[lace] Looking for a source of netting for embroidery

2020-03-18 Thread Penelope Piip

Hi,

I am searching for a source of netting (6 squares to the inch) for
embroidery.

I found www.filetlace.net but unfortunately the website has closed down
from 29th February until September.

Does anyone know where I might find some, or have a piece that I could
buy from them?

Otherwise I might have to make my own.

Thanks,

Penelope

Re: [lace] looking for native German proofreader

2019-08-30 Thread yhgr . jfp
Someone has been very helpful and the German introduction is now integrated
with the otherwise English website. The German (and Dutch) intro page can be
found in the sidebar of

https://d-bl.github.io/GroundForge/help/

Speaking of "otherwise English", that is also a second language and I might be
overconfident. It is a lot more than just an intro so I hardly dare to ask.
Whoever feels like fixing spelling and grammar of fractions is welcome. Same
for asking questions where ever I'm clear as mud.

Hello German spiders

I tried to write a German version of the introduction page for my freely
available lace ground generator. No installation required. The rest of the
site will remain English only.

As I needed a mix of google translate and some personal experience with the
language, I would very much appreciate if someone is willing to correct my
grammar and terminology. It is about 600 words. Starting with the line
“Experimentieren mit geklöppelte Gründe” on

I am hoping this works as it is my first post to Arachne.  Anyway, I

[lace] Looking for assistance on bobbin lace pattern

2017-01-26 Thread Valhalla Bee Farm
Good morning, all.

Seems like I contact this list only when I need something.
Sort of like the child only phoning home when they need money.

LOL : )

I do read all the posts. Not able to participate much since I am
a shop owner and very involved in my husband’s bee business.

Today, I am looking for help with a pattern from a book:
“75 Quick & Easy Bobbin Lace Patterns” by Veronica Sorenson.
This book is in the library belonging to the Lincoln Lacemakers and
possibly originally belonged to Cristina Banyard who has passed away.

The pattern is on page 48 - "Tommy Tortoise” designed by Karen Williams.
Would love any and all suggestions on making this pattern. Two of
the ladies I have taught some very basic torchon lace to would like
to make it. I’m not very good at starts. Really should take a class
at convention sometime on starts and finishes. But I see that there
isn’t one at this year’s convention. : (

We are looking at enlarging the pattern and using a heavier thread,
LizBeth sz 80 since I carry that in my shop and would prefer not to
use a thread as fine as the pattern recommends.

Correct me if I am wrong, but couldn’t the outlining be done in a
tape lace fashion - whole stitch, cloth stitch, whole stitch?
If left to my own knowledge, I would start with the longest tape going
along the outside edge of the turtle. Then doing each of the shorter
tapes joining in to the outside edge and/or each other.

We would probably use more simple fillings due to the limited
experience of the two beginners. Probably spiders, maybe rose ground

Any help I could get would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!

I'm sorry I don't know the answer to your question Ann-Marie, but I can see why
you are attracted to the star! Very modern, effective use of half stitch that

The pattern is beautiful! I haven't seen this exact one, but it reminds me
a lot to Brigitte Bellon's patterns. She has a few books on Christmas
motifs. I have two or three and this star is not in them. So...it can be
that this design is another book I do not know or it is a mixture of
designs made by a particular lacemaker.

I don't have my lace books with me now, so cannot check for sure. Perhaps
someone else knows...

[lace] Quote about needle lace - looking for a book

2015-03-10 Thread Meghann McCrory
Hello -
I have not posted before but am grateful for this resource as an artist who
studies lace and weaving.

In doing some research, at some point I came across a book about lace
making that was (I think) quite old - early 20th century or even late 19th
century - I believe it was written by a woman. The preface of the book was
an amazing defense of the importance of the needle. She writes that the
needle is better (or maybe stronger?) than the sword as it creates and does
not destroy and almost issues a charge to lay down arms in favor of the
weaving arts.

I have searched and searched for this quote and found similar statements
but am looking specifically for this preface, and the larger quote.

I know this is a long shot but thought that on the slim chance someone here
knows this book, it would be worth a try given how much knowledge and
experience among the members here.

Thank you!

Hi Marianne,

I went through my books, including Anne Collier's book, and did not see a
pattern for an Angel. However, in Collier's book, the costumes are period
costumes, and have capes and collars, etc, which might seem somewhat angelic if
you weren't sure what you were looking at.

Likewise, the other Needle Lace books and miniature lace books that I looked
through did not have an angel either. Perhaps you were working from a special
pattern that was sold individually by the designer? I have a pattern like this
(in bobbin lace) that is meant to be completed with a painted wooden head and
pipe-cleaner body.

Hmmm, makes me wonder where I got the pattern. It definitely looks like wings
with the design, though I had not yet outlined them, but I had started on the
skirt, and there are beads added near the hem.
But since it doesn't seem to be in any of the books, I am going to have to do
some more searching. I do have a few guild magazines and newsletters from when
I belonged to the lace guild in another town back in the early 90's, and if I
don't find it in there, I'll have to go through my many years of Anna magazine.

[lace] Looking through

2014-01-21 Thread Celtic Dream Weaver
a bunch of my older Lace magazines yesterday and being they are not recent
issues...it was like looking at a new issue of Lace . LOL. I had forgotten
alot of stuff that was in the older issues. Like I saw the picture of the
Binche Thistle again I was inquiring about last week...and I saw where fellow
lacer Diana Blackburn made Miss Channer's Lace Mat and was the winner of the
Val Gurney Trophy award. She did a small article how that that mat came to
fruitation. There were alot of great patterns and alot of great articles.

I also found it sad to read how many lacers have died and the stories of their
lives. There seems to be so many lacers have gone on to Lace Heaven. I hope
there are many younger lacers that have taken their place to carry on the
knowledge of how to make lace and how rewarding a finish piece of lace can
feel. I love the feel of touching my own finished lace pieces. So light and
delicate they are...and they make my eyes smile at the beauty.
   Take out
your old issue of your different lace magazines and see if you get lost like I
did yesterday in LacingLand.

[lace] Looking for a bobbin maker

2013-11-18 Thread Celtic Dream Weaver

I have a bobbin that I used to paint my bobbins that I sold years ago. I
would like a lot of this bobbin turned. I have one bobbin that is not painted
but it has a spiral groove that I do not want...but can be used as a
prototype. I am writing here to see if there are any bobbin makers on the list
here that could make these for me or could give me some ideas on how I could
get these bobbins made. I could also send a picture of the one bobbin.
   On
another note...I. am just about done painting turkey bobbins. I will probably
put a picture up on my blog eventually.

[lace] Looking for pattern information

2013-10-29 Thread Tess Parrish
I have a pricking of a pattern by Riet de Vries dated 1991. It is an imaginary
face done in what looks to me like Russian techniques, though I could be wrong
about that. I seem to have scribbled a few notes in French on the back of the
pricking, but otherwise I have no idea where I got it. It measures about
9/24cm square and is delightfully ornate. It is probably something from one
of the lace magazines I subscribed to at that time or later, but that's just a
guess. If anyone has an idea of where I might have gotten it I would really
appreciate the information, as I would like to have a few clues as to work it.
I can easily send a picture of it if contacted privately.

Thanks so much.

[lace] Looking for a pattern

2013-10-29 Thread Tess Parrish
Arachne is remarkable! Not only did I get several emails from helpful friends,
but one of them had actually made the lace and had won a prize with it! She
told me that it was published in La Dentelle, hence my notes in French, and
also in Lace Express.
Thanks to all who wrote me and all the rest who are on Arachne and always ready
to help all of us.

Now to get to work and make it at last. It has been sitting on my drawer since

Firstly give or sell them to other lacemakers in your area. Many lace
guilds or groups have a mechanism to recycling old magazines / books etc
to newer members be it a sign at a lace day saying 'free to a good home'
or selling them for a small cost and using the money for library books.

Secondly many OP shops will accept them and sell them on to interested
parties. my knitting group always goes there for extra knitting needles
and old knitting patterns.

Thirdly donate them to a local school or church group for their annual
fair, most have a secondhand or preloved table with books and other bits
and pieces. I once bought a huge selection of tatting patterns at a
charity fair (these were taken from magazines and on the surface did not
look good but the patterns were lovely).

Forthly offer to send out a list of what you have (ie we contact you
privately) and if we want them then we can pay you the postage for your
magazines.

Finally there is ebay

many are already old fashioned. There are so many new ideas around that
 these magazines are just passe.

have the candied bobbin and shuttle that I took home with me that night. This

Also I have never entered anything in our state fair but I have taken the

entering it in the competiton. Awaiting my tag right now so I can sent it it.
Feel kinda funny about it...not sure it will be good enough to win...but I am

Good luck with your bookmark, Sherry!

I've entered work for a show only once or twice, and it is a bit
daunting - but it's worth it to see your own work on show with
everyone else's. I told myself that my work was the one which would

I would really  love to be in contact with Frank's daughter. It might be a bit
harder for me on this side of the pond but maybe someone can contact her some
how. I wonder if she belongs to any guilds for instance. Does someone that
lives near Tickhill Doncaster South Yorkshire maybe they can give a call. I
would like to interview her I think. I would like to write something up and
also include in the write up what Frank's life was like. What did he do for a
living...how he got into making things out of silver...what other things he
has made and so on. I think it would be fun to do a write up on a man that
obviously was a giving person...like giving me a silver bobbin when he has
never met me before. Does his daughter tat? You know stuff. Who knows it could
end up being a great article for the Lace Magazine.  Or in the IOLI
Bullentin...I would like to follow this through and see where it takes meI
would appreciate any help from fellow Lacemakers.

[lace] Looking for Frank Newborn

2013-05-28 Thread Jane Partridge
Reading through what you had written, gave me the impression that this
was not a young man, and doing a Google search has brought up Frank W
Newborn, the son of a Tickhill farmer (there is a very interesting write
up about their lives on the farm on a family history site), Frank S
Newborn. His father eventually sold up on retirement, but there was a
forge on the farm which suggests he could have gained an interest in
metalwork, and most likely wouldn't have become a farmer himself. Some
of his photos are shown in an article about the school they went to. The
other page the search brings up is for an obituary in a Doncaster
(Yorkshire) newspaper, that he had died aged 90 (so born c1921) at the
end of April, 2011.

You can look up the hall mark on the shuttle, which will give you clues
as to where it might have been made (ie the nearest Assay Office), and
possibly the year (date letter). Doncaster isn't very far from
Sheffield, which is well known for its steel, silver-plate and to a
lesser extent, silver, industry, so it is quite possible that a lad
looking for work in that area would have gone into one of the factories.
I can vaguely remember, some years ago (?early 1990s), a company making
silver bobbins, but can't remember who they were. The idea was that they
would make someone a special present, rather than be working bobbins!
They either attended one of the Lacemakers fairs, or advertised in Lace
(the Guild's magazine) at the time. If I get chance I'll go through my
back issues and see if I can find anything.

RE: [lace] Looking for Frank Newborn

2013-05-28 Thread Maureen
Hi

I am not sure whether Sheffield was a silver hallmarking town/city, but
Birmingham certainly is. I think (and am happy to be corrected if I am
wrong) that items of silver where sent to certain towns to be hallmarked and
it would have been possible for Birmingham to have been used for the
Doncaster area. Birmingham is about 2 hours travel (by today standards)
from Doncaster. Mind you it is about 35 minutes travel (again by todays
standards) from Hull but I am not sure of Hull was a centre for hallmarking.

Yes you are right there was someone making silver bobbins, as well as brass
and possibly gold as well, who used to attend the Christmas Fair at
Birmingham but I haven't seen him about for a few years. It could have been
as long ago as 10 years even. He also used to make gold and silver bobbin
necklaces and earrings. I know that I was tempted but either didn't have
the money at the time or maybe had already spent up. Anyway I don't have
any. He possibly advertised in the Lace Guild mag but I can't remember
that.

[lace] Looking for Frank W. Newborn

2013-05-28 Thread Celtic Dream Weaver
Well...I have just about tore my house apart. I did have an email from him
back in 2002. Frank had been to my website and was looking at the shuttle I
had on my website and was surprise to see the silver shuttle he made back in
the day. He was so surprised that he send me an email wanting to know how I
got it here in New York since he didn't make very many and he made them for
special people.  I had told him that there was someone who still had family in
England and would go there to purchase items and bring them back to the states
and put them in an antique shop we no longer have. This person knew that I
tatted and was looking for shuttle and bobbins since I also do that. One time
she had this shuttle that Frank had made. On the shuttle has his
markings...FWN and also the assey marks. He told me in the email that he
wanted to gift me one of his silver bobbins which he did send to me along with
information as to what the assey marks stood for on the
 shuttle and bobbin.
The assay mark is the Tudor Rose..standing for
Sheffield, Lion for silver and...a T standing for 1993. The only reason why
I know this is because in the letter he sent to me along with the bobbin he
explained what the markings mean. My letter was dated 2002.
   You are right
Jane and thank you for all of your information you have sent to me his address
was Tickhill Donchaster, South Yorkshire. It is too bad he has passed on. I
would have loved to be able to write to him again. I will cherish the letter
he wrote to me and I am grateful to have the silver shuttle and the bobbin he
made and gave to me. It sure is funny how small the world is. I will also say
that I know in the Shuttle  book done by Pam Palmer there is a picture of my
shuttle and also there is a small tatting book that shows my shutttle as well
as a picture of a silver shuttle he made for his daughter. The shuttle he made
for his daughter is beautiful. The shuttle is opened worked in a tatted motif
design. I would appreciate any information you can find on him. Please send to
me whatever information you can find on Frank. It would be nice to see if I
can some how connect with his daughter whom he make the one intricate shuttle
for. That
would be the icing on the cake to be able to find out more information on
him.
Now back to tearing my house apart...As I mentioned ...he sent me an
email back them. I know my computer ( Hal who was named after the computer in
2001 movie) died. But I have since found a picture I took of the printed email
that I must have printed and know there is no way I would have thrown it
out...It camed to my Yahoo mail and I should have realized that since he used
the email address that is located on my home website page. ...so I must have
deleted it somehow...but the paper email is here...I just know it...I wouldn't
have thrown it away...I do have a picture of the email...but is is a bit
blurred. I can read it...but I wanted the printed email to put with my other
information he sent to me. As I explained before I was going to take it all to
my next guild meetin to tell the story and show my shuttle and bobbin and mine
and Frank's correspondence. I am like a dog looking for a bone though...and I
am going to keep looking for it.
Thank you to all who have responded to my
enqiry into Frank W. Newborn. Much appreciated.

Hello all,
I have just moved back to the UK (Milton Keynes area, Bucks) after having spent
26 years in the US and am trying to find lacemakers in my area so I can get back

I have joined the Aragon Lacemakers (Bedford), but would love to meet others.
Please email me privately if you, or someone you know, is interested.
Many thanks,

[lace] Looking for bobbin lace teacher in Central London SW7

2011-10-09 Thread Susan Khiar
Hello,

I am (was) an advanced beginner, who put down my bobbins 8 years ago, when my
two children were born. I'd like to pick up where I left off. I moved to
London last year with my husband and children, but haven't been able to connect
with anyone in London.

Does anyone know of a lace teacher, guild, or group that I could join? While I
am in SW7/South Kensington (a stone's throw from the VA), I'd gladly travel a
little to get back to throwing my bobbins again.

Many thanks for your help and advice.

Kind regards,

Susan Khiar

Hello Ann-Marie
I have an issue of Kant with a pattern similar to the one you are
looking for, shown on the cover of Kant, June 2010, No. 2. It is an
edging for a round mat, with the tulip motifs, designed by Anne-Marie
Verbeke-Billiet, 2008.
They also have it illustrated as a fan.
Does this help?

[lace] Looking for bead photographs

2010-12-15 Thread Brian Lemin
You know that my wife and a certain Arachne member are waving a big stick at
me to get my Bobbin Dictionary done. Well, with the data base of pictures
that I have, I never dreamt that I would need to ask friends for such a
large amount of help in supplying me with photographs. But here I am in
begging mode again and I am thinking not for the last time.

Could it be that one of you folk have an interest in beads (Ideally
antique beads, that is not a requirement as those beads have not changed
over the years.) I got my list of bead entries from Christine Springetts
book on Spangles and Superstitions. I think that what I am asking for is a
coloured picture of each of the beads that she mentions!!! I know I am
cheeky, but this one is a bit of a doozy!

Is there anyone that this request might actually be of interest to them and
they would enjoy doing it?

I do not want it to be a chore for anyone who volunteers. I know myself
that there are some things that I love doing and other things that are hard
going.

They could be part of a spangle or an individual bead. Photos would need to
be fairly close up but not super macro. If you have a sharp scanner,
...that does the job quite well... usually Scan at about 150 pixels per
inch

What do you think? Could it be you? Thank you at least for thinking about
it. :)

Drop me a note off list and if I am inundated (!) with volunteers we can
split the book up or complete it in some way between volunteers.

I just thought of something that I could do in return for a person doing
this. I will replace all the pictures in the Superstitions book with
their coloured pictures and send her/him either a hard copy or an electronic
copy of it. (just the volunteer or I could be in trouble!)

No particular time frame but say within 4 to 6 weeks? Does that sound
reasonable?

Thanks... now back to begging letters to my very long suffering friendly
bobbin collectors.

[lace] Looking for an image (again!!!!) Rare this time.

2010-12-11 Thread Brian Lemin
One of the Arachne members has goaded me into finishing off my Dictionary of
Antique English Lace Bobbins. I have worked on it for years now and then do
nothing.

I have worked out a schedule to spend an hour a day editing it, mostly
updating copyrighted images with my own permission granted images. I am
stuck for a picture of one type of bobbin. I have exhausted my collector
friends so now I am asking you for help.

The entry is as follows:

Birdcage bobbin.
An East Midland's bobbin with long openings, or windows in the sides through
which the contents of the windows can be seen. These windows were usually
pierced after the bobbin is turned . Fine brass wire is wound spiral fashion
round the shank to cover the openings, each strand of wire is slightly spaced
from the next so that the contents within the windows on the shank can be seen
through the cage wire but not fall out. The contents can be seeds, beads,
or other objects. There may be single or multiple cages in the shank.

Basically it is a mother and babe bobbin (perhaps balls inside the piercings)
and the babe or balls are actually kept in by wire wrapped around the arches
and spaces.

It could be a Birdcage in the middle of the shank or sort of the full length
of the shank.

The 16 babe bobbin that was a topic of ours a week or so ago is the same
type as I am describing, but it is not an antique bobbin unfortunately

My current illustration is from Luton Museum and I do not have their
permission to use it commercially.

So, do you or any of your friends have a bobbin that has the babes or balls
kept in the cage by means of wire being wrapped around the shank.
please? ...and.. are you or they, willing let me have a picture of it use in
the dictionary? It would be ok even if it is a metal bobbin (i.e. brass)
These often had the wire cage. I suspect the the metal bobbins used it as
they could not squeeze in the babes on a metal bobbin as easy as they could in
wood or bone, and so the gaps had to be larger, and thus the possibility of
the babes falling out.

Should be ok?

So, yesterday afternoon, Devon sent a (private) message:

I was having one of my long to-do's with Lyn Baily of Lancaster, PA, on the
subject of lace in early America, which is, like early America, a pretty
unexplored region. [...] Lyn continued to surf the internet and came up with
this intriguing hit. There is a person, employed by Arrogant Frenchman
Productions http://www.arrogantfrenchman.com/ who is going to impersonate an
exiled French lace merchant, who has fled the French Revolution and is going
to try to help out people in the colonies by employing them in lacemaking and
selling to the gentlefolk. But he has yet to make the latter's acquaintance.
This is to happen at Colonial Williamsburg on Oct. 2 and 3, 9-5. I feel
certain that there is the germ of an article for the Bulletin in this. I just
don't know how to capitalize on it. I don't think I can go to Wiliamsburg. I
don't know if he would want to write an article. Any thoughts?

 http://www.pinetreebarn.com/williamsburgfestival/distinguishedguests.html#lacemaker
describes the character that is being assumed for this day.

 http://www.flickr.com/photos/arrogantfrenchman/sets/72157603580376569/
actually has pictures of him making bobbin lace and strips of bobbin lace.

Williamsburg is too far for me to make a one day trip and still observe an
exhibit closely enough to report on, so I passed it on to Our Woman in
Williamsburg, Su Carter (BTW, all the people mentioned here -- Devon, Lyn, and
Su -- are Arachneans; isn't it nice?). Who promptly replied:

 Not here!!! It's in Ohio:

 Pine Tree Barn
 4374 Shreve Road
 Wooster, Ohio 44691

Sat Oct. 2 Sun., Oct 3
Colonial Williamsburg Festival - Colonial militia living history encampment,
the finest in Ohio artists and crafts, music, “proper” food, and
presentations on Decorating Williamsburg Style, including floral
demonstrations. All licensed Williamsburg products 10% off. Handcrafted 18th
 c. furniture on sale.[...]

Sorry, can we find someone in Wooster, Ohio -- I'd love to hear a good report
 . . .

I'm planning to retire as the BL Editor of the Bulletin as soon as possible,
but I too would like to see a report of the not-so-arrogant-anymore Frenchman
pushing lacemaking into America (if no longer The Colonies g), so I took
myself off to the IOLI Directory. There is an IOLI member in Wooster listed,
but I don't know her. And my grasp of Ohio's geography is too weak to determine
whether Our Woman in Ohio (Ruth Rocker) is within a reasonable driving
distance of the event...

Ruth? Or anyone else in Ohio? Any chance someone could go, take some photos and
write a report for the Bulletin?

Hello Lorri,

The book you mention is 101 Torchon Patterns, by Robin Lewis-Wild. I
cannot give you more details, because my book is the Spanish translation of
the original. So, the publisher is not the same as the English book.

Best regards..

I could have sworn that I owned this book, but now I can't seem to find it in
my bookshelf. I must have borrowed it from the guild library. In any case I
have found it on Holly Van Sciver's web site. The link below will take you
there but you will have to scroll down about 11 or 12 rows to find it. It is
also on Amazon but it is wildy expensive.

[lace] Looking for a book title/author

2010-06-11 Thread Lorri Ferguson
I have been given a photo copy of some pages of a beginning Torchon book. The
Chapter titles seem to be:
1. Color Key, 2. Color Key Samples, 3. Edgings, 4. Insertions, 5.
Corners, 6. Book Marks, 7. Medallions

The book has at least 127 pages, and is about 8.5 x 11 inches (the photo
copied pages fill this size anyway).

I would really like to know the title and author of this book.

Hoping a gentle spider somewhere is familiar with it and can enlighten me,
Lorri

[lace] Looking for tatted alphabet

2010-06-07 Thread Patsy A. Goodman

Hi Folks,

I'm looking for an elegant/fancy alphabet to tat. Something that can be
appliquéd on
a t-shirt or blouse for a monogram. Possibly found on the internet and
Free.
I have found one in Rebecca Jones book of Tatting but it is too plain for
what I'm
looking for. Also one in Julia E. Sanders book of Tatting Patterns, again
too plain.

Can any of you point me in the right direction?

I am looking for a sailboat pattern or maybe a light house pattern. Nothing
too involved. Fairly simple. I am wanting to make something for my dad for

complete. He is into sailboats and nautical stuff. If you know of a book
or picture of a sailboat, let me know. If there isn't such a pattern, I may
have to design my own. ;)

I think you *should* design your own. You did it with the gecko, you can do
it with a lighthouse shape or sailboat. Go for it!

Hi Mark

One of Eeva-Lisa Khortelahti's books has a pattern like that.

It's the first of her books that I took frpm the shelf!
Nyplatkaamme - Let's Make Bobbin Lace.
Three BL pics of boats with sails; torchon but with differences but her
patterns are so well drawn that all the instructions are there and you learn a
lot from working one of them.

Nothing too involved.

If you want it not too involved, a sailboat would be easy. A plait for the
mast, curve-edged triangle(s) in half stitch for the sail(s), cloth stitch for
the hull. You can have one or more stripes of color along the hull and if you
work back-to-front (aft-to-fore?) you can end the hull with a braid for the bow.

If you want to get fancier and are mounting it on fabric, you can add a few
swirls of blue around and under the hull.

Re: [lace] Looking for lace group/teacher near East Chester, NY

2009-09-01 Thread Regina Haring
The Metro Chapter of IOLI is the closest group to Eastchester in
Westchester County, New York, and we would be happy to welcome your friend.
Our meetings and classes are held in Bergen County, NJ, where Gunvor
Jorgensen lived and taught for many years.

Meetings are usually in a home in the Westwood area of Bergen, and classes
are offered in Ridgewood. Apparently this is about a 45 minute trip from
Eastchester, and I'm not sure whether (a) going south to the George
Washington Bridge and then northwest to Westwood or Ridgewood, or (b) going
north in Westchester to the Tappan Zee Bridge and then south to the meeting
and class places - would be an easier or shorter trip. Actually these
locations in Bergen County are roughly due west of Eastchester, and if we
could only devise another way to cross the Hudson River, the trip would be
much shorter - as it is it depends on the hour and the traffic.

Our Lace Days in Westwood are November 7 and 8 this year, with vendors,
demos and an exhibit on Saturday and classes on Sunday. Perhaps your friend
could visit us at that time - we'd love to meet her.

Someone recently commented about the fact that conventions were never held
in this area, but actually the 50th anniversary convention of IOLI was held
at the Hilton Hotel in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ in 2003, and the hosts were the
Metro Chapter, Lost Art Lacers of Sussex, NJ and the Cranberry Lacers of NJ.

I am aware that there are some gals who gather to make lace in NYC with a
teacher, and I believe that they use the Spanish vertical lace pillow - they
are not connected with IOLI.

[lace] Looking for a tatter

2009-08-22 Thread Jane Nelson

Good evening everyone -
My husband and I, one daughter and two grandchildren recently drove
from Lincoln, NE
to the Iowa State Fair and the Illinois State Fair. The trip was
mainly for the purpose of
judging the honey division at those respective fairs. But with some
family along, we made

it also a vacation. What a great time we had.

At the Illinois State Fair I reacquainted with a lady I had met last
year who watched me tat.
She said she wished she could learn tatting. So many people say that
but you never know
who is really serious about it. So this year when she arrived with
her honey and beeswax
entries she remembered that I did tatting and once again said how
much she would like to
learn. So - it dawned on me that surely someone on these groups that
I am involved with
would be in her area and could teach her tatting. In Illinois, she
is in the Rochester/Springfield
area. If there is anyone who would be interested in contacting her,
please let me know and

I will give her name and email address.

Thanks in advance.

Jane Nelson
Lincoln, NE USA
Now getting ready for the Nebraska State Fair - we have a booth there.
Then we will travel to the Kansas State Fair to judge their honey
division.

[lace] looking for lacemakers in Kent

2008-04-23 Thread beth
Hi all

If anyone out there is from the Kent area of England, do you know if there
are any lace groups or classes meeting in the Borough Green / Sevenoaks area?

One of the older members of our class up here in Cheshire is moving to Borough
Green to be near her daughter in Sevenoaks, and I know she'll want to find
other lacemakers to get to know once she settles in. She doesn't have
internet access herself, so if anyone can let me have contact details for a
group(s) in that area I'd love to be able to pass them on to her.

Marion still drives, so can travel a bit to find like-minded souls if there's
no-one very close to Borough Green.

Regards

Beth

In a rather damp, rainy Cheshire, NW England (but we had beautiful sunshine
all day yesterday).
