Hi Donna. Thanks for your prompt reply. We are in a high rise apartment in a 
big city so I hope it isn’t a problem with our Internet. The technician who 
installed the new equipment last week said that he adjusted the signal from the 
cable for best performance so I don’t know what else our provider would do. I 
think I may have run out of things to try and any ideas are welcome even if 
they may not seem to be related to my problem.

Hi everyone. I hope this is the right place to ask this question since this is 
not an Apple issue. I have a question about Chromecasting to smart speakers. 
We have a number of Google Homes in our apartment and TuneIn stations drop at 
different times during the day. Just wondering if this happens using Apple 
HomePods as well.
 Brand new modem and router and we still experience this the most in the 
afternoons. Just trying to isolate if this may be a problem with ChromeCast and 
TuneIn rather than with the Google speakers specifically. If anyone has any 
ideas you can write to me privately at rbende...@gmail.com. Thanks.

How do I delete ringTones?

Dear List,

Using Mac OS Catalina, and IOS 12, I cant seem to delete ringTones.

On the phone under settings/ general/ iPhone Storage/ Music, I can 
delete music, but RingTones dont show here.


And I cant find them using Catalina.

Any help will be appreciated.

I have not tried this, but I copied the following line from a Apple 
support article:

If you use iCloud Drive, your rules are available on your other Mac 
computers that have iCloud


End quote.

So this means adding mail rules on your Mac should carry over to all 
your devices connected to iCloud.

Booting from USB Windows 10?

Dear List,

Is there something on the Mac that I need to change in order to be able 
to boot from a USB drive in windows?


I have a USB disk with the Windows 10 PE.

I hold the option key at startup and choose windows with the windows PE 
USB disk inserted, but windows start normally.

Windows 10 1803 cboot camp ctrl pannel error

Under windows 10 v1803, the boot camp control pannel gives me the 
following error when I choose to reboot into Mac Os 14.5:


Could not locate the OS X boot volume.

OK

Is there a way to solve this problem?

Hi,

On the Mac, we use apps such as Audio Hijack to record whatever is 
playing on the computer.


On Windows, most sound cards have a feature called Stereo Mix, or What 
you hear to record sounds on the PC. this is useful for recording the 
screen reader or recording streams off the web.

We received our Qardio Arm this week. We needed to have a sighted person click 
the check boxes for us and I have reported this to Qardio. My wife and I have 
it paired with our iPhones and it seems to work well now that our accounts are 
set up. I think now, we just need to get the placement of the cuff right so we 
can send correct results to our doctor.

I just wanted to add that the short text and document 
Channels seem to work well on my 5S and I use the app to check my mail. If I 
need better recognition, then I would use KNFB Reader or PrizmoGo which is free.

Unfortunately, the bar code Channel doesn’t work on the 5S.  The product 
channel doesn’t show up. I think that the processor or camera on the 5S were 
not good enough for Microsoft to include the support for the 5S.  I don’t know 
all of the details, but it doesn’t work on my 5S. I would be interested in 
hearing how the product channel works on phones newer than the 5S since I will 
be upgrading my phone soon.

Hi,
I used a low cost USB sound card from WalMart.
Please note that sometimes, NVDA boots with the no speech option selected.
Pressing insert+S, followed by pressing the home key, then enter should 
fix it.

until I reboot the phone.
2 After receiving a call and hanging up, VO often stays ducked down
like the call is still going. I suppose this is related to #1 above.
Any ideas how I can fix these problems?

Hi Kawal and everyone. I tried this with my 5S and no VoiceOver or Siri when 
the phone restarted. I have a pass code on my phone so it looks like I will 
have to have someone enter my pass code and turn on VoiceOver for me in order 
to do anything.
 I was hoping I could do it from iTunes, but I need to respond from my phone.

I would try changing the audio ducking feature. That seemed to make a 
difference in IOS 8 and I am not sure about IOS 9. We are listening to 
something right now, otherwise I would try it on our Apple TV.

Install Win10 in Bootcamp2009 MacBook

Hi,
I am writing this message from Windows 10 using ThunderBird on my 2009 
Mac Book.
The reason for this message is to let people know that Windows 10 can be 
installed using Boot Camp.
Even though it will say Windows 8 is not supported, just pay no 
attention to that.

Here is what you will need.
1. a cheap USB sound card.
I got one for $10 at WalMart.
2. Windows 7 PE Talking disk.
this will allow you to install Windows 7 or 10 using NVDA.
3. Windows 7 DVD
4. Windows 10 DVD.
5. 8GB USB drive
to download windows support drivers
OK, Now that you have everything, here is how you install windows on 
boot camp.

On the Mac, open the boot camp assistant.
If you haven't already, download the windows support drivers to a USB drive.
be sure the Windows7  DVD is inserted.
this is the only way to proceed to the disk partitioning section.
after choosing the partition sizes, the process was about 36% done
when I removed the windows 7 DVD from the drive. but after a while. it 
asked me to put it back in the drive.
so I did. it finished the partitioning and this time it did not 
automatically restart like it did last year when I installed windows on 
my mac book.

So I removed the windows 7 disk and inserted my windows 7 PE talking disk.
Next I open the startup disk preference window and chose to start using 
windows 7 PE disk.

the Mac restarted and loadded the windows 7 talking disk.
this is when you will need the external sound card connected.
using it I was able to hear NVDA when it loaded.
I then removed the talking disk and inserted the windows 10 disk in the 
drive.

Using NVDA, I navigated to the disk and ran the setup for windows 10.
After the Mac restarts, you need to wait untill the second restart, then 
press windows+Enter to start Narrator to finish the install.


Note, you can choose to skip entering a windows key.
This can be done once you have finished setting up windows.
I do not have a key because I am a windows insider.
Once the setup is finished, you may loose speech through the external 
sound card. if so, unplug the sound card. you may now be able to use the 
Mac's internal sound, if not, just reinsert the external sound card and 
it should now work again.

OK, now its time to install the boot camp drivers from your USB drive.
For me, I got an error that this program is not compatible with this 
computer.

so I had to go into the drivers folder and install each driver individually.
I did not install the real tech audio drivers because the sound driver 
is working fine for me.

Now, I bet you are wondering how to choose windows or Mac to boot.
here is how I do it.
start the Mac.
at the mac startup sound, press and hold the Option key for about 12 
seconds.

now this will vary from Mac to Mac.
here is what I do.

I press right arrow then enter to start windows
or
left arrow then enter to start the recovery drive.
so that means the the Mac hard drive is in the middle.
Once logged on the Mac, go back to startup disk preferences and choose 
the mac hard drive as the startup disk.

Note, after doing this, the left and right arrow selection above may change.
You will have to experiment.

I'm sorry, I ment that viewing your favorites and playlists is no longer 
possible.

Its probably due to YouTube restrictions.
You still can download.
I have a license, so not sure if this new version requires it or not.
If you ask him nicely, he will give you a license.

Why not use the Win7 PE Disk?
It has NVDA, and talks you through the install.
it even contains setup files for all the Windows 7 installs.
you will need a USB sound card to hear NVDA while installing Windows 7.

The program with the X in the name, macxdvdripper,  has a lot of 
unlabeled buttons.
there is a free version, and a pro version. the pro version is needed to 
rip copy protected DVD's.
I was able to label about 3 buttons using the voice over help. but there 
are a lot more buttons that I dont know what they are.

I did get my DVD ripped by pressing a few buttons. so it is usable.
I like the feature of ripping the audio to mp3.
Mabey if we contacted the developers, they would label the buttons.
I prefer the MacDvDRipper Pro. it is not free, but you get 5 rips for 
free. and its very voice over friendly.

Yes, Before clicking rip, there is a  button to the left of the rip button.
it will say add second action.
click it to add the second episode.
do the same steps to add all episodes before clicking the rip button.
But lets first choose the first episode.
You will know the episodes by the time.
most TV shows are about 25 minutes long.
After choosing rip and convert, the next pop up button is the list of 
videos, or episodes.

You will have to manually choose
each episode. meaning, if there are 8 episodes, you will have to add 8  
actions before clicking the rip button.

OK,

I still have not found a good solution to copy a 8tb dvd to a 4gb dvd.
as of now. I use Mac DVD Ripper to convert to m4v so I can watch my 
movies on my Apple TV.
When I want to burn a copy of the DVD, I'm going to purchase some 8gb 
dvd's. they are not that exspensive, because I have a USB external 
Double layer drive.
Here is another question, Is there a accessible m4v to DVD converter for 
the Mac?

Free would be nice.

Mabey someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the smb on the 
beginning of the IP address is needed when connecting to a windows 
machine or network storage drive.
The instructions that came with my wireless router said to use smb when 
connecting from a Mac.

You can try it without the smb and see if it works.
Are you connecting to a NAS or another computer?
Let us know if it works.

nas.  I’m just using an ftp server for testing.  You would want to 
use something like mount_afp or mount_smbfs.  You can look at the 
man page and play around with it.  The automator app is probably 
the easiest option though.

Hi,
You can save the file anywhere. I chose to save it to applications, 
since its a app.

Just open the app with command+O, or command+down arrow.
But the reason I needed this script to be in the app format is to add it 
to the logg  on apps in the system prefs/users

That way the drive is automatically mounted when the Mac boots.
Another good use for the app is to put it on the desktop for easy and 
quick way of mounting the drive when you need it.
Mabey someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the smb on the 
beginning of the IP address is needed when connecting to a windows 
machine or network storage drive.

After you paste the text of the script into the apple script editor,
go to the file menu then to export.
here you can name the script and choose the format to be .app.
If you need more help. let me know.

Audio Hijack 3 another question

Hello,
For some unknown reason, I cant get audio hijack to record sounds such 
as the empty trash and the new mail sounds.

I was using the system audio session.
Under hidden processes, I saw com.apple.audio.
is this needed to record these sounds?
I thought all sounds would be included in the system audio session.

Audio Hijack 3 help

Hi,
I can not figure out how to get one mp3 file of all my sources, wich is:
1 Apple.com speech
2  voice over
3 microphone
4 system audio.
I have it set to create 4 mp3 files. but how do I get a mix of all 
recordings into one mp3 file?

as of now, I use audacity to combine the 4 tracks into 1.
I read the emails from Dorcy, Johnathan, and Alex. But I cant seem to 
get it to work.

If you select text,
press VO+Shift+M,
there is a option to add to iTunes as spoken text.
I dont like having to open iTunes and delete the track from my music, 
but its better than nothing.

Syncing files

Hi everyone.  Is there an accessible program to synchronize files from a Mac to 
a NAS Drive? I have been previously using Sync Toy in Windows to sync files 
from the NAS drive to an external drive.  Is there an accessible app for the

Logging into windows just to turn around and log in to the mac and vice 
versa is too much.

here is a quicker way.
Here is the steps I used.
when I start the mac normally, windows would start.
Here is how to choose the drive you want.
Start your Mac, at the sound press and hold the option key about 10 seconds.
For me, windows was listed first of the three drives.

1 windows
2 recovery
3 Mac.
to select the Mac drive, I would press left arrow then enter,
or
press right arrow once for recovery and right arrow again for Mac.
the reason for this is windows is the first choice and is selected. 
pressing left arrow will wrap around to choice 3 which is the Mac.


I hope this helps.
and if your drives are listed differently. you will have to experiment a 
little.

creating podcast feed, was Finder Podcast Part 1

A while back, I posted a message about creating a podcast feed 
automatically using folder actions.

Well, after trying, I could not get it to work.
so I whent back to the drawing board and found a web site that will 
generate the feed for you.

All you have to do is register for a free account.
enter the link to your podcast files add titles and descriptions then 
download the feed that it will generate.
Now upload the feed to your web site that hosts your podcast and you are 
ready.

I have been testing DropBox to host my podcast and so far its going well.

The App store has it for $23.
It is now open source. I dont understand why it is so pricey in the app 
store.

But my question is, is this app worth the trouble of installing Java?

Slow response on network drive

Hello.  I have a WD MyBook Live Duo network drive.  I have very slow response 
time when opening folders when using my MacBook Pro mid 2010 model. I have fast 
response when accessing the drive from a Windows machine or with Windows 7 
running under VMWare Fusion on my MaCBook.  Does anyone have any ideas?  I left 
the MyBook drive formatted as NTFS so it is accessible from both Windows and 
Mac.  I also have the NTFS app from Paragon so I can write to NTFS drives from 
the Mac.

I did not press anything, after a little while, BoiceOver started 
talking I unlocked my iPhone and Apple TV received my wi-fi settings.

I too have upgraded to Yosemite and have a few problems.
I'm running a 2009 MacBook with 4GB of ram.
I have not had a problem with lag,
But when I press command cama to open finder preferences, it says finder 
has no windows.

I get the same thing if I choose preferences from the finder menu.
Another problen I'm having is with Google Chrome.
It will not let me interact with html content.
I did a disk permissions repair and rebooted with no luck.
Note this was a upgrade, because I did not have a 8GB drive to create an 
installer.

My last problem is sometimes it is very hard to get to the desktop.
pressing the F11 key says desktop, but the arrow keys produces a ding sound.
I get the same results with VO+Shift+D.
sometimes it will work if I press VO+F1 twice, and choose desktop.
So far, these are the only bugs for me.

here are two.
1. get someone to drag and drop the list of selected messages to a 
folder. I used DropBox.

the Mac will read the .eml format.
or, 2. open each email and choose save as...
and once all mail is saved to a folder, transfer the folder to the Mac.

Skipping ads on YouTube was mactubes question

The way I solved the problems with ads on YouTube was to use the 
VoiceOver Hot Spots.

1. find the skip ad button
2 press VO Shift 1
that sets the hot spot to slot 1.
to access it, press VO 1.
Now whenever video ads start playing, press VO+1.
I discovered this a few days ago. it works great for me.

results from others on the list.  I had the opportunity to borrow a Nokia phone 
with the old KNFB app 4 or 5 years ago and was only ever able to get a few 
words from a page.  I was able to sit at the kitchen table and sort the mail 
just after buying the new app. It is definitely better than the old app since 
the field of view report and the tilt notification are a great help in lining 
up the camera.  I will add that I had not been able to get good results with 
the other OCR apps for the iPhone since I was horrible at lining up the camera. 
 It really seems that they did a great job on writing an app which compensates 
for blind users.
 I plan to try more documents today.

Hi,
I just wanted to say that iTools does not strip out mp3 tags.
Ray said he used iTunes to tag his music, I have found that doing so only lets 
iTunes see the tags. meaning, other programs will not see the tags. so you 
falsely blamed iTools for removing the tags.

ITunes never worked for me.  The more I tried it, the more it broke.  I

1.  Easy Music converter.  From the Mac app store.  This app, (though
not free) does provide an exelent encoder for .4ma and has fewer
audible artifacts than most third party .4ma encoders.  Some meta data
tagging is offered here too.

2.  Burn.  For CD burning, this is an exelent third party tool and is
very straight forward and easy to use.  Also, simly Burns should not
be overlooked as it is also fully accessible and is very similar in
ability.

3.  For CD wripping, Max is the way to go.  It too is fully
accessible.  Though a little dated by now, it still serves as an
exelent wripper and even has .4ma encoding and I believe offers some
meta data tagging.

4.  Finally, for actually transfering all that stuff back and forth,
iTools.

5.  Want all four solutions wrapped in to one?  Then stay with iTunes.

AppleVis.com doing a demo of installing BootCamp.
and below is what I did to install windows 7 bootcamp.
Things you will need.
1. USB drive to download the windows bootcamp drivers
2. windows install DVD
3. windows 7 talking PE disk from www.bryansmart.com
the mega disk contains the NVDA screen reader and all windows 7 installers.
4. you want be able to hear NVDA before installing the windows bootcamp 
drivers, so you will need a external USB sound card.

I found one at WalMart for about $10.


Dear List,
I solved the problem of BootCamp not creating a partition & asking for 
the windows 7 install disk.
I downloaded a windows 7 ISo and put it in my DVD drive. that allowed 
BootCamp  to continue to create the partition.
the mac rebooted before I could eject the win7 install disk. so it 
loaded the install disk and the only way I could eject it was to restart 
the mac and hold the option key at the mac startup sound. I then could 
eject the disk and insert the win 7 PE talking install disk.once I 
restarted the mac NVDA came up talking and I was able to install windows 7.

My $10 external Sabrent sound card from WalMart worked great.

Hi,
When I installed BootCamp, it became listed as 1 of 3.
for example, when I boot, after hearing the apple startup sound, I hold 
the option key for about 14 seconds then release it.

the choose drive screen is loaded.
From left to right there are three options to choose.
the first if BootCamp
second is recovery
and the third is Mac.
Since my Mac is setup to start in the Mac OS, the third option is 
selected. so I press the right arrow once to move from the third option 
to the first option wich is windows boot camp.

Or I can press left arrow once to get to the recovery drive.
Its really easy to do.

BootCamp?

Hi,
Is there a way to add more disk space to bootcamp? or do I have to 
delete it and start over?
And if I delete the BootCamp partition, will the free space be 
automatically put back on the main partition?

Fire Wire drive ports not identified in the System configuration utility

I have been running Mavericks since it's release.  I have a WD firewire  drive. 
 The utility says that I have no firewire ports.  I am still able to access my 
backups using USB but would prefer to use the firewire port.  Will I need to do 
a clean install or is there a way to get the firewire drivers back?  Thanks of

Update Urgent help with BootCamp needed

Dear List,
I solved the problem of BootCamp not creating a partition & asking for 
the windows 7 install disk.
I downloaded a windows 7 ISo and put it in my DVD drive. that allowed 
BootCamp  to continue to create the partition.
the mac rebooted before I could eject the win7 install disk. so it 
loaded the install disk and the only way I could eject it was to restart 
the mac and hold the option key at the mac startup sound. I then could 
eject the disk and insert the win 7 PE talking install disk.once I 
restarted the mac NVDA came up talking and I was able to install windows 7.

My $10 external Sabrent sound card from WalMart worked great.
Now I have another problem,
I got an error when trying to install the BootCamp drivers on windows 7.
it said BootCamp x64 not compatible with this computer.
I may not be wording it exactly, but it was simmular.
any ideas?
so for now, I am using the external sound card. so far, everything else 
seems OK.

I listen to the Podcast by Armondo, but My version of BootCamp is 
completely different.
When I started the bootcamp assistant, I had  two choices, 1. download 
the bootcamp win7 drivers

and
2. install win7.
Armondo had three choices I have only 2.

then $19.

What do you think?
I'm not looking for the best sound, just a external sound card to use in

You must have been in a hurry and didn't read my entire message.
DeTunes allows you to copy music from the iPhone and saves it to the Mac.
I was asking if any of you have tried it.
if your Mac crashed or was stolen, you could replace all your music to 
your new Mac from your iPhone or iPod.

Using Disk Utility, you should be able to do the following without losing data:

1.  Make sure that you have backed up important data on your drive.
2.  Make sure that your second partition is empty.
3.  In Disk Utility, in the list of disks, select the second partition, the one

5.  Press the Remove Partition button.

You should be presented with a dialog letting you know what's going to happen 
and to confirm.  Confirm if all is OK and wait for the process to complete.

noting how much space is available on your disk, how big the current partition 
is and entering that number in the partition size for the startup partition,

number of partitions as it will erase all current data.  Also note that 
resizing is possible live on the startup disk whereas changing the number of 
partitions is not.  I haven't exhaustively tested this but, it should work.  Be 
patient as some processes take time especially when dealing with the live 
startup volume.

urgent help needed with partitions

Well, I have got myself in a jam.
I created a partition on my MacBook called Mac...HD2.
and now I cant remove the partition and go back to just 1 partition.
Please tell me there is a way to remove the 2nd partition.

Can I dual boot with Mavrick?

Hello,
is it possible to install Mavrick on a partition of the startup drive? 
so I can choose to run Mountain Lion or Mavrick?

Or could Mavrick be run from a external drive?
I want to try Mavrick without disturbing Mountain Lion.
