Marshall,

I agree that wash down is not a problem in a fuel injected car because
of the way the fuel is managed - the fuel is sprayed into the manifold,
usually well into the manifold & is well atomized.

But it is a problem in carbureted cars, even Mercedes. Gasoline wash
down is caused by fuel condensing out of the charge - the same process
is what makes carburetor chokes a necessity. If fuel condensing out of
the charge were not an issue then carbureted cars would only have a high
speed idle & would not need a choke for cold starting. The choke
enriches the fuel mixture to make up for the fuel that is condensed out
of the charge. But the fuel droplets tend to be larger when the choke is
closed & this actually adds to the problem.

Carbureted Mercedes gas engines do not wear out AS FAST, not because
gasoline wash down is not an issue but because the engines are made from
much harder steel then the mild iron American engines. Also, American
engines through the early 70's tend to be tuned richer for performance &
driveability. Tuning rich also adds to the problem.

That's seldom a problem in a well engineered and maintained engine. The
cylinder walls of MOST well cared for Mercedes engines aren't seriously
worn even after a quarter or even a half a million miles although using
a synthetic might improve that slightly. Synthetics really do reduce
most cold accelerated bearing wear (and other friction caused wear).

That's a turbohydrodiesel, makes fuel from water to give excellent
mileage on whatever is put into it. I'm guessing he has a magnetic flux
inducer on the fuel line, and a Tornado turbulator on the air intake
too. There might even be a spare tank somewhere to collect the fuel it
generates as it is driven.

I bet if you huff the exhaust while using the hydrogen converter you'll lose
weight! No wait...the front seats have been retro-fitted with ultrasonic

the trunk with red brick pavers and you drive around the block while using
WVO and the hydrogen converter in tandem, you'll turn the pavers into gold

bologna in the glove box the bologna turns into a perfectly medium-rare

In producing bikodiesel I stress removing every bit of water I possibly can

Now, am I to understand that somethig to do with adding water increases the

The car may be over priced but you'll love his home page.

http://www.greenbenz.com/

Regarding his hydro-conversion system.

He's taking energy from the alternator to break down water into hydrogen
& oxygen then he's feeding hydrogen & oxygen into the engine to create
power.

Sounds great, right?

But wait - he has to use that power plus more to drive the alternator
that he uses to generate the electricty that he uses to break the water
down into hydrogen and oxygen!

Last I checked there was no such thing as a prepetual motion machine and
his hydro-conversion is a farce.

What kind of V-8 is that, anyway? I clicked on the link expecting to

You'd be surprised how fast you can get federal marshals on your doorstep
if you solicit donations without a license on the internet. Happened to
my brother last month. Fortunately the woman they were looking for hasn't
lived with him in over ten years, but he still didn't appreciate the 3AM
wake-up knock, or the involuntary search of the premises.

Which leads to the question: Does an arrest warrant really give them
the right to search every residence in the country, including those
which the accused has never laid eyes upon, as long as the feds claim
the accused knows somebody who lives there?

To search a residence, you need a search warrant, not an arrest warrant. I
presume it would specify the address.

However, if they show up at a residence, and have "reasonable cause" to
presume that the subject is inside, can they enter? And once inside, if
they see any incriminating evidence "in plain sight" I believe they
don't need a warrant to act on that.

I'm not sure on this one. I've heard that if in searching they find
something illegal that isn't related to the cause of the warrant they
have to get another warrant. I'm not sure if that applies to "in plain
sight" or not. I may very likely have heard wrong as well.

I can answer that one. If they find it by accident while looking for
the item(s) listed on the warrant, they are in the clear. OTOH, if the
warrant lists the object to be found as a 300lb woman, they can't look
for her in a shoe box. It's my understanding that the unwarranted search
I mentioned earlier went quite quickly, as they really were just looking
to arrest a broad and not fishing for other stuff. As near as I can
tell, two women posted a plea on the internet for donations to pay
for a lawyer for a custody battle in Arkansas, and that resulted in
feds running around in Michigan looking for one of the women. Gigantic
waste of my/your/our money if that's what really happened.

I was assuming they had an arrest warrant for the subject, but not a
search warrant for the specific premises.

That's my understanding of it. I don't think my brother was entirely
coherent when they woke him up in the middle of the night, but that's
how he told it to me. It would take a huge load of perjury to get a
warrant for his place, as I don't think he's laid eyes on the subject
in the past five years, and she doesn't know exactly where he lives now.
I think they were just using the arrest warrant and 'probable cause'
to believe she'd be there. If they did that at my house, I'd tell
them that X county prosecuting attorney's office had her address last
summer when she took out a restraining order against her husband, go
talk to them, but I wouldn't let them in.
I'd sooner shoot both of them then let them make an armed home invasion
at my place. I hope I'd have the sense to grab the shotgun with the
flechettes in it if somebody started pounding on the door at 3am.

Correct, and for a 3AM call, it needs to be endorsed for night service. An
arrest warrant allows you to go knocking on a known place of residence, but
showing up to a place someone hasn't lived in ten years looking for them
AT THREE IN THE MORNING is really nothing more than flipping the bird at the
fourth amendment.

A while back there was a story in the news. Girl#1 (not on the lam)
is hiding out with boyfriend (who skipped out on probation) in a motel.
Bounty hunters (looking for girl#2, no relation to girl#1) almost get
inside by impersonating police, but they slam the door. Then a bounty
hunter tries to break in through a window.

Boyfriend pulls a gun on him. He runs off and calls the cops, tells
them that a black guy with a gun is holding a white girl hostage.
"hostage" crisis ends with the cops storming the motel room and
shooting boyfriend in the head. AFAIK, no charges filed against
bounty hunters for impersonating cops or attempted B&E of an occupied
dwelling.

I'm surprised the law that gives the bonty hunters so much leeway hasn;t

It's hard to believe we have a law that allows the BHs to get away with

Who said law enforcement obeys the laws we pay them to enforce?

When it comes to bounty hunters breaking and entering at the wrong
address, remember that cops not only get to break in at the wrong house,
they can fire machine guns indiscriminately in there and none will be
punished. Although there is the case of a Lima, Ohio cop who shot a
woman and her baby after the suspect they were after was already
in handcuffs, and they are actually pressing charges against him.
If convicted of all charges, the maximum possible sentence is
8 months. I bet he doesn't serve a day, and gets to keep his job.
I think he shot them eight times. She was just standing there holding
a screaming one year old when he opened fire. So far he's been punished
with two months of paid vacation, and he's still getting paid.

Then again sometimes they are punished. Case of the .38 wielding granny
who was shot by cops that had an illegal no knock warrant. She even
fired a warning shot into the roof after it took them 2 min to pry the
burglar bars off.

Re: [MBZ] WTF??

2008-03-19 Thread LarryT
Well, screaming kids *can* get on peoples nerves. I know all too well the
police often make mistakes - one thing the people who are always saying only
police and military should have guns fail to understand that 11% of the time
police shoot the wrong person while a concealed permit holder has a record
of less then 2% - quite a difference.

But back to police and BHs - at least the police are *supposed* to play by
the rules, the BHs get away with murder - yeah, so do cops - but so do
parents who kill their kids - and there's few laws to charge then with.

BTW, that baby was probably reaching for a gun.

BTW, speaking of police with machine guns -- I have a *big* problem with
traiing the police to be military. There's a difference between the 2
forces (obviously) - police are *supposed* to apprehend and bring in -
military are trained to kill so they and fellow soldiers are not killed and
objectives are met. Totally different objectives. Yet when the police are
put in black special forces outfits with fully auto M16s (why must they be
fully auto?) and face masks/helmets, they begin to think like a green beret.

And punishment for police officers should be the same as for regular people.
BTW, ever notice how parents kill their kids and get 6 months in jail?
Seems to happen a lot -

Now I get it, it's Ideal Auto. I've heard mixed

I can sympathize with him a bit. Not for no reason has eBay now supplied a
disclaimer that vendors are not responsible for service times on delivery
(read: postal service delays).

I have found people are getting insane. I have had buyers e-mail me TWO days
after they paid, asking where the item is. People must think all eBay
vendors live above postal offices or something.

The whole problem with ebay these days is it's frequented by people with
more money than brains. They have no idea what auction means. They just
keep bidding way over retail value for items sight unseen with no
warrenty. They think because it's an auction that theyre getting a deal.
all they are doing is running prices up way past reality for auction goods.
I had one customer, a lady bought a volvo and had it shipped cross
country, the thing and an insane multitude of problems, but she waited
too long to try to remedy with the seller and was stuck with it She
didn't have a clue as to what she had done, the seller just made it so
easy to part with her money and she bought it). Then she brings it to me
and I basicaly wind up doing charity work on it so she can try to recoup
her loss. She bought it from one of the many major chrysler dealers
selling on ebay.

You are completely correct. The same problem exists with 'live' auctions,
particularly the ones held by the itinerant companies who rent a big hotel
ballroom on Boxing Day or Labour Day and advertise 'inventory blowout' or
such. The people who go there are often paying close to retail, or even
over, with no real recourse or customer service (and they even buy stuff
like electronics and PCs).

The eBay psychology is interesting. For example, my biggest headaches (and I
mean HUGE) have been with customers buying late-model Volvo stuff. They are
beyond not having a clue. The vintage Volvo crowd are absolutely tip-top
people, love dealing with them, but the people with the more recent cars are
just plain lost. I mean, how can you purchase a piece of trim using Buy It
Now, FIVE DAYS before the end of the listing, then e-mail someone and say,
"oh, sorry but I forgot my interior is beige not black"?? This happened not
once but twice.

Mercedes stuff is harder to sell, but I rarely hear a peep back, either
during or after the transaction.

Oh, and I hate to say this but Canadians are the absolute worst. I have
nearly reached the point of not shipping to my own country. I kid you not.
No wonder e-commerce never took off up here as it did in the U.S.

I think sometimes people think they're getting a "deal," but I think
more often people just get caught up in the competition. People hate to
lose "their item" to someone else, so they'll pay more than they should
to win the auction.

The rest is just pure capitalism at work. eBay is the closest thing out

textbooks.

Sadly, no, he will not get the boot. He's a Power Seller, which means
he can do anything short of selling crack on eBay and get away with
it. See, eBay makes money off these jokers, no matter how badly they
screw their victims (er,I mean customers). That's why Big Buffoon is
still around after years of continuous problems. He consistently gets
eBay to remove a lot, if not most, of his negative feedbacks. Bottom
line, eBay "officials" are not our friends - they are interested in
making money. Extreme care should be taken with any seller that has a
questionable feedback record.

BTW, this Ideal bozo has a cheaper scolding here - save 90% over his other rant:

I wonder if he has any idea how much those listings are costing him!

I don't mind that, personally, but I can see how it'd be a problem for
businesses that ship UPS exclusively. It'd mean extra trouble/expense
for them -- having to go to the post office instead of letting the stuff
go out with their scheduled UPS pickup.

It does get my goat when foreign buyers try to insist I lie on the

lied through their teeth and they negd the daylights out of me after I
left WAY to nice a statement on their neg feedback.. My crime, immidiate

You cant give an honest feedback without getting a retalitory neg from

I gave bad feedback once and got it in return. Worst part is, it dinged
me worse because it's a higher percentage of my rating. The seller's
account got removed, eventually, but eBay left their negative feedback
on my account.

Now if I don't have anything nice to say, I just don't leave feedback.

That has been my philosophy. I have left neutral, once, I think. And I never
leave feedback until the other party has first. I'm sitting at 151 feedbacks

Then I'm a sleazebag too. :) I finally stopped leaving feedback (when
I'm selling something) until the buyer leaves positive feedback for
me. I tell them right up front to leave feedback for me if they're
happy, and email me immediately if they're not so we can work out a
resolution. Half the time I get no feedback at all, and I'm sure not
going to pad their positives while they give me nothing!

As a buyer, I leave feedback immediately if it's positive, and I don't
bother leaving negatives or neutrals - not worth the risk of losing my
100% positive record for some retaliatory scumbag. I'd attempt the
'feedback snipe' but eBay can't even commit to a firm 90 day limit, so
the scumbag may still be able to retaliate even if you time it to
89.99 days.

True, eBay isn't making much... but the listing fees (regardless of if
the item sells) are based on opening bid price. He'd same some $$ if
the opening bid was $0.99 instead of $600. It makes no sense to me for
him to list more than one, with a useless title, at a high price. Very
weird.

Thats my exact policy. YOu leave somebody good feedback then they get a
wild hair up their ass, or cant read auction terms and leave neg just
because they can. Or, you leave people good feedback and they dont
bother leaving you feedback. My thought is that if they want good
feedback, they need to leave it. IF I am the buyer I always leave good
feedback right away. Half the time I still never get any in return.

Yes it does. I think ebay protocol dictates that the seller leaves feedback
after receiving payment and the buyer leaves feedback after receiving the
goods. Otherwise it turns into intimidation.

I've literally never seen a transaction go that way. Generally the
buyer leaves feedback once they're satisfied (or not) with the
merchandise, then the seller leaves feedback. You really don't know
whether someone's a "good buyer" or not until they've gotten the stuff.
Just because they paid doesn't mean they won't try to weasel out of it
later.

I have had a couple like that just recently, at the mo I've bought a couple
of clear indicator assemblies and the seller has left feedback already, even
though the indicators (according to Fedex) have not even left the states.
A "decent" seller should leave feedback once he/she has what they are after
(money). Otherwise they are withholding feedback to try and intimidate the
buyer into leaving good feedback. Unfortunately however that is the way the
feedback system is going.
Anyway ebay is full of con artists at best and downright crooks at worst and
every vehicle in which the A/C is not working just needs a recharge:-)

I guess I feel like I'd be shirking my duty if I left feedback
immediately upon getting the money. There's more to being a good buyer
than paying, though admittedly that's most of it. ;) Until they have
the goods, you don't know if they're going to complain about stuff they
were already told about in the listing, etc.

What I'll usually do is wait a couple weeks, then leave feedback if I
haven't heard anything. Often the buyer has already left feedback at
that point, but if not, I don't wait for them to do so. I think that's
reasonable.

That does not make much sense- A turbo heat wrap? The diesel exhaust does
not get that hot to begin with and this stuff could cause the oil and bearing
in
the turbo to run hotter. Plus this crazy intake system with that small air
filter could not possibly breath as well as the big stock filter? It also
takes in hot air from the engine bay instead of cool outside air as the stock
setup does. His oil reclaim system looks too small to work well... Who
knows...
I bet this stuff works as well as the fuel saving magnets -Dan

Well now that is a piece of kit that promises to nicely complement the other
useless thing in the first pic, the K & N cylinder wall sandblaster.

The turbo performance crowd use heat wraps on their bling bling cars. I
really don't see it making a shred of difference on a daily driver
turbodiesel, unless you routinely pound the daylights out of it all day in
stop and go driving in a really hot environment.

For those guys who build up their turbodiesels, however, like the GM and
Ford pickup performance crowd, I could see it making some sense.

The best part about this is that having a hot engine bay is beneficial to
the engine. Anyone who has taken thermodynamics and heat transfer would know
that the hotter an engine runs, the more efficient it is. The only think you
would want to be cold is the air going into the engine because it is more
dense. The whole idea behind this is silly...
