Hi Steve,
In versions 3.7 up to 6.2, When I open Outlook Express
in any identity, the focus is on the message list view within the in-box.
With later versions, namely versions 10, 11 and 12 beta,
Jaws says, page has no links, there is no message selected.
Tabbing twice, will place me in the message list view.
This problem is not consistent, and pops up randomly while switching
between identities

in Outlook Express.
David and I have looked at it and tried everything we could think of to
eliminate it, but no joy.

Thanks,
Rick Justice

Rick,

Curious as to what you're seeing in Outlook Express. I've been using
Jaws

10, 11, and now 12 beta in OE with XPH for the past two years with no
problems.

It reads the messages automatically, although occasionally, if I get a
HTML graphical message usually from some company, after I delete that
message, Jaws will not read messages automatically until I close and
re-open the inbox.

So far Jaws 12 is working great. Very responsive on both my XP and

64 bit machine finally. I also like the ribbon menu because it
provides

list view info on my Windows 7 computer that I didn't have before.
Whereas I had email reading problems in Jaws 11 with both Windows Live

Yes.
It's not an Outlook Express setting, because it works in previous versions

2010-09-13 Thread Joanne
So far Jaws 12 is working great. Very responsive on both my XP and Windows
7 computer. And what a surprise to find Winamp scripts for my 64 bit
machine finally. I also like the ribbon menu because it provides list view
info on my Windows 7 computer that I didn't have before. Whereas I had
email reading problems in Jaws 11 with both Windows Live Mail and Outlook
Express, those problems don't seem to be cropping up with 12. I just
started using it but so far haven't noticed problems.

I agree about JAWS 12 being responsive on both XP and Windows 7. I have
not tested it with Windows Live Mail yet but I'm pleased to see problems
fixed with that. Yes, the virtual menus are brilliant! Now, with Outlook
Express, it sometimes loses focus when I download a message from my
Googlemail account via imap. JAWS will say page has no links, then
page has x links, where x is 0 or more links in the actual message,
but I have to alt tab twice to read the message. This isn't a big issue
for me since I only use Outlook Express in my XP virtual machine I have
set up. For my Windows 7 I use Thunderbird and it works really well,
somewhat better than previous JAWS releases.

I am testing JAWS 12 with live email beta and the only problem I get is when
I type on the body of the email. JAWS does not let me move round what I
type. I need to do an alt shift to go to subject and tab to read what I
have. Since Microsoft will be releasing new window live email I figure JAWS
should be working on this.

Huh, strange. I'm using a external Dectalk serial synthesizer with Jaws 12
Beta as I type this. Look in your Jaws utilities, synthesizer and Braille
manager. I don't, of course, have serial ports on this modern PC, so I use
a USB-to-serial converter, but as far as Jaws is concerned, it is a serial
  synthesizer running on comm3.

Overall it seems more stable as far as being an initial beta

than other

upgrades. No real major issues to speak of so far. I am

however noticing

some things, such as:

1. For whatever reason, in Google Reader via IE8, Jaws does

feel a bit

sluggish and unresponsive at times. Silence, slow to respond to

commands,

randomly being placed on other parts of the page, having to tab

or shift

tab
to get focus back, etc. I don't find this to be the case when

in Firefox

though. It doesn't stop me from getting around Google Reader

all together,

but it is affecting my navigation. I don't' have this amount of

trouble

when
using JFW 11 and IE8.

2. Again, in Google Reader, but this time from within Firefox,

when

clickin on a particular subscription feed or by doing a simple

search from

within the overall page and navegating down the various entries

using the

h
key for headings, Jaws will read a bunch of garbled link text

instead of

that particular heading title. I've found that when going in

reverse,

(shift+h instead of just h) Jaws reads the entry titles

perfectly fine.

This
isn't an issue in IE8 at all. I had reported this glitch in

prior

releases,
but it's still present in version 12.

3. Jaws seems to have a lot of trouble with Firefox webpages

that have

a lot of links. When encountering a page with hundreds either

by visiting

a
blog posting with hundreds of responces or if I'm searching for

an item to

buy and want all results shown on one page or again, if I'm in

Google

Reader
and press the navigation button to have all my subscriptions

appear (I

have
over 240 rss feeds for example(, JFW will become quite

unresponsive and at

times crash on me. Many times I almost have to step away from

my machine

since Jaws wont' even speak if I do an alt+tab to go to another

app. This

is
especially an issue for me as I help my wife with her eBay store

and when

going into the seller's page, it takes forever for Jaws to talk.

That is

if
I'm in fact lucky and JFW doesn't crash all together. I don't

have this

problem in IE8. I really started noticing this issue with JFW

11 and still

with version 12.

4. I had reported a problem when upgrading from JFW 10 to 11

with all

the information in my e-mails through Outlook 2003 (from,

subject, date

etc)
being spoken twice when arrowing up and down the list view. I

was able to

reproduce this problem with the escalations department (Inquiry

Number:

197907), but never got a solution to it. The same problem is

present in

version 12.

I like the way how the configuration manager has been cleaned up

and

Firefox
feels generally crisper than

2010-09-03 Thread Aiden Gardiner

Hi Eric,

I haven't installed it yet, but I hope there's one issue solved that's been
in most if not all jaws versions since the check for updates was
implemented. When I do an update, and the update completes, there's no
option to reboot the computer later rather than immediately. This is
annoying, especially if you're in the middle of something and don't wish to
restart your machine at that particular time.

Hi Jim,

We have moved away from the traditional Config Manager and put these into
the Settings Center. Read the description below and experiment with the
settings center using the new search option to find these items. I think
you'll get the hang of it.

Regards,
Eric

Settings Center

JAWS Settings Center is a new feature that allows you to quickly configure
and globally apply JAWS settings, or configure and apply settings for a
specific application. It consolidates all options into one convenient
dialog box. It includes a Search edit box, which provides an extremely
fast way to find and edit JAWS functionality. Settings Center continues to
use JCF files and is a direct replacement for Configuration Manager.

Settings Center consists of six primary areas described below. Press TAB
or SHIFT+TAB to move through different parts of the dialog box.

* Application combo box: Select an application from the list to modify its
settings for use with JAWS. To retrieve the JAWS default settings, press
CTRL+SHIFT+D. To retrieve application settings, press SHIFT+TAB to move
focus to the Application combo box. Next, select the application from the
combo box, and then press TAB to move focus back to the tree view pane.
* Search edit box: Press CTRL+E to move focus to the Search box. Type a
search word or phrase in the edit box to reduce the number of items that
appear in the tree view list. Press DOWN ARROW to move to search results,
and then press ENTER to move focus directly to that item in the tree view.
* Settings tree view pane: Use the tree view pane to select and change
settings for the selected application. To retrieve the JAWS default
settings, press CTRL+SHIFT+D. To retrieve application settings, press
SHIFT+TAB twice to move focus to the Application combo box. Next, select
the application from the combo box, and then press TAB to move focus back
to the tree view pane. For a brief description of the item selected in the
tree view, press TAB to move focus to the read-only edit box. Use the Say
Line or Say All commands to read the help message. To vertically scroll
through the tree view, use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys, PAGE UP and PAGE
DOWN keys, or first letter navigation. Use the LEFT and RIGHT ARROW keys
to expand or collapse tree view groups. Use the SPACEBAR to move through
and change settings for each option.
* Configuration display pane: As you move through the tree view, a sighted
user can simultaneously track cursor movement using the configuration
display pane. Press F6 to switch between the tree view and this pane. This
is necessary when typing in an edit or edit spin box.
* Help message pane: Displays context-sensitive help for the item
currently selected in the tree view. Use the Say Line or Say All commands

Hi David.
Oh I know. I don't know if it's me but there seems to be some usability
improvements to Thunderbird. Can't explain until I've done more testing.
It just seems more responsive whatever the weather. Mind you JAWS 12 is

I don't' have this amount of

trouble

when
using JFW 11 and IE8.

2. Again, in Google Reader, but this time from within Firefox,

when

clickin on a particular subscription feed or by doing a simple

search from

within the overall page and navegating down the various entries

using the

h
key for headings, Jaws will read a bunch of garbled link text

instead of

that particular heading title.

The same problem is

present

I would like to remind everyone that if in JAWS 11, you have added
scripts which modified the default script file in JAWS 11, moving that
set of scripts to JAWS 12 will likely prevent you from getting JAWS to
work correctly since the default scripts in 12 are newer than the 11
scripts. I'm not certain but I think this could be the case with any
Skype scripts you may have added in the past. For other applications
specific scripts that you have sitting in your JAWS 11 User Settings
Folder, moving those in should be OK. Of course I think it is always
wise to install and try the new version without making any changes first
and then work things in after doing some experimentation first.

Finally, I agree with Flor, you should not uninstall JAWS 11 just
because you install the Public Beta of 12. This is not necessary. You
will just have to keep track of which version you are actually running
of course.

I don't' have this amount of
 trouble
 when
 using JFW 11 and IE8.

 2. Again, in Google Reader, but this time from within Firefox,
 when
clickin on a particular subscription feed or by doing a simple
 search from
within the overall page and navegating down the various entries
 using the
 h
key for headings, Jaws will read a bunch of garbled link text

Well, if or when you want it you can still reinstall JAWS11 from the FS
Web site. It doesn't have to be too late. Beta software, no matter how
good it is or appears to be, is
still just a beta - not a fully supported, version of a program. No
doubt there will be some minor changes made to JAWS during the beta
process.

Of course I think it is always
wise to install and try the new version without making any changes
first
and then work things in after doing some experimentation first.

Finally, I agree with Flor, you should not uninstall JAWS 11 just
because you install the Public Beta of 12. This is not necessary. You
will just have to keep track of which version you are actually running
of course.

Eric

2010-09-03 Thread Don Marang

The JAWS 12 beta seems very stable so far! I was deeply
disappointed in the stability of JAWS 11. In fact, I felt cheated! I was
not able to use JAWS 11 very much all year until the last update. The last
update fixed the beyond annoying issues and finally made it possible to use
daily. The prior strange issues with user scripts of any type and Windows
Live Mail were unexplainable. Tech Support blamed it on my Windows account
and I would need to reinstall Windows. It did not effect any other programs,
which all work fine, so I just used JAWS 10.

I really like the new Settings Center. This should make it easier for users
of all experiences to find the setting they want to change. I had one
exception. I wanted to set punctuation to All for Script Manager. There
was no way to set this directly in Settings Manager or an indication to add
a voice profile. Of course, I knew how to create a new Voice Profile in
JAWS 11 then switch profiles when in Script Manager and this still worked.
If you type in voice profile or profile, nothing is available. If I
just type voice, there are three hits found, but nothing for voice
profiles. However, for someone who has never figured this out in JAWS 11,
I am sure they will not know how to set this. Is this a bug or just a
suggestion? Are suggestions also submitted as beta bug reports?

By the way, I always set Insert + ` to the SetPunctuation function in
default settings as well.

I would also like to have hotkeys for the Application Volume Controls for
the current application in Vista and Windows 7. This is not an issue if the
current, active application is Windows Media Player or other application
with it's own volume controls. However, many applications, like Internet
Explorer and many others, do not have hotkeys for volume. Needing to Open
the System Tray, Open the Volume Mixer, and find the active application can
be difficult if the application's volume is extremely loud.

I half heartedly attempted to create my own JAWS Scripts to do this using a
small free utility, nircmd.exe. This works great if you can obtain the
exact name used for the application in the volume mixer. I have not figured
out how to do this, The names are also slightly different in Vista and
Windows 7.

I am excited about the new Settings Center, recent additions to the
scripting language, and the stability of JAWS 12 so far. Of course, I was
excited at first when the JAWS 11 beta first came out as well.

Hi Jim,

We have moved away from the traditional Config Manager and put these into the
Settings Center. Read the description below and experiment with the settings

Regards,
Eric

Settings Center

JAWS Settings Center is a new feature that allows you to quickly configure and
globally apply JAWS settings, or configure and apply settings for a specific
application. It consolidates all options into one convenient dialog box. It
includes a Search edit box, which provides an extremely fast way to find and
edit JAWS functionality. Settings Center continues to use JCF files and is a
direct replacement for Configuration Manager.

Settings Center consists of six primary areas described below. Press TAB or
SHIFT+TAB to move through different parts of the dialog box.

* Application combo box: Select an application from the list to modify
its settings for use with JAWS. To retrieve the JAWS default settings, press
CTRL+SHIFT+D. To retrieve application settings, press SHIFT+TAB to move focus
to the Application combo box. Next, select the application from the combo box,
and then press TAB to move focus back to the tree view pane.
* Search edit box: Press CTRL+E to move focus to the Search box. Type a
search word or phrase in the edit box to reduce the number of items that appear
in the tree view list. Press DOWN ARROW to move to search results, and then
press ENTER to move focus directly to that item in the tree view.
* Settings tree view pane: Use the tree view pane to select and change
settings for the selected application. To retrieve the JAWS default settings,
press CTRL+SHIFT+D. To retrieve application settings, press SHIFT+TAB twice to
move focus to the Application combo box. Next, select the application from the
combo box, and then press TAB to move focus back to the tree view pane. For a
brief description of the item selected in the tree view, press TAB to move
focus to the read-only edit box. Use the Say Line or Say All commands to read
the help message. To vertically scroll through the tree view, use the UP and
DOWN ARROW keys, PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN keys, or first letter navigation. Use
the LEFT and RIGHT ARROW keys to expand or collapse tree view groups. Use the
SPACEBAR to move through and change settings for each option.
* Configuration display pane: As you move through the tree view, a
sighted user can simultaneously track cursor movement using the configuration
display pane. Press F6 to switch between the tree view and this pane. This is
necessary when typing in an edit or edit spin box.
* Help message pane: Displays context-sensitive help for the item
currently selected in the tree view. Use the Say Line or Say All commands to
read the help message.
* Apply, OK, and Cancel: Use Apply to make changes. Use OK to save
changes and close Settings Center. Use Cancel to close Settings Center without
saving changes.

To use Settings Center, do the following:

1. Press INSERT+F2, and select Settings Center. Settings appear for the
application that has focus. The cursor is in the Search edit box.
2. If you know the setting that you want to change, type a term for it in the edit
box. For example, type the word braille without the quotes for a filtered
list of braille settings. Next, press DOWN ARROW to move to the filtered results in the
tree view.

Note: To load the default JAWS settings, press CTRL+SHIFT+D, and then search
for the setting as previously described.

To select a different application, press SHIFT+TAB to move to the Application
edit box. Use ARROW Keys or first letter navigation to select the application,
and then press CTRL+E to search for the setting as previously described.

3. Press SPACEBAR to select check boxes, radio buttons, or other buttons,
and press F6 to switch between an edit box and the tree view to change settings.
4. Choose Apply to apply changes and remain in Settings Center, OK to save
changes and exit Settings Center, or Cancel to close Settings Center without
saving changes. The new settings are saved to the appropriate JCF file.

You
will just have to keep track of which version you are actually running
of course.

Eric

Huh, strange. I'm using a external Dectalk serial synthesizer with Jaws 12

synthesizer running on comm3.

Re: [JAWS-Users] How is JAWS 12 Public Beta working out for users?

2010-09-02 Thread CrisMunoz54
Overall it seems more stable as far as being an initial beta than other
upgrades. No real major issues to speak of so far. I am however noticing
some things, such as:

1. For whatever reason, in Google Reader via IE8, Jaws does feel a bit
sluggish and unresponsive at times. Silence, slow to respond to commands,
randomly being placed on other parts of the page, having to tab or shift tab
to get focus back, etc. I don’t find this to be the case when in Firefox
though. It doesn’t stop me from getting around Google Reader all together,
but it is affecting my navigation. I don’t’ have this amount of trouble when
using JFW 11 and IE8.

2. Again, in Google Reader, but this time from within Firefox, when
clickin on a particular subscription feed or by doing a simple search from
within the overall page and navegating down the various entries using the h
key for headings, Jaws will read a bunch of garbled link text instead of
that particular heading title. I’ve found that when going in reverse,
(shift+h instead of just h) Jaws reads the entry titles perfectly fine. This
isn’t an issue in IE8 at all. I had reported this glitch in prior releases,
but it’s still present in version 12.

3. Jaws seems to have a lot of trouble with Firefox webpages that have
a lot of links. When encountering a page with hundreds either by visiting a
blog posting with hundreds of responces or if I’m searching for an item to
buy and want all results shown on one page or again, if I’m in Google Reader
and press the navigation button to have all my subscriptions appear (I have
over 240 rss feeds for example(, JFW will become quite unresponsive and at
times crash on me. Many times I almost have to step away from my machine
since Jaws wont’ even speak if I do an alt+tab to go to another app. This is
especially an issue for me as I help my wife with her eBay store and when
going into the seller’s page, it takes forever for Jaws to talk. That is if
I’m in fact lucky and JFW doesn’t crash all together. I don’t have this
problem in IE8. I really started noticing this issue with JFW 11 and still
with version 12.

4. I had reported a problem when upgrading from JFW 10 to 11 with all
the information in my e-mails through Outlook 2003 (from, subject, date etc)
being spoken twice when arrowing up and down the list view. I was able to
reproduce this problem with the escalations department (Inquiry Number:
197907), but never got a solution to it. The same problem is present in
version 12.

I like the way how the configuration manager has been cleaned up and Firefox
feels generally crisper than in versions past. Google Voice seems to be a
lot cleaner through Mozilla than with IE. Not too easy if at all when trying
to make calls through the gmail page itself though.

I I appreciate the request for feedback and hope my comments have helped in
some way.

Thanks,
Cris

2010-09-02 Thread Eric Damery
Hi Jim,

We have moved away from the traditional Config Manager and put these into the
Settings Center. Read the description below and experiment with the settings
center using the new search option to find these items. I think you'll get the
hang of it.

Regards,

2. If you know the setting that you want to change, type a term for it in
the edit box. For example, type the word braille without the quotes for a
filtered list of braille settings. Next, press DOWN ARROW to move to the
filtered results in the tree view.

The new settings are saved to the appropriate JCF file.

settings center using the new search option to find these items. I think
you'll get the hang of it.

Use the Say Line or Say All commands
to read the help message.
* Apply, OK, and Cancel: Use Apply to make changes. Use OK to save changes
and close Settings Center. Use Cancel to close Settings Center without
saving changes.

To use Settings Center, do the following:

1. Press INSERT+F2, and select Settings Center. Settings appear for the
application that has focus. The cursor is in the Search edit box.
2. If you know the setting that you want to change, type a term for it in
the edit box. For example, type the word braille without the quotes for
a filtered list of braille settings. Next, press DOWN ARROW to move to the
filtered results in the tree view.

Note: To load the default JAWS settings, press CTRL+SHIFT+D, and then
search for the setting as previously described.

To select a different application, press SHIFT+TAB to move to the
Application edit box. Use ARROW Keys or first letter navigation to select
the application, and then press CTRL+E to search for the setting as
previously described.

3. Press SPACEBAR to select check boxes, radio buttons, or other

2010-09-02 Thread John O'Rourke
Good Day Eric:

I installed the public beta early this afternoon. So far, I've done a quick
overview of the program in particularly the new settings center. I'll be
testing it in Word 2010 and Adobe PDF reader 9. So far, I'm very pleased
and will report that on the beta user form early next week. Thank you.

There is nothing strange about this. I am also using JAWS 9 with XP Pro,

That's the way it's supposed to be.

2010-09-02 Thread Lenny McHugh

   Hello Eric,
From what little that I have had time to try there still are a lot of

problems with windows live mail
When I try to reply more often than not I get an error contact name field
not found
I then need to refresh and page up even though the reply address has been
placed in the to field.
The reply to sender no longer gives an error message but places the
incorrect address in the to field. For instance I just tested by using jaws
key, shift r and it placed the first contact in the to field not your
address.
In a new message trying to go through the contact list only email addresses
are read not the individual's name.

I don't find this to be the case when in Firefox
though. It doesn't stop me from getting around Google Reader all together,
but it is affecting my navigation. I don't' have this amount of trouble when
using JFW 11 and IE8.

2. Again, in Google Reader, but this time from within Firefox, when
clickin on a particular subscription feed or by doing a simple search from
within the overall page and navegating down the various entries using the h
key for headings, Jaws will read a bunch of garbled link text instead of
that particular heading title. I've found that when going in reverse,
(shift+h instead of just h) Jaws reads the entry titles perfectly fine. This
isn't an issue in IE8 at all. I had reported this glitch in prior releases,
but it's still present in version 12.

3. Jaws seems to have a lot of trouble with Firefox webpages that have
a lot of links. When encountering a page with hundreds either by visiting a
blog posting with hundreds of responces or if I'm searching for an item to
buy and want all results shown on one page or again, if I'm in Google Reader
and press the navigation button to have all my subscriptions appear (I have
over 240 rss feeds for example(, JFW will become quite unresponsive and at
times crash on me. Many times I almost have to step away from my machine
since Jaws wont' even speak if I do an alt+tab to go to another app. This is
especially an issue for me as I help my wife with her eBay store and when
going into the seller's page, it takes forever for Jaws to talk. That is if
I'm in fact lucky and JFW doesn't crash all together. I don't have this
problem in IE8.

I I appreciate the request for feedback and hope my comments have helped in
some way.

Thanks,
Cris
