Good point, I would be cautious about doing this as well.
I Know that the different versions of JAWS go in to different folder names.

Because of the shared files, I'd be nervous about installing an earlier version
than the one on your system. Also, FS/VFO made a substantial change to JAWS
that I believe began with version 17. If I were you, I'd ask VFO tech support.

I am woefully behind. I downloaded JAWS2018 a while ago. When I tried to
activate it, two versions began to talk. I have been too busy to go back to

to purchase 2019, I guess I better do something!

I am currently on JAWS 17, and Windows 10.

Hi

While you're using JAWS 15 after installing it, press insert+j to open the
JAWS window, or context menu if you run JAWS from the system tray. Now open
the utilities menu and move to the second item, which is merge utility and
press enter. Make sure the source is 14.0 and tab to the OK button and
press enter. The last time I used the merge utility in JAWS 15, or maybe
JAWS14, it merged everything except for some JKM files, keyboard mapping,
that I had created in my user settings folder to add or change some
keystrokes to some applications that has JKM files in the default settings
folder.

David,
Actually you can, a mobile jaws thumb drive that FS has on their website.
Almost 2 years ago I was going to create one.
There is a couple files you have to down load and two thumb drive are
required.
One thumb drive with the certification number and the other has the files
you will have to copy to the PC, but a iPod has a USB thumb drive port
that

can be used.

Grant from FS was going to help me, if I needed help with it.
I downloaded all the files minus one file and bought two new thumb drives
I

thought it was the greatest thing having a mobile jaws thumb drive in your
pocket..
I change my mind because you will still need a person with vision to help
you install and start the application on a unknown pc every time you use
it.

I rather just carry my laptop, if I'm going to need help from a person who
has vision.
Look it up in the FS website.

the jaws disc. In the past, it would automatically begin to install. I went
to disc drive d, see the disc, but can't figure out how to install it. Any
help is appreciated.

What we see in the JAWS English-language version is the facilities for
voices (speech synthesizers) that can speak text written in other
languages, and html tags for Web pages written in other languages.
There are separate language versions for other languages' JAWS, such as
French, German, Norwegian, japanese, etc.

It should be in print and Braille on the sleeve. If not,

Hello Cathie,

I hope you have already resolved the installation issue, but if not here
are

some things you might try.

First, bring up the configuration utility by going to the run dialog box.
Press Windows key with R to get to the run prompt. At the prompt type in
msconfig (m s c o n f i g) and press enter key. When the configuration
utility opens use CTRL+tab until you get to the startup page of the
dialog.
Focus should be in a list of processes that start when the Windows
operating

system loads. If not then use tab key until you are in the list. Use up
and down arrow keys in the list and remove the checkmark from any entries
having to do with Epson. You might make note of the entries in case you
want to enable them again later. Use the spacebar to remove the
checkmark
on any entry having to do with Epson if it is checked. Use tab key to
the

apply button and press spacebar. You can then use tab key to the close
button and press spacebar. When asked if you want to restart answer
yes.

Your computer will restart without the Epson related processes loading.
When Windows loads you might get a dialog box letting you know that
changes

were made to the configuration utility. use tab key to the checkbox that
says something like don't show this again and use spacebar to check the
box. use tab key to the OK button and press spacebar.

Try installing JAWS again with those processes disabled. After
installation
remember to enable to processes that you need to start with Windows in
the

configuration utility by checking the boxes from which you removed
checkmarks.

If the above steps still don't work then you might need to check for
startup
shortcuts in the startup group and delete them. You might also need to
stop
some services from running automatically. Otherwise, there might also be
a

corrupted Windows installer and you might need to the Windows installer
cleanup tool.

I hope you get it worked out.

Take care.

The reason you got jaws 3.31 working on xp is
because that is a networking version. it wasn't

Hello, I don't know if it will install on you or not, but i have tried
even with JAWS 3.31, and it was working properly. if you have 3.2, would
love to try it as well, or even 3.0.

Using windows xp pro.
Thank you, Jitendra.

My understanding and also according to the fs website 4.01 is the first
version that will even work with XP at all. Not sure how you are getting
earlier versions to work there.

[JAWS-Users] Installing Jaws Question

2008-08-26 Thread Patricia Dunbar
Hello,

I want to install the jaws 9 update I downloaded awhile back, but never
having installed jaws this way before, I need to know do I unload my current
version of jaws first as was required when installing from a disk?

Then if I do, how do I know the keys to press to be on the run button?

Thanks,

Patricia

 Hi,

Do you currently have JAWS 9 installed and are you just wanting to install
an update? Or do you have an earlier version of JAWS installed and want to
update to the latest version of 9?

If you have the file saved somewhere, just run it and the talking
 installer
will take over. I have never had to unload JAWS to install a newer
 version.

Hi Linda,
That is possible, but not always the case.
I have installed Jaws from cd, while running a different version of Jaws at

When the installer starts, Jaws switches to the version being installed.
On the other hand, if you are using a different screen reader not from

Re: [JAWS-Users] Installing Jaws 8 on Windows Vista Business Edition

2008-01-15 Thread Chris Hallsworth
Hi Vidtor, you need to upgrade to at least build 1177 in order to use
JAWS 8 under Vista. Alternatively, upgrade to JAWS 9. You see, Vista
uses mirroring technologies, meaning any screen readers using the DCM
technology will have issues, like you've come across now. Hope that helps.

I get with Jaws is the second one, which says install video
intercept and restart the computer, however, when I press the
spacebar on the execute button, I get the error message that the DC
something or other has an error, and the only choice is the ok button.

Is there a fix for this?

I have confirmed that I am running the 32 bit version of Vista, and
I am logged on as an administrator.

Am I to assume that the only way I can do this is by using Narrator?

Also, how can I do this if I have to shut down Jaws in order to be
able to use Narrator properly.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Installing Jaws 8 on Windows Vista Business Edition

2008-01-15 Thread Tim
You can try to update the video drivers. However, another person is
having the same issue on her Toshiba. So this just might be a bug in
the video intercept.

Hi Victor and list,
What version of JAWS 8.0 are you trying to
install? I recommend that you use 8.0.2173
(if you haven't).
Cheers,

Re: [JAWS-Users] installing jaws 9 training material

2007-12-04 Thread Tony Hernandez
HI Lisa.

When you install JAWS 9, it will ask you to restart your computer. Just
leave the CD in the drive. You'll be taken to the JAWS startup wizard.
There is where you'll be asked if you would like to install the traning
materials. If you don't get the startup Wizard, you can find it by going to
the JAWS window with insert j, activating the help menu, and then arrowing
up three times to the start up wizard. Hope this helps.

Re: [JAWS-Users] installing jaws 9 training material

2007-12-04 Thread Chris Skarstad
Hi. After you install JAWS from the CD, you will be asked if you'd
like to install the JAWS 9.0 training material. so just answer yes.
If for some reason you aren't asked to install it, you can look on
the CD for a training folder and simply copy that to any location
you'd like on your machine.
But keep in mind folks, you don't *have* to do it this way. The
DAISY books and mp3 files for the JAWS 9.0 training can be freely
downloaded from the FS site from the Training Headquarters link. If
you're on a slower connection, or just don't want to do it that way
though, you can most certainly install it from the CD. I mentioned
the website though, because as new training material is made
available, it's posted to the website, so you might miss something
new that isn't on the cd. So I thought I'd make it absolutely clear
that the CD isn't your only option of installing the training materials.
  Hope that helps.

Re: [JAWS-Users] installing jaws 9 training material

2007-12-04 Thread rcham27
I recently installed 9.0 from the Freedom Scientific web site.
It went well.
However, I also tried to download the training material.
I am not sure if it worked.
I know this sounds silly, but when I try to open the training material, it
sounds like I only get JAWS 8.0 material.
My question is, How can I tell of I have the most recent version of training
material?

Thank you.

Donny, you can either get a friend to activate it for you (well, he/she will
give you an activation code that you need to enter). Alternatively you can
telephone your local JAWS dealer, give them your unlock code and
authorization number, then they'll either give you the code over the phone
or send you a CD in the mail that will activate it for you, I'm not sure.
Hope that helps.

You can authorize Jaws on more than one machine, useing a single license.

well you would have to make sure that jaws is authorized to run on that
second computer. you can't install your copy of jaws on to a second
computer unless you perchaased another licence.
correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe once you perchase jaws, you only
get one activation for a single computer unless you buy another licence.

You can authorize Jaws on more than one machine, useing a single license.
For first hand information about this, it would be best to either contact FS,

well you would have to make sure that jaws is authorized to run on that
second computer. you can't install your copy of jaws on to a second
computer unless you perchaased another licence.
correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe once you perchase jaws, you only
get one activation for a single computer unless you buy another licence.

Hey Guys,

I have a second computer here in my home that I have installed JAWS on. This computer is not
hooked
to the internet. It is just for documents, games and stuff like that. After installing JAWS 6.0
on
this computer, I keep getting a box pop up that wants me to authorize JAWS on this computer. I
have

no way of doing this through the internet on this computer. So, what do I need
to do?
