Re: [lace-chat] Has anyone bought a good dishwasher lately
Hi All, I haven't gotten to read all the mail about dishwashers but I asked DH's opinion last night. He's a Master Plumber (licensed, not me exaggerating ). He said he has heard Bosch is the best these days. I see a few other people have mentioned Bosch. They make many of his best tools. And he said there are only a few companies that make dishwashsers and they're sold under different names. He would "expect" to get 20 years out of one. We just replaced our refridgerator and found it was in the house when we bought the house. Only lasted 36 years! Needless to say the electric bill has gone down dramatically. Re: [lace-chat] Has anyone bought a good dishwasher lately
We replaced our dishwasher a couple of years ago as well, and after researching ratings purchased a Kenmore which is actually a Bosch. It has performed well even on the 'quick wash' setting and the dishes and especially glassware are spotless (partly because it reminds you when it is low on Jet-Dry or similar agent which prevents water spots). It does not have a heat element and dries the dishes using the residual heat generated from the hot water used in cleaning. That took a little gettng used to, but we appreciate that it no doubt lowers energy use and thus operating cost as well. The dishwasher it replaced was an Amana, which was over 20 years old (it was here when we bought the house). The only thing wrong with the Amana was that the door spring broke and the door would fall open unless locked shut. We decided that considering its age, we would replace it rather than trying to get it repaired...however, I expect it might have continued to work for some time. We, too, run it only once or twice a week, so it does not get heavy use, and we rinse everything before putting it in the dishwasher. Someone mentioned Kitchen-Aid...we bought a Kitchen-Aid fridge when we moved in which is now almost 21 years old and (knock wood) it has performed perfectly so I would expect any Kitchen-Aid product to live up to its reputation too. As Devon said, things change so I would follow current recommendations of Consumers Reports and online ratings such as those found on ePinions, etc. Vicki in autumny Marylandwhere a red fox was curled up asleep in our backyard this morning in a decidedly 'unrural' area...a tap on the window jolted it awake and it ran off, hopefully assuring us that it was not rabid...amazing how many wild things there are in very urban areas Alice in Oregon wrote: My old dishwasher was a Sears (Kenmore) model so we replaced it with another Sears. Re: [lace-chat] Has anyone bought a good dishwasher lately
I will need to shop for a dishwasher soon. I'm having one built in and cannot use my current portable because it's not standard size. We bought a dishwasher about 1970 and used it about 30 years when it gave out. It was repaired once in that time. Much later I was told that dealers expected that model to last about 8 years. I guess that it lasted longer for us because I run it once a week rather than every day. Because of limited space in my kitchen, I replaced it with an 18 inch wide model which held enough dishes for the two of us yet let me access a cupboard without moving the dishwasher. The new built in dishwasher needs to be standard size so it can be easily replaced when needed in the future. Your comments on different kinds is of interest to me. My old dishwasher was a Sears (Kenmore) model so we replaced it with another Sears. That's the only brand I've used. However, I know that Sears contracts its appliances from other brands so they could actually be GE or something else. Alice in Oregon ... where 2/3 of my new driveway was poured yesterday and looks really nice. The front section will be next week, weather permitting but rain is forecast for the next five days. Hopefully, it will be light showers so work can continue. I look forward to the dirt piles being gone -- they did promise to clean up the whole mess. It's a very expensive Christmas present for DH but he will love it. - Original Message - > We had to replace a 10 - 15 year old dishwasher three or four years ago, > and at the advice of a friend, bought a Kitchen-Aid, To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace-chat y...@address.here. Perhaps I should try labels on the cupboards and drawers? [snip] Agnes Boddington - Elloughton UK Where did you find it for sale? Maybe there is a more advanced model available now! Mine has the same fault - I wonder if there's a 'patch' you can instal to improve the program? Our mechanical dishwasher is about five years old. We bought it when our old one finally became unrepairable: we'd had it for at least twenty-five years, and - at that - had bought it second-hand. As it had been so reliable, we bought our new one from the same manufacturer, Bosch. Unfortunately I can't tell you the model name, because it doesn't say anything but Bosch on the machine, and I've no idea what's happened to the handbook; but we selected it as being the most 'green' machine we could find, low energy use, low water requirement, all that stuff. It does a perfect wash of a full load in about twenty minutes and is very quiet. In the last few years we've had to replace a number of domestic items, mostly bought secondhand when we were just married. We've found that German-made household goods are the best value for money. I notice that we happen to have bought - after talking to friends and researching consumer reports - a Miele washer-dryer and vacuum cleaner, and a Krupps kettle, all of which are excellent. US-made goods don't seem to appear much in our English shops, so I suspect they are not very popular with the customers, (they have a poor reputation here); or maybe it's just something to do with having a different electrical supply, or something like that. Good luck with your search, Linda Walton, (on an unseasonably warm, damp morning in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, U.K.). Re: [lace-chat] Has anyone bought a good dishwasher lately
We had to replace a 10 - 15 year old dishwasher three or four years ago, and at the advice of a friend, bought a Kitchen-Aid, which was also highly rated by Consumer Reports. It claimed to be energy-star, and to be ultra-quiet. It actually cleans dishes better than any dishwasher I've ever used. However, I can't really trust the energy-star rating, since this thing seems to run for over an hour... maybe even closer to two! And, the longer we've owned it, the more we hear the noise. Evidently, the insulation is degrading. Still, we have not had (knock on wood!) any mechanical failures with it, and are pleased... especially with how spotless the dishes are. (And I now use those "all in one" capsules made by Cascade).
