Re: [JAWS-Users] Dektalk Synthesizer problem

2018-06-29 Thread Shai
Hello,
What issue are you having with the DecTalk external synthesizer and
JAWS? I am using a DecTalk external synthesizer and I am not having
any issue with it. The machine is using Windows10 1803 and the latest
version of JAWS 2018.
Do you have a braille display by chance? I noticed that sometimes the
comport for the USB serial port and Bluetooth get conflicted which
makes the DecTalk express not work. If this occurs, removing the
Bluetooth device from that comport if it's already on another port in
ports and devices in device manager and restarting the computer
resolves it for me.

Re: [JAWS-Users] attachment unavailable to save in wlm any suggestions?

2018-06-21 Thread Shai
Hello Janie,
When the message with the attachment is open, try pressing insert with
a to bring the attachment into view or tabbing to the attachment
itself and pressing shift with f10 or the applications key on it. I am
thinking that this should bring up a context menu where one of the

I have not used Windows live mail myself but this is just a guess that

[JAWS-Users] creating an email signature with Outlook2013 JAWS2018

2018-04-08 Thread Shai
Hello,
I am attempting to create an email signature in Outlook2013 with
JAWS2018 however, I am noticing that the edit field for adding text to
the signature is not being announced by JAWS. The one time I did get
the edit field announced, JAWS would not speak the characters I typed.
Has anyone had success creating a signature in this program?
I am attempting to create the signature in the following way:
1. Open Outlook and press control n for new mail.
2. Press alt n to get to the insert tab and press the tab key until I
hear signature submenu and press enter.
3. Press enter on the signatures... option
4. Tab to the new button and press enter to type the name of what I
would like to call the signature and tab to the ok button and press
enter.
5. From here I am attempting to add text to my signature but I am not
able to do so.
Thank you in advance for any responses

Re: [JAWS-Users] Turning on and off the screen shade

Hello,
The most effective means I have found for confirming whether the
screen shade is on or off is to go into the quick settings menu with
an insert plus v or capslock plus v if you are using the laptop layout
and in the search field type shade. Next, down arrow once and JAWS
should state whether it is checked or not if it is pressing the space
bar on it to uncheck it and then tabbing to the ok button should
disable it.
Hope this helps

Besides the auto-fill issue, I do not believe that there are any other

it would have been released through the JAWS updates feature rather

Hello George,
That's correct; in the JAWS2018 build prior to build 42 released
yesterday auto-fill in Outlook2016 Office365 was broken. This is when
one enters an address in the to or cc fields and suggestions are
announced by JAWS for the address entered.
To resolve this issue, one should download build 42 from the
freedomscientific website and install over the top of JAWS2018. JAWS18
is also broken with this feature and my understanding is that an
update for this should be released soon. I just got off the phone
earlier with a technical support rep and this is what I was advised

Re: [JAWS-Users] Focus 14 versus 40

2017-06-29 Thread Shai
Hi,
Could you give us some more information such as what will you be using
this display for? Will you be using it with your computer for reading
documents/text or solely with a mobile device where you are on the go
often?
In my opinion, I would say that if you are reading documents and
information on a computer or even with a mobile device where you are
not on the go as often, get the 40 cell display. The 14 is shorter and
you will have to pan the display more to get more text on a line.
To keep this discussion JAWS relevant, both of these will work with
JAWS either way.

Re: [JAWS-Users] questions about office 365 repost

2017-06-23 Thread Shai
Hello Vicki,
Office365 personal allows one to only install a copy of office on one
PC and one mobile device or tablet, while the home version allows for
installing on five computers or mobile devices. On the personal, you
get 1 TB of onedrive storage for you. On the home version each person
gets 1 TB of onedrive storage and you should be able to share the
subscription with your friend as long as she has a Microsoft account
ie @outlook.com account but I would gather instructions on this so
that you are aware how to do this. If she installs office on her
computer and then on a mobile device, it would count against your
subscription.
The key card is only for a stand-alone office that one use to be able
to buy on cd. In my experience, I have seen this only allow for
installation on one computer. My understanding is that feature updates
also do not arrive as quickly or at all with this version of office.
To activate office, one would have to enter the key card number into
the product and it would inform you where to go to download this copy
once the card is received in the mail.
As you would be receiving Office2016 with any of these options, JAWS18
would be the only version that would work.

[JAWS-Users] different first page word2016 with JAWS18

2017-03-30 Thread Shai
Hello,
I am attempting to have a different first page in my document where
page 2 will be page 1 etc. with Jaws18 and Word2016. How do I go about
doing this? I tried the steps in the article from Microsoft for
inserting a page number and then I pressed alt q to search for
different first page and pressed enter but it seems that after I
selected different first page, and then used my up and down arrow
keys, JAWS still read the same page 2. Also, is utilizing my up and
down arrow keys the best means of confirming this information? How can
I confirm that the page number is right aligned at the top edge? I saw
some information that alt delete should be able to give me this
information?

Hello Arianna,
I did not have an issue with the Reuters look-up source timing out but
I did notice that the response time was slightly longer and not as
quick as one of the other sources (CNET) would have been.
The only solution I can recommend is that you try restarting JAWS or

but I would also make sure that the machine that you are trying to
perform the research it look-up from has a solid Internet connection.

article here which states that it can even though it might be for a
prior version of Windows such as 8.1: the link to it is
http://www.intowindows.com/download-movie-maker-for-windows-10/ I
recall that Windows Movie Maker on older versions of Windows had been
accessible so I am hoping that this one is. To get you started I also
included a youtube video of a series on the older Movie Maker and JAWS
so that you would at least have a guide: the link to this is
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEKyqp0miK8some
Others might suggest another video editor but Movie Maker as I recall
was the most accessible with JAWS on older versions of Windows and I
am hoping that Live Movie Maker is just the same.

Re: [JAWS-Users] OFFICE 2010 WILL LOSE MICROSOFT SUPPORT

2016-12-10 Thread Shai
Hello,
Just a slight correction; with this office365 subscription, one is not
compelled to store their files online although they can do so if they
choose. The purpose of the subscription is to be able to get the
office versions at a more reasonable cost. The only item that is
online is the download and installation of office new updates are
delivered automatically and an alert is displayed when a new office
version is available. I have not encountered this yet to be able to
discuss its accessibility but I have installed office from the website
and it is very accessible. I too like to store my files on the pc but
I have office through the university's Office365 subscription. If I
wanted to, I could elect to sign in to OneDrive where I would have
storage and could save my files there.
If one is at all interested in the office subscription options and
what is included, they should go to office365.com
I hope that helps

Re: [JAWS-Users] speaking of IE

2016-12-08 Thread Shai
Hello Bill,
Since your email came in with the speaking of IE subject, I assume
that you are attempting to port your Internet addresses ie bookmarks
from Internet Explorer on your older machine to Internet Explorer on
your new laptop.
To do this, first make sure that you have a USB flash drive connected
and go to the run dialog by holding down Windows key and r. Next, type
favorites into the box and press enter. You will now be in your
favorites folder. Backspace once and your list of folders will display
with the favorites folder highlighted. Press ctrl c to copy this
folder.
On your new laptop: 1. do the same as before only this time paste
(ctrl v) the folder into this list of folders. It should ask you are
you sure you want to replace this folder hit yes and your addresses or
bookmarks should be imported.
Like Mike said earlier it would help if you gave more specifics, but I
am thinking that this is what you would like to do since your email is
prefixed with this subject.
Hope this helps

Hello,
I am running the latest JAWS 18 update on a Windows10 pc and I am not
having any issues with Internet Explorer11 reloading. I just installed
Firefox on here a few weeks ago with the latest version 50 update
applied and have not had issues with this browser yet. I would attempt
to delete your temporary Internet files and cookies in both browsers
to see if the issue is resolved. I would also make sure that the home
pages that you start to do not contain many ads and that you do not
have many which are opening at one time.

[JAWS-Users] A JAWS 18 tandem question

2016-12-05 Thread Shai
Hello all,
In JAWS18, is it possible for a person using the home edition license
to be a controller for a person who is using the professional edition
of JAWS? Thinking that this was not an issue and that I would not know
which license they were using unless I asked, I attempted to assist a
friend of mine and for every meeting ID I had given from the Tandem
Center, the facility for allow access to my computer stated that the
meeting ID was not able to be found. He was able to call support later
on that day and utilize tandem with them.
Thank you in advance for any responses

[JAWS-Users] Voice samples of the new Vocalizer2 voices

Hello,
I know that Jonathan did an FScastin which he demonstrated some of the
new Vocalizer voices; however, I was wondering if there was a means of
listening to a sample of the different voices on the FreedomScientific

these voices free of any demos but it does not seem as though this
page is present for JAWS18.
   Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Jim,
Yes, this works for me too. Although I use Outlook2013 here, I found
that the Mail app in Windows10 is nice since it syncs with my Google
contacts. I can just type in the few letters of the person's name or
address and press enter. JAWS will then insert it for me.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Accessibility of MS Outlook web app with JAWS

2016-10-14 Thread Shai
Hello,
Outlook web app in the web browser is mostly accessible. One item
thanks to an article I read which assisted me was to hide the reading
pane. You can read this article at
https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Use-Outlook-Web-App-email-with-a-screen-reader-d039e28a-3238-4214-bdb0-3a2533a7d7a2
be aware that at least in my experience after I hid the reading pane
and saved the setting, I had to sign out and sign back in to the
Office365 web interface for the setting to take affect. In this
article, it advises to turn off the JAWS virtual cursor insert z for
reading messages. I did not have to do this. Instead, when I got to
the conversation list box, I pressed enter to enable forms mode and
used my up and down arrows to find and press enter on the conversation
I wanted to read. The only trouble I had was needing to go into the
address book when composing email. JAWS states to use up and down
arrows to find a contact but I was unable to do this. You can also try
typing a contact name in the to field and it may or may not be found.
It seems at least in my case that it depends on whether this contact
has been emailed before.

Re: [JAWS-Users] opening pdf files on IE webpage

2016-07-21 Thread Shai
Hello Vicki,
If you go into Adobe Reader without a document open and open the
accessibility set up assistant under the edit menu, there is an option
that allows for customizing accessibility for screen readers. One of
the options on step 4 of 4 of this multi-page screen is display
documents in the web browser. If you uncheck this box and then tab to
and press enter on the done button, any document opened will only
display in Adobe reader where it can be viewed if accessible or saved.
I hope that helps

Re: [JAWS-Users] MS Word text moving on its own

2016-07-21 Thread Shai
Hi Wayne,
Are you working on this document on a desktop or laptop? Does this
behavior happen in other places besides word? If this document is
being composed on a desktop computer and a mouse is connected, I would
try removing the mouse temporarily to see if this behavior subsides or
place it in a position where it will not be touched.
If this document is being composed on a laptop one item which comes to
mind is that perhaps you are inadvertently touching the touch pad?
This is usally down near the bottom of the keyboard and will cause the
position of the cursor to move. Most laptops have an option that
allows for the touch pad to be disabled.
I hope this helps

[JAWS-Users] Adding Google calendar to Outlook2013 using JAWS17 Windows10

Hello,
I am attempting to add a Google calendar of my own to Outlook2013

research, I was able to find that this is possible by logging in to
the Google calendar website, choosing a calendar and going to settings
for that calendar to find and copy a link that Outlook needs to
configure this. It is at that that point where I get stuck. After
choosing the calendar and going into settings, I am not able to find
the iCal link using JAWS. Has anyone on here done this and if so how?

[JAWS-Users] issue with Internet explorer11 on Windows10 when wanting to add a website to a folder other than favorites JAWS 17.0.1806

2016-04-05 Thread Shai
Hello,
When trying to add a website to a folder other than favorites in the
latest JAWS17 update with Windows10 and Internet Explorer11, I
notice that JAWS does not announce folder name combo box when tabbing
across the add to favorites area.
To duplicate this issue try the following: when on a web page press
alt a to add to favorites and press enter. Next, tab across. The first
item that you should land on is a combo box with a list of folders
which JAWS does not seem to announce. The user however, can arrow down
this combo box and add the website to the chosen folder. Is anybody
else encountering this issue? All other items in that area such as the
new folder button ok and cancel seem to announce normally.

Hi,
Technical Support states that the hot key not starting JAWS is a
documented issue and they are working on it. I am also having the
issue you describe with starting JAWS on Windows10.
Another means of restarting JAWS after turning it off for now is to go
to the run menu with windows plus r and press the backspace key once
or twice to clear any information that has been typed previously. Then
type jaws17 in lowercase and without any spaces and press enter. This
should start the program.
Hope that helps

Yes, it is the protected mode which is preventing you from reading the
document. To remove the protected mode on a per document basis:
1. Open the document that is in protected mode and when you hear JAWS

press the spacebar or enter on the begin editing button.

[JAWS-Users] Attempting to leave a shared folder on Dropbox JAWS17

2016-01-09 Thread Shai
Hello,
I am using JAWS17 latest update with Windows10 64bit and I am
attempting to leave a shared folder on Dropbox. When I follow the
steps on the site of logging into Dropbox, finding the sharing link
and then pressing enter on the shared folder options next to the
folder, I can not locate a button that states leave this folder. I
have tried left clicking on myself to see if this would allow for more
options but performing this step did not do anything. Additionally, I
have also tried pressing enter on the link to the folder itself and
then pressing enter on the settings button; however, I simply arrive
at the same sharing options as before where I am able to see the
members of the folder.
Has anyone been able to do this? if so how? If it makes any
difference in steps, it is worth mentioning that I am not the owner of
this folder but the owner is able to manage membership

Hi,
I am not sure why you would be pressing insert q.
To read a word document use arrow keys or to say all, press insert down arrow.
For powerpoint, you have to have the slide show in active view by

read subsequent slides, use page downand to return back to the
previous slide, use page up.

Re: [JAWS-Users] I need help to do the following.

2015-10-06 Thread Shai
Hello Ron,
Control w closes the active window such as when you are in a program
and have focus on a webpage in Internet Explorer/Firefox or an email
composition window in Outlook for example.
Since you say in your message that you would like an easier means of
getting to the date/time without having to press insert, how about
switching your keyboard layout to laptop instead of desktop? This
could be found under basic settings. After switching your keyboard to
this layout, the caps lock key would now become the insert key for any
JAWS function. Now to check the date press caps lock f12twice quickly
and to check the time press caps lock f12 once.
  Hope that helps

[JAWS-Users] Kobo books and JAWS16

2015-09-30 Thread Shai
Hello list,
In reading a book for school, the website informed me that one can
purchase an accessible version of it from Kobo. Has anyone had
experience with this using JAWS16 and a braille display? If so, how
did you read the particular book?
Thank you in advance for any responses

Hi Kimber,
While having the message open try pressing JAWS key plus a or tab and
shift tab to find the attachments list and down arrowto the attachment
you want and press enter. If not, I would read through the text of
the email. It could be a link to a file on a service like Dropbox or
Google Drive.
Hope that helps

Hello Wayne,
Yes, when you are in the document that you would like to check on
press alt insert s. This will take you to the select a skeme dialogue
box which you down arrow through. One of the skemes is proofreading

[JAWS-Users] JAWS 16 latest version Mirror display driver error Windows Vista

2015-08-23 Thread Shai
Hello,
I am using a computer with JAWS16.0.4350 and Windows Vista 32 bit.
Recently, I have had to reinstall JAWS on this machine and I keep
receiving an error that the JAWS Mirror display driver is not properly
installed. I have already attempted to uninstall JAWS and to perform a
JAWS repair; however, I still keep receiving the same message.
Any thoughts as to what can be done to resolve this issue?

Hi,
Has any one tried installing it with Windows7? Also, is it true that
one need uninstall JAWS before installing windows10? The
FreedomScientific site states that one does not need to do this;
however, the get windows10 status report states differently. I know
that JAWS will need to be reinstalled once windows10 is in place and
that I should run the utility tool which removes the older versions of
JAWS and mirror display driver.

Hello,
Are you sure that the pdf is being processed? I have noticed that
sometimes when I press enter on a link or open a pdf file that JAWS

when I route the JAWS cursor to the PC cursor and press the up and

staying with the JAWS cursor.

[JAWS-Users] Active cursor follows braille display not working in Microsoft Word2013 document JAWS16

2015-05-01 Thread Shai
Hello all,
I am using JAWS16.0.2339 on a windows7 machine with Word2013. When I
enable the active cursor follows braille display setting and uncheck
the option of braille display follows active cursor, there seems to be
an issue where the type is upside down. For example, if one types test
into a document, they will get this word reversed both with speech and
on the braille display.
In JAWS15, I noticed that this option worked as intended to allow the
braille display to track with speech when panning.
Has anyone else encountered this behavior and found a workaround?

2015-02-20 Thread Shai
Hi,
I have not had the issue with rereading lines when down arrowing but I
have had the typing issue where it seems that JAWS is causing a
problem with my typing on a Lenovo laptop with windows7 64 bit. This
has happened in Outlook2013 messages when composing a new message or
in Word documents when composing a document. For me since I use JAWS
with a braille display disabling the active follows braille setting
seems to have solved the issue. When I have both of these checked, I
notice that JAWS has this problem.

[JAWS-Users] Announcement of text when panning braille display JAWS16

2014-12-20 Thread Shai
Hello all,
I am using the latest update to JAWS16 on a windows7 64 bit machine.
When I pan my braille display in a Microsoft Word document or compose
a new email in Outlook2013, I notice that the speech announces the
sentences that I am panning past. In Internet Explorer or an existing
email message that I am reading JAWS does not exhibit this behavior.
This announcement was uncommon in previous versions. Has anyone else
encountered this behavior? Other than turning speech off, has anyone
discovered a toggle for this or is this an issue with JAWS?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Unable to send e mail to JAWS

2014-08-23 Thread Shai
Hello Richard,
One item that you may want to try is logging in to the list enterface
with the email address that you are subscribed with and enabling the
option of receiving acknowledgement mail when you send an email to the
list.
To log in to this enterface visit the Jaws-Users list info page that
is linked to the frequently asked questions site that is in the footer
of each message received. Next, type your email address in and the
subscription password that was used to subscribe and check the option
for receive acknowledgement mail from this list.
Hope that helps

Hi Teresa,
Perhaps I was not clear. I meant the f5 function key on your keyboard. This is
the key before the number row.

I just tried f, but nothing happens. If I use the arrows I go to the different
slides, but can't read the text.
Thanks all the same.

Hi Teresa,
Have you tried pressing f5 when you go into the powerpoint? This should bring
up the powerpoint slide show and you should be able to page up and page down to
move between the slides. To read the associated content on the slide, use the
up and down arrows. This works here using Powerpoint2010 with Jaws15.
Hope that helps

So, Can powerpoint 2013 be used with jaws 15?

[JAWS-Users] outlook.com and Jaws15

2013-12-27 Thread Shai
Hello all,

I have noticed that on outlook.com on the web that I am unable to check the
box next to individual messages using the space bar or pressing enter on the
check box. This seems to occur in all folders inbox, sent, junk deleted and
drafts. I am however able to select all messages by checking the select all
check box for each of those folders, but I am not able to then uncheck an
individual message that I would like to keep. I am using Jaws15 and Internet
Explorer11 on windows7.

Has anyone else noticed this and found any ability to do this? Some work
arounds I have tried to use are refreshing the screen insert escape, routing
the Jaws cursor to the pc cursor and doing a left mouse click. All of these
did not allow me to check or uncheck an individual message.

Thanks in advance for any responses

Hi,
I am not noticing this here with Internet Explorer 11 and Jaws15 on
windows7. When you have lost focus, have you tried using shift tab instead
of alt tab? Although it would rap around to the bottom of the page, it
should return you to the web page itself without having to alt tab.

Hello friends,

When I an on a page on the internet e.g. the Freedomscientific download
page, I press enter to click on a download which is fine.
It then says notification required and you have to do an alt+n to actually
download the file, to save or save as etc.
After you have done this, the download starts but the focus doesn't seem to
go back to the web page that you were on and to the link that you were
using.
You have to alt+tab out of internet explorer then alt+tab bvack in and tab
around to find your last location.
Is tis something that users have come across and has anyone managed to find
a work around or a better way of doing things please?

Steve.

Hi,
Try doing a windows e and after you have reached the c drive doing a left or
a right arrow to try and find those devices. Perhaps you have a view enabled
that does not list the devices in a list.
If you still can not locate those devices perhaps try disconnecting any USB
hub you may be using and plug the device directly into the USB port. If you
can still not see the device, you may need to use software to access the
device and not windows itself.
Hope that helps

Re: [JAWS-Users] setting a gmail email address and using outlook 2010

2013-08-31 Thread Shai
Hi,
Actually if one inputs their gmail address in when they are setting up their
account in outlook 2010, outlook will configure the correct imap and smtp
server settings for gmail. If one would like to configure their gmail via
pop, this will have to be done manually which the gmail help describes how
to do. In either case, just ensure that the particular setting is enabled in
gmail on the web first.
  Hope that helps

There are two ways to do this. If you are using Google Aps, there is a
Google Sync program you can download from Google which sincs up both your
Google mail and your calendar. Its kind of hard to do though, so if you
aren't using Google Aps professionally, the second option is probably
better.

If you only want to be able to send and receive Gmail through outlook the
second way is simpler. You Go into Google Mail on the web, go to settings,
and select IMAP/POP. This makes Gmail an IMAP server. You then open Outlook
and create a new email account plugging in the Google IMAP and SMTP
settings. Google explains what these are in the help section under settings.

If you get too stuck, let me know and I'll open my gmail settings and find
the exact configuration you'll need.

Once this is set up. You can both send and receive Gmail from with in
Outlook 2010.

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws 8.0.2173 and enabling pop access with gmail

2007-07-18 Thread Shai Wolman
Hi Mark, when it asks you for a user name, does it give you a login screen?
If so, type your user name with the @gmail.com syntax and then your
password. If it does not give you a login screen, go in to tools by doing an
alt t and go down to accounts... and press enter. Now, find the account
that you want to enter the user name for and tab to properties and you
should see it on the general tab.
As for not being able to send mail, you need to be a little more specific,
what errors are you getting if any and what is happening when you do try to
send mail?
Sincerely,

[JAWS-Users] jaws 8.0.2173 and enabling pop access with gmail

2007-07-18 Thread Shai Wolman
Hi, I am using jaws 8.0.2173 and am trying to enable popmail access on my
gmail account, but I can't seem to get it enabled.
I have went in to the settings of gmail with both views and have enabled pop
for all mail even the mail that has been downloaded already and have saved
the settings and it will download the email once, but when I send a message
to myself or when some one sends a message to me, it does not download and I
can only view the messages over the web.
Any help with this would be appreciated.
Sincerely,
Shai Wolman

Re: [JAWS-Users] Office 2007 word problems!

2007-07-18 Thread Shai Wolman
Hi Paul, I am currently using this combination that you speak of.
What I have found is to disable the top and bottom edge alert in the
verbosity settings dialogue box while in word.
To do this, do an insert plus v and press t until you get to top and bottom
edge alert and if jaws says on press the space bar to have it set to off and
press enter. Now, it should work for you.
Hope this helps,

Re: [JAWS-Users] getting a graphic 297 in microsoft word document

2007-07-16 Thread Shai Wolman
Hi Joanne, have you tried the audo graphics labeler (control insert g) to
see if perhaps this graphic could be labeled so that you can see what it is?
Within a word document, do a control insert g and see if it labels the
graphic.
Sincerely,
Shai Wolman

[JAWS-Users] Getting page information with jaws 8.0.2173 and word2007 under windows vista

2007-07-14 Thread Shai Wolman
Hi, I am using jaws 8.0.2173 and word2007 on my windows vista machine and am
trying to get page information such as where I am at in the document, so
that I know how much more it will be before I get to a different page.
It used to be that in the old office programs, you would press insert plus
page down, and it would say something like page1 sec1 1/1 at 2.4 or what
have you, but I can't seem to find any way to enable this option anymore.
I have been to the view tab and have tried to find what I would be able to
check and uncheck, but can not find anything.
So what I was curious to know, is has anybody been able to find this option
and get it enabled? Or is there even such an option in word2007?
Any help with this would be appreciated.
Sincerely,
Shai Wolman
