[LegacyUG] picture source/citation
When I add a picture to my family file, I'm not seeing a place to incude the source. Am I blind? As it is, I'm just adding the source in the description box, but that's not very satisfactory for several reasons. Of course, I could add an "event" and put the source there, but that's a nuisance. Surely there a designated spot that I'm overlooking -- I hope! [LegacyUG] digitized articles and books
(This is off-topic so you can email me directly if you prefer, but please do so at [EMAIL PROTECTED] instead of my usual email address as I get an incredible amount ofspam at my regular email address and weed out anybody not in my addressbook.) But what I'm wondering if there's anyway to find out whether a genealogical/historical, etc., book or article is digitized and online? I know some good websites that have a lot of that kind of thing, but I don't know a way of searching to find out whether a particular book/article is available ANYwhere on the Internet? I don't know whether I'm explaining what I want very clearly or not! But thanks for any help! Re: [LegacyUG] How to add individual's info from previous file-copying an "event"
I have decided just to copy the information from an earlier version of the file. I had a long research note and had no trouble copying that. Then I tried copying an "event" and therefore clicked the edit button for the event, used the clipboard icon to copy it, but when I went to the other file I was told the clipboard was empty. Why is that? Or rather, is there a way to copy an event from one FILE to another (just as I can copy it from one individual to another)? I don't know what you mean by "restore the file back to the way it was." How do I do that? - Original Message - From: R G Strong Genealogy To: LegacyUserGroup@legacyfamilytree.com Sent: Wednesday, March 14, 2007 2:51 AM Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] How to add individual's info from previous file Patricia, I believe what you had was an incident where you had Ann married to Dennis twice. The first marriage had 11 children and the 2nd had 1 child. To fix this you need to restore your file back to the way it was and then you need to do the following: First verify that the single child of the 2nd marriage, was not a duplicate of one of the children from the first marriage. If the child is a duplicate then first do an unlink from parents, which will remove the child from the family. Next go to the person that the child is a duplicate of and do a manual merge of the two, if he is not a duplicate and he is part of the family then just link him to the first marriage. Now all you have to do is go to the second marriage and then unlink the marriage and that should fix the problem. Re: [LegacyUG] Bibliography problems
I am suddenly having bibliography problems. A few days ago I was editing some of the bibliographic entries in my maternal database. Today when I opened Legacy, I noticed that only a few of the entries appear in the Master Source List. I pulled up other files, on which I had NOT done any recent work on the bibliography (I have two main databases, maternal and paternal, and there was the same problem with earlier maternal files, which I have not worked on for months and a similar problem with my paternal database, in which I had NOT edited any bibliographic entries.) I have Deluxe version 6.0.0.118 December 6, 2006, build. What is causing the problem? What should I do about it? I'll appreciate any help! Pat Hickin Have you unlocked the real power of Legacy? Re: [LegacyUG] Corrupted GEDCOMs - UTF-8 format
I've got Notepad and Wordpad -- rarely use either -- except Notepad via Legacy, and then I usually copy whatever into a WordPerfect file if I want to save it. Is there any reason I cannot/shouldn't uninstall Wordpad -- to be sure I avoid the problems you're talking about here? Pat - Original Message - From: "Brian/Support" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Sunday, October 29, 2006 2:29 PM Subject: [LegacyUG] Corrupted GEDCOMs - UTF-8 format I was working this week with a user who reported that when he generated a GEDCOM using the UTF-8 character set option instead of ANSI the output file was corrupted. It contained random characters which rendered the file unusable by other applications for import. These characters sometimes were at the beginning of the line, sometimes embedded within the line where a space would be or, in a few cases, even replaced characters in the TAG (the part of a GEDCOM line that tells the importing software what the line means). I initially could not duplicate the problem, nor, when he sent me snippets of the affected parts of his GEDCOM, see any errors. I eventually looked at his snippets in a variety of text editors and Word Processor programs and was able to see there were "bad" characters visible in Wordpad but not Notepad nor most of the Word Processors. After I reported my difficulty in even viewing the "bad" characters in the snippets he sent me I received the following reply: "The comments you made in your email regarding viewing the output by various means led to me doing some further investigation. You will probably be pleased to know that I no longer think it is a Legacy problem! By a little bit of trial and error I believe I have isolated the problem to Wordpad; the editor I was using. It appears that Wordpad is misreading the UFT-8 GEDCOM file and substituting random characters on the initial loading of the file. If you then have Wordpad save this file it saves the characters that it has misread. I have tried loading and saving the GEDCOM in various text editors and I am unable to reproduce the problem. I then did a little bit of further research on the internet and I found various references by people who have encountered a similar problem with Wordpad (and MSWord) - and some of the info is fairly old. I am amazed that there has not been more people experiencing this same problem and I am even more amazed that Microsoft have not been made aware of this problem and for them not to have fixed it. From my reading Wordpad, unknown to the user, converts the text to UFT-16. As I have limited knowledge of this subject I will avoid using Wordpad in future. This is something that everyone, everywhere should be made aware of and you folk should keep this in mind when anyone else advises you of some text editing problem. Thanks for your help and I am pleased for you that it apparently is not a Legacy problem." I was granted permission to relay this information to the Legacy Users Group as a caution to anyone who want to view their GEDCOM's produced by Legacy, or any other program, to be wary of this issue if you open the GEDCOM in Wordpad. -- Brian Customer Support Millennia Corporation [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com We are changing the world of genealogy! I have Webroot Spysweeper and do a daily sweep and never have any problems with Legacy functions (except for not knowing how to use it and that kind of thing!). Re: [LegacyUG] Copying events (e.g., between spouses)
Personally, I just put all joint things under the husband's name and would enter it under the wife's name only if there was a difference. E.g., if he moved to San Francisco in 1935 and she stayed East with the children till 1938. Or, if he was an architect and she was too I'd enter that in both, since I'd assume an occupation was HIS occupation and that her occupation was HERS. If you can't tell certain events are individual or family I'd make it clear in the Events Description. This method is probably not pleasing to a lot of people, but personally I don't have a problem with it. The method I would use would be to go to the event click edit and copy it to the source clipboard using the icon then go to his spouse and and paste again using the icon. This way all the details and sources are copied. However, this will need to be done for each event. I tend to copy things like this to all persons at the time of entering. Just I though I use the marriage events for a couple's residence and not the individual events - a matter of choice though. So, I'll plunge in and risk asking something previously asked! So, I have a person in my family file. I have meticulously filled in a bunch of addresses in city directories as "Residence" events for that person. Now, I wish to apply them all to that person's spouse. Is there an EASY way to do this? I realize I can copy the events individually, but it would be really handy to be able to, for example, copy all of the Residence events to another person. Or to select a few different events, and copy them all at once. This would be handy for a spouse, but also for children before they grow up and move out, or other family members living together, etc. Any suggestions? My apologies if this has been asked recently. I'm not sure where you've been setting the fonts. Default fonts for Reports are set in Options > Customise - Fonts tab. These can be overridden in the Report Settings. In the Publishing Centre, Fonts are changed on the Options Tab. They affect all reports in the Current Book. A new book appears to revert to the default fonts. Re: RE: [LegacyUG] Paid Genealogy Search Sites-Apol 2nd attempt
My computer hss a mind of its own these days -- anyway I think I need to apologize for my earlier rather ill-tempered message. I've been to dinner since and my brain seems to be SOMEWHAT more functional. So I've found a way to send an email to Ancestry--somehow I'd forgotten all about the ubiquitous "Contact Us" link. I've fired off an email to them and perhaps I'll get a workable response. Like so many commercial (ane especially genealogical??) enterprises the actualities, I fear, do not live up to the advertising hype. And I'm sure I'll discover much helpful info -- indices to the 1830-50 censuses alone will be great. I think some of you have already taken time to respond to my earlier message and I thank you for that -- this is SUCH a helpful group. I'm going to be off on a research trip next week and hope I won't have to pester you with more questions! Thanks for ALL your help! Re: RE: [LegacyUG] Paid Genealogy Search Sites
Hope it's OK to ask this. I've decided to give Ancestry a whirl and am totally frustrated -- I don't expect you to answer this question, but if you can tell me how to get help from Ancestry I'll appreciate it! EVERY family tree says my grandparents (born in MD) were married in Botetourt Co., VA, in 1785. From my personal use of Botetourt Co., marriage records in person in the courthouse, I know the Bot Co marriage records begin in 1785. I do not think my grandparents were in Botetourt Co until the 1790s. So, I want to look at the BC records in the ame way that you can browse census images on HeritageQuest. I FINALLY found on Ancestry Help how to find out what original record groups are available on Ancestry and how to browse them, but when I attempted to follow the directions, I lost the Help screen, could not find what I'd been instructed to look for. Then I could not find that help screen again. A few minutes earlier I had sent a question off to Ancestry by email; now I cannot find out how to do that!! Before signing up, I thought I read that they had an email group or forum for help using Ancestry AND finding ancestors. (Like this group for Legacy) Now I can't find that either. So I did an individual marriage search and left EVERY field blank except for county name. It came up with only 70 marriages in a period of about 35 years! So all I want to know is how to communicate with Ancestry so I can find out how to get to original images -- or find out whether they're even available!! My email address is below. From what I can see - and I may be quite wrong, so others should check it out for themselves - the main database is other people's trees which they have entered or uploaded. I signed up at my local library and can now access HeritageQuest Online from my home computer. I do that several times a week, sometimes for hours at a time. For a time we could do the same with Ancestry but that became too expensive for the library and now I have to go into the library to use it. At first I had to use their computers (with a 1 1/2 hour time limit) but now they have wireless and have told me I can bring my laptop in and access Ancestry (no time limit!). Of course I can always put in explanatory wording, and as I've said I've been pleased to see that the words don't interfere with the accuracy of the sorting by date feature. Changing the Source Detail doesn't do anything to the Source Detail Text. If it's no longer appropriate, you need to delete it. To correct your error, it may be easier to delete all that Source Detail Text with Search > Search and Replace and then enter it again in the right place. The first time I created a new Master Source, created Detail Information and then typed in some Detail Text. I had the boxes checked for "Add this detail to the source citation on reports" and "Add this text to the source citation on reports" and it printed out just as I would have expected - each reference to the Master Source had the correct Detail Information, followed by the correct Detail Text. Today I have been going thru emails from her, some of which are several months old, and entering info from them into my maternal database. In one case I copied the email in its entirety and pasted it in the "Detail Text" screen -- it was from a July 9 email in regard to the marriage of a roomer/cousin who lived with my grandparents in the 1920s. Then I entered info from other emails from her to a number of other cousins -- most of these were from other emails and thus the detail info changed frequently.. Then I came across another email (Sept 12) that I wanted to quote in its entirety. It had to do with the date a COLLATERAL ancestor of her FATHER married a COLLATERAL ancestor of our maternal granndmother, so as usual I used the Master Source "Email from Virginia Cousin to PPH" and in the Detail, I entered the new subject line, new email date, and time, then clicked on "Detail Text" to paste in the text of the Sept 12 email. I assumed the "Detail Text" would be empty -- right?! WRONG! Lo and behold the text from the July 9 email was still there!!! So this means, I assume, that I have now have info about a my maternal grandparents' 1920 roomer attached to entries about my cousin's new granddaughter's birth (2006), her paternal great-great grandmother (1815) and God knows what else. [LegacyUG] Never married and no children option
At the bottom of the Individual Edit screen this sentence appears, with a box to check in front of it: "This individual never married and had no children." Why are these two facts linked together without any other option? Why not two sentences: "This individual never married." "This individual had no children." I have two half 2x great grandaunts who each had a child out of wedlock. One later got married; the other never did. Another problem with this sentence is that I do not know how on earth anybody knows for sure that (almost) any man had no children, including in some/many cases the man himself. It seems to me it would be better to use this sentence (without the extra caps!): "This individual had no KNOWN children." Is there some reason that this option is worded in the way it is??? On the Marriage screen there are two similar sentences: "This couple did not marry." "This couple had no children." So why can't there be two sentences on the individual screen??? But when I now enter a child in Legacy, I have to remember to select Natural. It would be nice (for me) if Legacy would automatically choose Natural when a child is linked to parents. (Is there an option for this? If not, could there be an option to select for this?) I think it is important to have this information, because it can be crucial to sourcing how you found out who the parents were to this child. You won't always remember how you discovered that Joe DOE was the father to Mary DOE. On another note, I have used Child Status to indicate "Niece" when a girl went from being listed as Niece to Daughter in her Aunt's household over many years of census returns, and I had no information on who her parents were. So it can be used if there are ambiguous relationships without documentation showing adoption, etc. With regards to the original question, the two relationships take up two fields, not just one, so that is probably why it is not an option. If you add Stepchild to the Child Status list, how will you know from the family view who is the Stepparent? You may wish to think through this before making changes. Re: [LegacyUG] How do I cancel all of my to do list
I haven't tried deleting, but I did go to the TO-DO LIST, highlighted the first entry, held down the shift-key and went to the last item and clicked on it. As a result my entire list was highlighted. It seems to me that you could then hit the Delete key OR go to Options and click on Delete. That SHOULD delete all of them. I didn't want to see if it worked, but you might try it. [LegacyUG] Passenger Express--where do I get help!?
I just downloaded the free version of Passenger Express and am just beginning the process of creating my first project. Where do I go to get help? (There is no "Help"option listed on the bar.) Is there a PE support mail list for PE as there is for Legacy. (I've gotten an error message that says: Error ! An error occurred in OpenImageDesigner. (401) Can't show non-modal form when modal form is displayed.) I haven't the FOGGIEST notion of what that means. I have no idea of what to do next except to click OK. Also at the beginning, it told me to choose a picture, but did not give me an opportunity to choose one of my pictures -- it just had a dozen or so pictures of other people's families to choose from. I haven't added any pictures into my Legacy files since I want too be sure I have them organized the way I want them, since I assume Legacy won't be able to find them if I change the folder (or the name of a folder) a picture is in. Do I have to have the pictures already added into my Legacy file? Also on the title page, where I had told it to say "Our Patline-Matline Family Heritage" it only says "Our Patline-Matline Family Her." On the title page (where the menu buttons are), when I click on "Legacy file" nothing happens/opens, though I imported a Legacy file and it has told me the import is complete. I'm not expecting the Legacy User Group to answer these questions, but I am hoping you CAN tell me where to go to get the answers! Thanks! [LegacyUG] HELP! needed with LEGACY 6 DeLuxe UNINSTALL
I have been unable to open Legacy on my laptop yesterday and today (had a problem closing it a couple days ago; I suppose that's what started the problem). So I went online and it seemed to me that what I need to do is to "completely uninstall Legacy." (Before doing any of this I ran my fully updated anti-virus and anti-spyware programs and both reported "no errors.") So I have followed the online instructions from the Legacy OnLine help site and done the uninstall. Now I am at the stage that says > from My Computer, open C:\Legacy [folder], which I've done. It says to "delete all the files but not any of the folders." There were several dozen files and I deleted ALL of them easily EXCEPT for 3 files, which I could not delete. One had no extension but had the Legacy shield as the icon. The other two were Legacy.ldb and Legacy.lng. The computer refused to delete any of the three, saying that they were open, perhaps being used by another user, etc. Well, I had not opened them, and nobody else was using them, but I closed the C drive and My Computer, and I shut the computer down to Restart, and tried again. I was still unable to delete any of these 3 files. So can somebody tell me either 1) That it's OK to leave them and install on top of them -- or wherever. OR 2) How to get rid of them? I don't know why it's telling me they're open when I have not opened them! Thanks SO much for any help. Pat H. For land, I have added one called Land transaction And another sort of weird one that I call Also living with I use it to put in the name(s), ages, etc. of relatives, servants, etc. that I pick up from a census. I have a bunch of others, but I find both of these quite helpful. (Sorry I cannot do apostrophes, quotes, etc.) I wanted to ask. I have seen some instances of TMG users sharing event definitions and wondered, does anyone have any Legacy ones to share? Pat - Original Message - From: "Alastair Lack" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Legacy Letters" Sent: Thursday, August 10, 2006 7:01 AM Subject: [LegacyUG] PDFs and RTFs We seem to have a rather curious situation as regards report printing from Legacy. If I print to Legacy pdf, an RTF is first created that looks terrific, which one glimpses on its way to the pdf; all is formatted correctly - title page, contents, pictures properly aligned, captions as they should be. BUT one cannot then of course edit it to get rid of the 'unknowns' and other grammatical glitches, and the PDF is not compatible with modern standards. If I print to rtf, intending to print to an Acrobat printer, the RTF is not at all the same as that created in the above para - most but not all pictures are left justified, captions read [caption John Doe], section headings are different etc. Loads of editing needed. Is there a way to get hold of the RTF created by Legacy on the way to a PDF? or to get a more modern PDF converter installed? I do have Acrobat 6 Professional on my computer, but it can only work with what it's given Warm regards :-) Alastair Lack Legacy User Group guidelines can be found at: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp To find past messages, please go to our searchable archives at: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ For online technical support, please visit http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe please visit: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp Legacy User Group guidelines can be found at: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp To find past messages, please go to our searchable archives at: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ For online technical support, please visit http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe please visit: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp

Cathy and Brian -- I've finally had a chance to try your suggestion and it worked beautifully -- Thanks! Pat CathyWed, 26 Jul 2006 18:27:56 -0700 Hi Pat, The words in square brackets are a field code and must be exact. If you really have [Full Name] (with a space) it won't work. [FullName] should. Re: [LegacyUG] Where to Enter Obits?
What about UNC? (unidentified newspaper clipping), which no doubt would have appeared in the local newspaper where the person lived and the approximate date -- soon after the person died. If reasonably recent you can do a Google search and find the name of newspaper, date, and obituary itself. Most cities have only one or two newspapers and maintain obituary archives. Re: [LegacyUG] To keep or not to keep?
Consider donating them to a local historical library -- you can probably put them on a closed deposit (and retain ownership and control over who sees what) for a number of years -- they can be a great source for social history of ordinary -- or important -- students of history and genealogy in later years. Transcribed letters just don t convey the personality/mood of the writer in the same way that an original does. Pat - Original Message - From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Sunday, July 23, 2006 4:05 PM Subject: [LegacyUG] To keep or not to keep? Genealogy has mainly been a lark for me over the years fueled by curiosity. Filling in the blanks was the goal, not documenting every word. Using Legacy made me rethink my approach, along with communication with a cousin who does it the "right" way. Her records made me realize that it is important for my descendents to be able to find where I got my information. I am slowly documenting what I can of my research instead of gleefully adding names...not much fun in that! This list is being enormously helpful. When my parents died (father in 1996 and mother in 2003), I gathered all the papers they had saved relating to genealogy. Happily, I had spent time with each of them identifying old photos and documenting stories. The papers have been sitting for a long time. A few months ago, I finally started organizing and transcribing them. I am archiving original legal and other important documents, of course. However, there were reams of letters and notes from family members. I have transcribed them verbatim and noted that they were handwritten letters from so-and-so, then discarded them to save space. Now I am thinking that I am destroying original records and should be given 20 lashes! But, says me, these are like oral history, not solid documents like birth certificates and such. It seems that trying to keep every scrap of paper is unwieldy and unnecessary. How do you decide what to preserve? [LegacyUG] TWO GENERATIONS ONLY- -WIIH SPOUSES
Thanks, Kay and Cathy, for the help, but I'm getting too much information with both the Family Group sheet and the Descendant report in the Book section --my fault, I wasn't clear about wanting just names only. What I want is JUST this (e.g.): John Doe m. 1) Ann Smith Children: John Doe, Jr. m. Mary Jones Agnes Doe m. Henry Brown Robert Doe m 1) Kate Johnson 2) Nancy Hanks Casper Doe m Anita Jackson etc. for all the children John Doe m 2) Alice Miller Children: George Doe m Ann Jackson Jasper Doe m Martha Randolph Frances Doe m Jonathan Green === No dates, no places, no grandchildren, no sentences -- just first and last names of couple, and their children and spouses. If I do want dates, I'd like them simple: John Doe (1749-1829) m 1773 Ann Smith (1752-1846). I could use these simple lists as research guides -- for example when I'm browsing a census and interested in seeing whose living next door to whom and for having all the intermarriages stand out without a lot of clutter. I'm not sure this makes sense It's VERY easy to do this in Family TreeMaker, either with or without dates, and though I like Legacy much better for most things, like so many other Legacy users I find the report options disappointing. Also, I'm continuing to add individuals and to have to continually produce a gedcom, export it and import it into FTM is a nuisance-- maybe Legacy and FTM could "merge" and give us the best of both worlds!! :-) Anyway, if anyone knows how to generate the above kind of data from Legacy, I'll really appreciate your help. [LegacyUG] TWO GENERATIONS ONLY- -WITH SPOUSES
Often I just want to view or print out the name of a parent and spouse with all their children and spouses, but no children. If i do a descendant report with 2 generations, I get the parents and children, but no spouses. I have to go to 3 generations to get the spouses of the children included--and since most of them had a dozen children, each of whom had a dozen children, that is just too much info. Can somebody tell me how to get it to print or create a report of one set of parents with all their children and all the children's spouses, but NO grandchildren!? Re: [LegacyUG] Key code Assignments
This would be a bit cumbersome, but until you get a program that enable you yo do that, you could list all the items you want to use in a Word or WP document, keep the document open, and then simply highly the phrase/clause, do a control C, go back to the Legacy spot where you want to enter it and do a control V. At least its less trouble than typing the whole thing in each time. [LegacyUG] Descendant list--1st ancestor in a particular line to me
So sorry to bother you again! I don't think there's a way to do this easily, but just thought I'd ask! I want to make a list of Paternal line and spouse, down to me -- just husband and wife (with dates and maybe pob and pod), each ancestor and spouse in order. e.g. John Stag (dob-dod)-Jane Doe (dob-dod) John Stag, Jr. (dob-dod)-Mary Deer (dob-dod) Henry Stag (dob-dod) - Ann Hare (dob-dod) Zachary Stag (dob-dod) - Juanita Moose (dob-dod) Husband of me (dob-dod) - Me (dob-dod) Just the direct lineage from ancestor to me (actually I want to do this for a cousin) with dates and maybe locations. I want to do this for each ancestor down -- no extra spouses; no siblings. I don't see a way to do that, except manually-- or I guess I could do a descendant list and save to a text file and go thru and delete everybody I didn't want? Or is there a way to tag everybody in the direct lineage? I know how to get them bolded--is there a way to get the bolded ones tagged? I looked for Focus Groups in Help but found nothing. I feel as though I am really pestering the group ! I do want to say that by and large I really like Legacy and I REALLY appreciate all the help I've received so far!! Re: [LegacyUG] Source Types
Cathy, I just tried this (It looks complicated, but it takes only a few minutes): Click on each of the following in turn: View Master Lists Sources Options Print PDF File radio button in lower right-hand corner Create (in upper right-hand corner) Save (in lower right-hand corner) (Open the new file in Adobe) File Save as text (Give it a file name) (Open your word processor to a new document-- I use Word Perfect.) Insert Click on the text file you just saved, after it's inserted into your new WP or Word document you next do a Find and replace, as follows: Edit Find and Replace Match Codes (Locate HRt--(Hard Return on the list of codes)) Insert (1x in the Find box) Insert (2x in the Replace box) Replace All And there your sources are, with a double space between each of the sources. Check to be sure you don't have any unwanted Hard Returns. This sounds complicated, but takes only a few minutes. At this point you could go thru the list and at the beginning of each source give it a 1 or 2-letter code to indicate the type and then do a Sort on "first word in paragraph", and you'd have them grouped by source. (This is the only part that is time-consuming, and if LEGACY would offer an option of adding the Source Type at the beginning of each source, that could speed things up considerably. How hard would theat be to do??) What do you think?? Re: [LegacyUG] EDITING LOCATIONS, tagging, etc.
What I'm looking for is a list I can select individuals, one by one, from to edit--then delete the individual I've edited from the list.-- somehow I'm beginning to get the impression there's no such thing--!?? Guess I shouldn't complain as I'm SO-O-O impressed with all the options Legacy does offer. - Original Message - From: "John S. I just post it to the notes fr the head of the household, though sometimes I add info like place of birth or age/approximate year of birth to various individuals and cite the Census. - Original Message - From: "ronald ferguson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Thursday, June 15, 2006 1:03 PM Subject: RE: [LegacyUG] Census data in Legacy That's how I do it. Since you can't link more than one person to the census data (like the Witness function in TMG), do you just save it to Clipboard, then go to each individual in the census household and add the event? Thanks for any assistance with this - or other tips from those who have migrated from TMG to Legacy. [LegacyUG] EDITING LOCATIONS, tagging, etc.

Maybe I have figured out what you meant... I think you misunderstand what tagging a location does. Tagging a location in the Location List does *not* tag the individuals who use the location. It simply tags the location record. And location records only have one available tag #. I use this mostly when importing a partial list of locations from one file to another. -- Dennis M.
