Now there's a true statement. I have spent the better part of a year downloading material from the archives as well as various builders' = sites and incorporated all the different methods of construction as well as changes into my own construction manual. Everything printed out and = inserted into the Rand manual in the corresponding section as well as added a few sections that didn't exist before. After buying the project and reading = the plans as originally printed, I was almost ready to use the project as expensive load of firewood. Thankfully I couldn't find the chainsaw = before I started reading the archives. The more I read the clearer the = construction methods became and that load of firewood is now starting to resemble an actual aircraft. Not as fast as I would have preferred, but that was by = my choice as the changes were incorporated and each adds to construction = time. If a person was to start from scratch using all the new mods already = drawn into his/her plan set I wouldn't be surprised if the original build time could be greatly reduced. How long did it take Bill Clapp to put his = little gem together? In any event it is up to the individual builder to decide what they are comfortable with. Buy the plans, make the design changes you wish = and get another set of plans drawn up that reflect these changes before you = even start ordering wood let alone cutting and gluing. Hi Mick; It would help if you would put your e-mail address in your post but that aside, I had the older plans before the KR-2S. They were for the KR-2 that I have and are basicly the same as the newest plans that are available now (which I recently purchased just because I had money to burn and Mrs. Rand needs the money) only there just printed out better. I believe that all they did was add another plan sheet for the stretched model modifications and also added a firewall templete sheet. I was recently going to drop the hammer and order a set of plans, only to discover that the NV Aero website appears to be defunct. Going to the website returns a message saying that the site is "down for maintenence" and that the webstore is closed. Does anybody know what's going on here? About three weeks later, I inquired about NVAero in a way that rubbed some people the wrong way, including the former NVAero proprietor. I think there are some forces in motion that are interested in taking over the business, I would recommend to wait and see what happens with that and the KR world. Or you could always buy someone else's project and hope for the best. As for me, I asked for and was hoping for a refund, I'm not sure if I will get plans or a refund or anything at this point, and that is not a good feeling. What I have learned is you must be patient with your KR2 expectations, plan ahead - if you want to order something be prepared to wait like a year for parts or plans. NVAero was providing them as a service to the community not something they made very much money on, Also from what I heard that Jeannette prefers to handle multiple orders at one time since there are large scale plans and the build book to be copied. If someone has a way to email Jeanette Rand that most likely is going to be the best way to get plans without purchasing someone elses project. It seems to me that RR would be better off to let someone handle their business for them, Maybe on a percentage basis. This makes several times I have heard of people not being able to get them to respond. I don't know how anyone would go about getting parts from them if you can't communicate with them. I've been thinking of ordering a cowl from them, But I don't know about that now, I'll probably order from someone else. Shipping: $15 US, $20 Canada/Mexico, $60 overseas". So if you send them a money order or some other form of payment for $300, they'll send you some plans, I'll bet. I don't know exactly how you make somebody care enough about their business to actually TRY to run the business, but if I did, I'd fax it to them! I had another paragraph on my last post but deleted it before I sent it, but the gist of it was "not how you'd want to run a business if you wanted to stay in business". They don't return my phone calls or faxes either, but I was lucky enough to receive the new price list, sent to me because I update their web page for them... Rand-Robinson seems to be Janette, and sometimes her daughter-in-law. They operate out of a house in Huntington Beach. I am able to pick up my materials by car, but contact is not always easy. They are not closed, but frequently are out with family activities. When these are gone, that's it - and they are being sold under the Right of Frst Resale and are not copies made by me. This happens all the time. There are bootleg plans being sold of about anything you could imagine on ebay. Plans for things other than airplanes too. I have bought a few plans on CD from ebay auctions with no intent to build the plane at all. I just want to see how another designer has done something. Most drawings on CD are old out of date plans and I wouldn't think anyone would build these designs today. I may be wrong, but I think the plans we are talking about here are the KR2, not the KR2S. As I have said before, surely no one would start from scratch and build a KR2 as it was designed in the early 70s. The KR2S with new airfoils isn't really a KR2. It is a different, much better bird with simularities as I see it. I rarely chime in so since I am now I want to THANK those who posted photos of the KR meet in IL. It looked like a very good meet with great weather and even better airplanes! I don't condone the theft of Janet's IP. but It is up to RR to get their finger out and stick genuine sets of plans on CD and make them available via ebay or any other means. Mark Langford has probably helped sell hundred's of sets of plans - far, far more than RR have sold ! Perhaps it's up to one of you boys with the correct background to help her out by offering to scan plans etc. I really don't think that snarling at someone who makes a few bucks out of spotting a market will actually sell a single set of genuine plans. If RR were to get together with Mark, and put a set of plans + all the good construction stuff on a CD it could be sold for $10 and would sell in the tens of thousands. Pete

I do not have a computer in you workshop, or would I walk inside to read the plans off you computer, or just print each section out as you go, Or print the complete manual off the CD?? The problem is that RR have been tardy in getting into computers internet etc. How many genuine sets of plans get sold a year ? low hundreds I would guess - perhaps $40k a year. Genuine $10 CD called "Build Your Dream Plane" with glossy pics of girlies drooling over the Tom Cruise look-alike pilot would sell thousands. Remember it's bloody difficult to print large scale plans, so Janet would still get reqs for sets of paper plans, and get to sell all the fancy bits that are ( or should be ) available from her web site. I called Janet today around 4pm CDT and she answered on the third ring. She remembered me, she remembered the man who started my project. She was able to answer my question that I asked the net last week on spacers that none of you guys could or did answer. She told me how to find out the things she couldn't answer. I was talking to Mrs. KR...! We had a pleasent conversation about her trip to the Gathering and the Gathering. She talked to me like a friend and I have only met and talked to her one time and that was over a year ago when she gave my wife and I a ride to the airport. Anyone that trys to take anything from this lady shouldn't try it within my reach. She I think this supports my point, the very fact that she remembers you sort of indicates that as a business, it's too personal, and Janet could make more money by better exploiting the KR2 brand. This is so often the case with inventions - people get anal about giving away a percentage of the revenue, so they try to do everything themselves with the result that they do lots of things badly. I can understand that Janet would feel terrible to lose control of something which must be the love of her life - unfortunately businesses do not run well on sentiment. Howdy, If anyone has attempted to order anything the past several months and didn’t get a response, I just had about 60 orders dumped into my system. Since it has been so long on some I am cancelling them out. Apparently hackers had been into my store and so the commerce site locked it up. I never go there unless I get an email so it had been awhile. I have 8 sets of plans and manuals back from the printer if anyone needs them. Hi Luis - Been reading the mail on the above topics. Glover has had a notice that his biz is for sale for some time now - I don't recall for sure what the asking price was, but it seems like I heard around $20K or so for the (rights ??) and inventory he has (no idea how big or small). He was selling plans and books, but I don't know if it was thru Jeanette or if he had/has originals to copy, and I don't know whether those aspects are included in his offering to sell it all. I pulled up his site and it says, /"//All KR related components, inventory, and tooling are for sale. Contact us for more details. // //NO tire kickers! We will continue to provide parts and support for the KR series until a new compatible owner is identified." /There is an 800 number shown in his ad, but it may be dead now. His email I have is: n92...@gmail.com / /We all know that getting parts, let alone contacting him is nigh impossible, therefore he is not a sure source for most who are looking. I did learn from him that he's into a different part of the aircraft biz now - avionics, I think it is, but that was a year ago or more. I think he is still operating out of the Chino airport in Calif. He's not a bad guy but has a short fuse and was disappointed in us cheapo homebuilders in the KR group for not buying much if anything from him. I thought his prices were too high overall. Baca worked for him for a while (forget his first name now... Marc??) but he left and is doing composite work elsewhere. He might be a point of contact with Glover if nothing else works. All the above is assuming you might want to maintain the pure KR stuff and design. If you have other thinking, then disregard any or all of the above. I hope you, or someone, can and will pick up the ball on this even though I am too old to be affected. I sorta thought Langford might do it someday, but suspect he likes to fly too much to tie himself down with an operation demanding time and effort. Whatever happens, stay happy and healthy. KRnetHeads, I spoke with a deceased Brit buddy's wife this morning, and she mentioned that she would like to find a good home for all of his KR stuff. She has the usual...a full set of KR2 plans and drawings, lots of collected data such as a HAPI VW construction manual, Bengelis books, construction photos, and likely some related aerodynamics materials, and other techniques kind of stuff in notebooks. She is willing to donate it to a good home, especially a KR builder. If nothing else, it could all go to a local LAA Strut to be on file as another project option. If interested (and to save this stuff from the landfill), please email me offline for details and contact info. You'd likely need to pick it up, as it's probably several boxes, and I would hate to ask her to go to the trouble of boxing it up and shipping it. It's located near Chester, southeast of Liverpool.
