I can tell you that cash receipts not making it into the business bank account

Sounds to me like a guy who got used to cheating whenever he could as a cop and
still being thought of as upstanding. The police motto seems to be if they
can't prove you did anything wrong, everything's fine.
I can tell you that cash receipts not making it into the business bank account
or claimed as revenue is common small business practice, but I always had the
feeling that the former cops were more likely to do it than the others.

I bought this house outside of Boston, the owner was one Frank Bowman,
sort of an Irish ne'er-do-well. Anyway, he was telling us his daughter
was dating this guy from Providence. So one day Frank looks out his
front door and there is a Lincoln limo (no Caddies) out front, 3 or 4
big guys in dark suits get out, then this little old guy. Old guy comes
to the door, introduces himself as Ray Patriarca, father of the datee of
Frank's daughter. Ray wanted to check things out, make sure they were
OK. So Frank, being a guy aware of such things, knows Ray by
reputation. Ray was from Providence, you can look him up. Frank had
him in for a little refreshment, and was mightily impressed, this
apparently was a highlight of his life.

I think old Ray might have passed on, and his son was getting some heat
from the Feds last I paid any attention to all that (about 10 yr). The
boy seemed to be just a goombah, not nearly as smart as the old man.

I'll be back up that way next month, will have to see what I can find in
the papers (only the Herald ever reported much about that stuff, the
Globe was too busy idolizing Teddy (D-UI).

How's Buddy (Cianci, former mayah of Providence) doing these days? Has
he gone straight? My wife met him once before his little vacation, said
he was an absolute hoot. I think he's making pasta gravy now?

You know too why they don't drive Caddies, right? Although Paulie
Walnuts had one, I never figured that.

My grandmother's brother is a guy named Salvador Borrelli. I have only met him
5-6 times in my life. Everyone calls him Uncle Sally. He lives in New Jersey
(where all of my dad's family lives) and owns a tiny little pizza joint.
Despite its small size, the pizza place does MILLIONS of dollars in business.
I always thought that was odd, until I met Uncle Sally at my grandfather's
funeral. He also rode in a big black Lincoln, that a guy named Billy drove for
him. He was wearing a black shiny suit to my Grandmother's fourth of July
party/Funeral Wake. He was drinking bourbon out of a paper cup with the pizza
joints name printed on it. It was 9:00 am. My cousin, Anthony, spoke quietly
with him in my grandfather's study. Then, he glad handed everyone, kissed his
sister and left. My grandmother found out the next day that the mortgage on
her house was paid for. The bank just sent her a mortage release with no
explanation. No exaggeration.

No one messes with them, and if they did the FBI in Boston would tip
them off. There was a running shoot out some years ago near where I

I think he might have been killed. The FBI was involved in that
somehow, all that came out a few years ago when a couple of agents were

paid tax. I found out it was called gweilo tax.

A friend and I used to go to this one Chinese restaurant pretty frequently
and I noticed that if we paid with plastic we'd get a big scowl. One time I
commented on it to him, he laughed. He's Chinese and his family used to own
a Chinese restaurant. Apparently when people pay with cash only about half
the time does the money make it to the books. ALL credit and debit card
transactions make it to the books...

Sounds to me like a guy who got used to cheating whenever he could as a cop
and
still being thought of as upstanding. The police motto seems to be if
they
can't prove you did anything wrong, everything's fine.
I can tell you that cash receipts not making it into the business bank
account
or claimed as revenue is common small business practice, but I always had
the
feeling that the former cops were more likely to do it than the others.

No one messes with them, and if they did the FBI in Boston would tip
them off. There was a running shoot out some years ago near where I
lived, machine guns and pistols. Cadillac Frank Flemmi was involved,
I think he might have been killed. The FBI was involved in that
somehow, all that came out a few years ago when a couple of agents were

Whitey's (brother of the Speakah of the House, and UMass pres) outfit
was the Winter Hill gang, a place in Somerville where they grew up or
something. He took off years ago, still on the lam with occasional

have things divided up and pretty much leave each other alone.
