Hi, I was just curious and I been wanting to ask this for such a long time but it never irritated me that much to ask. Seriously, its not that big of a deal but I will ask anyways. This doesn't happen in outlook 2007 but it does for outlook 2010. When I press CTRL m to download/check for messages after opening up outlook 2010, any folder that has an email coming into it, jaws will say the folder name. lol, you know how annoying that is? Hi List: Does anyone know a good tutorial for the computer illiterate for Outlook 2010? I have been using XP-Home and Outlook Express with JAWS 10 for years. However, I am now using a new laptop with Windows 7 and JAWS 11. Outlook Express is no longer an option and the Live Mail program that came installed is beyond me so I downloaded a demo of Outlook 2010 and am trying to learn it but its help menu keeps going out of focus, the delete key and the key between the insert and enter keys of the number pad don't seem to work and control+delete is silent all of the time when I try to delete incoming messages with it and sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. I would like to try Windows Mail that seems to be a part of Vista (I never did use a computer with Vista) but have no idea how to put it on a computer with Windows 7. Any thoughts on what to do to transfer from being a user of Outlook Express to becoming at all conversant with Outlook 2010 would be most appreciated. To reiterate, I am using a laptop with a desktop keyboard with Windows 7, JAWS 11 and Outlook 2010. Thanks. Linda Don't be humble... you're not that great (Golda Meir). [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2010 Question
Hello, everyone. I am experiencing a problem with Outlook 2010, that I can't seem to resolve. If I am writing an e-mail, and find the need to leave my computer before sending the message, I often like to save my message in the drafts folder. My usual way of doing this is to hit the escape key, at which time I will be asked whether I want the message to be saved. Of course, I respond by answering "yes", thinking that all should be well. However, after I do this, I look for the supposedly saved message in my drafts folder, and it is not there. I check both my local drafts folder, and the drafts folder under my expanded outlook folders. The last time this happened, I even checked my drafts folder on the g-mail web site, under my personal g-mail account, and it was not there either. I have also checked my deleted items, junk, outbox, and saved folders, but no message appears there either. What makes this especially annoying is that I did not have this problem a month or so ago. I'm wondering if something has been updated in Windows so as to make this saving function less easy to perform? I posted this quiry several days ago on the other Jaws list j...@lists.the-jdh.com and although I have gotten several suggestions, none have worked thus far. One other note: I have tried the control S key command as a way to save the message. However no saving options appear when using this key command. Thanks for any help that can be provided. P.S. I hope this quiry is not considered to be "off topic" for this list. I am a new member, and don't want to wear out my welcome right from the start. [JAWS-Users] outlook 2010 problem
Hi, Today I switched from win xp and outlook express to win 7 and outlook. I am running jaws 12. Outlook 2010 is working ok, but the message list view is really slow to navigate. I used to be able to zip through it in outlook express, and it is much slower now. Also, jaws will occasionally fail to read an item correctly; it will say the first few words, then dot dot dot. I'm wondering if my outlook isn't configured correctly. Any tips/tricks on settings I should change are appreciated. Thanks, Tasha For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
[JAWS-Users] Outlook 2010 Frustrations
Well hoping to get a few pointers here or at least headed in the right direction. As I've been saying, I am migrating from Office 2000 to 2010 and thus far Have managed to deal with the ribbons etc in Word & Excel. I have mastered the basics of those programs to do what typical tasks I do. now on to Outlook. I got that installed ok last night and when it first opened I was impressed that it seemed to bring all my info over automatically from 2000. All my folders, contacts, settings etc seemed to be there. From that point on it was all downhill. I kept all default settings to try to get the hang of the basics. I am using FS JAWS ribbon feature. I played with it for almost 2 hours and could get no where. I was able to navigate the folder tree and figured out how to expand and collapse messages. However I could not get my mail to come into the inbox or read any messages in there. From the tree I could tab to what I am assuming is the message pane. I could use the arrow key to go up and down to hear who a message was from but if I hit enter to open the message I could not read the contents with standard JAWS reading keys. I have a lot of mail to deal with during the day and somehow need to learn some basics before using this. I finally ended up uninstalling for now and reinstalling Outlook 2000 until I can be confident I can at least get mail, read it, adjust some settings to keep mail on the server, etc. From first impressions it appears to be a giant learning curve from 2000. Any helpful tips, tutorials, etc? I am going to look around myself too and see what is available. Just finding what you want in those ribbons an overwhelming. I am glad I do not experience the behavior in Jaws 13, latest and Windows 7 64 bit. Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2010
I am using 2010, I don't have a tutorial, but I have a few things that might help you. 1. Turn off the preview pain in every folder, to do this, hit alt V then the letters p and then n, once you do this, just arrow down to off and hit enter. 2. Uncheck for messages to be shown in groups, to do this, hit alt V then the letters A and then B, then arrow down until you hear messages shown in groups, the default is for this to be checked, so just hit enter, and it will uncheck them for you.\ Lastly, you can still use control y to cycle through your folders, but another way this can be done is by hitting shift tab, and then use your arrow keys. If you have any more questions, my contact info is below. I set the self extractor to place the files in a location that was not used by any other programs for the purpose of making them easy to find. The directions along with everything else needed will be located there. Once you are finished you can delete that folder or save the files in case you would ever need them again. They will be on the web site though so long as the page is posted on the internet. So which ever method you wish to use it is entirely up to you. [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2010 and Hotmail.
Hi Group, Does anyone have Hotmail, Outlook.com or live.com coming into your Outlook 2010 email program? I have two desktop pc and both of them have Outlook 2010 on them with Hotmail account on it. In the last four or five days both my Hotmail accounts stop working at the same time. Neither one of them could send or receive emails. I called the Microsoft Disability line and they told me Microsoft updated their server and both of my Hotmail account have to be reconfigured to IMAP for them to work. Has anyone had this happen with their Hotmail account in Outlook 2010? Mr. Ed For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

P.S. Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2010 Question
Denny: I'm sorry. I should have been clearer in my last post. I tried this under mail options, and double-checked several times to be sure I was specifying that the messages should be saved to the drafts folder, and hit ok, but the messages don't seem to be saved to that folder. This is what is so confusing to me. Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2010 Question
Louise: I just tried your approach by hitting Alt F4 to exit outlook. It asked me if I wanted to save my message, just as it did when I used the escape key normally, to which I responded Yes. Unfortunately, even with this approach, my message was not saved. I could not find it in either my local or g-mail draft, junk, saved, or spam folders. I simply can't imagine where these messages are going, especially since I told Outlook to save them in the drafts folder. On your second note, I, like you, find it easier to find relevant folders in Outlook by simply shift-tabbing to my folder list and accessing my desired folder either via the arrow keys or by first-letter navigation. Thanks for your helpful suggestions, though. I'll keep plugging away at things here. Hopefully others will have additional things for me to try. I'm also going to try to get some sighted assistance here to help determine what might be going on. Hi Tom well if you can't get sighted help maybe phone Microsoft help line and maybe they would have an answer for you as they may say that there is a bad file or something is not set up right. I have a dum question try this go and set it all up and then turn off the computer and turn it back on and see if this would help. I know I am being funny but sometimes we try the silly things and they fix the problems. Please try and let me know and I will keep thinking of something else as it may be something silly. P.S. Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2010 Question
Tom, Thinking a bit outside the box now. What if you put some unique characters in the subject line of a test email, like "XX" - whatever is unique. Then do your usual ctrl "S" or your preferred save to draft method. Then do a search using the alt key to bring up the Windows 7 Search box, then enter the unique subject line test message string. Perhaps the search will disclose the location of your saved messages and solve the mystery of the missing (or AWOL) draft folder. Good luck! I suggest calling the Microsoft Accessibility office at 800-936-5900. They can remote in to your computer, and should be able to figure this out. I have been impressed with the diligence of the folks in that office. The last time I called them, I had an issue that they could not figure out, and got hold of upper level tech support that did figure out the answer. It all happened in that single phone call. They always send me a subsequent email asking for feedback on how they did. -Original Message- From: Tom Behler Sent: Sunday, December 28, 2014 4:39 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2010 Question Louise: I just tried your approach by hitting Alt F4 to exit outlook. hello Tom; well, I'm wondering if the unsaved/saved drafts are being placed into the outlook data file folder. do you see such animal at the bottom of your folders? this is the actual outlook pst file. perhaps the default is the outlook data file folder. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Tom Behler Sent: Sunday, December 28, 2014 9:19 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2010 Question Thanks for this info, Tim. Tom, Try this: 1. Open Outlook 2. Go to the File menu, and then right arrow over to the next tab, (I cannot remember what it is called) 3. Tab down to "Open Outlook Data File" 4. Press Enter on this 5. You will be prompted for the file name, and type the following: C:\users\Tom\documents\Outlook Files\"Outlook Data file name". 6. The name of the Data File should be something like Outlook1. You can navigate to this location before doing this to double check the file name. 7. On the resulting page that opens, you will find links to view lists of the emails from the folders like Inbox, Drafts, and Deleted Items. 8. Maybe you can find your lost messages here. Goodluck. Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2010 Question
Hi tom, It seems you have set up multiple accounts in your Outlook 2010. So if you do a control Y and then a left arrow you can then get to a list that you can select which account you are in. when you do this and do a test email to yourself and before you send it hit escape it should automatically go to draft or you will be asked if you want to save it. If you say yes then do another control Y and go to draft folder to see if it is there. Do this for all of your accounts and if the emails are not saved in your draft folder then something has been clobared (love that term). Of interest if you have multiple account email accounts you have to be careful in the lists to ensure you are in the right one for that account. I find the lists are not very well defined once you have more then one email account that you traverse back and forth from. robin -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Tom Behler Sent: December 30, 2014 8:50 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2010 Question Gobi: I'm not sure my previous experience with Outlook 2010 agrees with what you are saying here, since I used to be able to save messages in the drafts folder of whatever e-mail account I happened to be in at any one point in time. Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2010 Question
Yeah, David, what you are saying is making some sense here. To answer your questions: When I open Outlook on my home PC, I automatically land in the inbox for my personal g-mail account. When I open Outlook on my new work laptop, I automatically land in the inbox for my work e-mail account. In either case, I can switch back and forth between both e-mail accounts on either computer. My personal e-mail account is a g-mail account, while my work e-mail account is an Outlook 2010 account created with Microsoft 365. In all cases, Outlook 2010 is how I access my e-mail. Is this helping, or have I just confused things further? Different strokes for different folks. I actually dont' mind this behavior. Instead of searching for a draft, I know I can just look in one draft foldre to find it. Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2010 Question
Hi Tom, Here's a thought. If you suspect that what you are experiencing is the cause of a Windows update, or more specifically, an update to Microsoft Outlook, you could look through your list of installed updates, and un-install updates to Outlook to see if the desired behavior is restored. This could become time-consuming, but may yield the results you are looking for. Sometimes there are updates to Microsoft Outlook that are not for security, or even critical for that matter, and this is also true of the updates for the Windows operating system. If you decide to follow this path, just make sure you understand what you are removing before doing so. If you have any questions, just sing out! okay Tom; just so I'm clear; have you tried the following? Change the time interval or location for saving drafts By default, unfinished messages are saved to your Drafts folder every three minutes. You can change this time interval or location. 1. Click the File tab. alt+f=file, 2. Click Options. here you can press the letter t=options, or, up arrow and enter on options, 3. Under Save messages, do one or more of the following: so use the tab key and look for, saved messages, Change where drafts are saved In the Save to this folder list, click Drafts, Inbox, Sent Mail, or Outbox. now, you need to make sure that you okay your way out to save the change. as for changing the default folder startup, alt+f=files, T=options, a=advanced, now use the tab key, going from memory here, I believe you will see, Outlook start and exit, anyway, somewhere here there should be a browse button, once you enter on the browse button, you can use your arrow keys to select the startup outlook folder. hope I was able to convey my thoughts properly. if not, I will try again. hope this helps. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Tom Behler Sent: Tuesday, December 30, 2014 2:19 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2010 Question Thanks, Rick. ... I will keep this in mind for sure. And, as a general remark to list members, I apologize if my previous remarks about Microsoft updates and changes seemed a bit snarky. It's just so frustrating sometimes when things that worked perfectly at one time with the same program no longer do, for reasons that are not readily apparent to the average end user like myself. The thing that is most irritating to me is that I didn't have this issue with Outlook 2010 up until as recently as a few months ago. Why Microsoft feels the need to make changes that tamper with someone's e-mail folder structures is a major mystery to me. All I know is that it is this sort of thing that is causing more and more people to shift away from Windows-based operating systems for their computing needs. I tried tinkering with Outlook 2010 as well as 2013 and this is what I concluded. HTH. Cheers! Instead, My issue is that all draft messages are automatically going into my outlook data file folders by default, and I'm trying to figure out how to configure Outlook 2010 so that the messages go into the drafts folder for the particular e-mail account I happen to be in at any point in time--either my personal account or my work account. That is the dilemma. Dr. Tom Behler from Michigan -Original Message- Fro
