Bloody abject that was.

Never ahead in a game we had to win.

Play offs on our worst form of the season. I suppose that has to break at some
point. Doesn’t it?

That aged well - what a performance against a team worth however many hundreds
of millions.

Only possible weak link was Rasmus.

Adams, Aaronson, Rodrigo & Harrison murdered their defence.

While our back 5 kept Sterling, Mount and all at arms length.

Brilliant day.

Re: [LU] Palace

2021-12-01 Thread Nick Allen

Agree Dave. Our defence stood up against a strong, fast & awkward forward line
really well. Forshaw looks like he’s never been away. James had his best game
and with Raph on the pitch there’s always a chance of a goal - some balls to
take that penalty and like that.

Someone else said “91 tense, nerve wracking minutes, followed by 4 of the best.”

One thing is that the appeals for VAR adds a whole extra level of appeal and
wait... before the taker even steps up to kick the ball.

Re: [LU] Today

2020-01-11 Thread Nick Allen
Today was bad. Caught by a sucker punch. But too many players were flat, second
to a lot of challenges, lazy hospital balls, sloppy marking. Yes Wednesday came
and chased and fought, but they weren’t good.

Yes, Kiko should not get beaten at the near post, that was bad: but so was
Harrison and Bamford’s inability to hit the target with good chances; so was
Ayling’s passing and Dallas’s non-presence in midfield.; as was Costa’s
complete invisibility; as was Douglas.

All in all a car crash today. Only White, Cooper and Phillips came out with any
credit...and Harrison’s first half. Kalvin is being overrun in midfield, they
need Forshaw, Roberts or Hernandez alongside because Klich who is at least a
specialist there and Dallas isn’t working.

That was absolutely mad, no idea where their goals came from. But don’t panic...

Only thing to add to that Dave was that the corner for their goal was

Agree with that. I think if we can keep Roberts fit (and just keep him) that he
will be the difference this year, some of his passing shows he is thinking way

Re: [LU] 1-0

2019-10-20 Thread Nick Allen
I thought swapping Bamford for Eddie showed a real problem yesterday; the team
isn’t set up to play how Eddie needs us to play with him as centre forward.
There was a huge gap between him and the others, the ball didn’t stick when we
got it moved up there hence it fell back on midfield and we were overrun (or as
much as we are ever overrun these days). Plus, his one major break he should
have had enough awareness to square the ball across the box where Alioski or
Harrison was unmarked, rather than shooting from a long way out and an
improbable angle. Eddie may work alongside Bamford, or when we are chucking
everything at the last 10 minutes, but if he is to be lone striker for
prolonged periods we need to change how the rest are set up.

Bamford for his part, played well enough, missed a decent chance, missed
another when offside (apparently) and laid a sweet one back into the path of
Costa who should have scored.

I think in the end Bielsa wants Bamford at the top, with Roberts in the number
10 behind him, linking midfield and Eddie as an impact sub.

Thought Costa was again ineffective yesterday, Clarke must be seriously tossing
it off in training...and Harrison was Harrison, good runs, good energy, naff
all end product. That said, he was sharp to nick the ball for the goal.

Dallas isn’t a midfielder and Alioski isn’t much more of a midfielder. Douglas
doesn’t seem to be much of anything. White was excellent, and Berardi was
steady.

Phillips or White was probably our MOTM, although Kiko did the things he needed
to do, without much fuss.

Still, second eh?

[LU] Norwich

2019-02-03 Thread Nick Allen
Norwich were excellent, had a plan, the players and commitment to carry it out
and the ability to improvise when needed...they did to us what I think we have
done to others this season.

Points:
- I watch from the Kop, we saw the ball down our end 3 times in the first half,
the two goals and a close call. The rest of the half was played around the
Norwich box.

- 2 goals were deflections, and the other an almighty mix up in
defence/midfield with us chucking away the chance to clear a couple of times

- what did happen when the keeper clattered Roberts going in for goal. A free
kick was given, so a foul was seen, how come it wasn’t at least a yellow card?

- there did seem to be a good call for a penalty when Pontus went down

- Having gone in 2 up, Norwich worked their bollocks off to close us down,
chase tackle and Harry everything, for the opening 15 minutes of the second
half. And the doubled up on Clarke every time he got near the ball

- Aylings inability to pass is becoming a real liability...we need to think
about a Shackleton Clarke right side.

- teams are happy to let Pontus and Cooper pass it between them, and rely on
the fact that their distribution is patchy, that is where Philips comes in, we
should probably move to a W formation with those three and two wing backs

- Bamford, 2 chances, 1 tipped onto the bar, 1 goal

- judging by Douglas’s second half, Alioski is a better bet there...

- yes a big crowd and a good noise at the start, but yelling xenophobic abuse
at our Spanish keeper after 25 minutes and then half the ground emptying on
their third goal shows we are still an attraction for part timers and arseholes

There’s work to do and a few tweaks to make but I think we still have a lot of
hope.

Re: [LU] Forest and January signings

2019-01-02 Thread Nick Allen
Presumably he also gets credit for the 10 or so clean sheets in the league...if
we’re judging a keeper and not the team, on this...that then gives us between
10-30 points he has achieved for us...by your measures! Puts him on a par with
Roofe and Pablo...

Good report Dave, despite the meds...

Vieira hit the post, Hernandez’s shot shortly after hit the keeper’s knee
before skidding across the goal and Alioski’s diving header hit the bar...we
came close, but not close enough. My mate thinks Hegginbottom should be
sacked...

Re: [LU] Fun whilst it lasted

2017-04-22 Thread Nick Allen
Whatever else happens, this will have been our most successful season and in
the main, the most enjoyable in what...13 or 14 years. That's something in
itself, but more importantly, something to build on.

4pts from the last 18 is a worry; that's not the sort of form you want going
into play-offs, it's the sort of form that will pretty much ensure you don't
get in the play offs.

MARCHING ON TOGETHER

[LU] Truly dreadful

2017-04-17 Thread Nick Allen
It was like one of those mass hypnosis things that leads to groups of people
committing suicide...every single one of of our outfield players forgot how to
play football today. Garbage.

Their goal: Pontus - he's a right laugh isn't he? - goes off on a beckenbaur
run, deep in their half and loses it, cos he's great at stopping and not much
else - the rest of the team are having a laugh watching Pontus charging off
upfield...and forget to defend, two passes, man through, bottom
corner...winning goal. Bunch of fucking ball-watching amateurs...get em in

Re: [LU] QPR

2017-03-12 Thread Nick Allen
The least eventful game of football I've seen in years. Bags of effort. Little
sparkle...and then there is Sacko...wow, how quickly has he gone backwards...he
barely seems in control of his own feet never mind anything else. Can someone
unplug him from the mains and feed him a nice herb tea.

[LU] Villa

2016-12-04 Thread Nick Allen
The first half wasn't good entertainment. It was attritional. Sometimes you've
got to grind through those things. I don't think Villa will be any more happy
with that half than we would be. Chances were scant...although Pontus should
have buried that header.

Second half was much better...is that because we wore them down in the
first...they did a lot of chasing and closing down. Glad for Roofe, lovely
headed finish, that was all about the run between defenders and a cracking ball
in from Doukara who had been somewhere between poor and anonymous for the
previous 70 minutes.

The second goal...what do you say about Sacko...mostly shit, quite fast
(although he never got away from his full back yesterday) then he runs through
like this, almost stumbles...should bury it, instead, squeezes it through the
keepers legs...it might just have got over the line if no one else had got to
it, but Wood had to make sure given a defender was closing in to clear. Fair
play to Wood.

Thought all the defence was solid, especially Ayling. Somebody - Monk - needs
to have a word with Pontus, never mind the fannying about on the edge of his
own box...that is bad enough, but centre halfs don't need to be picking up
stupid yellow cards and I think he's has three in recent weeks. He's in danger
of becoming a very naughty boy rather than a legend and he is a good defender
who has brought material change to the team.

Also thought Viera was good. He does have a few shaky moments in each game but
he is getting more and more stuck in and influencing things. Still not
convinced at all by Philips.

3 good points. hard earned. Up to fourth. There's no one on this list that
wouldn't have taken that for the first week of December, if we'd have been
offered it in August.

Re: [LU] Could be a fun pre season for our lot

2016-06-03 Thread Nick Allen
For me, the big thing about Monk as opposed to any other manager since we
signed Grayson, is that it a signing looking to the future; all Cellino's
previous appointments have been panicked (trying to halt a slide) or completely
bonkers. What we all need now, including MC is to give him time. I think there
is a statement of some intent in this appointment...he's young and learning.

So, in control for 40 minutes, great double save from a penalty by Silvestri,
good goal by Dallas heading home a far post cross by Bridcutt; Bridcutt was in
charge in the first half...then slack marking at a corner, free header and
they're back in the game.

After that we gave up, barely made a chance, they ran through our midfield with
speed and purpose, the back 4 were nowhere...total fucking shambles.
Disgraceful capitulation.

Re: [LU] team today

2016-02-07 Thread Nick Allen
The irony being that the team had a much better balance today, passed the ball
around and looked like the team more likely...but then Forest had one come back
off the bar and of course scored after we stopped playing waiting for a whistle
that never came. The talk at half time was a decent game being played at a good
tempo, with the ball being kept on the ground and into feet...just a shame
about the points!

Like the three of Dave, Bridcott and Cook in the middle, with Dallas chucking
some good crosses in. And for about 30 minutes it looked Doukara and Antenucci
would come up with the goods.

Only 12 goals at home all season, speaks volumes. With that track record you
leave your defence no room for cock-ups...it's a tough line to hold.

We know why Wootton has space going forward and today Taylor had loads, except
no one passed it to him.

Most annoying.

Funny, I sent this just after getting home at 6pm last night...looks like it
got lost in the ether...anyway, I obviously watched a different game from
everyone else, judging by the other reports/comments.

[LU] Dons

2016-01-02 Thread Nick Allen
So Preston had to score the winner for us, now MK had to score the equaliser.

Clueless, bereft of ideas, unable to pass...the number of hospital passes they
played to each other was appalling...poor Silvestri, what he is supposed to do
with some of the stuff sent back to him, on a day like today - overcast,
permanent drizzle, the ground soaking and yet the crowd boos him for hurried
sliced clearances, it beggars belief. And given all that, we had zero shots
that their keeper had to save. Criminal.

No one stamped their authority on this game - Bridcott and Silvestri probably
earned their wage and that's about it.

Yes, Wootton is always free out on the right, that's because the opposition
know he is not capable of hurting them.

Did we have a shot target? Does hitting the post count? Because Taylor's free
kick was the nearest we got.

Thankfully their centre half pulled a rabbit from nowhere. He had no real
pressure and no real reason to head it back towards goal, it was easier to head
it up field, but that's what he did and it dribbled into the bottom corner from
12 yards out. How grateful were we?

Dons had a fast forward line that made arses out of Cooper/ Bamba, repeatedly.
And we had nothing to come back at them with, lot's of intricate passing that
eventually had us turned around and head back towards our own goal. Dreadful
stuff.

Don't know what else to say about a game that I had been looking forward to
hoping for a good win.

Re: [LU] Derby

2015-12-30 Thread Nick Allen
For their first goal there was a large appeal that their winger controlled the
ball with his hand at the start of his run...but that doesn't excuse the
defending of either Wootton(?) and Bamba - a suicidal lunge that would have
conceded a penalty had he connected.

Our first...it was Byram that took the ball round the keeper, making one of
those cute feints to chip the ball back in so the charging keeper leaps in the
air doing a star jump, the player then pushes it underneath this jump and runs
round to collect it. His first cross was blocked and that came out to Dallas,
who dinked towards the back post, where the keeper, recovering his ground
flapped an arm over his head only succeeded in pushing it to Bamba's feet 6
yards out.

Wood finished well. For me it was the one thing he did all game...although he
did put a lot of effort in. If he did nothing each game but could be relied on
to score every game, then I'd buy that, but he can't and doesn't.

Silvestri made two or three cracking saves. All 3 of our main centre halves are
v similar...80 minutes of decent diligent defensive play, 5 minutes of being
lost, badly out of position and 5 minutes of cluelessly bad challenges. Hard to
know who to rely on...for me probably last night's pairing was the best.

The ref was reacting to Derby's histrionics - the one part of their game I
didn't admire, they were an otherwise tidy team, they look a good bet for
promotion - while not giving anything to Leeds for similar
challenges...although to be fair, this only seemed to be an issue for the
middle third of the match.

Our spirit was good last night and the crowd seemed to respond to that. All in
all pretty heartening stuff.

Re: [LU] FT 1 0

2015-12-20 Thread Nick Allen
Your report is right Dave, one of the most unsatisfying victories...

I think part of it is the attitude on display and for that you have to look to
the manager.

Every corner/free kick around our box that Preston got we had all 11 back there
in the box - even when they had 10 men. When we got a couple of corners late
on, they left 2 on the half way line...meaning we had to have 3 defenders back
there. I never think it's right not have at least 1 man up for the long punt
out of defence, but there's no excuse when they're a man down.

The other example being, when we did get corners in the second half, we played
them short and tried to shield the ball in the corner...

Both of which said that the manager and/or the players just wanted to hang on,
having no desire or belief that they could press on and score more.

[LU] Hmmm

2015-10-29 Thread Nick Allen
Hard to think of a worse performance. And against such a mediocre team.

With the possible exception of Berardi, who at least looked like he gave a
monkeys about the outcome...

Evans, has nothing to offer us. For once I'd be glad to wake up and hear he's
gone. Continuity be buggered...there's no nothing for anyone to hold on to.

We have some good players, good young players, the mood in the club must be
poisonous.

Mavericks and team sports don't really work unless they turn their
Maverick-ness outwards and keep everything in-house, in-house - take Clough or
Ferguson or Cantona...the attitude was fuck everyone else, but I'll die for my
team. Cellino has nothing to offer Leeds Utd, it's a vanity trip for him.

It's not a one way ticket to Division 3 yet, but if this stinking attitude and
stinking form doesn't get sorted by New Year, it will be.

Re: [LU] LU: Rosler sacked

2015-10-19 Thread Nick Allen
What a fiasco. If this horse was Eddie Grey it would have been shot by now.

A little perspective would have been nice; we lost on Saturday to a last gasp
goal against the top of the league after going down to 10 men in unlucky
circumstances.

Can't support Evans, the man is a disgrace. This is Leeds Utd not fucking
Crawley or Boston (no disrespect, but it is a question of having some pride in
the club he allegedly represents, Cellino I mean, and an understanding of the
different histories and standing in the game).

And no, I don't want us to go down to get rid of Cellino; I don't want us to
become a yo-yo club between the second and third tiers. That would kill us off
for good and all.

Somehow we need to stay up, keep the youngsters, get rid of Evans and
Cellino...it's not too much to ask is it? Oh and while I'm on the list of the
impossible, can we have the coffee and bovril cart back upstairs in the kop at
half time?

Re: [LU] Brighton

2015-10-18 Thread Nick Allen
Not going to rehash these reports as I think they pretty much cover
everything...my one comment on the play was that the first goal was lost when
Adeyemi either bottled or simply wasn't strong enough in a tackle that he
looked to be odds on to win, in the middle of the park...their player won that,
stepped forward and slid the ball to the winger...Wootton didn't have a clue
where this guy was. It's easy to blame Silvestri, and lots do around me, but
when two of your team mates in front of you don't do their job, then your job
suddenly becomes a whole lot more difficult.

Mowatt was rubbish yesterday (dead ball delivery excepted); Adeyemi too; Wood
is a plank (ha ha); Wootton has never been good enough; and as for Buckley,
fuck me...when you've got this lot doing that bad, but you have Byram, Murphy,
Antenucci on the bench and Taylor to come back from illness, it is possible to
change things for the better. presumably we will now have Bellusci back in
place of Cooper for a while...

So, not won at home since March, perhaps Cellino should restrict home numbers?

Zamora's first goal for Brighton for 4549 days...bastard!

Re: [LU] Brentford

2015-09-14 Thread Nick Allen
Agree with pretty much all of that...probably slightly less on the doom and
gloom side, the two things I'd add, would be that it was the bringing on of
both Murphy and Antenucci that made the difference...and yes Murphy was high
wide and handsome with two efforts, but he comes in a poor second to Sam
Byram's 3 "shots on goal" in about 20 minutes...which were abject and wasteful.

Re: [LU] Sheff Wed

2015-08-23 Thread Nick Allen
DOUR...the only word for it. Sheffield Wed came not to lose, and didn't. We
lacked the guile to break them down. The main point for me was the similarity
of Philips and Adeyemi in the middle just put us on the back foot too often.
Philips was caught with the ball time and again. The introduction of Mowatt and
Murphy changed that balance and brought us back into it. 2 good goals...you can
never legislate for moments like the Wednesday strike...sometimes they just go
in.

There's nothing seriously wrong, nothing that needs a major overhaul...just a
bit more time, some fine tuning and people like Cook avoiding stupid
dismissals/suspensions.

I'm really beginning to like the look of Breradi at full back.

Phillips and Adeyemi the midfield pairing and Antenucci partnered with Wood
up front. It is clear that Rosler is still searching for his best eleven both
in terms of personnel and formation. He also seems to believe his own
tiredness excuses (even though only Taylor and Dallas have started every game
and Dallas has been subbed in them all)Phillips who statistics claim ran 13.3
km on Wednesday (as compared with an average of 8-10km) started the game but
started badly - his first tackle was slow and behind the pace and the ref,
even though it was the first minute, gave him a yellow, something he never
recovered from and he spent most of the time behind the game, trying to get
to the pace but worried about another booking. This meant we had almost no
 creativ
ity in the middle of the park. I like the look of Adeyemi but he is a
destroyer - breaks up play and gives it to someone else. We really missed Cooks
energy and driving forward influence. They slowed the game down, niggling
fouls, time wasting, play acting from start to finish - they came for a point
and the officials went along with their game plan. Not much of note happened in
the first half until one bit of brilliance put them in front - their attacker
chipped it over Cooper and then fired in a speculative shot that somehow
dropped in - everyone in the ground was stunned, looked around for a bit then
we groaned and they celebrated. Boy how did they celebrate - the scorer pointed
to his number, to the skies, bowed down on the floor, hugged his mates and then
fell to the floor again. I have seen many players booked for 'over celebration'
who did less than that (perhaps it is not allowed to book a player for
celebrating in such a 'religious' manner) A decent goal but one ma
inly against the run of play - their only real shot all half. We did not
deserve anything from that half either - our main tactic a long crossfield ball
from Cooper to the head of Byram - it did not always work and even when it did
it came to nothing.
Second half was much of the same till the double sub (off went Phillips -
about time, and Byram - we wanted Dallas off) and on came Mowatt and Murphy
and we started to keep the ball better and look more dangerous. We were still
wondering where the equaliser would come when Bamba showed why he is captain.
He strode forward beating a number of players and then let Mowatt take it off
his toes and release Dallas. Dallas who had looked short of confidence till
then, nutmegged one player, beat the other and put in a good low cross that
Wood, reminiscent of Lee Chapman prodded home from a yard out. A great team
goal. After that we huffed and puffed trying to get the winner and Dallas did
try and pull off a few tricks but it was not to be.
So either an unbeaten start to the season or 4 without a win - take your
pick. Yes we could and should have 8 points on the board (burnley and
Bristol) but have to settle for 4.
Wood looks like a player and he will get 20+ goals if he gets any sort of
service and if he and Antenucci can become a real partnership, reading each
others game they will be a real handful. At the back we looked solid, they
had one flash of brilliance (luck?) and one other clear chance from a
breakaway but that apart we kept them quiet. A lack of creativity in midfield
cost us today but hopefully the return of Cook will help there.
We are a work in progress but given time and luck , things could be good this
 season
DavePS - not seen any of the game on TV so some of this may be wrong!

Re: [LU] Burnley (as seen live - not watched or seen any of it on TV so could be wrong at times)

2015-08-09 Thread Nick Allen
Pretty much everything you'd want from the opening game of the season; warm
sun, big crowd, good atmosphere, new players showing well, young players
showing that last year's promise wasn't a fluke and taking the lead with an
absolute peach of a goal with 5 minutes to go...just a shame about that
momentary lapse otherwise it would have been perfect.

Not going to rehash Dave's report but just add that we had several more chances
than he remembered: Berardi had two from the top edge of the box that whistled
just over - the first one better than the second; Bellusci hit a cannonball
from 30 yards that stung the keeper's hands; Adeyemi nipped in to connect with
a low cross to the front post and sent it fizzing over the bar; Wood put
through the middle to the edge of the penalty area, with the keeper advancing,
went for power when some finesse would have been the thing and sent it over the
bar...all half chances (well, Wood probably should have scored) that we've all
seen result in goals before.

I thought that Dallas's shot early on, was parried by the keeper onto the
bar...but it might just have been the angle I was looking from.

heartening to see the rapid pass and movement that the young players have
brought to the team still out thinking and moving good defenders and
midfielders - Adeyemi slotted right into this style of play, Berardi is
extremely comfortable with it...we have 8 or 9 first teamers who can play
proper football.

Only slight worries for me were Taylor at full back...not his best position,
but he won't get a look in any further forward with Dallas up there, so Charlie
had better graft to sort himself in that position. And Wood...looked pedestrian
to me. For some reason he suddenly picked up the work rate after about 75
minutes and looked a better proposition...but hell it's his first game for us,
plenty of time yet.

Christ, Silvestri even claimed a high ball. He also made one cracking reflex
save before half time.

Not sure I'd call it anything but 4-5-1 as a formation.

Filled with hope after that one.

Well I went to this game full of hope and optimism, looking forward to the
season to come and thinking it may just be a good one. I have come home (via
a pub or two) in exactly the same frame of mind.We had 26,000 Leeds fans
there today and (subject to money, holidays, other commitments) everyone of
them should be there next time too. Apart from the final result I cannot
think of anything else anyone could want from their team. A team made up of,
mainly, young lads, most with a connection to LUFC gave 100% in a full
blooded exciting, entertaining game. If you did not go home happy today then
I would ask 'what more do you want?
From first to last we got into them, hunting them down in packs, keeping and
passing the ball, running at them and never letting them settle. From 1 to 11
we showed a commitment to the cause coupled with a composure and ability and
comfort on the ball that we have not seen for years. Not one player treated
the ball as the proverbial hot potato that they just wanted rid of, instead
each of them wanted the ball and wanted to do something with it.
Were we perfect, no of course not. but the players did everything we , as
fans, could expect or want from our team. The line up was as expected with
Dallas getting the nod over Doukara and they came out in glorious sunshine to
a brilliant reception. The debutants knew from the first minute - this is
LEEDS, deal with it. We began like an express train, tackles flying in,
chasing down the ball and giving them no respite. Without getting carried
away and making false comparisons , this was like a Wilko team. Adeyemi Cook,
Mowatt were everywhere winning the ball and laying it off. We had so many
good moves it is hard to remember but the best was a great ball over the top
that Byram controlled brilliantly, and put in a cross straight to Wood. We
all thought he would head home but, (not for the only time) he went for the
fantastic and tried an overhead kick that did not quite work. On another
occasion the ball went over Wood and Dallas was there at the far post to
 shoot but it hit
the keeper. The first 20-25 minutes was breathless stuff and it was hard to
understand why it was still 0 0. We then ran out of steam a bit and let them
back in it but Silvestri was more than capable to deal with their only shot of
note. So the half time whistle came and the players went off to a standing
ovation - a well deserved one.Second half the same story - Mowatt fizzed one
just wide, a great cross from Berardi found Wood but was at an awkward height
and his first touch on his thigh made the chance go. We kept at it and on
60mins or so the tiring Dallas (good on his first appearance) made way for
Antenucci (or Antenucci, Antenuccis na na nana na na (think old Arthur

[LU] Fwd: Norwich

2015-04-14 Thread Nick Allen
C'mon Rich name one of the 11 who was better than Murphy last night...alright
maybe I'll give you Byram and possibly Taylor, but apart from them...

Just a couple of points on last night:

It was pretty much evens until they scored, and then we went into melt down.

Norwich was pretty much a Premiership team...albeit a poor one

The second goal...the ball went out of play in the build up, it should never
have stood.

Apart from Taylor's chance, we never looked like scoring.

Some bloke called Gnoyi or someat like that is playing He's shit.
Philips dropped after scoring on his home debut. Maybe some of us do know
 best?
 They've just missed a pen.
Beccho nowhere to be seen - great move that was for the lad.
 Luke Murphy is a toilet.

Any learned listers heading Charlton way on Saturday? Are list meets a

Wiggy and Dodgy Matt both sloped off to the West Indies to launch their pop
careers, so some usual suspects will be absent.

 Al E, you heading along?

 Cheers,

[LU] Mystery man

2015-04-05 Thread Nick Allen
Amusingly our paper doesn't list Morrison on the team sheet, instead there is
someone called Nirusib.

Re: [LU] Blackburn report

2015-04-05 Thread Nick Allen
Tend to agree with much Dave says.

Let's have the penalty incident right as it appeared to those of us in the
ground (not saying Dave's wrong). Our corner from the right, over by Murphy,
bit of head tennis, it's cleared up field, the game goes on, the ball goes into
touch and the referee runs back 40 yards to see what the linesman is waving his
flag about. We all thought it must be one of those corners that had bent out of
play before coming back in...hence requiring that we all go back for a dead
ball. Because there had been no visible casualties, no one on the ground, no
appeal from Blackburn players (and trust me they were after the ref for
everything), but no, he tells the ref something...which eventually gets Austin
sent-off. One of the weirdest sendings off I've ever seen.

From then on a balanced but dull game ran away from us, some suicidal defending
from Bellusci and later Cooper did for us. They got 3; hit the woodwork 3
times; and Silvestri made a couple of belting saves.

But what's this rumour that Antenucci is on a contract that eventually
penalises us if he scores too many goals...can that be right? With Leeds Utd
possibly. It is the only reason on gods green earth that Morrison was selected
ahead of him yesterday...and that allegedly Thompson got suspended for telling
somebody that him and Redfearn's pick the team and they want Antenucci in there
whatever the contracts say. None of this can be right can it...?

Very despondent after that second half yesterday and with the club in general.

Not really sure what to say about today. Before the game we were talking
about Thompson, Redfearn, Antenucci and Red Bull. We agreed that if Thompson
was sacked for 'not being effective' it was harsh to say the least. If it
means Redders leaving then my mates were happy enough with that. The
Antenucci thing, as I pointed out, was a typical contract thing - I recall
going on the ER tour run by John McLelland and he told about himself winning
6 man of the match awards in 7 games and getting dropped , it turned out that
the team he was at had to pay £20k to his old team if he played 10games and
since promotion was not on the cards they did not want to pay it. So given
where we are in the League it makes some sense not to play Antenucci. As for
Red Bull, my only concern is will they honour my 20yrST? Overall we were
happy with RB but it would depend on how much they want to change things -
Red Bull of Leeds and and a new kit, no thanks. Leeds United sponsored by
Red Bull - yes please. As for LLTP or whatever the latest fans group is called
, of the 6 of us, all dyed in the wool, long time season ticket holders, not
one of us said we would pay £10 let alone £100 to put a 'fan' on the board. We
were also a bit unsure as to the Chris and Kevin stuff and this when 2 of the
lads actually knew one of them and went to Lloyds for the 'memorial' session.
I really do not want to upset anyone and I refuse to go to Turkey because of
it all, but I think it is a part of our history that we should all be aware
of but should not be marked every yearSo on to the game - what a waste of
time, a totally forgettable first half followed by total capitulation in the
second. We were slightly the better team for 40mins but did not really do much
and never really caused them any problems but they did have one chance that
hit the woodwork. I know it is hard for Redfearn but what was the point of
todays line up? Why did Dawson Phillips not start ? We have 6 or so games
to go, games that are all pointless, so lets find out who is good enough ? Is
Dawson, who is the stand out player for the u21 Development squad , robust
and physical enough for this league ? Can Phillips cut it at this level and
why no Del Fabro or Montenegro ?We all knew after 5 minutes that this game
was a waste of time really and would tell us nothing. Even if by some fluke
Morison gets a goal, is there anyone who thinks he will go on a run and get 5
in the next 5 and start next season on fire?Whatever, the crowd had a good
silence for Kevin and Chris and got behind both Redfearn and Thompson without
slagging off Cellino or anyone else.We watched the game for 30 minutes with
nothing to excite or worry us. then came the defining moment. No-one round me
had a clue what had happened but suddenly the ref, with no one surrounding
him and no one on the floor etc was waving a red card around. Who was it
aimed at, what had they done ? No-one knew until after a few minutes Austin
went off down the tunnel. Was the ref right or wrong ? No idea and nor had
anyone near meWhatever, we saw out the last few minutes of the half, glad to
do so and thinking Redders had 20minutes to plan things and to, hopefully,
prove that stupid and false adage it is harder to play agianst 10 than 11
 true. But he didn't
