MI A3 to A1 plots

1999-11-11 Thread Ey, Benjamin

Dear Listers,
I have a series of layouts created in A3 landscape. I would like to
transfer these 'plots' to fit on an A1 page. IE, 4 A3 Layouts to sit on
an A1 page. Could someone please tell me the easiest way to acheive
this. I have the following programs at my disposal:

Adobe Acrobat Version 4
Adobe Photoshop Version 5.0
CorelDraw Version 8.0
Microsoft Office '97.

I have tried using Acrobat distiller and then importing the resultant
PDF files into CorelDRAW, but I have had a problem here with resolution
- the graphics look fine in Acrobat, but once they come into CorelDRAW,
the resolution drops considerably and the result is fairly horrendous.
I'm sure this has been dealt with at some stage in the not too distant
past, but if someone could throw some light on the problem, it would be
much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Regards,

Ben.

MI RE: doqq files (BIL format)

1999-11-11 Thread Lepage, Mike L (Mike)** CTR **

Hey all. I got it working and this info may help others. It seems that you
need to add some lines to the hdr file for mapinfo.

the hdr file consists of the following
nrows 7586
ncols 6008
ulxmap 446398.00
ulymap 4442130.00
xdim 1.00
ydim 1.00
skipbytes 24032

You need to add the following lines to the bottom of the above or mapinfo
will give you a rastor error when loading. (info is for greyscale)
nbands 1
nbits 8
band_rgb 1 1 1

I used worldreg to register them. (Tony Cooley at Data Directions who sell
worldreg was able to give me this info)

I remember there were mails about this before but I deleted them. :( Can

Sometimes I get a Dr Watson with Crystal Reports - and THAT may be an NT
thing. Seems a little flaky at times but on the whole, I have my
reports going OK.

I am running v5.0 (or 5.01) and by the looks of all of the reports
stemming from those who have upgraded to 5.5, I am staying put. 5.0
seems eminently more stable.

MI Accessing Workspaces served by an NT Version 5.5

1999-11-11 Thread Michael Scott McGinn

Hello,

I'm having a problem.  When I access my Workspaces that I
have saved on my NT Server 4.0 with MI 5.5 running in server mode, they are not
showing up on the client machines attached to the network without recreating
each one.  I have 1 client attached which runs MI 4.5 on a Win
98.

I have saved my workspaces on the NT server using
5.5.

When I access them from the client I have to recreate each
workspace and save it from the client machine to be able to access it as a whole
workspace.

When I go back to the server to look at them I have to repeate
the same process and rebuild each work space which eliminates the ability for me
to go and see them on the client machine.

Is there away to avoid this irritating process? I have 1000's
of workspaces created on the server that I would have to do this to each time I
moved from the server to the
client to access them.

I also want to access this MI data from other clients attached
to the network as we add user machines to it.

MI Re: virtual city software

1999-11-11 Thread Tim Rood

Robert,
Re: Virtual City SW
A couple of years ago I tested a MI plug in called PAVAN. It plugs in to MI
like other external apps (say, Named Views) but it's much cooler. I used
it with local building footprint data and DEMs to recreate a 3D image of a
neighborhood I was working with. I never got to the draping of photos over
the building fronts and that sort of thing, but you could walk through the
image, look down from any height or angle, etc.
It worked by loading into MI and had it's own pull down menus that allow
you to set up the image you want. Then you compile the image and look at
it with a browser plug in called CosmoPlayer. The "real" application is to
get these images on web sites (thus the browser connection), but it's easy
to use "locally," too. The compiled image material is very compact in
size, allowing easy downloads for those web applications.
The person who worked on this is Steve Smith (Steve, you there?). He's
located in Wales and he was a pretty regular participant in this list for
quite a while. They had a web site, but I can't remember the URL this
minute. You'll be able to find it though, there aren't too many PAVANs out
there, I'm sure. If you're interested drop me a line and I'll find out
more about it by looking through my files.

Re: MI How to draw a hexagon in MapInfo?

1999-11-11 Thread Bill Thoen

How about drawing a six-sided buffer around the midpoint of your
line with a radius equal to one-half its length? This works well
if you aren't fussy about the orientation of the hexagon:

dim x,y as float
dim r as float
dim objHexagon as object

'calculate midpoint:
x = (x1 + cell.lon) / 2
y = (y1 + cell.lat) / 2

'determine radius:
r = distance (x1, y1, Cell.lon, cell.lat, "km") / 2

'Create the hexagon:
objHexagon = Buffer (CreatePoint(x,y), 6, r, "km")

If you want to draw a tesselation of heaxagons, and don't mind
spending $25 (but the downloadable samples are free), take a look
at: http://www.ctmap.com/gisnet/catalog/sw/hexgrid.html

Vedr: MI sql selecting text (partial)

1999-11-11 Thread pel

Hi Mike

Try using this the Instr() or Like() functions in your SQL

Select * from MyTab Where Instr(1, MyColm, "main") > 0

Or this

Select * from MyTab where Like(MyColm, %main%, "")

NB the Instr() and the Like() Functions are case-sensitive, in this exampel
it will only locate main but not Main or MAIN . If you will find both main
and MAIN try using the LCase$() function, like this

Select * from MyTab where Like(LCase$(MyColm), %main%, "")

All,

I have no problem with selecting text from a column with the sql, but I
find
that it has to be an exact match to return something.

Is there another select command or function where it would match to a part
of the text?

for example 1 main ave.
if I search for "main" it would return all the rows with "main" in it so I
don't have to worry about the ave or avenue type stuff.

thanks,

MI Saudia Arabia map data

1999-11-11 Thread Gareth Hardman

Guys and gals,

I am looking to obtain digital map data for Saudia Arabia - at
a nominal scale of at least 1:50,000. I would also be interested to hear if any
of you have any data of a greater scale for the Riyadh area. I would ideally
prefer this data in MapInfo .TAB format but would accept data in any of the
other major formats (e.g. ESRI .SHP). I would prefer vector data but would
accept raster if that was available

Please let me know if you have any data for this area and
at what scale. Please also let me know prices and modes of delivery. We need
this data fairly quickly so this data needs to be available now.

MI MapX newbie with Visual C++ problem

1999-11-11 Thread Mark Jones

Dear all,

I have a question regarding the use of MapX within
Visual C++. This is my first day of MapX programming so any assistance would be
greatly appreciated.

I have a problem passing non-variant types to Set Methods. For
example:

The DisplayCoordSys.Set method requires parameter 2, the Datum, to be
of VARIANT type. The problem is that Datums are represented by the
CMapXDatum class, but these can't be cast to COleVariant (part of MFC). How can
I set the datum property in DisplayCoordSys?

Many Thanks

Dear Mike

Yes Mapinfo offers two wildcards just like DOS.

The equivalent to DOS ? is _(underscore). ie represents 1 ( any 1 )
character.

The equivalent to * is %(per cent). This can represent from 0 to any
number of chars.

So if you search for %Main% you will get all of your Mains.

When MI does such a fuzzy search it cannot take advantage of indexes so
depending on your table size you might find this slower tan standard
searches.

Good Luck

MI sql selecting text (partial)

1999-11-11 Thread Lepage, Mike L (Mike)** CTR **

All,

I have no problem with selecting text from a column with the sql, but I find
that it has to be an exact match to return something.

Is there another select command or function where it would match to a part
of the text?

for example 1 main ave.
if I search for "main" it would return all the rows with "main" in it so I
don't have to worry about the ave or avenue type stuff.

thanks,

Re: MI MapImagery

1999-11-11 Thread Neil Moseley

G'day Maxine,

I have worked with this product since the early beta's and can give it a big
thumbs up.

It enables a clean system with only one format/set of image data required. Go
easy on the 'supersampling' setting as high values can result in slow/no
plotting. This feature was originally introduced as a clever fix to MapInfo's
past behaviour of dithering images to 256 colour when plotting.

I recently used MapImagery & ER Mapper compression to reduce 1200Mb of
orthophotos to 80Mb, with outstanding results & performance.

Answer:
In SQL Select dialog box, use the Where Condition: Str$(obj) = "text"

Re: MI - selecting text objects

1999-11-11 Thread Bob Young - www.bydesignwales.demon.co.uk

Dear Tom

In MapInfo run a query where:-

ObjectInfo(obj,1) = 10

put output into say WSAtext

then delete al in WSAtext which will also delete the records in the main
table.

If you use the above code in MapBasic then include "MapBasic.def"

then you can select with
ObjectInfo(obj,OBJ_INFO_TYPE) = OBJ_TYPE_TEXT

The MapBasic.def defines the values as 1 and 10. In MapInfo you have to
use the numbers.

1999-11-11 Thread PERRY Chris

Tom,

Assuming your MApInfo table is called YOUR_TABLE , Just use the SQL Select
function (Query > SQL Select):

Select *
>From YOUR_TABLE
Where Str$(obj)="text"

And that's all there is to it. You can do the same for line, polyline,
region, point, etc

Hope this helps,

Title: RE: MI - selecting text objects

Dear all,

Thanks for the answers to date. Both Chris Perry and Brian Forrester werre on the right track, although Bob Young offered another solution. Anyway, here's the one that worked for me:

Assuming your MpInfo table is called YOUR_TABLE , Just use the SQL Select
function (Query > SQL Select):

Select *
From YOUR_TABLE
Where Str$(obj)="text"

And that's all there is to it. You can do the same for line, polyline,

Thanks again for everyone's help.

Re: MI MapImagery

1999-11-11 Thread Justin Hyland

MapImagery has become more stable with the latest release (6.040
October 13 1999). We find it a great product for viewing ECWs in
MapInfo (also supported with a raster handler and now to ship with
MapInfo) and for opening ERMapper algorithms in MapInfo. Turn off
progress bar under Options>General tab - unecessary to draw attention
to load time as ECWs load very quickly.

MI Bournemouth's Foray into Internet Mapping

1999-11-11 Thread Timothy Chinchen Cen-IT

If anyone's interested we've (Bournemouth Borough Council (UK) ) just
released our first Internet based mapping using MapXtreme.
I was wondering if anyone else in local govt. uses MapXtreme on the
internet, I've seen a few intranet demos (notably Adrian Gray's very
impressive Torbay Application).
Does anyone have any comments on general MapXtreme features such as the Java
Mapplet, the speed of delivery, ease of use, etc

P.S. Ref:- Map Imagery, we currently use ERMapper's ECW as a standard for
our aerial imagery (one photo of 250mb (uncompressed TIFF) was compressed to
approx. 8mb with no major loss of definition - to view in MI we've load the
ECW file Handler (downloadable from www.ermapper.com))

MI: virtual city software

1999-11-11 Thread Robert Crossley

I have been asked by a client about software that you can create a virtual
city to look at proposed changes. I have seen a few references about
creating landscapes, and some such as virtual frontier to put 3D buildings
into the landscape as blocks. He has seen an Autocad add on that allows
embedding buildings that look real?

Any pointers?

MI Crystal Reports

1999-11-11 Thread CAD GIS. ESBIC

Hi,
I am wonering if anyone else has come across this problem and if so if there
is a solution.
I have installed Mapinfo 5.5 on a Windows NT4 PC but I cannot generate a new
report using Crystal reports from within Mapinfo.I can open and use Crystal
reports external to mapinfo and if I create a report externally I can then
open that report from within Mapinfo. However once I try to generate a new
report it gives a an error message on Mapinfow.exe access error Violation
and closes down Mapinfo. I have tried installing it a number of times using
both custom and typical installations with the same result.
In an attempt to find out if it was something to do specifically with NT, I
then installed it on a Windows 95 PC but the same problems reoccurs. The
details of the error message here is as follows:
- Mapinfo caused an invalid page fault in modulle mscrt.dll
- Mapinfo caused an invalid page fault in modulle kernel32.dll.
If anyone can help it will be appretiated,
Regards
Barry Doyle

Re: MI SQL Query Builder

1999-11-11 Thread Ahmet Dabanli

Don't you think that it is cumborsome finding a file in DirectionMag,
it was so easy in the past,

Goto
www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Grid/4434/gis.htm

and download SelnUpt.zip
by this program you can select records by values...

or

Goto Directions Magazine
http://www.directionsmag.com/tools/
select "utilities"
then "Order by filename"
Then select 23
and download from there
