I disagree. I really like the 6BT in my 3/4 Dodge. Feels and drives like
a truck, not a car.

Re: [MBZ] needs much repair 82 380SEL

2016-11-27 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
I am looking for a M116 engine and trans. A 380SEL would be ideal. a
420SEL would be even better. (Gen II 126, more HP) I think I could
make the M117 from a 500SEL or a 560SEL work. The reason I am looking
for the long body is because I think I could take one of my spare OM603
engines and put in in an SEL to make a SDL so that I could scrap the
rustbucket SDL. Sorta kill 2 birds with one SEL. I think I can get a
SEL for !500 or so. Otherwise, I have to spend probably $1500 for an
M116, and probably that much again for a better SDL or 300D.

I liked this ol boy, Frank talking to him on the phone. If you go see
him, I think you might like him too. If he comes around on the SEL, ok,
and if not I'll find another, hopefully closer to South MS/AL/LA. My
guess is that i'll have to find another.

I am headed south Dec 20.

I think I will go N around March 1 to finish house projects and get it
up for sale. If all goes well, Mar 15 until the house sells or about
June 20, we'll be in the south again. #1 daughter getting married Jun 17.

Sometime around Jan 5 I need to see Manfred and pickup the BMW. FL
MiniQ Maybe we can get Gerry or go visit him. I hope he's ok.
His message about being "off" for a while concerns me.

Re: [MBZ] OM606 in W126 300SDL

2016-11-27 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
I agree. A 4BT rattles and shakes and makes a lot of noise. It is much
heavier than the gas engine the trucks came with. A 6 bt is bigger and
heavier, and the new ones are more refined, but it is too heavy for half
or 3/4 ton peekups. A 6 BT might work in a 1 ton, but for 1.5 or 2 ton,
its da bomb.

An OM 603 at 125 HP is at least as good as a ford 240 or 300. Yes, it
cruises at 3000 RPM, but that should push along the truck with the
original rear end at highway speeds. If you turn up the fuel some and
add a couple PSI of boost it should equal the HP of a 300 cubic inch or
so merkun gasser. It will be no more weight, perhaps lighter than a
small block frod, shovey of dogde.

I am not thinking of any newish truck. a 1980 or so frod would be the
newest I'd look at. 1966 to 1968 (GM, frod or dogde) or so would be
preferable.

I've never been so excited about driving big truck engines in
passenger type vehicles. The only 6BT I drove was an '01 24 valve and
it had nothing on an MB or VW diesel.
Gearing decides where you rev to. For a 1 ton truck the 6BT is
probably the best choice but for something smaller like a 1/2 ton
truck doing light work a 602/603/606 is probably fine.

Re: [MBZ] Let the Martha'ing Begin!

2016-11-27 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Slow day today. Seems that the cumulative affects of the week have caught up
with me. I am drained.

Mild tinkering and clean up stuff so far:

Drained PS reservoir, installed new filter and topped off with MB fluid. Old
fluid was a little dark, but not bad. It was MB fluid, which is good.

Polished out the side windows to get the last of the water spots off. Did the
windshield as well and then applied some Rain-X.

Driver’s outside rear view mirror housing seemed sloppy, like the spring wasn’t
holding it tight to the door frame, so I popped the glass out to have a look.
No wonder - the spring was unhooked from the housing for some reason. Polished
the mirror glass and greased up the swivel and other parts of the mount and
reinstalled it.

Plugged the vacuum line to the EGR. PO told me it had a BB in it but
considering other things he told me, I checked to be sure. No BB. Vacuum all
the way back to the changeover valves as I suspected, so I put a golf tee in
the line at the EGR for now.

Pulled the glove compartment liner to see if the foam hose was still intact,
despite the ACC working just fine as far as temperatures and fan speeds.
Amazing! The original foam hose is still in place and in good condition. I’ve
never seen one before, other than in powder form. Nice.

Went through the contents of the owner’s manual pouch. I was stunned. Bought
at Lokey MB (Clearwater) in 1982, owner’s book stamped for all services up
until 1999 around 100k, shortly before the PO bought it. I even found the
window sticker and predelivery checklist, as well as the meal plate they issued
with the cars back then to be able to stamp the service orders with the owner’s
information when the car came in for service.

$29,698.00 MSRP
N/C Becker Europa Radio & Cassette
$829.00 Sliding roof option
$115.00 distribution & delivery

$30.642.00 final price.

Window sticker:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/vfm9x6ajn2zw3f0/1982%20300D%20Window%20Sticker001.pdf?dl=0

Predelivery Checklist:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/v1g6boahdq9vbcw/1982%20300D%20Predelivery001.pdf?dl=0

Might do a little more, probably won’t. My Allen Edmonds have been begging for
a shine, so I should probably address that. Planning on driving the car to
work tomorrow. Should be fun.

Dan

Commercial grade propane.
It's the highest common everyday grade (refrigerant grade R-290 isn't that
common)
In most states not named California, HD5 is the only grade that's
legal for sale

as home heating propane.

The founders had inspired genius. (most would argue divinely inspired
genius)

If I had to guess, There were probably 2 million votes in LA county that
were not legal votes (illegal alien, double votes, etc) Take those
away and maybe DJT won LA county. Wouldn't that be a trip!

This is an interesting map that shows geographic distribution of the
vote winners by county:

http://i0.wp.com/metrocosm.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/election-2016-county-map.png?w=600

The article with it is somewhat interesting but seems to have a bit of
bias:

http://metrocosm.com/election-2016-map-3d/

I saw a comment from someone that said if the blue areas prevailed it
would be sorta like a "Hunger Games" kind of situation where the elite
metro areas basically controlled the rest of the country, the
residents of whom would basically have no say in the matter if not for
the electoral college arrangement.

The article says:

As with most maps that represent information using color, red/blue
election maps are great for communicating categorical data (in this
case, /which candidate won county X?/). But they don’t do a very good
job conveying magnitude
(/how important is county X compared to other counties?/).

For example, *L.A. County
*
alone has a population of over *10 million*. That’s more than the
combined population of 10 entire states. *Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode
Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota,
Vermont,* and *Wyoming* together have a total population of just over
*9 million*?

Which says that LA County could basically be the key to a Clinton
"win" since the margin is like 1.5M votes at this point, and I think
her margin was larger than that in LA County? And LA County would
basically negate the votes of 10 states that comprise a very large
geographic area though low-density.

I have tried this and duracool and I just do not like the blends. If you have
any sort of leak at all the different elements leak at different rates which
changes the mix and it does not cool. You can't simply top it up you have to
discharge and start all over. You may not have had a leak leak before with r12
or 134 but it is possible the blend could leak. If it was super cheap it would
be ok but most of these seem to be expensive now days.

I have also used it with excellent results! When the compressor blew on the
123 (totally unrelated to the ES-12) the mech used good AC parts from a
recently wrecked 300CD and filled with R-12. That was in 2013, and I have not
had to charge since.

I had some cans left over, so Dimitri and I put it into his ’78 240D with a
York compressor, and I think he had ice cold air for almost a week. It leaked
out. That’s next summer’s project.

That is a good though Curt.

Trump won the electoral college. Game over.

Trump won if you only take out the illegal aliens who are ineligible to
vote, but who voted anyway at the encouragement of the (J) party. They
know there is no punishment for illegal activities by illegal aliens in
this country.

Then you need to take out the dead people voting

Then you need to take out the people voting multiple times

Then you need to take out the people bussed to another state to vote
illegally

But NONE of that matters, because the states choose electors, and the
electors vote for prez. Trump won. The WB itch conceded. Jill the
felon stein is irrelevant as is the johnson welder.
