I am in agreement with Dave. Typo's are unacceptable. It truely shows how much 'true' effort was put into the thing. I see more and more companies putting things out with typo's in them, it's pathetic. If your bank issued your checks with a typo, would it be acceptable? If your employer made a typo on your name on your paycheck, would it be acceptable? If you put up the URL to your web site with a typo, would it be acceptable? I think not. I may be picky too, but I feel that if a company can't take the time to check spelling then it's not worth my time to use it. I would have loved to write a step-by-step for this, except that I can't seem to figure out how to get wep to work. I could not get it to work with the orinoco module. I don't believe the orinoco module is capable of this. I found in wireless.opts where it stated that to use encription requires the wvlan_cs module, but I had no luck getting that to load either. I then tried linux-wlan-ng and could never get it to work at all. At this point I reloaded the machine with a newer version of caldera and haven't had the time to try linux-wlan-ng again. Right now I am running the orinoco module with no wep...again. :( ___ Linux-users mailing list Archives, Digests, etc at http://linux.nf/mailman/listinfo/linux-users

I discovered that it has to do with the key. I disabled WEP on the access point and now it works. The access point has 3 choices for WEP, disabled, 64-bit and 128-bit (I had it set for 128-bit). I put in a passphrase, hit done and that was the key it showed. I tried entering it as you suggested but it didn't work. It gave an error about unsupported command or something like that so I manually entered it in wireless.opts, didn't work though. Perhaps I edited incorrectly. It originally had something like KEY="s:secu1" or something like that and I replaced the s:secu1 with the key I had. I don't really like it running without WEP though. I gotta figure this out. Any other ideas or places I can research this key problem? Linksys was of no help, they don't support linux. Linksys Wireless Troubles
I am in need of help with setting up the WPC11 pcmcia card for my laptop. I have qwest DSL with a dynamic ip. The laptop is running OpenLinux 3.1. I tried to follow the step by step, but I must be missing something. After loading pcmcia-cs-3.1.30 I now get power to the card but no 'activity' on the thing, as in the green light is always dark. shouldn't I have loaded a kernel module for this card? If so, which one? My network.opts is as follows: I got this info from windows on same laptop IP ADDR="10.0.0.5" NETMASK="255.255.255.0" NETWORK="" BROADCAST=10.0.0.255" # GATEWAY="10.0.0.1" # DOMAIN="" SEARCH="" DNS_1="206.81.192.1" DNS_2="204.147.80.5" I don't understand what is needed for NETWORK, DOMAIN and SEARCH. Are they all required fields? Also, the laptop has a built-in ethernet as eth0 and the WPC11 is eth1. Can both be loaded at boot time? Am I going to be able to use wireless or wired whichever I choose without reconfiguring something? As you can tell, I know little about wireless, laptops and networking and linux. I was trying to install Caldera Workstation 3.1.1 but it won't work. I discovered that the drive partition I wanted to install is NTFS. Lizzard does not seem to even recognize the NTFS. Does lizzard not know how to handle NTFS? Any ideas how to get around this? It looks as though windows XP is using the NTFS partition to store a 24 meg "image". Any thoughts? I forgot that I replaced the power supply a couple of weeks ago and must have knocked the ide cable loose. With the cable on I can now access the zip drive. I have a new problem now though, it doesn't seem to want to let me eject the disk. I created an icon for it on the desktopused the create new floppy device choice. I put in the disk, chose mount from the icon, it mounts it, but it never changes to the unmount choice. I then unmounted it from xterm and it seemed to unmount ok but it won't eject. I restarted X and logged back in and it let me eject it then. This is wierd, any thoughts on this? And again, sorry for my earlier stupidity. To start with, this has been my first attempt at creating PDF files. I may be missing something very obvious here. I wish to create some documents in PDF format but also want it to be able to center text, different font sizes, possibly some bold as well. I tried kword and saved to .txt format which won't work. I also tried saving in kwd format but that didn't work either (obviously). Everything I seem to find talks about converting txt files but if txt files do not have formatting, what should I be trying to do? I have never tried this on windows either...I am totally new to creating PDF files. Money is not an issue. If I can find something to do this then paying for it is no problem. I can see how this could be very useful. I tend to purchase all software if it serves my purposes. Help with PDF files
I have been playing with converting text files to ps format using a2ps, then to pdf format using ps2pdf. For the most part it seems to work. However, I cannot figure out how to maintain the format or font sizes of the original document. I have read about everything I could get my hands on but still cannot figure it out. I have been using kword and saving as a txt file and proceeding from there. I have been using the following commands: a2ps --borders=0 --output= ps2pdf If anyone has been doing this, or has any clue what I am doing wrong, please let me know. This is driving me crazy! Stale lock file?
I am running eW3.1 (beta) and am having a problem with the floppy. If I try to mount it from the terminal it tells me it is already mounted. I can cd to /mnt/floppy and see the files. If I click on the floppy icon on my desktop it tells me it is already mounted or busy. I can't umount it from the desktop icon because it doesn't have umount on the menu, it's still mount. If I try to umount from the terminal it says it cannot create link /etc/mtab~, perhaps there is a stale lock file? Can someone explain to me what the 'stale lock file' is all about, and maybe a solution to this? This happened before and I couldn't figure anything out so I rebooted.
