Re: [JAWS-Users] e-mail programs
George, in addition to what you say, there is a man in the Blind-BST list that sells Outlook 2016 licenses for $35, I never bought one, because the V A gives me the entire Office Suite for free, but several people in that list have bought it and seemed satisfied. Re: [JAWS-Users] e-mail programs
Ah, the dreams of Utopia. *grins* I think a lot of people might actually be against FS doing something like this. Not to sound cynical (I actually don't mean it that way), but they have enough on their plate trying to get JAWS up to speed, with all the updates Microsoft is pushing to Windows, as the new oS operating model seems to be "constant work in progress". Meanwhile, folks might be wary of niche software designed specifically for JAWS users when acceptable "mainstream" alternatives exist. I personally don't feel there's anything wrong with developing software with the blind in mind, but it doesn't really help people with "Job Access", if you know what I mean. Outlook works pretty well for me, and if I want webmail, my ISP (who also provides my e-mail) has a very usable interface. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of cheez Sent: October 23, 2017 11:52 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] e-mail programs This may be a part of utopia, but I'm surprised Freedom Scientific hasn't created an e-mail program. Re: [JAWS-Users] The Mail app, your best friend
Do you have the Carrot turned on? Right now as far as I have noticed, you need to have the Carrot turned on for each of your accounts. Yes, A few days ago, I did notice the mail app acting differently. So I did take the time to remove my accounts and set them up again. I checked to make sure I had the latest updates for the mail app. Yes, I hope that VFO, will take some time to improve the mail app with Jaws. Right now I use it mainly for test purposes for those who do use the mail app a lot. I do follow one of my slow email accounts using the mail app. Sorry about any confusion about saying it works fine for everyone. Mainly, play with the different settings for each account and find out what settings work best for you. Smiles. Your humble pinhead! Owner of the W-10 and Jaws Yahoo group! The Mail app is working fine for me, how do you think I wrote this lesson. Yes, they need to improve some issues with Jaws. But over all for a basic email client, the mail app works just fine. You need to play around with the settings for each account, and see what settings work best for you. Good luck. Smiles. Your humble pinhead! Owner of the W-10 and Jaws Yahoo group! Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows Mail Ap Question
Honestly between the two, I would use outlook. The reasons why is with outlook, you are able to quickly navigate to the folders you create, also easily create folders, message rules do not work in the mail app where as it does in outlook. The app if you do not like orgonomics then it's not for you, if you just do the basic send and receive, it'll be fine. As of right now, it's not the greatest but useable and duable, and there might be improvements down the road. There are pros and cons with each, but when it comes down to it, I rather use outlook primarily. The mail app is native to windows 10, so type mail in the windows search, and you will see the mail app. Press enter to launch it and follow the prompts to set up your account. Re: [JAWS-Users] Live Mail Irratation
Hi, I have no answer for the problem but can verify experiencing it as well and suspect that since support for the program from Microsoft will be ending in early 2017 it might only get worse over time. That's why I've begun using Microsoft Outlook and I'm sure fans of other programs will chime in as well with their favorites. While it's true that as long as one has an installer for the program and can get it up and running it will remain usable this highlights one of the problems that comes with continued use of such programs which won't continue to evolve to integrate into newer operating systems or to handle newer protocols or security concerns. Depending on the situation, using the correct terminology can be the difference between a lot of talk, and an actual solution to your problem. E-mail Client: A program that allows you to download and manage messages from an e-mail server. An e-mail client is typically installed on your PC. Here are some of the most widely used e-mail clients: Microsoft Outlook Express (also referred to as OE) Microsoft Outlook (most generally referred to as Outlook) Windows Mail (also referred to as WM) Windows Live Mail (also referred to as WLM) Mozilla Thunderbird (generally referred to as Thunderbird) Eudora There are clients in this list that are similar in name, but are entirely different, and it is important not to confuse them, for example, Outlook, and Outlook Express are both Microsoft products, but are not the same Likewise, Windows Mail, and Windows Live Mail, are again, both Microsoft products, but are not the same, so it is important when asking for help, to make sure which client you are using, because keyboard commands and navigation will vary. Note: While on the topic of e-mail clients, this is very important to remember: The last supported version of Outlook Express was 6.0, which came installed on Windows XP systems. The last supported version of Windows Mail came installed on Windows Vista systems. Although registry tweaks etc, have made it possible to use these clients on more recent versions of Windows, it must be understood that Microsoft does not support the modified versions with any type of tech support, or security updates. You use them at your own risk! E-mail Server: Typically, the program and associated hardware that your ISP (Internet Service Provider), uses to manage e-mail for their customers. Your ISP is the company that provides your internet service, such as A T, Time-Warner Cable ( also referred to as TWC),Verizon etc. Identities: These are found in Outlook Express, and by other names in some other clients, such as Personalities in Eudora. You can have multiple Identities in Outlook Express, and each Identity can contain multiple accounts. Accounts: These are simply your e-mail settings from whatever provider you are using for e-mail, such as Hotmail, GMail or your ISP etc. Atypical account is your e-mail address and it's associated settings. You can have multiple accounts in most e-mail clients, which simply means that you would use 1 client to receive e-mail coming to multiple addresses. Here is an example of multiple Identities and multiple accounts in Outlook Express, as I have them setup on one of my machines. I have an Identity which I have named "Jaws-Users", and one named "Rick". Within the Jaws-users Identity, I have 2 accounts, , 1 for each e-mail address, that I have for list management reasons. In the "Rick" Identity, I have only 1 account, which is my personal e-mail address. I use this method for sorting purposes, and it is strictly a personal preference. Re: [JAWS-Users] E-Mail Terminology
Just to add a note to the excellent explanations in your message: An e-mail client is sometimes referred to as a Mail User Agent (abbreviated MUA). The software on the e-mail server that receives incoming mail and delivers it to its destination (i.e., the recipient's e-mail server) is sometimes referred to as a Mail Transfer Agent (MTA). There is other important terminology associated with e-mail, but this much should suffice for now. In the "Rick" Identity, I have only 1 account, which is my personal e-mail address. I use this method for sorting purposes, and it is strictly a personal preference. [JAWS-Users] E-Mail Terminology
There seems to be a lot of confusion concerning e-mail terminology , so perhaps the following will help. [JAWS-Users] Windows Mail in Windows 10
I have been told by several people that Windows Mail does not work with jaws in Windows 10, but have found a few that says it does. When I googled something like using windows mail in windows 10 with a screen reader, I found directions for using it with Narrator. I would think that if it works with Narrator, it would work with Jaws. Is anybody using it successfully? Thanks in advance for any information. I'm using charter web mail and I am aware I'm not replying to your reply to my email so I apologize in advance. If you did a recorded tutorial I think that would be great. Lol, I tried installing wlm yesterday as a matter of fact and phew, what issues I had. It kept freezing and just a mess. I'll stick to outlook 2013; however, a recorded tutorial would be great concerning wlm signitures. Have a good day sir... Your ISP is the company that provides your internet service, such as A TT, Time-Warner Cable ( also referred to as TWC),Verizon etc. I have an Identity which I have named Jaws-Users, and one named Rick. Within the Jaws-users Identity, I have 2 accounts, , 1 for each e-mail address, that I have for list management reasons. Re: [JAWS-Users] E-Mail Terminology
Thanks, Rick, for such a complete definition on terms that have confused some of us, me included. LeDon. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Rick Justice Sent: Saturday, March 14, 2015 4:17 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] E-Mail Terminology There seems to be a lot of confusion concerning e-mail terminology , so perhaps the following will help. Your ISP is the company that provides your internet service, such as A TT, Time-Warner Cable ( also referred to as TWC),Verizon etc. I have an Identity which I have named Jaws-Users, and one named Rick. Within the Jaws-users Identity, I have 2 accounts, , 1 for each e-mail address, that I have for list management reasons. In the Rick Identity, I have only 1 account, which is my personal e-mail address. I use this method for sorting purposes, and it is strictly a personal preference. Thanks, I do have it working. Comcast suggested that I delete the account and follow the steps that they sent to recreate it. -Original Message- From: Mike Boyd Sent: Saturday, February 07, 2015 1:44 AM To: JFW List Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] wlm mail accounts Lenny, Here are the settings to set up your Comcast email account. Re: [JAWS-Users] wlm mail accounts
Sure Kevin, The first thing that you need to do for setting up Gmail in WLM, is to sign into your Gmail acount at gmail.com, and find the forwarding item inside of the settings tab. Here, you need to select the IMAP as your choice because this is easier to use than the POP3 Server settings. While in the Settings tab, also select the item called Labels, and check off the folders that you want to appear in WLM under your Gmail account. Now, open up WLM and the Add an Account wizard, and start setting up the account by inputting your Gmail address, the password, etc. Be sure that the secure server and requires verification boxes are checked. The incoming server will be imap.gmail.com, and the port willbe 993. The outgoing server will be smtp.gmail.com, and this port will be 587. After this, just complete any other steps required, and then you should have your Gmail account appearing in the WLM main window. hth, Mike blindb...@comcast.net -Original Message- From: Kevin Lee Sent: Saturday, February 07, 2015 7:53 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] wlm mail accounts Mike would you happen to know the settings for gmail? Re: [JAWS-Users] wlm mail accounts
after starting a new message, shift tab about three times and there will be the different choices so use the up or down arrow to select and then tab until cc/bcc , subject, message body and all will remain with that address until you choose to change it again So in effect, you have the ability to select the default or change it using this method Good luck -Original Message- From: Lenny McHugh Sent: Friday, February 06, 2015 1:05 PM To: JFW List Subject: [JAWS-Users] wlm mail accounts Hello, In wlm under options you can add an email account.
