Daughter has an '06 GL320cdi bought new. Her cost of repairs at the dealer since then is huge. She loves it, and can afford the expense, but I wouldn't have it. I think Kaleb bought one, had a lot of expense, and then sold it. The only part that hasn't needed repair is the basic engine and a variety of other usually trouble free parts such as the differential. Her mileage so far is about 150K. Some say any MB after 2006 is okay, but that one isn't IMO. Re: [MBZ] BMW 325 Station Wagon
My sister had a 2011 ML with diesel engine, on a three year lease. During the lease, it had one of the computers fail while sister was driving in six lanes of freeway traffic. Car totally shutdown, no warning. A very dangerous event, and thank God there weren't any collisions or injuries. When it came off lease, her father-in-law purchased it. Twice the fuel filter clogged and shut down the engine (I suspect the tank had a microbial growth bloom going). $300 each time for a tow to the dealer for diagnoses and a new filter installation. Finally the rear main engine seal started leaking, at about 100k miles, not covered by warranty, so he sold it. Mileage was only in the high 20's. Very comfortable and quiet, great to drive, but the quality was lacking. [MBZ] Two weeks with the MotoX
I don't remember if I mentioned that I finally dropped the hammer on the MotoX with Republic Wireless but I'm on my way out of my second week with it. Results are positive. I only have a couple minor complaints which will probably be fixed once I know more about Android. The biggest positive is predictive typing and autocorrect which are vastly superior to the iPhone 5 I had before, I've played with swipe type a little but while its neat I don't know if I'll ever really get into it. I LOVE the rounded back phone. Why does Apple insist on hard corners? The front edges of my macbook pro cut my wrists too, bad design. Republic's use of WiFi for calls has been pretty flawless. It hands off to cellular nicely, if we didn't not have cell phones I'd consider the $5 WiFi only option for a home phone. Anyway, I'm still getting used to it but all things considered Apple would have to do something amazing to lure me back to a phone that costs twice as much with no advantages. The prices have already dropped. The Phantom is the top of the line for consumer grade camera platforms. 5 years ago you were looking at $30,000 for something half as good. Its a large copter, not a child's toy. We have the same dilemma -- the 300 SDL is getting up there in years and miles, so is the 87 300D, and I am not excited about the replacements. The quality is simply not there, after Chrysler got involved Benz seems to have decided to make very expensive disposable cars, with electronic everything. Very annoying, I prefer the longevity of the older ones. New ones end up in the dump about the time I'd be buying them because they need several thousand dollars of electronics to fix stupid problems (i.e. two, not one, $2500 computers to get the f...king brake lights to work.) Re: [MBZ] BMW 325 Station Wagon
Peter, I have found the W140 to be a pretty robust platform, and relatively cheap to maintain and work on. My 95 S500 coupe is rapidly approaching 275k, and it's running great and has had minimal issues. Parts are readily available and not terribly expensive. I will be adding another W140 to the fleet in the near future, only this time it will be a later model and a sedan. For $5k-$7k you can get a nice late 90s W140 with less than 150k on it that will go another 200k easily. They are comparable if not better than a W126 when it comes to comfort and ride, and the later amenities make them even nicer. I have looked ahead of the W140s, but not liked what I saw. With this in mind I'm sticking to W140s and older. B-6s corner better but ride harder. B-4s have a softer more conventional OEM ride. Mixing them front and rear didn't work well on my '83 240D. Will stick with B-4s all around for normal driving. Re: [MBZ] Two weeks with the MotoX
What Tim is talking about is having complete voice control over the phone. For instance I can say Okay Google now theres a pause it and it asks what I want to do (this is all without touching the phone BTW) and I say text Angie theres a pause and it says What do you want to text? and I say I'll be home late, traffic is bad which it writes out, understanding me with frightening accuracy, then it asks if I want to send. All without the phone leaving my pocket... Siri can suck it, she couldn't understand a word that I said no matter how slowly I went. -Curt From: Craig via Mercedes mercedes@okiebenz.com To: Tim Crone bb...@crone.us; Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Sent: Saturday, August 30, 2014 8:29 PM Subject: Re: [MBZ] Two weeks with the MotoX On Sat, 30 Aug 2014 20:08:16 -0400 Tim Crone via Mercedes mercedes@okiebenz.com wrote: Have you played with Google Now? [MBZ] Coolpad 7 smartphone
I need the biggest smartphone screen available. Currently looking at a Coolpad with a 7 screen. It's made by a major Chinese manufacturer and their phones are supposedly number three in popularity in China. (Favorable article in Forbes.) The Coolpads are not listed as unlocked, but they appear to be usable on both android and Iphone networks. Here is some of their tech data: Dual sim card, dual standby Network mode GSM;CDMA *Cellular Band **2G:GSM 900/1800MHz ***3G: WCDMA 2100MHz Service data **GSM/WCDMA My questions are: 1. Would this phone work on a Verizon network that My Iphone is on, and later on an android network? 2. Is this the equivalent of an unlocked phone? 3. All listed on Ebay are shipped from China or Hongkong. Does anyone know of a satisfactory retailer in China or Hongkong that might carry these phones? If not, would it be better to buy from China or Hongkong? 4. I read that a quadcore phone is needed for use overseas. Several on Ebay are listed as octacore phones. Would these also work overseas ( Quad = 4, Octa = 8)?
