[Mac-access]: Voice Over Issue With The New iPad Air 2

2014-11-06 Thread Renee M. Zelickson
I have just purchased the new iPad and have escalated some issues regarding
Voice Over not performing as it did on my old one, and was wondering if anyone
has experienced the following:

1. In the Apple Store App: After selecting a store from the list, a pop up
appears with the button to confirm the store selection. when double tapping,
the app crashes.
2. In the App Store: The only way I have been able to get rid of the pop up
after selecting an app to download and install, is by turning off Voice Over.
I turn it back on again when I want to make another selection.
3. While I realize that some guessers have changed, such as the way you close
apps, I am noticing that Voice Over bounces around.

I have demonstrated these at the store, because I would rather the feed back
come from them; it seems to go further.

Thanks
Renee

Brenda it's inside the oval shaped recess above the volume controls. You
have to use your fingernail to flick it up or down.

Hi Brenda. the orientation lock is in the control centre, so you have to
touch the status bar and do a three finger swipe up and then swipe right
with one finger past the media player controls, airplane, wifi,
bluetooth and do not disturb to orientation lock. Hope this helps?

erase and reset, and when that is done and you are setting up the iPad

Hi, your best bet for get a transfer of that kind is to use iCloud instead
of using iTunes use iCloud and restore your iPad from an iPhone back up or
in this case set up the iPad from one of your iPhones back ups.

Re: trying to sync with my iPhone on my new iPad Mini

2014-03-14 Thread meadowlark77
Well, this is interesting. I thought about doing that, too, but kept
insisting this should and could be done. Finally I did get the job done,
but--I could not get my folders that I made over there, so I decided that I
guess I'd have to forget that notion. They say thereis a way, but I couldn't
do it, simply because my screen reader does not seem to have access to where
they say we need to go. That part will be off topic here, so won't belabor
the point. At any rate, I got it to where all I had to do was to redownload
the voices. Seemed the last step I took, put the iPad in sync with my phone
enough, that it saw the purchases and let me know, but still had to
reinstall that. Some of the log ins for radio apps needed to be put back and
so on. I kept getting asked when the phone would come back on, if I had
given the iPad permission to access certain things such as iCloud and stuff
like that. So, yeah, I got something that I can work with at this point now.

Thanks,

Brenda

Okay, I actually had to redownload the Voice Dream. I didn't have to pay for
that again, but it's extra voices that I have, those purchases did not get
transferred, so every time I look at a voice, it says it's price and to buy
it. What do I do now?

Take care and thanks,

Hello Brenda. With Voice dream from what I know you don’t sink books that
are in the library. You can open books in there using the services that it
allows you like drop box or Book share i think. There are others. There may
be other settings it keeps the same. You can purchase voices which then can
be downloaded on other devices with no extra charges due to the fact that
they were purchased with your apple ID. I know of no other purchases like
books that you can make with it. I hope this helps.

Re: trying to sync with my iPhone on my new iPad Mini

2014-03-14 Thread meadowlark77
I finally did and could get this right to a certain extent. Thereis actually
a way to get the Voice Dream structure back, but on the filesharing thing,
that Voice Dream says we can do to restore the database, when we reinstall
Voice Dream, I couldnot get to work. Passwords and accounts would not come
over. Contacts did. None of my folders did. At any rate, I've got something
to work with now.

I need to know, though, how, now, do we get orientation lock in IOS7.1?
I did this to my phone in IOS6, and it has remained set the way I wanted it
to be. But nopw, in IOS7.1, I can't seem to do a three finger swipe to the
right in App Switcher, to find the orientation lock to keep the thing locked
in portrait. Now, it's going everywhere. I turned the "reduce Motion"
setting on, but stilll need to get this into portrait mode.

Thanks,

Brenda

You will need to restore it using iTunes, or from settings, general, reset,
erase and reset, and when that is done and you are setting up the iPad by
hand choose ro restore from an iCloud back up on the iPad itself do not use
iTunes.
Oh and make sure all iCloud settings you want enabled on the iPhone are
actually enabled and that iCloud is actually turned on on your iPhone too.
You can do this by going to settings, and iCloud.

Re: trying to sync with my iPhone on my new iPad Mini

2014-03-14 Thread meadowlark77
Okay, I actually had to redownload the Voice Dream. I didn't have to pay for
that again, but it's extra voices that I have, those purchases did not get
transferred, so every time I look at a voice, it says it's price and to buy
it. What do I do now?

Take care and thanks,

Brenda

Hello Brenda. With Voice dream from what I know you don’t sink books that
are in the library. You can open books in there using the services that it
allows you like drop box or Book share i think. There are others. There may
be other settings it keeps the same. You can purchase voices which then can
be downloaded on other devices with no extra charges due to the fact that
they were purchased with your apple ID. I know of no other purchases like
books that you can make with it. I hope this helps.

Hi, your best bet for get a transfer of that kind is to use iCloud instead of
using iTunes use iCloud and restore your iPad from an iPhone back up or in this
case set up the iPad from one of your iPhones back ups.

New iPad

2014-01-02 Thread Chris H

Good evening all
well i finally got my iPad mini wifi 128 gb in silver over an hour ago.
The setup was painless, but lol! I had to turn everything on in iCloud
settings just to get my contacts for example!
Now I'm currently downloading the free apps that Apple now offers when
you purchase a new iDevice, such as Pages. This is why I'm not sending
this from my iPad at this time.
Well my impressions overall? Very good! Feels nice and shiny, sound
quality is just amazing, and the on-screen keyboard is very nice
actually! Reminds me of a laptop keyboard because of the placement of
the comma and period keys to the right of m for example. Just need some
more practice though but I am getting there. But lol! earlier on, could
I find the at key as part of signing into my Apple Id? Could I heck!
Turned out it was to the right of the m key!
Anyway will keep you updated but those are my feelings so far. Can't
wait to test the sound out with music I synced to my iPad earlier on.
Speaking of which going to forget iTunes Match altogether, because it
won't let me sync my music for offline listening otherwise.

You take care and hope we can get something going on this!

Best wishes for 2014 Chris

Hi
thanks, yes i know what you mean, if you have an iPad already then
probably not worth the upgrade, as for me it's my first iPad as quoted
in the original thread.

I think restoring from your iPhone backup would have been a better

Hello all. I just joined the list. My name is Matthew Carello. I have an
Iphone4s and a IPad mini. I set up the mini as a new device and for some
reason all of my apps aren't showing up in purchased in the app store on the
iphone. What would be the best way to get these apps on to the IPad? I know
they work on IPads. Thank you for any help. Also would it have been bettter
to just restore from the Iphone backup? Or would that have not been a good
idea?

I believe that the only difference between iPad 2 and iPad 3 is the resolution

I am aware that some on list have replied to you with reference to iOS6.
However, I won't do that because it's against Apple's code of conduct to
speculate; regardless of the rumour mill. Yes, I know that possibly there may

that sometimes their weird logic and double standards are difficult to fathom..
Nevertheless, you'll find that it is future-proof so in all honesty my advice

Re: The new iPad.

2012-07-23 Thread Gordon Smith
I doubt very much you'd notice much difference to be honest. I'm not going to
talk about iOS6 because Apple discourages speculation. But your iPad 2 should
be future-proof for a while yet. It's only the original iPad which is being
effectively dropped. Of course, technical support and warranty services won't
be affected if, for example, you have an AppleCare plan which includes your
original iPad.

One thing about the new IPAD. The 4g selling point is an USA mobile (cellular)
standard. I do not know if it is something available in Europe. I believe it
use's a 1800 frequency. So countries like Australia cannot use the 4g component.

I wish the hell the Telco industry would standardise mobile technology so
everyone uses the same frequency. But licences and governments like to screw
people around.

2012-03-08 Thread Nicolai Svendsen
Hi,

Just to correct you here. Yes, Apple does allow it, and yes they do exist, but
experimentally so. However, the companies haven't made it into a regular
keyboard such as the ones you can set under Keyboard preferences in Settings,
which is also possible to do without any particular access to any source code.
You don't need any low-level access in iOS to do this, so if the company can
make it a workable solution, it's perfectly able to be worthwhile. I admit it'd
be interesting to try, but it wouldn't make me faster.

Even so, though, the fact it is a small demand makes Apple less likely to do
it. Most companies probably wouldn't go for small-demand features, at least,
not often I'd think.

I can tell you how many times I read these knee jerk reactions like
this.

People seem to foget that the iPad and other devices are not marketed for
the blind. The vast majority of the market share are sighted folks.
Thus,

the bells and whistles are going to be orientated for that population.

However, as pointed out, that does not at all mean that the
improvements to the processor and camera won't benefit the blind. It is
a

vast improvement overall, and as with any new iDevice, the extent of the
improvements are never apparent from the presentation and don't seem to
get

fully realized until the device is being sold and third party developers
really start taking advantage of its new specs.

So, if you don't need a new iPad or you are happy with what you have,
that is fine. The new iPad may not be for you. However, don't make snap
reactions simply from a presentation that was not geared towards
accessibility and go assuming anything.

Re: Perkins keyboard layout in IOS? was new ipad

I would hope people, especially Blind folks are not walking down the street
texting.
If you do that, that explains your reasoning.

Thanks for the reply!! Wow!! You were serious then!! I'd be very
interested to learn what you would consider to be a comparable example.
Since you used the word companies in the plural form, surely you'll be able
to describe a single example of a main stream company that has made such an
investment so as to accommodate a tiny faction of a small minority of the
user community?

Yeah, I cut my teeth on the Perkins and even the slate and stylus, but can't
think of a more ridiculous and unreasonable demand. At age ten I learned
touch typing (known as keyboarding in today's lingo), but assume even had I
not done so, that VO on IOS provides sufficient feedback such that those
unfamiliar with the layout are not precluded from pulling off data entry.
Those who don't wish to master keyboarding can invest in a BT Braille
device, or spring for a 4S and use Siri. IMHO, the market place already
accommodates the type of users you're describing, and I hope that Apple
isn't distracted from adding vo features that would be of value to the
entire user community.

So how would you envision walking down the street with a guide dog while
composing a text? I can easily accomplish this, but doubt that would be
possible on an on-screen Perkins unless my note consisted of nothing but the
letter a.

Best regards.
Geoff

It is a
vast improvement overall, and as with any new iDevice, the extent of the
improvements are never apparent from the presentation and don't seem to

People seem to foget that the iPad and other devices are not marketed for the
blind. The vast majority of the market share are sighted folks. Thus, the
bells and whistles are going to be orientated for that population.

However, as pointed out, that does not at all mean that the improvements
to the processor and camera won't benefit the blind. It is a vast improvement
overall, and as with any new iDevice, the extent of the improvements are never
apparent from the presentation and don't seem to get fully realized until the

of its new specs.

So, if you don't need a new iPad or you are happy with what you have, that

Also it should be remembered that developers might be able to add functionality
to existing software because of improved hardware for example the higher
quality camera might improve o.c.r apps and other scanning software for
voiceover to work with.

Far to early to rush to judgement imho.
