Re: [JAWS-Users] updating jaws

2017-07-14 Thread Fernando Gregoire
Hi Richard,

As Judy told you, sometimes there are issues with the JAWS auto-update feature.
However, since its convenience when working properly for you, I'll explain you
how to use it.
If you have JAWS set to check for updates automatically, when there is an
update you'll get a dialog box asking wetter you want to install the updates.
In addition to Yes or No buttons, there's a check box to prevent JAWS from
automatically checking for updates in the future; you can reactivate this if
you want in JAWS's Basic Settings dialog.
If you want to manually use this feature, regardless of the setting for the
automatic check, press INSERT+J to open the JAWS window or context menu, press
ALT+H to open Help and then U for choosing the Check for Updates menu item.
If you have User Accounts Control (UAC) enabled in Windows, when answering that
you want to install the updates or choosing the Check for Updates item in the
Help menu you will be asked for administrator rights. If the account in which
you are currently logged in is an administrator one, just press ALT+Y to choose
Yes and continue; if not, follow prompts in the UAC dialog to choose another
account with administrative privileges and entering its password before
pressing ALT+Y.

When you have performed these first steps, you'll get either a waiting dialog
or a list of available updates. In the list of updates, press SPACEBAR to check
the update(s) you want to install, and press ENTER to begin downloading and
installation. At the end, you will be asked to restart your computer.

In other languages like Spanish, there is often one update available
corresponding to the last build. In English, however, you'll also be offered to
install additional content such as new training materials, so make sure you
only check the items you actually want to install to avoid an excessive large
download; you can check the size for each available update by reading the
second column of the list view, which you can speak by pressing CTRL+JAWS+2.

Hope it gives you a general idea on how the update process work!

2016-01-23 Thread K. Washington

One thing I would like to add to this.

Make sure you perform these steps while using the latest build of
JAWS (To date is version 17.0.1214.)

So if your more comfortable using a prior version of JAWS like v15 or
v16, your remaining Authorizations will increase by 2 or 1. That's
because you decided to stick with an older build. Doesn't allow you
to install say JAWS 18 for the system at FS will know the true count
remaining (Which if your in version 17 would be 0.) Just wasn't to
point that out.

I believe, and someone on list correct me if I'm in error,
removing shared components also removes any customization

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Updating Jaws

I am going to update my old laptop which I use as backup to my main laptop.

I have jaws versions 7 to 12 on it and wish to remove them all and add just
jaws 14. Is there any particular way of doing this or can I just go ahead and
remove them all and then install 14 from my disc? I thought I might remove all
shared files option as well, feel like a fresh start.

Appreciate any advice

Graham

If you remove everything when loading the new jaws you won't have to
reactivate I do it all the time when I get a new version.

Hi,

Just go ahead and remove all the old versions and if you have a backup,
remove shared components if you want a fresh start.
Is it activated?
The only thing I am not sure of is that if you completely remove everything,
the activation is removed but I would suggest that it is so you would have
to re-activate on line.

before you install the new build, perhaps you need to first uninstall
and

remove your original JAWS10 and its folders - particularly if it was
downloaded from the Web. Then try installing the new build. Or, if

Re: [JAWS-Users] updating jaws error

2009-03-13 Thread Flor Lynch
before you install the new build, perhaps you need to first uninstall and
remove your original JAWS10 and its folders - particularly if it was
downloaded from the Web. Then try installing the new build. Or, if the
original JAWS10 was downloaded from the Web, you could uninstall it and then
install it with the JAWS10 CD, and then update it via JAWS Updates. (For
safety, just check that JAWS10 one, before doing any other updates there.)

Tried to update jaws from the update in help didn't work got an error
message. Then I downloaded the file and about 50% through the installation
after several retries and starting over kept getting the following error
message even after a reboot and trying again.

Installer Information
The cabinet file 'JAWS.cab' required for this installation is
corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a
network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a
problem with this package.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Updating Jaws 7 to 7.1

2008-06-11 Thread mike barbara
Hi Victor,

I called Freedom Scientific and the only way to get the authorization number
is to call them with your serial number and they will look it up for you.
Their phone number is 1-800-444-4443. I hope this helps.

Mike

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Updating Jaws 7 to 7.1

Hi Folks,

A friend of mine purchased the SMA from Jaws 6 and up. She purchased three
in all.

She has since updated from Jaws 6 to 6.1, then to seven, or something along
those lines.

I have advised her that she should update her Jaws from 7 to 7.1, but she
claims that it won't authorize her to do so.

I was always under the impression that Jaws 7.1 was an update, not an
upgrade.

Am I wrong about this?

I could have sworn, and have confirmed, by looking through the archives,
that 7.1 was an update to 7, and so no SMA was required to download and
install it.

She cannot find her authorization number, and so I only have her serial
number to go on.

Is there some way she can find her authorization number using the software?

I have checked the folder in C://program files/freedom scientific/Jaws7.0
and have found the authorization manager executable file, however, when
entered on, it does nothing.

Does anyone have any ideas for me?

I am at a loss to find out why this is the case.

I do plan on calling FS in the morning, but I may not have the time to
devote to this, as I have several meetings to attend tomorrow, so a reply
from the list would serve me better.

I should note she is using XP Home, and the About dialog box says she is
running Jaws 7.0 something or other, with zero SMA's left.

Thanks for all your help.

You are right. Jaws 7.1 was an update for jaws 7. Personally, I didn't like
7.1, so I ended up going back to 7.0.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Updating Jaws versus updating Video Intercept

2007-07-24 Thread David Ferrin
I believe you are correct regarding rebooting your system after a fresh
install, but it might not be a bad practice to check from time to time and
see if they did update the video intercept as well.

I think this is why you have to restart your computer each time after
you reinstall or update JAWS, because the Video Intercept also gets
reinstalled or updated. Hope that helps.
