Re: [JPP-Devel] About Openjump SaveImageasSVG (and a question) - Giuseppe Aruta
Thanks Stephan, I think I solve the problem using Inkscape to draw again the symbols I mìssed, I will try the Cadplan Printlayout plugin and see what happens. I have a question, northing connected to Openjump develop, but a curisity. In some drawing software, exporting to WMF/EMF gives good vector file with all the original colour and line properties. When I export a file to EMF with Inkscape I generally have a file quite smaller than the original SVG. What are all the limits (Java libraries, Copywrite, Openjump limites) to have a SaveAsWMF plugin for Openjump. Thank you Giuseppe Aruta ___ L'email della prossima generazione? Re: [JPP-Devel] About Openjump SaveImageasSVG (and other vector formats)
Hei Sascha, I found this interesting site: http://java.freehep.org/vectorgraphics/index.html "The VectorGraphics package of the FreeHEP Java Library enables any Java program to export to a variety of vector graphics formats as well as bitmap image formats. Among the vector formats are PostScript, PDF, EMF, SVF, and Flash SWF, while the image formats include GIF, PNG, JPG and PP" As far as I understood (I am not a Java programmer) the java packages of Vector Graphic are all separated - probabily people can use only some of them (eg. PS PDF and EMF instead of all). I don't know if this could be useful for future Openjump develop Giuseppe ___ L'email della prossima generazione? Puoi averla con la nuova Yahoo! Re: [JPP-Devel] Fwd: Writing Help File (Giuseppe)
Sunburned Surveyor I read with attention the SCRIBUS templates you sent about Openjump Help. I start to tranfer the Menu>View function in a similar SCRIBUS document. I have some consideration I would like to talk with you 1)the Page orientation has a landscape (1,00x8,50 inch) size. This is good for Presentation (That's not a bad Idea!). Nevertheless we lose a lot of space on the lateral and on the bottom/upper sizes of the page that we could use to detail the functions or to put images We could enlarge the margins of the page or we can use a standard A4 Portrait page (but we lose the Presentation size) 2) In Title_page.sla document you place enphasis on the explanation. This, I think, could give some confusion, expecially for Non-English readers, like me. I always image for a help something like "less text more image". A sort of "topographic map" of OpenJUMP for the users (see as samples the files I wrote in Openwriter). I send you a modification of the Title_page.sla file, as I image (sorry for my English) 3) There are so many functions in OpenJump that it is not possible to describe each of them in sepatate pages. We are obliged, anyhow, to simplify the description of the most common functions (like "Save Project","Undo", "redo", etc..) and to put groups them in one page in order to save space. 3)My basical idea about a Help Document is a sistematic list of functions, simple but detailed enough to understand the usage. All the extra, detailed explanations could be written in other documents, like tutorials, To give force to my Idea, I invite you to see this page: http://www.forestpal.com/Help/fGIS_help.html This is the help and tutorial of a Gis editor "Forestry GIS" which became popular for its simplicity (as Openjump) but also for the simplicity of the help file which is also a sort of tutorial Giuseppe - P.S. Giuseppe wrote: "Anyhow may name is Giuseppe and not Guiseppe, which sounds in Italian like a "playmate french name." Sunburned Surveyor answerd: "These European names are really proving to be difficult for an American hill billy. I appreciate your patience with my cultural ignorance. :]" London(?), I am very sorry if hit your sensibility. I have never considered you an "American hill billy" but an intelligent person who relly contribute to an international project like Openjump ;]. Probabily Pirol's raster plugin is better than the internal OJ raster display but, the internal one can open ECW file (putting the ECW dll libraries in the lib/ext directory) and it seems to be quite faster than Pirol's. Of coarse with Pirol's one user can change image properties which internal on can't. Pirol's can also display very well JPG and PNG (internal one has still problems, I think). I have a question: is it possible to tranfer ECW capability to the pirol'splugin? Or is it possible to extend the Pirol's Image Property capability to the internal one? PS. [JPP-Devel] Using Openjump. Obsevations, Ideas, etc (Peppe)
Dear Developers After using Openjump for a while I wrote some observations and ideas that I had (as user, not as developer). I do not want to open a discussion, and probabily some of these points have no "common feeling" or probabily always had answer. I want only to share with you my experience as newcomer in Openjump, and also the feeling I had from other people I bring to Openjump I write them in order of importance (my personal point of view, of coarse!) 1) Export display parameters of a layer to other projects. The displayed parameters of a dataset (colours of lines, polygons, fill, winth, etc) are saved only in the program file (.JMP). Neverthess, if people want to use the same dataset in a different project, they must setup again the displayes parameters. At the beginning I thought that "View>Tranform layer Style into SLID" was the function to use. I had to change my idea. A function in Openjump that saves displayed parameters of a dataset to, for example, a sepatate extra XML or TXT file, would be fine. This file wuold be used to display again the same parameters when the dataset is opened again in other projects I have no idea about the difficulties for developers to build this function. The proposal is to have two extra functions on Layer Menu: "Save Layer Properties to (?) file" and a "Load Layer Properties from (?) file". 2) Setup question. I started to suggest Openjump to my friends or students. The main difficulty I found with people is connected to Java machine. Some people do not setup well JAVA machine so Openjump does't work. Some other "Windows" people simply don't understand to "click on Openjum.bat" file to run Openjump. They expect the launcher on the desktop (and .bat still remember them the ol'good difficult DOS). I started to give people a version of Openjump 1.2B with Java embedded, similar to Openjump Merge. Proposal: I think it would be fine to have on the web site two versions of Openjump: a) one with setup and Java embedded for easy people, b) the second one - no java no stup - for smart people. 3)DXF/DWG Openjump is becoming, thanks to edit/drawing tools and SVG export, a good mapping software. A lot of mapping datas are in dwg format and some people cried the absence of a dxf/dwg import option. I always recomand them the good Michael's dxf plugin. Proposal: If Michael agrees, this plugin could be embedded in Openjump. Regarding dwg I image it is only a problem of time. 4) Save file observation. There is still some confusion for newcomers about the difference betwee "Save Datasets as file..." and "Save dataset as..". (See Michael and Uwe discussion in [JPP-Devel] Load/Save dataset design). I tried to point out in a help documentation I posted some weeks ago. Nevertheless there are still newcomers who use "Save dataset as.." ... and they forget the suffix! I belive, like Uwe, that it is important to have a suffix built automatically. 5) PostGIS I think it's time to transalte Uwe's Portgis tutorial in English (if Uwe agrees, of coarse) maybe integrated with how to use Orbiscad and Openjump together. Proposal: Does somebody thranslate from German to English (otherwise this summer I will try to refresh my scarse German with Uwe's documentation)? 6)Editing tools (not very seriuos!) It would be nice to have some editing tools in a "Inkscape-like" style. Examples, tranfering some editing tools on the mouse: a) one left-click mouse>edit/move object b) two left click mouse>edit/move verticles c) three left-click mouse>free rotation This probabiy makes Openjump editing tools more "international-ized" Is this something difficuld to build? Regarding online help you also wrote: " I don't think that we have online help of any type.. I didn't want to start something else I wouldn't finish. :]" Right. There's no time to do everything. Enyhow we could use the TIPS page instead, to add few tricks which would be useful for users (for examples: how to use ECW or SID, where to find the "legal" libraries). All the tricks will be also in the help documentation. I ask you this since I wrote a part of help>Layer menu (add raster.., add MrSID, etc) and I think to add informations about how to use correctly ECW and MrSID import libraries (inncluding licences, etc). Regarding DWG licence problems: I wander if Saig, Municipalidad de Valencia and Orbiscad had problems with Autodesk. Since they all use jave dwg libraries in their softwares (Kosmo, GvSIG and Orbiscad). I image all their libraries come from the original Josè Morrel's project. Peppe P.S. Edgar, Pedro, Sunburned and Stefan I am testing Edgar's CTS since it seems to be useful for many users and I want to add a description about it in the help documentation. I followed the help file to instal it: 1) put files from gt2jump.cts-0.1a/ext to OJ/lib/ext folder 2) Check if in Openjump.bat (Windows) file ‘lib/ext’ is in the classpath By the time I try to set coordinate system I always had the same error message "can't locate cs.conf..." I also saw this page http://openjump.org/wiki/show/Installing+PlugIns and Ravi/Edgar. And I tried in different ways (other foldre and other classpath). Maybe I missed something. Coul you help me? [JPP-Devel] OpenJUMP 1.2 Beta vs Openjump Nightly Build
Hi all, I saw that OpenJUMP 1.2 Beta is still available on Sourge forge. Nevertheless OJ nightly build walked more further. Many important bugs were solved (see snap options)and there are also some small but significant modifications (see the desapeared "Open or Save datastore as file.." function from "file" menu). Many new user would be confused and download the buggy OJ Beta instaead of new nightly build ones which seem to work better. Questions/proposals: 1) is it time to upgrade OJ BETA on Sourgeforce to one of the latest nightly build? 2) would we call it OpenJUMP 1.2 (no beta). Nightly Builds solve bugs but they are on the road to something different (OJ 1.3?) because of the small modification and other up-to-come projects (ex. see Paul Austins' Open (File) Plugin project) 3) What about to plan a sort of road map for the future (OJ 1.3 and maybe OJ 1.4)? Re: [JPP-Devel] Coming off of hiatus...
Hi SS Hi Stefan, I read my mails every now and then so I took some days to answer. I currently finished to write the Menu bar functionalities. I detailed some functions and I simly described others. My idea is to give a simple description of all, nevertheless I also add, for some of functions, tricks or some interiesting extra functionalities (see ECW or Clone window as Navigation tool). I still don't know where to reach. I want to finish all the functionalities (menu bar, toolbar, list view and layer view. I se there's a lot of documentation which can be used (ex. Uwe's manual, Vivid's, OJthe Merge). There is also al lot of documentation which originally was extra documentation of former plugin (e.g. Isa tools or Simple query) in PDF which could be used in the new help documentation. I wnt to collect all and ask the authors (one is you Stefan, with Isa Tools) the permision to put only the PDF on line, with links to the Help documentation (list of functions). The idea is to join all the documentation alread written of OJ (as Manuals, as extra description of plugin, pdf, txt, etc) to get a complete documentation in few months. A sort of BETA documentation. By the time that SS defines the "New help documentation" with the new functionalities (no metter if external doc or as a wiki) all my documentation could be joined with it in order to have a "robust" documentation. My plan till October is to write those extra docs (as wiki): Toolbar List View Layer View I have an extra documentation: import/export files, which I would put on line: it is a sort of table of all supported and unsupported types of file in OJ. Users have information about how to convert, which extra software to use, how to use (ex. DWG to DXF, DXF 2002 to DXF 2000, DGN, E00 and also rasters or spatial tables). This is the plan for next (2) months. The help I need: English correction (of coarse) and Ideas and correction of descriptions. SS you are very welcome if you want to correct my wiki page. ** I think also that the general "documentation page" has to reorganize to help people to fine what they want. A proposal is to separate it in two pages: "Onlyne documentation" (PDF, DOC,TXT etc) and "Wiki". Anyhow there time to think about. ** Nex mail-control: in 6-7 days. Re: [JPP-Devel] To Sunburned Surveyor - Help files
Hi london, I am on holiday now but I upgrade a part of wiki help page. Only the "Menu bar" is finished. It is as simple as possible (no images, simple description) in order to give a simple idea about the functions. Of coarse it is not finished because it requires sometimes more. As I wrote in a former letter I will be glad if you correct the English and add information I could miss. By the time I will be back home I want to put the "toolbar" page. It'll be more elaborated since I want to put images. This part of help has more former documentation (Vivids, Uwe's and a PDF of Isa extension) which I pobabily use as a semple. My problem in this moment is (or what I feel as a problem): Should I repit what is already written in other PDF docs? e.g. tool bar functions or Change Style dialog window. I thought to re-write everything anyway. If you have any idea about, we can talk each other and take a decision. Right now I appreciate if you, or other developers and user, could give me new idea or show me if I do mistakes. Re: [JPP-Devel] Coming off of hiatus... Help docs
Hi Stefan, I will be back home on next mondey. I'll have a week I cfan work on OJ , then back to work, to geological map. I think I'll use OJ for a new cartographic project so I could write a tutorial for geololgists. *** I upgrade the "List of functions" wiki page with two new docs (Toolbar and Botton Bar), being as simple as possible (a sort of "What's this?") but linking tools to Uwe's and Vivids documentation. I am writing an upgrade "Editing toolbox" doc which I would like to link to "Toolbar". This doc is a sum of Vivids, Uwe's and your documentation about Toolbar and Isa extention (Constrained polygons, Resize, etc). Since it has more pictures it is probabily not usefull to put as a wiki. I probabily save it as PDF ** I want to add some pictures on "List of function" wiki in order to give an idea about where are the tools or functions (e.g. a basic picture which shows where is the List View, the Toolbar, the Botton Bar, etc and a picture of the toolbar). Let me know how I do. * HELP TUTORIAL I take a time to answer to your former letter. I think that, by the time that the "List of function" is over, we should think to work to an upgrade tutorial. I think that Uwe's Tutorial seems perfect to be upgrade (if Uwe agrees), since it covers the majority of the OJ information and it is already in 3 of the principal languages (German, French and English). Only English needs some corrections. We could start to setup all other docs to add at the Uwe's Tutorial (tools, editing toolbox, maybe usage of plugins, etc) Peppe - - L'email della prossima generazione? Puoi averla con la nuova Yahoo! You can modify directly the wiki pages which I have written. On "Tools" wiki page I had problem to explain what are "Simplify ISA and JTS algorithm". If you can write few notes about them directly on that page? I took Stefan's Idea, the "List of Function" has to be simple, a sort of "What's this" and a simple "How to". I always reference to on-line documentation (VIVID and Uwe's one). Nevertheless we lack documentation for new implemantations in OJ1.2. Uwe is working to upgrade his tutorial. In this moment I think to write small wiki page which I link to the related function. E.g. I am writing an "Editing Toolbox" wiki linked to "Toolbar" page to explain new editing/drawing tools, following a RAVI's request. Re: [JPP-Devel] about GDBMS and CAD and JML support
Hi devel, I had this interesting conversation in USER list with Erwan Bocher (GDMS project). I post on DEVEL since it seems to me an interesting line of developing (stand alone JAVA converter with JML support) ** (From erwan bocher) Hi,I have created a wrapper from GDMS datasource tofeatureCollection butit's just a converter. If someone is interested, I can explain how to use GDMS api. R1 ( http://geosysin.iict.ch/irstv-trac/wiki/GDBMS/Project). (From Peppe) Hi Erwan, I am working with DWG files. I want to use OJ because it can export to SVG in order to have vector maps. I belive that OJ has to work in its native file format (SHP or JML) so a good converted between CAD to SHP is welcome. OrbisCAD works fine but it is too low (I need to work with 10 or more DWG files with 60-80 Mb).A stand-alone converter would be desiderable.Do you think it is possible to create astand-alone JAVA soft converter,in support to JAVA software like OJ or Kosmo? In case affermative, do you think it is possible to add JML (OJ GML format)to this converter. Peppe * (From erwan bocher) OrbisCAD is slow yes but the new GDMS is more faster. Yes. It's possible to do this with GDMS. GDMS will be a substitute to OGR2OGR in java. I think it's not very difficult to add jml driver in GDMS. Currently we have a fast gml reader prototype build with VTD-XML. If you are ready you can adapt it to JML. See u R1 ** (From Peppe) Hi R1, I have no idea how to adapt, as I am not a programmer (I wrote help docs). If other OJ Devel member read there mails, I'd like to read their opinion: about a stand-alone converter for OJ (and other java soft) which convert between different files (included DWG/DXF) and has a support for JML. Hi all, I have a sort of request/idea for a future development of OJ. I am writiung a small PDF doc with all the essentil things about OJ: List of functions, tools, editing toolbox, Change style and attribute value. I image that this doc could work as an embedded help if it is possible to open it within OJ. The require is that OJ must have in the Help menu an extra submenu ("like "open help" or similar) which simply opens the PDF. 1) The PDF could be internationalized 2) downloaded OJ won't have PDF embedded 3) we live the PDF on the web site, if people want to download it and put in OJ folder 3) It helps the internationalization of the menus: we can only translate the menus and submenus: people can search on help if they want to understand the tools Peppe - - L'email della prossima generazione? Is the OJ NB sequence progressive (the last in the sequence has all the improvements and fixed bugs from the other)? The requests: I ask if it it is possible to add to every Nightly Build a TXT file on which the developers write which are the new improvemets. Or maybe a wiki page would be better where developers write all the changes they did and bugs they solved. An observation. Some Nightly Build are really improvemets of the original OpenJUMP 1.2 and probabily they must go on a different lineage like OpenJUMP 1.3 Other Nighly Build are bug fixed Thanks Peppe ___ L'email della prossima generazione? Regarding OJ I feel that all the icons connected to "cut, copy, remove items" and "view/edit shema or attributes" and "remove layer" will be fashonable and useful. I have an extra proposal: since all the fundamental functions connected to items are on the "Layer View" menu (Cut, copy, delete, ratate, group, etc), it would be useful to have also the "move items" (which is actually on the Editing toolbar) Peppe ___ L'email della prossima generazione? Hi, I note this strange things about raster images on the last OJ NB (with ecw dll embedded): 1)I create a project with some raster ecw (topography) and some working shape layers. When I save the project, a warning message appears on the bottom bar: "some layers were not saved to the project file:". Of coarse, when I re-open the project file, rasters are not displayed in the layer list (and layer view). Re: [JPP-Devel] About embedded help
Hi SS you wrote: "We have the contect sensitive help in OpenJUMP wired to Open the URL to the wiki. We then provide select PDF files for important help topics as a download on SourceForge for those that might not always have an internet connection." I still consider that OJ has to open a small HELP.PDF file (people have to download it and put in a OJ folder). A small PDF (with all the essential information about the tools and functions) could be translated in different languages. Even if it is not regularly upgraded as the wiki page, it is very usefull. This will help people who doesn't use english to understand the function. I can provide Italian translation, our beloved users or developers can translate in whatever language they use. E.g. the main OJ languages (Finnish, French, German) Of coarse we can in OpenJUMP menu also the the alternative to open the regular wiki page, in this case only in English -- Stefan's idea was to use "export to HTML" in the wiki page. This probabily will make the work more easy. Unfortunately this command seems not to work :( -- P.S. This will help also to the "internationalization" of OJ. If we have some help.pdf docs in other languages, there's no need to internationalization all OJ but only the lebels of menus Peppe --- Sunburned Surveyor <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ha scritto: > Larry wrote: "One of the problems is that once you > have published a PDF, it is around forever > regardless of how out of > date it becomes. Hi SS, I am glad that you open this discussion. I was thinking about since I am interested about how to make OJ more visible for non-english users. I am sending, attached to this email, a "proposal" to internationalized OJ Wiki Page. This sample is in English, but I image similar pages in Finnic, French, German, Italian, etc, all linked together This page would be a sort of "small brother" of the main page (which remains in English). But it must have the essntial about OJ (what's OJ, download, how to setup, how to put the relative language, the docs (in relative language, otherwise in English), the plugin and User and Devel list). Everything in one page. I did this page taking from WIKIs what I thought was important for OJ If you and other developers agree I can try to write the Italian WIKI page as a sample Regards, peppe --- Sunburned Surveyor <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ha scritto: > I have a short post on the OpenJUMP blog about > reorganizing our > OpenJUMP wiki to be a little more structured. > > If you are interested you can read the post here: > > http://openjump.blogspot.com/ > > The Sunburned Surveyor > > - > This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc. > Still grepping through log files to find problems? > Stop. > Now Search log events and configuration files using > AJAX and a browser. > Download your FREE copy of Splunk now >> > http://get.splunk.com/ > ___ > Jump-pilot-devel mailing list > Jump-pilot-devel@lists.sourceforge.net > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/jump-pilot-devel > ___ L'email della prossima generazione? Re: [JPP-Devel] R: Using PDF Files As Embedded Help
You are right Larry, the problem is that working with HTML means to separate the original opendoc in different pages, since "save to" HTML page saves to only one big page, difficult to manage. I have no idea how to split the opendoc and save it to different HTML saving the links between them. More than this a small PDF can also be used as a separate tutorial and not embedded in OJ. I think we can leave opened the two option, HTML and PDF. Re: [JPP-Devel] Help Adding Menu Item Via PlugIn
Hi SS, I am very curious about your project. I am sending this link http://www.mapmaker.com/. This is the "gloriuos" mapmaker GIS software which has an embedded PDF file as help. The setup software doesn't include the help file. tThe latter is basically a big manual. But the in the menubar-help there is a function which includes the possibility to download and to open the PDF I think this is a valid idea. I wander how it can be ported to OJ Regards Peppe ___ L'email della prossima generazione? Puoi averla con la nuova Yahoo! [JPP-Devel] to SS and Stefan - about online New User Guide
Dear SS and Stefan, I want to make a modification on "Documentation" page. I would like to move London's page "New User Guide" up in the page, between "Faq" and "List of functions" lines. I belive it is time to upgrade this page using elements from Faq and Tips, from one side, and pages already written. Since this New User Guide is not finished, this page would be "Under Construction". We probabily can also use "New User Guide" as a base page where we can move those pages which seem not tofind their right place, like tips, scripting, printing and loading GPS I ask you, London, the permission to link information from other wiki to your page (e,g your "Data imput/Output" seems similar to "import/export files" page (http://openjump.org/wiki/show/Import+Export+File) and probaily write othe rinformation (like how to georeference rastes, etc) Regards Peppe ___ L'email della prossima generazione? [JPP-Devel] @ Sefan - Upgrade OJ 1.2D to 1.2E? Future developments?
Hei Stefan, I think that we are in the same situation of some months ago. OpenJUMP NB has gone far ahed from OJ 1.2D. Some bugs have been fixed and other utilities have been added (save to georeferenced raster, Zoom real time, layer properties). I think we can plan to move to OpenJUMP 1.2E stable realize or organize the OJ 1.3 next realize also with the new tools that Paul, Larry and SS are working around. I want your opinion about I would like to prepare a "Future development" wiki page to complete the similar "Future request" wiki which seems out-to-date I would like to know from developers which are the projects for the future. As far as I know: Paul is working on an "Open File.." plugin Larry is adding SkyJUMP features to OJ (next realize: text tool, colourtool?) SS is working on a the help plugin. There must be more other developments but I don't remember in this moment. Would you help me to complete the list? Thanks Peppe ___ L'email della prossima generazione? Puoi averla con la nuova Yahoo! [JPP-Devel] a rewiew on menu bar
Hi I am reviewing the menu bar wiki page which I wrote. I want to show some improvements about the organization of menu. 1) In the File menu there are two voices which can be better explained: a) "Save Image as SVG format", tecnically this wpould be better as "Save View as SVG format" or "Save Layer View as SVG..." b) "Save Image as..",would be better explained as "Save Layer View as..." Since they both do the same thing (save the Layer view) I think they can be grouped in a single menu: "Save Layer View" with two submenus: "Save as SVG" and "Save as Raster" 2) In the layer menu there are "Add MrSID layer" and "Add Image layer". These two voices would be better in the "File" menu, not in "Layer" menu since they both open files (even raster). I think they can go in a sinlge menu: "Load Raster(s)...", below "Load Dataset(s)...". Which has two submenus. ("Add Image" and "Add MrSID"). Of coarse untill Paul's "open files.." will be ready :) BTW - MrSID layer has a warning message that dispalys a message if no MrSID library is installed ("C:\\openjump-20070921-0020\etc\mrsiddecode.exe not installed"). Could we use something similar for ECW so we delete that "ecw deactivated" from menu? Thanks Peppe ___ L'email della prossima generazione? Puoi averla con la nuova Yahoo! Re: [JPP-Devel] Image Framework In OpenJUMP
Hi SS, I did some test some months ago between the raster plugins. This is a comparition I did between Pirol Raster plugin and the embedded "Add Image Layer" raster plugin in OpenJUMP What Pirol can do (and OpenJUMP not) 1) support Transparency 2) Support mask colour 3) raster layers are saved in the project file What Add immegery layer does better (comparing to Pirol) 1) Support ECW (in windows, with ECW libraries) 2) it seems faster in rendering. Expecially when I change the zoom level I use the embedded "Add Image Layer" which seems useful for regular usage (expecially if you active ECW). I use Pirol only if I need to set transparency and/or I want to save the project with raster layer (very rare). I also had problems with Sigle plugin. As far as I remember Pirol plugin and Sigle seemed to be in conflict each other. Try to install Sigle without Pirol. Hi Stefan, attached to this mail there is the Italian Language files with the correction which pointed out by by Michael. some notes: 1) English word "Buffer" probabily remains the same in Italian. 2) I left the word "Layer" in the menu even if the correct word in Italian is "Livello". Re: [JPP-Devel] @Michael - revison on CAD
Michaël Michaud <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ha scritto:Hi Peppe, I read your page about CAD. Good documentation ! Here are some propositions to be more precise about what the driver can do and what it cannot : - subset of supported geometries features (ex. POINT, POLYLINE..., I'll check that) - list of dxf feature attributes imported (COLOR, THICKNESS..., see the schema of an imported dxf file) - more precise description of how polylines are imported : the DXF "closed" field is used to know if geometries have to be imported as polygons or as polylines. This way the parser can make a difference between a closed line (a polyline with identical first and last points but without the closed dxf attribute) and a polygon (a closed polyline with the closed attribute) : to test it, you can draw a polygon and a closed polyline in jump, export it in dxf and import it back into jump. - we should also write that the plugin is able to "export" DXF files from OpenJUMP, even if this is less useful than importing cad drawings. - I did not test all the dxf version you considered (8 to 14/2002). Hope that works. The driver is based on an old version of DXF specification (10 or 12, don't remember exactly). Most of new features are simply ignored. One major limitation is about local coordinates : if some objects in the drawing are described in a local coordinate system, the parser will ignore that and use them as if they were absolute coordinates. I read attributes such as color and thickness as normal jump attributes because basically, a jump driver read geometries and attributes, not styles. But reading your paper, I thought that it should not be too difficult to write a script which can apply styles to dxf-layers using their dxf-attributes (I'll give this a try) Peppe - - L'email della prossima generazione? Larry Becker <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ha scritto:Hi Michaël, As I might have mentioned before, we use your dxf plugin extensively. I have been meaning to write that auto-style script too. Hope you get it done first :-) There are some issues with styling text, since you don't usually want the point displayed, and also, by default, the text centers on the point instead of left justifying. In fact, I added the new label style left justification for just this purpose. This introduces an item on my dxf wish list. ESRI's DXF import automatically places text, points, linestrings, and polygons on their own layer. I don't know of a precedent for this in JUMP, but I don't see why it isn't possible, do you? Clearly it would make automated styling easier. regards, Larry < Hi Larry What about Kosmo DXF impost plugin? It seems to work as you describe. Re: [JPP-Devel] Language files - an outline
I want to point out a small problem with actual translation of OJ in other languages: When OJ starts it automatically sets on my language (Italian). I know how to go back in English (startup script)in order to use the wiki help. But probabily many users (expecially Finnic, Spanish and Italian) will find strange the startup script modification. If they know a little bit of English and want to use wiki help pages they probabily will have difficulties. For instance, if a portuguase, spanish, finnic or italian user (who knows a little bit of English) wants to use OJ and compare it to help wikis (which are in English), It is not certain that he knows (or he wants to know) how to switch back in English writing Duser.language==EN. Of coarse German and French users suffer less for this (thanks to the Uwe's documentation). I would like to make things easier for every user I image two options: 1) Probabily we need to invert the way OJ uses the language. I think that an option which gives to the users the ability to change the languages will be fine. * I did it in MSDOS using a group of folder associated to OJ root: every folder (IT, DE, EN, ec)had the same startup script file (OpenJUMP.bat) but with different language option (one with Duser.language=it, another with Duser.language=De, etc). I prepared a language.bat script which only gives me the options to change languages (coping the corresponding script to OJ/BIN folder). I ask you if it is not difficult to create a JAR file which does the same. That we can use as a Language option tool PS it seems to me that GvSIG uses the same system 2) OJ needs documentation in other languages. I wait for Uwe's new tutorial since I want to translate it in Italian, too. As I wrote in a former letter also the list of functionalities has to be translates in other languages. This solution seems very useful. But I prefer also the first one since working only on documentation languages will create a separation between users of different nationalities. Also the second solution requires more job PS if you think about a tool to change languages in OJ, this probabily could work as an indipendent software (not a plugin of OJ). It could be useful to setup the language during OJ installation Thanks for your attention Peppe ___ L'email della prossima generazione? Puoi averla con la nuova Yahoo! [JPP-Devel] @Erwan Bocher - about Cut Polygon Plugin
Hi R1 Your plugin "Cut Polygon" from prog. Sigle seems very interesting. It is useful to cut islands inside polygons, or duing some small cuts in the window. Using OJ as mapping software, I always have to create islands in a map. A tool like yours will make this action faster than "creating holes + drawing polygons inside", as actually OJ allows to *** I wander if you planned to add Cut-polygon plugin in OJ. *** It could be also usefull if added as a keyboard shortcut. Actually Shift + "drawing a polygon tool" creates a hole in a selected polygon. It would make more sense if this action creates an island. Than Users will delete the island if requires. Or > are these two > different tools? > > stefan Hi Stefan, I have been abroad for working 10 days so I answer late your letter, even if Erwan already define the SIGLE project: Cut polygon by SIGLE (Erwan's) provides an easy way to cut a polygon, using a sort of "negative" polygon tool. This works fine if people need to create many "islands" inside a big polygon area A couple of examples: 1) I have to define a lava field with many vulcanic small cones 2) I have to define inside an omogeneous forest of oak trees small population of other plant varieties Using Erwan's plugin would be much more easy. Of coarse, Th OJ embedded cut polygon is useful in other situation, like dividing a large area. Peppe ___ L'email della prossima generazione? Puoi averla con la nuova Yahoo! Please, see how I organize the notes. I saw that we use "function" (I) and "command" (you) as synonymous in the text. we probabily must use a unique term to evoid any possible confusion.
