I suspect with a one name study, many people are not extra siblings or

them in the usual way rather than jump through hoops.

I had assumed she was referring to her server, not the
LUG administrators, since I have never heard any
directives from them on this. On the other hand, we
are requested to please include the whole trail of a
question until final resolution. IMHO, the difference
between half a page or a quarter page of plain text is
minimal. Most 'cheap' servers 'expect' two to three
pages per e-mail?

To be honest, I don't think that the administrators want the messages to be
as short as possible. I think that they would prefer if we got a clear
understanding of the situation and what your question is and not have to
send so many more messages trying to find out what you're asking.

Please explain in your email what you are doing, what you are experiencing,
what you would like to know. None of us is a mind-reader. When you author

Valerie,

Actually, if you have trouble remembering which person you were working on,
click on the little triangle between the large arrows on the toolbar. It
will bring up a History List. At the top of the list will be the person or

Use the Esc key to get ack to the main page (the one with all the tabbed
panels), then use Ctrl-N to add a New, Unlinked Individual.

Then Ctrl-I to get back into your Name List.

Maybe this got missed but I don't think it did. Valerie, you can toggle
back and forth between the Family tab and the Sources tab in the Name
List. You do not need to leave the Name List to add individuals. Just
go the Family tab, click on some-one in that family's list, other than

the box that comes up to add a brother, sister or spouse as appropriate.

What I do to easily return to a person is use the middle of the three

Valerie,
Try this to keep your place in the name list.
Do 'your thing' in the name list, with your list in order of surname or RIN
as you normal procedure.
When you find you need to add another name, select that person from the
name list you were looking at. That selection brings your individual to the
family view. From there, select Add from the top tool bar & add your new
individual.
When finished you'll find yourself in the Family view with the new
individual on the screen.
Now, click on the large Back arrow to return to the previous family view

Now, select your Name List again & you are right back on the Name List

I am trying to check my sources and in the process am finding some people
are missing and I have to leave where I am, go out and the into add and
then back to where I was. With my poor memory I am becoming quite lost.

 Why didn't I start this when I was 7 ???

I always try and keep my messages as short as possible as the administrators

Thanks for your thoughts.

Just one solution - pen and paper! Note the RIN of the person you were last
looking at in the name list when you found there was a missing person - go
out, add them. Then go back to the name list and enter the RIN to take you
back to where you were.

PS. It really helps when you tell us what you are trying to do when you hit
a problem. Most of us don't use the programme for one name studies, we need
look at your problems through different lenses in order to help you.

Use the Esc key to get ack to the main page (the one with all the tabbed
panels), then use Ctrl-N to add a New, Unlinked Individual.

Then Ctrl-I to get back into your Name List.

New people are generally added to be in relation to some-one who's

I'm not sure what you mean, Valerie. From the Index (is this what you mean
by Name List?) you can pull down "Add" from the top=line menu, and add
whatever the category of person is ( wife, son, unrelated, etc).

You might find it interesting and informative to pull down all of the menus
and experiment with them, just to begin to find your way around a bit. You
can't go too far wrong, as long as you are backing up at regular intervals.
You will find it to be a good and worthwhile education.

Best,
Janis Walker Gilmore
