[Mikrotik] Routing VPN Issue
Trying to figure out an odd routing issue with a PtP VPN setup. Diagram Below: (10.7.65.0 subnet) | | Sonicwall (10.7.65.1) | | Mikrotik RB (10.7.65.2) | | (IPSEC/IPIP VPN) | | Mikrotik RB (172.23.65.1) | | (172.23.65.0 subnet) Problem I'm having is connecting to devices on the 10.7.65.0 subnet from the 172.23.65.0 subnet. The problem also happens when you to a PPtP VPN directly to the 10.7.65.2 router. Running an IP scan from the 10.7.65.2 router shows all the devices on the 10.7.65.0 subnet. Also, when running an IP scan from the 10.7.65.2 router on the 172.23.65.0 subnet shows every IP address with the same MAC address and 0ms, but does ping the devices correctly. I am running OSPF between the MT routers. I do not have access to the Sonicwall device as it's being managed by another company. Any thoughts would be appreciated. -- ---- Chris Gotstein, Network Engineer, U.P. Ran into a very strange problem between a Mikrotik router doing NAT and our Netspective bandwidth shaper. About a year ago i ran into this problem with a client and chalked it up to something funky and just removed the rule from the netspective box. Today, i installed another MT box and saw the same problem. What happens is when there is a hard limit set on the public ip that the MT box has, any decent size downloads will fail and strange timeouts start to occur. If i remove the rule from the netspective, the problem goes away, but then the client is set to wide open bandwidth. I know i can do simple queues on the MT to get around this, but i'd rather do all my shaping on the netspective box. Running MT APs with XR2 cards. No problems connecting Tranzeo CPQ/SL2 or UBNT radios when using a 10mhz channel. I do agree on how well we like our Tranzeo radios. I just wish they could come down on the price of the CPQ-19f radio. We can get a bullet2HP w/ 19db panel for a lot less. The price on the CPQ-15f/SL2-15f is perfect and competitive with a Bullet2 w/ 16db panel. The only issues i see with auto-negotiate not working is when you go switch to switch or switch to router, and Cisco recommends that you always lock the speed and duplex when connecting between switches and routers. In the past, there were issues with the software in the switch that would cause auto-negotiate not to work, but for the most part i haven't seen to many issues with it not working in the past couple years. Not sure what you mean? Been using Cisco switches/routers since 1998, never had any major issues with them. But they are definitly not plug and play. They have their quirks, but usually it's a config problem or a software upgrade needed. [Mikrotik] RB411AH Ethernet Issues
I have a RB411AH up on a tower acting as a 2.4 AP. This morning i lost contact with the radio, but there was still power to the unit and the switch showed it was connected. Rebooted the RB, and i was able to access it again, but it was very slow. Decided to upgrade the software and copying the file locally took forever, very slow tranfer. Replaced the PoE and the ethernet surge, as well as the ethernet patch cables. Same problem, very slow data rates to the radio. I'm guessing it's a blown ethernet port on the board. Re: [Mikrotik] MT AP with Tranzeo CPE 5.8Ghz
As a followup to this, i noticed that the MT wants to start scanning channels at 5175Mhz. The tranzeo client does start looking for channels till 5275. I believe the tranzeo unit is correct and the MT is running out US specs for the 5Ghz ranges allowed. I have set the MT to use regulatory domain and choose United States, but that doesn't seem to have any affect on the frequencies available. Seems like a MT bug. Anyone have experience using a MT AP with 802.11a card connecting to Tranzeo TR-5x or TR-SL5 CPE radios? I'm curious if the MT supports the same channel widths as Tranzeo, ie 20Mhz, 10Mhz-10Mhz spacing, 10Mhz-5Mhz spacing. I would probably use a RB411AH with XR5 radio. Re: [Mikrotik] XR9 cards?
I would be very careful offering VoIP on Non LOS (900 Mhz) service. You will get very choppy performance due to the retransmits that are inherent in a non-line of site system. The only nlos system i've seen that handles voice fairly well is Canopy, and that has a lot to do with the sync they use. Measuring MOS like Josh suggested is a good start to see of the link will be able to handle a voice connection. 1) under load. If I have a single peer, then my throughput is 1/2. With 3 peers, 1/8th. 3) WDS doesn't need the MAC address to route the RF traffic, so it is transparent, if it is WDS-AP to WDS-AP. WDS is a poorly designed hack that sort of works for many cases. But it has many tradeoffs, the key one being throughout. Backhaul modes and meshing protocols add smarts to the routing of the traffic, and that is why they generally are transparent and fast. -Original Message- From: mikrotik-boun...@mail.butchevans.com [mailto:mikrotik-boun...@mail.butchevans.com] On Behalf Of Ryan Spott Sent: Wednesday, December 02, 2009 6:44 AM To: Mikrotik discussions Subject: [Spam Bayesian - ] - Re: [Mikrotik] Strange DUDE problem - Bayesian Filter detected spam Think of it like a HUB. Re: [Mikrotik] Wireless security....
We started out use WPA2 AES encryption along with MAC address authentication for all our clients. Over the years, I just found to many issues with using WPA between different vendors. So we've ditched doing any encryption. We rely on MAC authentication and we also switched over to using 10Mhz channels. We do DHCP for all our end users, and hand out static IPs via dhcp to those with different speed packages. I would like to someday start using RADIUS to do some authentication, but our current billing program makes it a chore to setup and use. Re: [Mikrotik] Upgrades
I have found that with MT software, they don't always list all the changes and fixes and/or enhancements in the change log. I do agree that the 3 week waiting period is good though, usually anything real bad is found by then. I like to keep the RB's current within reason. I never like getting to far behind the releases. I try to pick 1 unit i can "test" and then if all goes well for a few days, then do the rest. Terri Kelley wrote: So then I would have a question. Often you might have performance enhancements with a newer version that you may not at that time need, but might later. Been there. Also there have been a couple of instances where upgrading from an older version was more difficult than from something more current. So is it then better to maintain a current version rather than skip versions? Ok... I might slap myself here. I have also seen where the "new" version led to problems. So maybe better to wait and let others "test" that version? My concern is with the shared aspect of wireless. We also run cable plants and i always make sure BPI is enabled on the all modems. [Mikrotik] Cisco to Mikrotik IPIP Tunnel Routing (Bump)
(bump) I need to setup a tunnel between a Mikrotik box and a Cisco router. I already have the tunnel setup, and can ping each side. But i need to be able to access the private ip ranges (APs, clients, etc) that are connected to the MT box from the network that the Cisco is on. I know it's as simple as setting up the correct routes, but for the life of me, i'm just not getting the right combination. Here's a layout: Cisco(192.168.255.253) - (tunnel1) - Mikrotik(192.168.255.254) Need to access these subnets on the MT box: 172.16.50.0/24 172.16.9.0/24 I setup a route on the cisco as follows: ip route 172.16.50.0 255.255.255.0 tunnel1 ip route 172.16.9.0 255.255.255.0 tunnel1 I can then ping the 172.16.50.1 address from the Cisco, which is one of the addresses assigned to the MT box. But if i try to ping 172.16.50.5, which is a server beyond the MT box, it times out. I'm pretty sure i'm missing some routes on the MT box to make this happen. Any suggestions? -- Chris Gotstein Sr Network Engineer UP Logon/Computer Connection UP 500 N Stephenson Ave Iron Mountain, MI 49801 Phone: 906-774-4847 Fax: 906-774-0335 ch...@uplogon.com ___ Mikrotik mailing list Mikrotik@mail.butchevans.com http://www.butchevans.com/mailman/listinfo/mikrotik Visit http://blog.butchevans.com/ for tutorials related to Mikrotik RouterOS
