[JBoss-user] [Management, JMX/JBoss] - Filesystem External Context

Thanks. I didn't make the connection between my question and MDB singleton because in my scenario, there may be as many MDB instances as appropriate. Several messages may be processed in parallel, even on different nodes, as long as every message is only processed once. Concerning (4): Why not put the information in the documentation instead, e.g. 5.5 Message driven beans in cluster configurations - Michael View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bbop=viewtopicp=3870152#3870152 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bbop=postingmode=replyp=3870152 --- SF email is sponsored by - The IT Product Guide Read honest candid reviews on hundreds of IT Products from real users. [JBoss-user] [HTTPD, Servlets JSP] - Problem with cursor cache
I am running JBoss 4.0 with jdk1.4.2 and I am using microsoft jdbc driver. After Jboss is running for a couple of hours I get the following error: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Error setting up static cursor cache. I have googled alot and what I have found that the probable cause is that java do not have privallages to read or write to a directory. I added the tmp directory that is used by JBOSS to the java.policy file but it did not solve the problem. I have discovered that JBoss writes tmp files to Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temp\ The temp files are called scb_10992.tmp (scb_?.tmp) and there are files created milliseconds after each other. The number of files just keeps growing. But the files are all empty, 0k. The files are all open and I cannot delete if if JBOSS is running. I think that this is the cause of this error, also previously the error started with Too many files open , then after a while it became Error setting up static cursor cache. Now I only get the Error setting up static cursor cache. error. The number of files in the tmp directory grow to about 2400 files(which are all opened by JBOSS) before the error occur. I have been struggling for days with this and cannot find a solution, I also am not sure why this occurs, and also if this is the right place to look for a solution. Please can anyone help View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bbop=viewtopicp=3870155#3870155 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bbop=postingmode=replyp=3870155 --- SF email is sponsored by - The IT Product Guide Read honest candid reviews on hundreds of IT Products from real users. [JBoss-user] [EJB/JBoss] - UserTransaction and JNDI in JBoss 4
Hi When I try to get an UserTransaction in JBoss using the standard JNDI name java:comp/UserTransaction an exception is thrown (NameNotFoundException or something like this). Anyway, the needed UserTransaction object can be found at /UserTransaction JNDI name. Is there any way to get the UserTransaction object in JBoss 4 using the standard J2EE location? (java:comp/UserTransaction). In JBoss's manual it says that the deployer should automatically link the java:comp/UserTransaction name to an /UserTransaction : When components are deployed in an embedded web server, the deployer will make a JNDI link from the standard java:comp/UserTransaction ENC name to the global UserTransaction binding so that the web components can lookup the UserTranaction instance under JNDI name as specified by the J2EE. Even so, I cannot use the standard java:comp/UserTransaction string. Do I miss something? [JBoss-user] [Messaging, JMS JBossMQ] - Filter the data from jms message
I have a topic and more subscribers that listen to it. I want to filter the data contained in the jms message so that every subscriber receives just the data (the part of the message) that they are allowed to receive. So i need to filter the data before the subscriber reads it. Any advices/tips would be appreciated. I updated the jndi.properties as instructed, but it did not seem to cure the problem. Upon further examination, I noticed XDoclet did not generate the jndiURL or the jndiContextClass. Both fields in the web-service.xml are empty (as is the service name, which I have a bug issued with the XDoclet team for). I am not quite sure what should be in there, though. [JBoss-user] [EJB/JBoss] - Transaction Timeout and Locking issue
My first posting on this forum - so please be nice! :) I'm currently trying to debug our application, and I'm having problems interpreting the condition under which the following stack trace occured. The stack trace is enclosed below. We are using JBoss 2.4.3 in an EJB environment - using BMP and CMT. The first point: At various times during the execution of the application, a message in the logs is displayed showing that an EJB transaction has timed out - as seen in the first 4 lines of the stack trace. This message can appear on it's own multiple times throughout the lifetime of the application OR in this instance can be accompanied by a transaction rollback message. The log messages seem to implicate the LoginP session bean as being the owner of the transaction HOWEVER, I do not believe that this bean really is the owner of the transaction that is timing out. Having done some testing around this area - I'm able to create a test session bean running with Required type transactions - call it directly from a JSP page and have the transaction run beyond the TransactionTimeout period. I then see that the transaction times out YET the log message implicates a different bean altogether which was in no way involved in the thread of execution that I invoked. I'm guessing Log4J has screwed up here somehow? Second issue - the rolled back stack trace. I'm having difficulty understanding the underlying mechanism that led to this occurance. Obviously from the trace transaction 20790 timed out and rolled back - and we get a nice stack trace explaining where in the code it was. YET, if I follow the code through from the tag that invoked the process through to the point at which the call to DocumentE.getObject() is made, I see no new transactions started - so why was it waiting on another transaction? I guess the line in the stack trace QueuedPessimisticEJBLock.waitForTx - implies that the transaction that rolled back was in the queue - awaiting the completion of another transaction. If this is the case then is it true to say that between the start of my thread of execution doStartTag and the point at which the code getObject() on DocumentE was called - there has been another transaction started which has not completed? OR could this transaction be timing out because it wants to access a bean which is already in use but in use by another thread perhaps? My understanding of this queue and how it is used in a multithreaded request scenary is somewhat sparse (can anyone point me to a good reference as to how it works and it's correlation with database locking). My key question is - what COULD have occured in order for the transaction to be in the queue and in the waitForTx method? I guess the main problem I am having is that because the timedout log messages implicate the wrong bean (i.e. LoginP) - I've no way of knowing which bean started the transaction that led to the second transaction timing out AND then rolling back. Is it safe for me to assume that the bean that is at the point of contention is the DocumentE bean? i.e. it was in the waitForTX state BECAUSE it was trying to access a DocumentE bean which already had an associated transaction. Can anyone shed any light on how to interpret this stack trace. One other side-effect we are seeing - the database connection pool is returning NULLs after running for a period of time. Could this be related to the transactions that are timing out. I'm guessing that the transactions are timing out in the EJB world YET the underlying database transaction NEVER times out and thus stays active on one of the 100 database connections in the pool. Once we have 100 of these TIMEDOUT EJB transactions - then we may run out of useable database connections - which then leads to the pool returning NULLs. I can't for the life of me figure out how to enable debug logging on the JBossPool in JBoss 2.4.3 Thanks for reading - ANY constructive information would be greatly appreciated. [JBoss-user] [Persistence CMP/JBoss] - Deploy two versions of the same driver?
We would like to deploy two versions of the same Oracle jdbc driver. We are running against an Oracle 8.0.6 and a 8.1.7 instance. In order to use blobs we have to use a fairly recent driver for the 8.1.7 instance. Unfortunately, this driver has issues when reading metadata from a certain table in the 8.0.6 instance which causes deployment of the assocaited entity bean to fail. Question: is it possible to tell JBoss to use classes12.zip for the datasource pointing to the 8.0.6 instance and ojdbc14.jar for the 8.1.7 instance? [JBoss-user] [Installation Configuration] - Re: Log4j - separating logging from jBoss logging
I made some progress, but not as much as I'd like. Here is what I found: 1) The WAR approach in the WIKI above separates the logging, but does not seem to produce truly separate classloaders... if I have a log4j.jar in my WAR and is of a different version, or if I have 2 WARs with a class of the same name but different content... then I still have problems. 2) The EAR approach, similar to (1) but using jboss-app.xml in the EAR instead of jboss-web.xml in the WAR works on jBoss 3.2.3 (mostly), but does not work on jBoss 3.2.6 or jBoss 4.0.1. I suspect that it might work on jBoss 4.0.0 because it is J2EE 1.4 compliant, but I have failed at all attempted downloads of that version. 3) I have submitted a bug report, but I have not heard even a peep of an acknowledgement that anyone even read it. I hope this helps others, and that a proper solution will eventually appear. This is the single biggest problem that jBoss has, and its solution is now mandated by the J2EE 1.4 standard that jBoss claims to meet (of course, you have to know the secret setup to accomplish it - because the instructions in the release notes for jBoss 4.0.1 do not work). The unified classloader is a great concept - as long as it is not the only way and it is not used to lock people out of the write once run anywhere concept of java or is used to lock people into one application server. That may not be jBoss' intention, but it sure looks that way. [JBoss-user] [Management, JMX/JBoss] - Arbitrary JMX NotificationFilter(s) in ListenerServiceMBeanS
The filtering mechanism that supported only a fixed NotificationFilterSupport filter has been extended to support arbitrary filters, using a filter factory plugin mechanism. To activate this feature use the following configuration syntax: | mbean code=some-ListenerServiceMBeanSupport-base-subclass |name=jboss.example:name=NotificationListener |... | attribute name=SubscriptionList | subscription-list |... |mbean name=... | !-- assign an arbitrary filter to this subscription -- | filter factory=filter-factory-class-name | !-- configuration of the filter is different -- | !-- depending on the chosen factory -- | /filter |/mbean |... | /subscription-list | /attribute | ... | /mbean | For example: AttributeChangeNotificationFilterFactory This filter factory creates AttributeChangeNotificationFilters, configured to filter-in AttributeChangeNotifications for particular mbean attributes. For example, if you want to receive State change notifications from all mbeans in the jboss.system domain, use: |... |mbean name=jboss.system:* | filter factory=AttributeChangeNotificationFilterFactory | enable attribute-name=State/ | /filter |/mbean |... | MBeanServerNotificationFilterFactory This filter factory is really meant for filtering notifications from the MBeanServerDelegate mbean. Its primary purpose is to let you receive registration and/or unregistration notifications for selected ObjectNames (i.e. mbean instances). You need to configure both the notification types and the object names you are interested in. For example: |... |!-- filter in both JMX.mbean.registered JMX.mbean.unregistered -- |mbean name=JMImplementation:type=MBeanServerDelegate | filter factory=MBeanServerNotificationFilterFactory | enable type=JMX.mbean.registered/ | enable object-name=mydomain:name=somembean/ | enable object-name=mydomain:name=anothermbean/ | /filter |/mbean |... | This is all documented here: http://www.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=SubscriptionList (and here, too) http://www.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=ListenerServiceMBeanSupport http://www.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=ExampleMinimalNotificationListener The update will be available from the next jboss releases, i.e. v3.2.8RC1, v.4.0.2RC1 View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bbop=viewtopicp=3870183#3870183 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bbop=postingmode=replyp=3870183 --- SF email is sponsored by - The IT Product Guide Read honest candid reviews on hundreds of IT Products from real users. Hello, I was getting OutOfMemoryError in my application, so I started some profiling. I found out that after an Oracle query, the JBoss ConnectionPool is still holding 180MB in Oracle PreparedStatements. I initially had prepared statement cache turned to 10 statements. However, I removed that line from my Oracle DS config and this problem is still occurring. btw - yes, I am closing my result sets and prepared statements, i've checked the obvious It seems like JBoss' pool or cache should be able to release these objects, especially if memory is low. What a smart reply: why arent people read the stack trace?. That exception should not be happening: when a bean is passivated , the JNDI ENC must be maintained as part of the bean's conversational state. And it is the duty of the container. I wish JBoss would one day work properly. Not to mention (which is completely unrelated problem) the documentation from jboss that states that you should be able to specify under mbean code=org.jboss.jms.jndi.JMSProviderLoader ... attribute name=ProviderURL ... This attribute name is not supported (deprecated, but nowhere in jboss 4.0.1 this is stated), as I found out after lots of painful digging (moving towards old jboss version, where tad, I finaly see the warning message: is deprecated. Very poor indeed. And dont say its free, that does not justify this noddie quality View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bbop=viewtopicp=3870212#3870212 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bbop=postingmode=replyp=3870212 --- SF email is sponsored by - The IT Product Guide Read honest candid reviews on hundreds of IT Products from real users. Try reading the ejb spec more carefully. There is no requirement to passivate an InitialContext. [JBoss-user] [Persistence CMP/JBoss] - Re: Stateful session bean failed to passivate and save state
oabidian, You may want to go back and have a look at the EJB specification it may help your understanding of the requirements of the container. In the EJB 2.1 specification section 7.4.1 there is a list of the items that can be referenced by a bean that is being passivated, the item relating to JNDI contexts is: - anonymous wrote : A reference to the environment naming context (that is, the java:comp/env JNDI context) or any of its subcontexts. The InitialContext is the root context of the server, it is not the environment naming context or a sub-context of the environment naming context. So back to my original post, yes the stack trace did contain enough information to inform the original poster what the problem was. I'm using jBoss 4.0.1sp1. My log4j.jar is version 1.2.9. I played around with the logging. I like to use log4j.properties. I have been able to seperate the logging between jboss and myapp.war (I'm fairly new to all this, so have no idea how an EAR works). I have updated the wiki: http://www.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=Logging However, I still have to change jboss-service.xml on every server. I am checking to see if the approach outlined in the link above will work without doing that. Will post what I find, soon. The object cannot be processed in JBoss. The first 'bad' object prevents further queue processing. The queue will continue adding objects. However, the queue listener does not continue processing. The log4j.jar in server/default/lib is 1.2.8. The log4j.jar in server/default/deploy/myapp.war/WEB-INF/lib is 1.2.9. The log4j.properties system described in the wiki works even with different versions of jars being used by jBoss and my application. Does this mean something? [JBoss-user] [Installation Configuration] - Re: Log4j - separating logging from jBoss logging
I tested it out. If I want to use log4j.properties in my application, I will HAVE to make the required change in jboss-service.xml, i.e. rename the resource file that jBoss uses to pick up its log4j settings (conf/log4j.xml - conf/jboss-log4j.xml). [JBoss-user] [Security JAAS/JBoss] - Re: Organizational Role to Application Role mapping using LD
Don't know if you are still watching this thread - but I wanted to thank you for your posts - it is rare enough for someone to post an answer to their own question, much less such a well thought out and well explained answer. I have been looking at security role mappings in WebLogic and JBoss over the past day (using WebLogic 9, JBoss 4) and it appears to me that there is a capability in the weblogic.xml that is missing from jboss-web.xml. (Of course, I am pretty new to this, so I could be wrong). For simplicity, let's assume that we are only using declarative security and want to deploy an web application into an existing environment. We want to have an auth-constraint as: auth-constraint role-nameMyRoleName/role-name /auth-constraint In JBoss, I will have to have MyRoleName show up in my authentication source (e.g. that specific name will have to be in LDAP or the DBMS that I use for my loginModule). However, in WebLogic, I can use: security-role-assignment role-nameMyRoleName/role-name principal-nameSomeExistingWLGroup/principal-name /security-role-assignment So, it seems that WebLogic is offering some additional capability here - and that capability seems useful. But as I mentioned, I might be confused here. I saw a similar post at: http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bbop=viewtopicp=3868751#3868751, but there were no replies. Thanks in advance for any advice you might have on this subject. I have been looking at this same question. You may have already found: http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bbop=viewtopicp=3827512#3827512 - but I added a comment posing a question about capability that appears to be added in WebLogic. Did you resolve the problem you were having? I would be very interested in hearing what you did. I am coming to the conclusion that the capabilities offered by the two app servers are different, with the edge apparently going to WL here, but I will be the first to admit that I can get easily confused in this complexity. This is the precedence used by log4j so there is no way to preferentially load a log4j.properties file using the default search mechanism if there is a log4j.xml on the classpath search path. We should probably just rename our file to avoid the conflict. [JBoss-user] [Installation Configuration] - Re: Log4j - separating logging from jBoss logging
karanmg, I used the approach you mention in some of my tests. It seemed to work for isolating log4j, but did nothing for keeping EARs separate from each other. Redefining the problem one more time: I need total isolation of the contents of the EAR (like J2EE 1.4), including the logging. That way everything needed can be in the EAR, the EAR can be deployed to ANY version of the server, any server vendor, and logging is configured in the EAR and utterly independent. jBoss claims to allow this and there are some instructions - like the one referenced - that solve part of the problem. But I have yet to find a single set of instructions that solves the problem completely. At our company we are getting very close to dumping jBoss and declaring it unsupported because of this issue. A sad situation, since our focus is on open source. [JBoss-user] [JBossWS] - Re: Change Web service port number
JBossWS uses tomcat internally to handler the webservice requests, so the actual port that jbossws listens on is whatever your tomcat is configured to listen on. The value WebServicePort is just used for rewriting the service endpoint address in the wsdl. So basically you want to set the port there, as well as in your tomcat jbossweb-tomcat50.sar/server.xml. -Jason View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bbop=viewtopicp=3870262#3870262 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bbop=postingmode=replyp=3870262 --- SF email is sponsored by - The IT Product Guide Read honest candid reviews on hundreds of IT Products from real users. Yes head is JBoss 5, which will be a J2EE 1.5 implementation, so it contains ejb3. This is a development branch, so dont expect stability or completeness. There is also a preview release of ejb3 you can get from the download page. [JBoss-user] [Security JAAS/JBoss] - Re: Organizational Role to Application Role mapping using LD
I too think that I have answered my own question. Due to various configuration complexities, I believe I went down the wrong path. I no longer see the need for the information in the weblogic.xml file. In the scenario that I described earlier: anonymous wrote : For simplicity, let's assume that we are only using declarative security and want to deploy an web application into an existing environment. We want to have an auth-constraint as: | auth-constraint | role-nameMyRoleName/role-name | /auth-constraint | | In JBoss, I will have to have MyRoleName show up in my authentication source (e.g. that specific name will have to be in LDAP or the DBMS that I use for my loginModule). | | However, in WebLogic, I can use: | security-role-assignment | role-nameMyRoleName/role-name | principal-nameSomeExistingWLGroup/principal-name | /security-role-assignment In JBoss, if I want to use the security role SomeExistingWLGroup, then that is the role that I would use in the auth-constraint. Simple as that. It means that the customers will need to change the web.xml but that is no different than changing the weblogic.xml. So, the weblogic.jar makes it easy to statically configure your authentication source, but that is not really related to the web-app (which is why the security-role-assignment is not part of the Servlet spec and probably why it is not in JBoss). [JBoss-user] [JBossWS] - .NET client with doc/literal JBossWS service
I ran into a problem last week where I was trying to create a .NET client for a doc/literal JBoss web service. My WSDL included and imported serveral schemas (OAGIS schemas) from other files. It turns out the wsdl.exe from .NET SDK doesn't handle schema includes or imports where the URI has a query string. For example, the schema in my WSDL looked like this: | xs:schema targetNamespace=http://www.dis-corp.com/xml/2005/ebiz; | xs:import namespace=http://www.openapplications.org/oagis; schemaLocation=http://daved:8080/rentalsalesorder/RentalSalesOrder?wsdlamp;resource=SalesOrderFlat.xsd/ | ... | /xs:schema | My solution was to rework part of JBossWS to write the location like this: schemaLocation=http://daved:8080/rentalsalesorder/RentalSalesOrder/wsdl_resource/SalesOrderFlat.xsd; I can open a bug report and submit a patch if needed. [JBoss-user] [JBossWS] - Re: Deploy Problem ArrayOf_xsd_string
Hi, Here is a list of things that will probably fix your problem. 1. You are using rpc/encoded style webservices which is not allowed by WS Basic Profile 1.0, try using rpc/literal instead. 2. Try the latest version of jboss (4.0.1) 3. Don't use java2WSDL, use wscompile (included in the Sun JWSDP) 4. Take a look at the wiki for a nice step-by-step howto on creating an rpc service with J2EE style services. http://www.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=WSRPCServiceStepByStep Thanks, -Jason View the original post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bbop=viewtopicp=3870269#3870269 Reply to the post : http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bbop=postingmode=replyp=3870269 --- SF email is sponsored by - The IT Product Guide Read honest candid reviews on hundreds of IT Products from real users. Yes, but... Isn't it better to do what you can to make a system work instead of making it someone else's problem? I am also submitting this to the .NET folks, but who knows when or if they will get around to fixing it? This change only negatively impacts JBoss in that you can't have a web service bound to a URL with /wsdl_resource/ in it. The positive impact of working with a .NET client far outweighs that in my situation, and I would think it would in most cases. You could create your own MBean (that's perhaps remotely accessible or not) that, given a String, calls the JBoss MBean for you. [JBoss-user] [Installation Configuration] - NamingServer_Stub identifying itself as 127.0.0.1:1098 on Li
I am having a problem getting remote J2EE clients to talk to a Linux JBoss server. The server is running JBoss 3.2.6, Sun JDK 1.4.2_06, and RHEL 3 and Red Hat Linux 9. The problem is that when a remote client connects to the naming service, the connection to 1099 goes through fine, but the returned NamingServer_Stub identifies itself as a remote reference to the IP 127.0.0.1 and the port 1098. This can be confirmed by doing a: telnet XX.XX.XX.XX 1099 The client then attempts to connect to 127.0.0.1:1098, but there is no JBoss server running on the client so the connection fails. After looking in the forums, I found the following post: http://www.jboss.org/index.html?module=bbop=viewtopict=4962 Which mentions setting the java.rmi.server.hostname system property at server startup time. I was wondering if anyone was aware of the root cause of this problem or any other workarounds. Is it related to machines not appearing in DNS? We do not have direct control over the machines we will be deploying this software on and I have no idea if they will be multi-homed or if eth0 will be the preferred interface. Determining the java.rmi.server.hostname system properly from an installation script may be problematic. A related question, how does JBoss handle multi-homed machines? Is the IP address returned in the remote reference to NamingServer_Stub hardcoded to one of the interfaces? Does the interface it use depend on the IP address used to connect to 1099? [JBoss-user] [JBossWS] - Re: .NET client with doc/literal JBossWS service
Interesting. Did you open a bug with Microsoft on this, they should support any valid url string as that is allowed by the schema? Also, if you don't want to maintain your own tree of jbossws there is an option you can add to your jboss.xml or jboss-web.xml called wsdl-publish-location. It controls where the wsdl files, and related elements are published (in a directory fasiion). So you could configure a wsdl location on your filesystem that is exposed via tomcat or apache. Thank you for offering a patch, If you dont think the above is an acceptable workaround, you can submit this as a feature enhancement request/patch in jira http://jira.jboss.com/jira/browse/JBWS. [JBoss-user] [Management, JMX/JBoss] - Re: removeClassLoader operation in jmx console
Removal of a class loader from the ULR is not supported from the jmx-console, remotely in general, and is a questionable thing to do as you are essentially fracturing the type system associated with the removed class loader. Every class loaded by that class loader remains bound to it as long as there are references to the classes or class loader itself. Recycling of classes needs to be done via redeployment.
