Downloading LyX 1.6.4: Error by accessing the server

2009-09-16 Thread I Wayan Warmada
Dear LyX lists,
I have tried to download the new lyx since it has been
announced, but up to now is not successed. The server
said. I have checked it everyday:
--
Error!
Could not connect. FTP server may be too busy.

You tried to access the address ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/bin/1.6.4, which is
currently unavailable. Please make sure that the Web address (URL) is correctly
spelled and punctuated, then try reloading the page.

I have also tried all of the mirrors, but I found that the newest LyX version
is 1.6.0.

Thank you very much for your help.

use authblk.sty from preprint package. The authblk.sty can handle up to 6
affiliation. I have use by putting this package in preamble like:

\usepackage[auth-lg]{authblk}
   \author[1]{name of author 1}
   \author[1,2]{name of author 2 with two affiliation}
   \affil[1]{affiliation 1}
   \affil[2]{affiliation 2}

etc, please read the documentation.
Btw, you don't need to put the author in editing area, because it already
define in preamble.

Re: Problems with jpg-quality with ps2pdf

2009-05-23 Thread I Wayan Warmada

Hallo Robert,
actually, this is not the problem of LyX nor LaTeX, but the problem of selected
type of figure format. You made a vector figure but you save as a loosy
compressed raster format. If you want the same figure as in Corel, either you
use eps format (as suggested by Yago), or you use tiff with 450 or 600 dpi
resolution (or you may compress as PNG). I prefer 600 dpi tiff format. You have
only 10 figure, I think no problem with 600 dpi.

Some eps from Corel may not be opened by some eps rendering program (like gv or
epstopdf). If so, you can remove unneeded part of eps file (using text editor),
for example the unknown text befor %!PS-Adobe-3.0 EPSF-3.0 and after %%EOF (the
newer Corel may not produce it).

As I remember, pdflatex jpeg file format but not eps or ps format.
try to use program epstopdf to convert eps to pdf format. Or if you have ps
file, you can convert it to eps with ps2epsi then epstopdf. "epstopdf" produce
small file normally.

you need to set the resolution of the *.jpg. Sometimes digital camera produce
to high resolution image, which is actually not needed by the document (pdf).
Setting the resolution and size of pictures will reduce the size of *.pdf as
well as *.jpg.

In Linux, just download xargs.sty and put somewhere in texmf directory
(super-user mode) then run texhash. It will solve the problem (texlive 2007 and

Modifying a class partially is simply by using a "renewcommand". But
for all part of class is better by making a new class (probably,

You may use OT1 instead of T1 if you still use ae font
with PDF output. I have used almost font in my

T1. You can change in lyxrc file under directory

yes, you are right. There is an error if you used float figure. The
package can not combine with float because it will break the 2 column mode
into one-column exactly after the command \begin{strip}, which mean the

Adding fonts in menu...

2003-02-27 Thread I Wayan Warmada

Dear LyX-users,
is possible to add some fontname in the menu --> layout->document? In
original lyx is only 8 fonts listed. If I want to add a font in the list,
example utopia or lucida... but not to touch the preamble. Touching
preamble is only for advanced users.

Sorry if already discussed, I didn't find in archive (difficult to have a

you can define a boundingbox of your eps image, and input it into

drawing ---> xfig or tgif.
plotting --> xmgrace or gnuplot but gnuplot hasn't a fill pattern...
 I always use combine gnuplot + xfig (the best solution).

not in the _cell_ but insert a minipage in the _cell_ with command Insert
-> Minipage. Then put the cursor in the minipage field by clicking
minipage button. Click right mouse to view the minipage option. Type your
items in this minipage...

I attach an example for itemize in _cell_ (lyx-1.2.x)

put the cursor at the end of item in minipage, then add a space with
command Layout --> Paragraph --> Vertical space
add the following command in preamble in order the space between items are
not so big:

\let\olditemize=\itemize
\def\itemize{\olditemize\setlength{\itemsep}{-0.5ex}}
\let\oldenumerate=\enumerate
\def\enumerate{\oldenumerate\setlength{\itemsep}{-0.5ex}}

put the cursor in the minipage and click right mouse...

Change vertical space in table cell

2002-10-24 Thread I Wayan Warmada

Dear lyx-users,
is it possible to change the vertical size of the table cell?
like in this scheme:

---
   A   |
---
   B   |
---

I want to make the vertical size of cell A is 1/2 of the vertical
size of B.

Thank you very much for your help.
