Re: Very strange issue after update to SL, Please help

2011-01-04 Thread rayna424
According to this article from Apple:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1452?viewlocale=en_US

The upgrade to Snow included the permissions repair. It also states
that repairing permissions now will only repair Snow, so to go back
and repair Leopard, you need the disk. But, since the upgrade repaired
permissions, I don't think that's the issue, unless something was
carried over from Leopard. The issue did not occur in Leopard,
however.

For now, things are running smoothly and incredibly fast. I just have
the very occasional incident of not being able to edit text on a
website. Restarting VO takes care of it. It must be something buggy
with the VO on my Macbook. It's the only conclusion I'm drawing. Since
I know how to get around it for now, things are fine.

Thanks for the help everyone!

Ok, thanks for the suggestions. I'll give this a try.

Can anyone explain what repairing permissions means?

Thanks!

I was hoping to wake up and find a solution here lol! Is everyone as
lost as I am? If you've never heard of this or have no idea, do you
have any idea of what I might try? Should I bother calling Apple?
Their people don't seem to know much about VO. Should I just be
grateful that for now, restarting VO solves the problem?

Thanks for any possible ideas...

Re: Very strange issue after update to SL, Please help

2011-01-02 Thread rayna424
Hi there,

Yes, some updates were run right after the installation was complete,
but then the Macbook freaked out so I don't know for sure if they
took. I don't believe there was a Safari update, but I'll go check for
updates now.

I remember one thing; it said it would start setup assistent right
after the Macbook restarted, but then the Welcome to Voiceover thing
happened, and there never was a setup assistent. In recent items,
setup assistent was listed, but would not start. I don't know if
that's an issue, but I keep remembering it.

Very strange issue after update to SL, Please help

2011-01-02 Thread rayna424
Hi folks,

I upgraded to Snow Leopard Friday from Leopard, on my two year old
Macbook.

I did not do a clean install. I installed over Leopard after doing a
backup with Time Machine.

Everything seemed ok except I kept getting "stuck" in the dock, but
that issue seems to have resolved itself after I realized the dock had
changed a little with the upgrade. The main thing I'm noticing now is
that quite suddenly on certain websites, I cannot enter text in a text
edit field. I couldn't even enter text to search the archives here.
Then suddenly, it'll be fine. One time, just turning on my wireless
keyboard allowed me to type in a text edit field. This is only in
Safari. No other applications are effected.

I have tried the following: Turned off VO then had my sighted
boyfriend use the mouse curser to get to a spot I could not type in,
and he was able to enter text. When I turned VO back on, I could read
what he typed and delete it and type there.

After that I realized if I restart VO, I can type. But I might go to
another page and not be able to.

Since my boyfriend was able to enter text, I thought it must be a VO
issue. I restored VO back to its factory settings and that did not
solve the issue. The mouse curser is turned off. I tried unchecking
"Voiceover follows keyboard focus" and vice versa, in Voiceover
utility but this did nothing.

I had some funky issues with VO before the upgrade, like it never kept
my rate setting after waking the computer. At one point, Alex wouldn't
even talk for the longest time after waking, so I turned him off
before putting the computer to sleep every time. Those issues have
stopped with the upgrade.

Sometimes now, after the upgrade, when I restart VO, it wants to walk
me through using it. I have to press V to shut it up. This isn't every
time though, only after waking it. If I do it multiple times, it
doesn't ask me to learn it, only the first time I might restart after
starting VO.

>From everyone I've talked to, it's looking like a clean install would
be best. I'd like to avoid that if possible, but I'm finding nothing
about any of this.

Another suggestion was to create another user and see if the issues
are in that user also, but I think that might be redundant now since I
just restored VO and basically, that's what creating a new user would
do.

Is this crazy? Any suggestions? Thoughts? Help?

Haha...thanks in advance...

PS - Aside from this, Snow Leopard is pretty freaking cool. :)

Hmmm, so you're saying the iPod Touch is better than the Nano 6th gen?
I don't do anything with iPods other than listen to music and books. I
like the 5th gen because of the built in speaker. It's awesome for
reading in bed. Not sure if the 6th gen has it. You have to pay for
something to use the Touch? I've never been clear on how that accesses
the internet, or why I'd want it when I have a laptop. I do some
commuting though. What do you have to buy to use the internet on it
when you're on the bus? Hmmm now I've opened a can of worms when I
was just curious about the 6th gen haha!! Maybe I should get a touch
since I can't get an iPhone since I won't switch cell providers.

Safari Update

2010-06-22 Thread rayna424
Hey all,

Haven't had any problems, so haven't needed to post. I searched to see
how ya'll were feeling about the latest Safari update, and it seems
I'm not alone. Safari keeps freaking out when I navigate by headers on
certain sites, and it's really freaking out with Blogger now. When I
interact with text, I can't use command up arrow and down arrow to get
from top to bottom, and when I'm interacting, it won't let me go line
by line in a text edit field. So the only way to edit is to go word by
word. Also, when I click the "select all" link for labels, Safari dies
and I have to restart it. Every time. So I don't do that anymore and
I've started composing blogs in text edit.

This takes me back to being afraid to install Windows updates. I'm
still using Leopard. Is anyone having problems with the latest Safari
in Snow?

Just had to complain. I send the error reports to Apple every time
since at least with Apple, I have faith that they are listening.

Thanks!

Hmmm. Well since you're saying the problem occured because I might

Everything still appears to be on the computer. It looks as though
iTunes just got lost. So, I guess that's what I need to fix, but I'm
totally braindead now, so I'll check in here tomorrow and see if there
are posts.

iTunes lost all my stuff

2010-02-07 Thread rayna424
Hi all,

I am restraining myself from calling Apple until tomorrow. I just did
the latest iTunes software update, and when it was done, it asked me
to pick a library. Huh? I think I just selected music. Well, all my
stuff is gone. All of it. Gone. I'm freaking out and have shut down
iTunes until I calm down and/or hopefully get some answers. If you
have any ideas, please, please tell me. I have all my stuff on my
iPods, but not on a hard back up.

Thanks...

Re: ITunes "store" and "Itunes Store"

2010-01-19 Thread rayna424
I think the first "store" is like a heading. It's in all caps. Right
below "iTunes store" is "purchased, store playlist" so I think the
first "store" is like a category thing. If you stop interacting with
the table while focusing on "store" and then interact with the table
again, the focus is on "iTunes store". I don't think there is much of
a real purpose, but I've wondered this myself :)

iPod Nano 5g video recorder

2010-01-19 Thread rayna424
Hi everyone,

Has anyone tried the video recorder in the new iPod Nano 5g? I just
ordered it. It sounds like it whould be accessible, with spoken menus
turned on. The tutorial said you just scroll to video recorder and use
the center button to start and stop. I don't know how I'll do shooting
video blind, but I'm getting a guide dog and want to get video and
audio. I did a search but didn't find any discussions. Has anyone
tried this?

Thanks!

Re: Voiceover won't auto-read mail messages

2009-09-08 Thread rayna424

Hi Christina!

I don't have a solution, but I wanted to welcome you to to this group.
I've probably learned 80 percent of what i know about VO from this
board. I haven't upgraded yet, because I'm scared and want to find out
some stuff first from people who have upgraded. I didn't even know you
could read messages in Mail that way. I always stop interacting with
the messages table, and then interact with the message content scroll
area, and then it reads the whole message. Is there something in mail
preferences? Probably not, since those aren't VO preferences huh. I
hope you get it figured out, and again, welcome! This group are
experts!!

Cheers,

Your opinions on Snow Leopard

2009-09-08 Thread rayna424

Hi all,

I am terrified of upgrading. My Macbook is my first experience with a
screeneader, and I've taught myself by trial and error and by reading
this board. I would like your opinions before I upgrade.

Have the commands changed? Is it still basically the same with some
new funtions? Will I be totally lost? Have you run into any annoying
problems? Are you able to do everything you did before? Was the
installation fairly easy?

I would really like your help in easing my fears. Apple and VO have
brought the internet and technology back to me since losing my vision,
and I'm terribly afraid of change...

Thanks,

Re: New Os or not?

2009-08-24 Thread rayna424

I too, am nervous. Especially since VO is my first screenreader, and
it took awhile to learn it. I never buy tech toys when they're brand
new; I usually wait to see what others think. I think I'll do this
with SL too, just to kind of have some info before I take the plunge.
It was discussed earlier, and it sounds like VO will run right from
the start, to walk us through set up. Scary though :)

Question about reading this group on web only

2009-08-24 Thread rayna424

Hi all,

I choose to read this board on the web only, so my email isn't
clogged, and because I don't read every topic. It becomes difficult to
find a topic I've posted in, because it doesn't seem to keep messages
on top in accordance to replies. I tried "clicking the star to watch
topic", hoping it would keep watched messages on top, but it doesn't
seem to do anything. Does anyone have any suggestions for easier
access?

Re: say it's not so apple

Wow, yeah I seriously doubt that Apple would force us to use
something. This reminds me of having the option of doing group or dom

why I'm going to wait to by SL until I see what others say. I'm
terrified of it working totally differently and having to relearn it

Hi ladies,

Ok, this is helpful. But, my dad had seaid something about creating a
playlist with all songs beginning with "T" or the like. I thought it
would be fun to create a playlist with all number 4 tracks...just to
see what comes up, what gets combined. I don't necessarily want the
same genre or artist, ya know? So I still can't see how to do this.
All these fields are just confusing...I think I need to play with it,

I know I'm asking lots of iTunes/iPod questions, but I get the most

Re: Victor Reader and really really need help with iPod

2009-08-21 Thread rayna424

Hi and thanks so much, both of you.

Ok so, I was playing around last night waiting for replies haha, and
managed to find how to change the voice, but the rate doesn't seem to
change. I can live with that.

I gound the list on the ipod thanks to your reply. My problem now is
that I'm stuck with what ou mean about when focused on the music, and
then VO right to auto fill or something? That this will let me to copy
to iPod? I'm not getting that...I think I'll end up copying from the
songs table, because that seems easiest. But, how can I copy more than
one song at a time? So, in the songs table, how can I select more than
one song to copy?

I think I'm getting closer :) I think once I figure out how to
copy playlists or multiple songs, I've got it. For example, I've got a
playlist called "girls". So, how do I copy the whole playlist? That
is where I'm confused.

Re: Victor Reader and really really need help with iPod

2009-08-20 Thread rayna424

Hi oh and thank you!! Ok, I have selected manually manage music, did
that a few days ago. So, if I sync though, to add stuff, will I lose
whats on it? How do I add stuff to it? I've never used an ipod before.
I can locate it just fine, and have the manually manage music
selected. Where do I go from here?

Is there anyway to see whats on the iPod and delete stuff at all? I
can't seem to do that. There's some stuff on there I don't want to
keep on it.

As for the update, its good to know it took awhile and that you didn't
know if anything was happening. It just says status or something, but
doesn't say anything. I'll try updating it too.

Can you just walk me through how to add a playlist or podcasts to it
without losing whats on it?

Thank you thank you! And thanks for the info on Victor; I saw it
today at the center and fell in absolute and total love!

Thanks,
Randi

Victor Reader and really really need help with iPod

2009-08-20 Thread rayna424

Hi all,

Quick question on Victor Reader...is it compatible with Mac?

On iPod, I got a nano before my macbook. I hooked it up, had auto sync
off, so didn't lose whats on it. But I can't do anything with it aside
from listen. If I try to add anything, I'll lose whats on it. Also, I
need to change the voice but can't find where to do that. Also, it
keeps saying there are updates for the iPod, but when I select update,
it freezes and does nothing.

Do I just need another iPod? Am I out of luck with this one, since my
friend did stuff to it on his Mac? Help? Please?

Oh and do you know how to import the stuff from the pod to iTunes? I
selected that, and it said there was trouble with some of it, but that
it imported some of it. I'm so confused...

Thanks,
Randi

Getting songs off an iPod

Hi all,

I was given an iPod Nano before I got my Macbook. I haven't done

put the songs on it int my iTunes library. I've heard you need skip
for mac or something or other to do this.

I also don't want it to delete everything if I hook it up. I've turned
off auto sinc in iTunes. I'd like to start using the iPod, keep whats
on it, add to it, put whats on it into mylibrary. Any suggestions?

Re: Safari Sounds

2009-08-06 Thread rayna424

Yes yes yes. I have been noticing this as of late. Its not with any
specific web page. It seems to happen at random. I'm so used to
hearing the page load sound, that I don't hear it and think my
internet is being slow. I just now turned on group mode to play with
it, and its not playing loading sounds it all, it seems. You are not
the only one noticing this.

Re: when closing lid

2009-08-06 Thread rayna424

This is odd...I have about 9 bump dots on my keys and this never
happens to me. However, I got in the habit of putting it to sleep
before shutting the lid...I just hit the power button once quickly and
then select "sleep". It sleeps and then I close the lid. I don't think
this would make a difference though...again, strange. some of my dots
are kinda tall, but they never interfere with sleeping.

To those who use Group Mode please

2009-08-06 Thread rayna424

Hi all,

I had an earlier thread about group mode, asking exactly what its for,
what things change when you use it, and how to turn it on. The only
thing discussed was if there would be a short cut to this in SL.

So, if you use group mode, and you respond? I'm afraid to switch to it
if there are a lot of changes causing me not to get back to the
original mode. Any experience with group mode is appreciated, and/or
links to articles about it. I'd really appreciate it...

Thanks,

Re: google voice problem resolved

2009-08-06 Thread rayna424

This isn't directly related to Google talk or whatever, but in
response to not finding the continue button.

I had this problem on mlb.com, trying to sign in to use Gameday audio.
There was no 'continue" or "submit" button anywhere and I even called
customer service. She could see the button, my boyfriend could see it,
but VO did not. Finally I just entered the information and hit return
and voila. it worked. There is no need on mlb.com anyway to find the
submit button, because just hitting return works fine. Maybe that
would work with this too?

Just a thought.

Re: waiting for my macbook

2009-08-04 Thread rayna424

Hi there,

I don't know if you have used a Mac before or if this is your first,
so just in case you haven't, I'll explain that way.

The Apple key is the Command key, located to the left of the space
bar. With the Macbook, you'll need to use Function as well. So to turn
on Voiceover after the computer starts up, press Command plus
Function, plus F5. The function key is the key on the bottom left
corner, 2 keys over from your command key. You will hear "Voiceover
on". It's already read to go, no installation of the screenreader
necessary.

Group mode? safeway.com, Facebook?

2009-08-04 Thread rayna424

Hi all,

A few months back, someone suggested group mode to navigate sites like
Facebook. I was too scared to try it. Now I'm ready.

I use m.facebook.com but its so limited. I also just signed up for
home grocery delivery at safeway.com, but I have to use the accessible
site, because VO just wouldn't handle the frames.

Does anyone use safeway.com for home delivery? And, can you guys tell
me more about group mode, how to get into it, how its different?

Thanks a million!

Ok yes, that helps. I think I understand about holding down C, but
didn't know why it couldn't be done just like any other program. In

Oh dear, lol! Ok, I've never upgraded an OS, period, ever. I was a
Windows user before I went blind, but I just bought new computers. I
switched to Mac when I went blind, so this is all new to me. Hold down
the C key when booting? So I don't just insert the cd with the macbook
on? This outta be interesting haha. Well now that I know I can do it,
I'll go ahead and preorder. I'll cross the installation bridge when I
come to it. ;)

Snow Leopard pre-order

2009-08-03 Thread rayna424

Hi all,

I just received an email from amazon telling me I can pre-order Snow
Leopard for $29. I didn't know we were so close to getting it! I am
going to pre-order, and I have a question.

I haven't upgraded an OS yet. Is this something I will be able to do
on my own? How does it work? When I go to install, will VO work to
tell me what is happening? Any pointers from those who have done an
upgrade will be greatly appreciated!
 Thanks,
Rayna

Re: Adding e-mail addresses in address book?

Excellent. I was popping in to ask this very question, and here it
was. I haven't really had to worry about it too much, because in
typing an address or name, it auto fills, but only if I've previously
written the person. I spent about an hour trying to find a way to add
a friend's address and finally just stuck it in a blank field to keep
it. This helps a lot. Thanks guys!

Re: Ghost in my Mail program? This is odd.

2009-05-17 Thread rayna424

Oh I know what I did, my phone has a QWERTY keyboard, and the 5 key
corresponds with the D, so the D has a bump, like the F on my Mac, so
I did the reply command wrong, pressing F, instead of D. Much easier
to use the shortcuts to send then find the menu. I think I do like the
mail program, especially the message contents scroll area reading the
whole message. Sweet. I'm so glad so many of you suggested the mail
program.

Thanks,
Randi

Re: Ghost in my Mail program? This is odd.

2009-05-17 Thread rayna424

Ok great, I will use Command W. As far as the ghost, mail didn't have
anything from my old gmail, and my new gmail never talked to my old
one. I know I never told mail to talk to gmail, so I have no idea how
this happened. I wanted to do the pop thing myself haha. I think I'll
call Apple and ask them. I think I'll like mail too, but for right now
I'm not quite understanding it.There aren't buttons for send and
stuff, so I assume I need ommands. I'm sure I'll learn it quickly.

Thanks,
Randi

Ghost in my Mail program? This is odd.

2009-05-17 Thread rayna424

Hi all. I was intrigued with the mail program, so I was going to
import my gmail pop address into it, and play with it while still
keeping it online too. I opened up mail, and everything I've ever sent
or received was in there, for my current gmail address. thi is odd,
because when I bought the computer, I had a different email address
that I gave them at the store. But I couldn't remember the password
for it, so I set up my current one, but never did anything with the
mail program. So how, on earth, did Mail know what my gmail account
is, if I never told it? I'm not complaining, because now I get a sound
for new emails. I'm still primarily using web based because I've got
to learn the mail program. But since I finally figured out link
chooser, that is easier. Does anyone know what ghost talked to my mail
program? Also, does anyone have a link to a tutorial on the mail
program? I've got some message windows open that I don't know how to
close lol. Quitting the program doesn't close the windows.

Thanks,
Randi

Re: Can't get to latest messages in thread

2009-05-12 Thread rayna424

Hi Dan,

I've had several people suggest this. I used gmail when I could see,
so I'm pretty used to it. I'm getting inrigued though. Do you know if
the mail program shows the messages the same way web based does? In
the web based, the messages appear in conversations, so they're all
grouped together. I like that.

I do like the fact that the mail program notifies of new emails. Gmail
has a notifier, but I don't know if it would work with Voiceover.

Ok found your post using that archive thing. I like reading it here
because I can forward messages I want to my inbox. Here, meaning
online Google group. I wonder if there's a way of letting someone know
that once a ghread count increases 25, the rest of the messages aren't
shown on the Google group.

Odd indeed haha. Maybe I'm the only one who likes reading online at
the google group.

Thanks Esther! I figured out all the playlist stuff, but your tip
about moving multiple songs will be helpful, for sure. Smilie.

Re: More Help with iTuenes, was, Help with iTunes

2009-05-11 Thread rayna424

Nice. Well I've mastered creating playlists and moving stuff to them.
The only thing I didn't figure out was how to move a whole album to a
playlist. Example, I created a classical list, and moved 50 Essential
pieces of classical music, one by one. It was good practice, but for
future, is there a way to move a whole album? I know you can create a
list from the browser under albums, but for the purpupose of say,
having a musicals list, being able to move an entire musical. I guess
that's not too necessary, since having a list for each musical is fine
too.

I think I've got the basics thatnks to ya'll! As for using B or M to
buy, I learned M first so I think for now I'll stick to that haha.

This is wonderful! Thank you all so much!

when I first downloaded an album, I was able to access a list of
albums, but now I don't remember how I did it.

So here's what I want to do for now, I want to make a classical list,
and add 3 albums to it. Then, I want to make a songs list, and I'll
have 2 albums and a few songs to add to it for right now. Can you walk
me through step by step how I'd do this? I like the VO shift M way of
doing it. In that menu, it will give me an option to add to a
playlist?

This is really really great information guys! I think I'll get one of
those Voiceover podcasts too. I don't know all my commands yet, so its
kinda like trying to read a brail book before knowing all the letters
lol.

Thanks!!
Randi

2009-05-10 Thread rayna424

Alrighty then, VO shift and M worked like a charm. Finally got the
song haha. Thank you thank you! Next step is learning how to make
playlists and organize the music the way I want. The website Esther
gave me makes it sound really complicated, and thats for itunes
seven. Any pointers for me? I think I've mastered the store. Though
the two podcasts I tried failed in downloading so that was
disappointing haha.

I had given up and walked away. So glad I looked here again.

Re: More Help with iTuenes, was, Help with iTunes

2009-05-10 Thread rayna424

I'm confused.

So it's VO shift and M on the price, not VO shift space?

So to refiew, I search, then interact with songs list, get to where it
says price, and do VO shift M?

Most other voiceover commands are over my head, as I'm still new, only
doing this since December. So nursery school directions are needed to
explain things to me lol.

Do you know why albums are so much easier? I've already gotten 3
because there's a nice easy button that says, buy now. Why don't they
have that for songs?

Man, learning brail is easier than itunes haha.

Thanks,

2009-05-10 Thread rayna424

Hello everyone. Mark helped me figure out search, so I have found and
downloaded some stuff. How though, do you crate a playlist? I clicked
on create a playlist, and the fields made no sense. I got a bunch of
classical stuff that I want to put in a folder. Also, is there an easy
way to get just single song? I searched for a song I wanted and had to
click around a few links to get to just the song and not the whole
album. I heard how much it was, and my boyfreind saw, buy now, but I
didn't hear that, and it wasn't a button. Could it just be that it
wasn't available? I'm sure there are podcasts on how to do this with
Voiceover, or an article or something. How would I search for
podcasts, I mean, what words would I enter? And does anyone know of a
good article?

Thanks, and iTunes rocks!! I got the 50 most essential pieces of
classical music for eleven bucks!! Sweet!

That must be how I did it. Suddenly there was a store link and I was
able to sign up. I was pressing everything and interacting with
everything, so it must have been sources that I interacted with haha!
Got it though, and was browsing books and couldn't figure out how to
get back to the store, so I quit interacting and that worked. Its
crazy when things suddenly work and you don't even know what you did
lol!! Thanks Dan. Perseverance paid off this time while I was waiting

Help with iTuenes

2009-05-09 Thread rayna424

Hi guys,

I haven't used iTunes yet since buying my macbook in December. I
opened it 2 days ago and it asked some preliminary set up questions
and opens what I assume is the player. I've looked all over it and
there's no way to access the store to do anything. I think I need a
crash course. One of the questions it asked was if I wanted to
download an upgrade and I didn't for some reason. Now I don't know how
to tell it to get the upgrade. Could this be the problem? Don't know
what to do with itunes. It doesn't make any sense haha.

Thanks,

Navigating by header

2009-05-02 Thread rayna424

Hi folks,

I'm learning my macbook and VO one thing at a time and its working
great. I've come much farther since my first post to this group haha.

Its time for me to start navigating by heading. How does this work,
what are the VO commands, and do you do this with pages you're
familiar with and then maybe go line by line on new pages?

I've been resting on my laurels and not trying anything new, so its
time to broaden my horizon. :) Thanks in advance, Randi

Re: Copying Text from a web page...

2009-05-02 Thread rayna424

Max, this is how I do it too. As Mark mentioned though, this doesn't
seem to work for larger areas of text. When I want to copy an entire
email, I hit reply so that the passage I want is in an edit text
field. Then I interact, select what I want and copy. Of course this
doesn't work if there isn't a way to put the text into an edit field.
Is Mark correct that VO just can't do this yet?

Thanks,
Randi

Can't register at mlb.com

2009-04-15 Thread rayna424

Hi guys. I want to register on mlb.com so I can purchase the Gameday
audio. Problem is, I can't access the register button. I called and
the lady on the phone said the register button is located after you
enter all the information, right after, "I want to recieve
newsletters" etc checked check box. She said there is a green button
to the right of that, but I do not hear "register button" or
anything.

Is this a Mac thing? Could anyone go there and try it? Its mlb.com and
then click register. Just scroll past all the info to enter and see if
there's a register button? Maybe there's something I need to do? Like
maybe its in a frame or something? I don't know how to see if there
are any frames.

I'm just seriously frustrated. I know other visually impaired people
use game day, and if its not mac accessible I think I'll scream.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Randi

I realize that, but I don't remember if I set up a password, therefore

Re: Poll Results

I hope its ok that I'm posting a reply here since everyone wants us to
shut up, but I'm new to this list and couldn't get in for a bit and
had no idea there was another list starting so is ok if I ask some
questions? If you don't want to read this, move on to another thread.
Sorry. I'm just not sure I even want to stay on this list, being a
newbie and not knowing the rules, and finding it helpful to read
other's posts. Anyway, simple question, if I'm automatically
subscribed to this new list, where can I find it? I, too, do not like
cluttered inboxes so I subscribe and read only online to avoid inbox
clutter. Therefore, I do not know where the new list is. On this new
list, since I missed all discussion and voting, will we be free to
post at will? If so I think I'll join that one and leave this one?
Sorry if I sound snarky, I just find people's posts helpful, yeah, one
liners are annoying but sometimes I find a helpful tip on the fourth
post down dot dot dot.

Feel free to answer my questions privately so as not to bother
people.

Thanks,

Ichat freezing and Alex sleepy?

2009-03-21 Thread rayna424

Man I couldn't get logged in here for a bit. Strange. Anyway, I'm
successfully chatting in ichat now, using AIM and I've got a strange
problem that occures. I'm going to try and explain and see if anyone
knows what might be happening.

I'm in a chat window and I type a message and hit enter. To get back
to where I can read the messages, I VO left arrow and it says html
content. I hit VO Shift down arrow to interact with html content. This
usually works just fine. But sometimes it goes silent and then says,
"welcome to macintosh, voiceover is running, finder, window, icon
view" which is what it always says when I turn on the computer. I just
VO down arrow again and it takes me back and I can read the messages.

Sometimes though, when I'm going too fast, when it goes silent if I
hit ay more keys, it'll freeze up ichat and any keys I hit just gets
me a busy, busy, busy. I have to shut down and restart.

I'll often be chatting in yahoo im too and it does not happen ever
with yahoo and I do the same thing to navigate between where I read
and where I type. Any thoughts?

Also, and this is probably just my crazy imagination. I've been
putting the macbook to sleep for a few days when I learned how haha.
Just now, when I opened it, my addressbook had been up and it then
read my ichat description, and I swear, Alex sounded sleepy. It
sounded as though his speech had been slowed down but I haven't
changed that. Then he sounded normal. Am I crazy? Did they actually
make him sound sleepy when he wakes up? I thought I was nuts when I
heard him breathe until I read that they did that on purpose to make
him sound more human.

Anyway, good to be back. I've learned a ton already from ya'll.

Thanks,
Randi

Oh PS, when ichat freezes, I only rstart ichat, not the macbook. And,
does anyone know how to retrieve the password? I tried doing the
system update but it asked for a password and I don't remember setting
up a password.

Re: VO says "busy"...

2009-03-05 Thread rayna424

I sure hope someone replies to this, as I've had it happen too.
Normally in Safari when I'm scrolling a lot it'll say busy and then
its ok. But yesterday in ichat it happend and would not stop so I quit
the app and started again. I'd like to know too, though I suspect its
just simply that its busy haha. At least it doesn't kill the whole
system like it would in Windows.

Re: Facebook users

2009-03-05 Thread rayna424

Ok, think I got it. Here:

http://universallydesigned.net/uncategorized/facebook-the-good-bad-and-the-ugly/

It took some searching to find her actual blog. She'ss a windows user
but she did talk about calling a support number. I'm not sure if she
gives the number, but maybe you can tontact her. The mobile facebook
site is at www.m.facebook.com

The best thing about having my sighted friend help was, you can select
an option to verify the account by text message so you never get the
captias again. So she was able to do the text for me.

Re: Facebook users

2009-03-05 Thread rayna424

I'm able to comment on my own status. H. Well if someone comments
I can comment back. I can't seem to access profiles though. Sometimes
I can just out of the blue and then other times I can't. That stupid
so and so added a photo or commented yada yada thing is pretty silly,
but so far the site is ok.

Richie, I got a post in my techie forum with a link to a blog where
someone said she called to get help setting up her account. I'll go
try and find the link. I'm in a brain fog today though, so I might get
lost in la la land. I had a sighted friend help me but it sounds like
there's a way to get help. I'll go look for the link now. Wish me
luck.

Re: Gmail notifier, anyone use?

2009-03-04 Thread rayna424

Oh so it must be something I need to set in settings or something. But
since gmail is web based, I don't think that would work.

Gmail users, what kind of sound does it make, not using the notifier?
Or did you have to set something?

So on the mac what kind of nose does gmail make without the notifier?
I still haven't figured it out. When I notice a strange noise, I check
for new mail but there isn't any.

Re: Facebook users

2009-03-03 Thread rayna424

Hi Esther. I ended up speaking to someone on the phone and we went
over the group mode thing. I think I'll wait on that until I get more
comfortable haha. I'm finding that learning this like pealing an
onion, and so far I've only taken off the thin dry outer coating haha.
At least after my phone conversation, all those VO keys you mentioned
made sense. I've learned some stuff from reading manuals and such, but
find that the best way for me is by playing. And talking directly on
the phone definitely makes more sense. I'll keep group mode in mind
for future reference though, for sure. Thanks for your help!
