Re: [MBZ] OT: chain saws
When we moved into the house (just over 6 years ago) I bought a Husqvarna 445 (I think its a 445 anyway) which is (was) the top end of the homeowner line. It uses the smaller chain and interestingly has a plastic bottom end which makes it very light, mine has an 18 bar although it'll supposedly handle 20. I paid right around $300 A year later Dad bought a cheapo Poulin at Walmart for something like $80. It the definition of cheap, cheap all over. Mine is the best saw I've ever had, Dad's is junk. When I bought it I very nearly went up one model (450?) but it was nearly $100 more. When I'm cutting a lot I wish I had, most times I don't. Just yesterday I noticed that Tractor Supply switched from Husqvarna to Jonsered. AFAIK Jonsered makes good saws but doesn't have much for name recognition, at least around here... -Curt Date: Fri, 10 May 2013 21:25:29 -0400 From: Allan Streib str...@cs.indiana.edu To: Mercedes List mercedes@okiebenz.com Subject: [MBZ] OT: chain saws Message-ID: m1a9o2wbna@cs.indiana.edu Content-Type: text/plain I have a fairly wooded lot and have decided I need to get a chain saw to keep it maintained. Curt Raymond wrote: Just yesterday I noticed that Tractor Supply switched from Husqvarna to Jonsered. IIRC, Electrolux spun off the outdoor power equipment division a few years ago and the parent company is named Husqvarna again. In recent years, Jonsered were red Huskies, usually with minor differences like a more perpendicular handlebar angle. That allowed the guys who liked an angled handlebar to buy Husky and the ones who liked a straighter bar to buy Jonsered, while getting the same quality saw. It also allowed pro saw shops to carry Jonsered without all the people who bought Huskies at TSC trying to come in for warranty service. Husqvarna is repositioning their various chainsaw names, so that might be subject to change. I hope the Jonsered name doesn't go downmarket like Poulan did. I just checked the Jonsered web site, it still has the pro saws listed, like the 2153 (equals Husky 346XP) and 2171. You might investigate a root prune proceedure, and preserve the tree. A competent nurseryman would be required, as well as excavation of the offending roots, and likely removal of the damaged driveway area. Once access is gained to the roots at or near ground level, they are then pruned, much like you would do an overhanging limb. The tree, if healthy, has much deeper root structures [certainly with a 45 ft canopy] and will not be impaired by the proceedure... only your wallet will be.. but possibly less than fighting city council for oak tree removal approval. Re: [MBZ] OT: chain saw danger
I have a very competent tree guy who has been doing this for many years, and is a certified arborist to boot. He's going to come over next week some time to take a look at it and offer suggestions. The only exemption for the removal of a mature oak is for damage to the sidewalk, driveway or foundation. It's pretty easy to do, just provide pictures that show the location of the tree and the displacement of the slab. Dan On May 12, 2013, at 2:10 PM, G Mann wrote: You might investigate a root prune proceedure, and preserve the tree. Just a thought. [MBZ] Low Oil Pressure W124 2.5 Turbo Diesel
Hi All, A question for the group. Last night on the way to work, the oil pressure on my '92 300D dropped from 3 bar pegged to a little over 2 bar, while driving 60 mph. (Tach is on the todo list). At idle, warm, it is BELOW one bar. That is WAY too low, I know that. When cold it runs where it is supposed to, but as it warms up the pressure drops. That is normal, just low. The following is my list of possible causes. Comments PLEASE... 1. Failed o-ring(s) on oil filter stem. 2. Schumtz in the oil pickup from somewhere (vacuum pump, timing chain guides, etc.) 3. Failed oil pump. Ideas? Pictures of gauges (Low oil pressure, failed tach, failed odometer...) https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5902347/Photo%20May%2012%2C%2010%2027%2050%20AM.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5902347/Photo%20May%2012%2C%2010%2028%2015%20AM.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5902347/Photo%20May%2012%2C%2010%2028%2022%20AM.jpg Thanks, Rick Knoble ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Verify that the pressure is indeed low and you don't just have a bad pressure sender unit! Mine did something similar, then dropped to zero and sat there. Replaced the sender, works fine. It is also possible to dislodge an internal seal in the oil filter, which will drop the oil pressure quite a bit. Try replacing the oil pressure sensor first. They are electronic and do go bad. I prefer a body putty knife, which is plastic and won't do any damage to metal parts. Great for removing exterior trim, too. After you have the liner off, close the roof, then the roof panel comes off with 4 bolts a-I-r. I prefer a body putty knife, which is plastic and won't do any damage to metal parts. Re: [MBZ] Redneck body work
From foggy memory... (best consult the service manual) If similar to a 124, open sunroof about 3/4. On the leading edge, the interior lining is held in place by four pins pushed into plastic receptacles in the metal sunroof frame. If you've ever taken the door lining off a VW beetle, same thing. Using a plastic or wooden wedge, force the lining down at the leading edge. The pins will pop out. Once you have the edge free, pull the lining forward and out if the way. Then just a couple of bolts on each side hold the metal sunroof skin to the bridge that goes fore and aft to move the roof. You may have to move the sunroof all the way forward to see them. -- Max Dillon Charleston, SC '95 E300, '87 300TD, '73 Balboa 20 Rich Thomas richthomas79td...@constructivity.net wrote: Ok don't keep me in suspense --R (sent from my miniPad) On May 12, 2013, at 7:57 PM, Dan Penoff d...@penoff.com wrote: The trim panel on the 126 and 123 sunroofs is easy to remove and can be done in a matter of seconds.
