S. recommend anything regarding tool bars? Should they be locked, and which ones would one use when browsing with Jaws? I just wondered if that had any difference in my not getting links to come up. Thanks. To answer your tax question...I have not had much luck with the stand alone programs. I did find this year that both TurboTax and TaxAct websites for filing are accessible with JAWS. Even TurboTax's free site worked well with JAWS. There are a list of free providers through irs.gov if you meet the income requirements. On my computer they SD card shows up as a drive if you go into My computer. Just select the drive (on mine it is drive G) and hit enter. To turn off Auto Forms Mode do the following: From the IE window press insert F2 and then select configuration manager from the list. From the Set Options Menu, select forms mode options. Un check the enable auto forms mode check box. tab to ok. Press Alt F4 to close the configuration manager. When asked to save your changes, press yes. Press Insert + F4 to unload JAWS. Setting up a hot key for the different versions is the quickest way to launch them after JAWS has been unloaded. I use the version number as my hot key example alt, control 9 to launch JAWS 9. [JAWS-Users] Activation problem
Hi everyone, I was upgraded to JAWS 10 at work today. I am having trouble with the activation. I have tried doing the Internet activation and received the message that it worked, but JAWS is still in 40 minute mode. I then went to fsactivate.com and put in my authorization number and locking code to get my authorization number. I entered this into JAWS and again was told my authorization was successful. JAWS is still in 40 minute mode. I restarted my computer and tried a second time. I have administration rights. I, in the past, have had no problems activating JAWS. does anyone have any ideas?
