If by Vinyl Village you mean Cookie Cutter subdivisions, then that's
basically all that is out here. They have been buying up and ripping down to
build more of them everywhere. Sad really.

455 W. Roberts Road, to be exact - on the outside,
near the intersection of Thompson and Meridian (135).

Still a nice old southside neighborhood, but as it
always seems, everything appears to be so much
*smaller* than I remember it as a child...

I believe that's around where my sister lives in some

Couldn't say for sure, since I haven't talked to her

Re: [MBZ] Chowda'Q

2008-04-06 Thread LWB250
I grew up near the intersection of Thompson Road and
Meridian. Went to Burkhart and Lincoln elementaries,
opened Meridian Middle and Perry Meridian HSs. When I
got married, we lived on the southside for a year,
then out to W. 10th Street, then down to Greenwood
just off of Smith Valley just east of SR 135 before
bailing out in 1988 and moving to Wisconsin.

I wouldn't mind living in Greenwood, but it doesn't
make sense based on where the business is located.
While I have family down there, it's only 30 minutes
away, so that's not a big inconvenience. My brother
lives in Valle Vista, and my mom just sold her place
and is moving into Crestwood up on Madison.

So where did you live in Greenwood?

My neighbors are some kind of real estate agents. Haven't gotten into deep
conversations with them over it, but they seem fairly successful. They have
been attempting to sell their own house for almost a year now. Have several
repossessed and now HUD listed homes in the edition as well. It's fairly
depressing. I grew up in Southern Indianapolis, and swore I'd never move to
the North side, but the hour plus drive one way every day wore me down.

All the tech jobs are in Carmel-ish area, so I finally broke and moved to
Westfield just North of Carmel for a couple years before having the house in
Noblesville built. It's not a bad place, in fact some crazy magazine that
does an annual top 50 places to live, has listed it in the top 10 the past
three years.

I'm just wanting to move back South, preferably around Greenwood. The
unfortunate fact of my life is I know just about every inch of I-465. I was
in "External Sales" for a while and did a lot of driving anyway, so an hour
drive for work doesn't seem as bad anymore.

Re: [MBZ] Chowda'Q

2008-04-04 Thread LWB250
We bought this house in February of 1997, just missing
the change in tax law regarding capital gains (dang
it!) That's why I hadn't thought about the change in
tax laws regarding home sales.

We seriously considered delaying the purchase of the
house as a result of the change, because we took a hit
when we moved down here - the market was hot in
Milwaukee at the time and we were selling a house we
had built ourselves (major league sweat equity there.)

Good to know - thank goodness we won't get hammered,
because the same thing is going to happen again with
the ridiculous home prices here and far less expensive
homes in Indy.

FWIW, we'll be on the west side, probably in Avon,
Plainfield or Brownsburg. Still lots of land around
there and close to work for me.

Thanks for the info - and we've already started our
"box 'o' receipts" for the house sale.

2008-04-04 Thread LWB250
Back to the emergency/standby generator business. I
did this for 20 years before becoming a stay-at-home
Dad and going back to school. The guy I'm going to
work with is a former business partner. Back in the
mid 80s one of the partners decided he wanted to live
like the CEO of a Fortune 500 company before we quite
made it, and ran us into receivership.

I bailed and went to work for a BIG corporation
(Kohler Co.) swearing that I would never sacrifice my
personal efforts and assets again. My former partner
scraped, begged and borrowed to buy the assets from
the receiver, and started right back up. He has been
very successful, the business is very profitable, well
capitalized, and owns everything it has outright
(building, land, inventory, vehicles, etc.)

We have talked about this casually for years, but the
time was right, so my 10 year sabbatical is over, and
now I'm going back

Maybe but a good one is hard to beat. Of course, I really like bread so maybe
it follows that I would like the
Yorkshire pudding too. We have a local restaurant that does a real nice prime
rib and the dinner always comes with
a real nice Yorkshire pudding and juice to dip it in. That and a bit of
horseradish to go with the beef and a bit
of red wine and I don't care if I get the potatoe and veggies.

For Yorkshire pudding read popover with gravy (brown).
It was originally designed to fill up the diners before the meat

There is the potential for a future "Indy 'Q".

To more or less let the cat out of the bag, the family and I will be
returning to Indianapolis (our hometown) this summer to take over
partnership in a business I was formerly a part of. My formerly former
partner is about 10 years my senior, and he has recently come to the
realization that there is, in fact, life outside of the business.

As a result I will be returning to gradually take over the business so he
and his brother can segue out of it and begin to enjoy a life of leisure
while I work myself to death...

The nature of my relocation is such that I expect to be "house rich" due
to the grossly inflated home values here in Florida, resulting in a lot a
equity that I have to do something with or take my lifetime capital gains
tax. That, coupled with significantly lower home prices in Indianapolis and
environs, makes for a good deal for us when it comes to finding a house.
Add in the current market situation, and you couldn't ask for a better
chance to do some serious negotiating. While we haven't looked at it in
detail, I suspect we will end up with a large home and some land, possibly.
Even if that doesn't work out, the business has a large piece of property
that would lend itself to a nice gathering. We're on Country Club Road just
north of West 10th Street, if you're interested in location. There are lots
of nice things to see in the immediate area, (500 Speedway, Children's
Museum, etc.) so it would be an ideal place to have a gathering, especially
for those who
might want to include family members.

Now all I have to do is find an MB

There's no lifetime exclusion or rollover replacement now. As it currently
stands, the section 121 exclusion is limited to $250k per taxpayer every
two years. If you are MFJ, the first $500k of gain is exempt, anything over
that is taxable whether you buy something else or not. I suppose I should
check and see if any changes are scheduled for 2008 returns, but I don't
believe there are.

When I turned it up on the car radio, my youngest looked at me as if
I'd lost my mind! Opera and baroque mostly, with a sprinkling of other stuff.
e.g. "Coin operated boy" by Dresden Dolls. Laughed my socks off! Very
well done.

And if thar ever does owt for nowt
Do it for thar sen."
