huh? travis doesn't lisp at all... "The Great Lisp Show of 98" In a battle of the bands, Modest Mouse destroys The Plan, however...if it was fought only with lead singers' dueling lisps...it's a toss up. Travis could certainly hang with Isacc on the lisp front. That would make for a killer comic book hero... He'd pull out a book full of S'ss and the evil speach teachers would cringe in pain... The D-Plan slow jams suck, but if you only listen to the fast jams you can understand why...Travis is a lyrical master, but he wears his ego on his sleeve. Isacc is a lyrical master, but he wears his ego between his legs... however, they're my top two favorite bands...and what's great about both, people love them or hate them...at least you can't be ambivalent. [MMouse]: Re: THE DISMEMBERMENT PLAN ! RESPECT IS DUE !
Just to build the momentum a bit more... I've seen the Plan 3 times on this tour and every show was fucking rad; from the now-famous sold out show at the middle-east in Boston (probably one of the 3 best shows I've ever seen) to their show at the Skinny in Portland, Maine (playing for a crowd of about 10 people) they rocked the Casbah and split the diff. Travis is totally nuts; he has this look in his eyes when he's performing that makes Isaac Brock look postively boring in comparison. Add to that the fact that D-Plan crowds are the coolest around and Eric is one of the nicest band members you could meet (perhaps second only to the mighty Robert Nastanovich) and you have the makings of the most vital act in music today. But that's just my opinion. -Original Message- From: Matt [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, May 23, 2000 11:42 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [MMouse]: THE DISMEMBERMENT PLAN ! Paul, I'm with you on the show at the blind pig, thanks for backing me up. and every good show i've been to has been a smoky experience. i think the one time i went to a smoke free show was when i was in seventh grade and i saw bryan adams through a pair of binoculars since the stage was so far away it couldn't been seen with the naked eye. I don't want to go back. I was kinda looking for the thong song or maybe some of issaac's sarcasm, but they just wanted to rock, and that was fine with me. russ, about the crazy gnome, you just gotta ask for it by name. throughout the show eric's eyes were glued to the floor until we started chanting "crazy gnome, crazy gnome" and he looked up with the biggest grin on his face, and issaac just loved it... Yeah, i saw them sunday night in louisville, and it was the best show ever. Isaac kept talking about the thong song, and he made fun of this one guy because he looked like a wrestler. I also got them to play truckers atlas, which wasn't on the set list. Isaac almost fell off the stage like 4 times, and we had to keep catching him. He also forgot where his beer was, so we had to point that out to him as well. Then they played a 20 minute version of tundra/desert. I can honestly say that it was a life altering experience. Basically, everyone on this list needs to see modest mouse. Even if it means killing four or five people. It's worth it. -matt

hey guys. i've sort of fallen behind in my reading but i thought i would go ahead and give you my perspective of the show at the metro. i was hoping to see some of you but it never happened. maybe next time. anyway, my friends and i were the very first people in line which helped us procure a front and center position pressed against the steel railing. i really enjoyed devil in a woodpile. they had wonderful stage presence and my roommate and i had quite a time conceptualizing what their home lives would be like. i thought that califone's music was exceptional but their performance was, at most, lacking. i could listen to their cd in the car but i have no need to ever see them live again. modest mouse was perfect. there really were few people gettin their dance on but it didn't really seem to affect the overall air of enjoyment and satisfaction in the room. it must have been a chicago thing. to assist jenny, yes at one point isaac did jump off the stage, right in front of me. he tried to keep singing lyrics towards the microphone but his voice was not reaching it, then he tried singing into the guitar pick up again but that also had little effect. then he writhed and played for a bit longer and returned to the stage. overall, i thought the show was great. like others, i could have stood to hear trailer trash or tundra/desert but i really enjoyed the new songs that they played and i found the balance between new music and old to be executed wonderfully. i only hope to see them again and be just as pleased. in regards to the T-shirts being sold. they weren't modest mouse t-shirts. they show, dubbed "noise pop 2000" was sponsored by some ".com" company and it was shirts branded with their logo and the title of the show that were being sold. i bought one only to have a memento since my will call tickets were not there, only my name on a list so i didn't have a commemorative ticket stub. anyway, rambled on too long. later. izzy Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
[MMouse]: re: beer snobs.
To me there is something very scary about beer that cost less than 4 bucks (unless, of course, you like malt liqueur). i grew up in the land of piss beer and when I came up to the northwest i just couldn't see the point in drinking that kind of beer anymore. i agree with matt who said that a beer snob is someone who simply like beer that tastes good. i drink lots of black bier and the selection here is prime (Guinness is still my favorite though). Also, all of the "beer snobs" I know only talk about beer to other "beer snobs", unless of course you strike up a conversation with one on that line. I do agree though that the worlds best beer comes from across the atlantic (mainly Ireland). As far as Portland is concerned, if you think that this city is full of arrogant people then you really haven't been to other cities. In my humble opinion this is one of the most friendly, laid back, cities to exist. It just might be the most. The east coast for sure has nothing but cities that ignore you unless you know where to go, and any of most of the others people are just to busy to notice or care about you. I do like New Orleans though (atleast, only for a couple of weeks at the most). I guess they thought that was pretty cool or something because it's in a Modest Mouse song. Fvckclevo, if you want to meet up at the show that's cool. I dunno what shirt I'll wear or stuff like that. Sadly there were only about 10 people at the show, but I have to rank it among the top 5 shows I've been to. Everyone ifn the club was completely blown away. It was great. I know what you mean... little mistakes that completely discredit the author's knowledge of what they're writing about. The worst is when that sort of thing happens in a record review; the critic's entire argument just completely falls apart because a little mistake reveals that they have no idea what they're talking about. I read a review of Pavement's "Terror Twilight" and the critic was bashing it going on about how Pavement were boring and stale and irrelevent in 1999... and then he goes on to say something about "lead singer Mark Ibold"; you just want to say "ok, nevermind... forget I asked your opinion". -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, May 11, 2000 12:45 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [MMouse]: Re: rollingstone In a message dated 5/11/00 12:44:20 AM Pacific Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: > In accordance with their user regulations, NAPSTER has banned 300,000 > Metallica fans from its site for allegedly trading copyrighted songs by the > band illegally it's a program that they're blocked from; not a site! why can't these people take two seconds to factcheck. sorry, i know this is prolly dead for most of you, but it just annoys the hell out of me. star

It remains the most amazing thing I had ever seen in my life. The middle east upstairs was packed, and NO ONE would speak. Everyone was dead silent, completely abosrbed in what was going on around them. There were about 11 people on stage, and 3 projectors broadcast images of people and streets and anything else in black and white onto a screen behind them. It was a wall of sound. So if you ever get a chance to see them, please do. Joey

[MMouse]: RE: metallica eats pieces of shit like you for breakfast
I am all for a metallica boycott site, I posted the rather lengthly Metallica v. Napster diatribe on the MM List v001.n842, anything I can do to help I will. I used to be a big fan back in H.S. (yes, I have the courage to admit it) but now they seem to be sniveling, whimpering (I hate to be trite) puppets to the big labels. Also, speaking of big labels it dawned on me that metallica is on Electra Records which is a subsidiary of Warner Brothers, which is if memory serves me correctly the first major label to cave-in to Tipper Gore's PRMC (Parent's Music Resource Center, the group that is responsible for rating the content of the albums and placing the Parental Advisory labels, or Tipper Stickers on them). So in essence they didn't like free speech then (remember the raid on Jello Biafra's house?!?)and they don't like it now. Rick "I had to rant (again)" Miller __ Do You Yahoo!? Re: [MMouse]: Re: emo
anything can be emo. it has been associated to a certain sound now though. on jade tree pedro the lion is emo to me so is promse ring. then there is braid on polyvinyl. and joan of arc and jets to brazil and burning airlines but who cares anyway music is music... geez this whole "emo" classification is messed up jesse

Re: [MMouse]: Re: emo
uh oh, i think i opened a rather large can of worms. anyone is free to debate this with me off the list, because i doubt many care, but i contend (along with a vocal minority) that emo is long dead and in the ground. i dont really want to take the time to explain that comment right now, but like i said, if you want to chat about it, email me. Re: [MMouse]: Re: Mendoza lyrics
heres a newsflash for ya, dude. i own the cd containing the lyrics i ripped. thats right, its sitting right here, alphabetized in between the new mercury program and maximillian colby. its okay if i dont like lyrics, you know? just becuase i dont like the ones on that song and think they are far from being anything more profound that some 7th grader's try at poetry doesnt mean i am automatically in need of a "fuck you" and an accusation of listening to strictly polyvinyl and jade tree records bands. it is possible, even though you seem to know that youre music is better than mine, for me to listen to both. what a concept. and i hate to burst your bubble, but there are no "emo" bands on either jade tree or polyvinyl records. never were. that genre died in 1995 when portraits of past broke up. and im actually sorry that i have the mendoza line cd. for the most part, its pretty bland. even worse, the lyrics that were quoted are almost identical to about three other songs on the album. kindercore made a good, good move. RE: [MMouse]: Re: Mendoza lyrics
Right back at cha. Without music, lyrics are poetry, and as poetry, that song is shit. If this were a poetry discussion board, I would have posted a crit. and probably said something disparaging about fourteen year olds with word processors. This isn't a poetry discussion board, and I don't think anyone wants it to become one, so we said something cynical and let it die. As for rummaging through my CD collection to find my less "intellectually stimulating" selections, I didn't post "lyrics of the day" to an open forum. I thought those lyrics were crap, and I said so. I did not (nor did anyone) pass any judgment over the person who originally posted them, as you seem so quick to do of us. Check yourself before you wreck yourself. Title: Re: Mendoza lyrics He's right! Some of my favorite lyrics are absolutely meaningless without the soul and music to back them up.
