[MMouse]: anyone need extra tickets to the Columbus show?

2000-09-16 Thread Jamie Clark

Due to poor communication between my friends and I, we ended up with 9
tickets for 7 people for the show tonight in Columbus.

They cost us $16.50 each, and are at least $19 each today through
ticketmaster. If anybody sitting in around in the great midwest needs 2
tickets for $20 total, email me back ASAP and we can set up the swap.

Remember, the show doesnt start till 8:15pm EST, so anyone of you
sitting around in Detroit, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Cleveland or Huntington
can come see a show still.

First come,Fisrt Serve.

hmmm... i enjoyed reading that. i remember that "i can't believe i'm here

is
 a pretty unbelievable experience.

it was, totally. i think that being in a smaller area really made them
more eager to play and do stuff that they wouldn't do on a regular basis,
like polar opposites. supposedly they played it all flat, and didn't
really try too hard with it..but fuck that, they played it, and it sounded
good to me.
haha i wasn't really sure if isaac is nice or not, i was nervous. i
thought maybe he'd grab my camera and break it if i asked, but he
didn't...people just talk shit, and i wish they wouldn't, because it gave
me a horrible impression of how he might be.
great show, and as long as the pics turn out, i'll have them scanned by
friday at the very latest. i'm lazy, otherwise they'd be up by tuesday ;)

[MMouse]: Upcoming Austin shows/MM in Missouri

2000-09-15 Thread Toni Rickman

If I'm going to have to miss MM in Ft. Worth, then at least I'll get to make
up for it with these other shows:

Emo's:
9/22/00 - Get Up Kids, the anniversary, koufax
9/24/00- man or astroman?
10/4/00- Joan of Arc
10/6/00- 764 Hero
10/9/00-ATDI, MCD
10/14/00-Les Savy Fav, Elliot
10/29/00-Pedro the Lion, Death Cab for Cutie

and The Promise Ring is going to be at Stubbs on Oct. 30, I believe.

I must say the MM show in Columbia, MO was pretty fabulous. The Blue Note
has such good sound. They definitely could have played longer, since they
stopped with like an hour to spare before the bar closed. I was
disappointed they didn't rock out at the ends of Trailer Trash and Whenever
I Breath out. He only screamed into the pickups for a second in Cowboy Dan,
and that's always my favorite part of seeing them live. All in all, it was
a great show, but I'm not sure if it was worth the long ass road trip. What
am I saying? Of course it was. I got to see all my old friends, and ran
into a bunch at the show that I hadn't even thought about in years. Major
highlights were Talking Shit, Waydown and Teeth like God's Shoeshine. Oh
yeah, I missed the Shins, but 764-HERO kind of bored the shit out of me. I
guess I just wasn't into it. I was too hungover from the night before
(which I soon remedied by drinking more) and too anxious to see MM.

Thank you, Come again

I believe they're still booking it. I know they'll be here in Bologna
(Italy) on Nov 4th and they should play Milan on the 5th and Rome on the 3rd
(but i'm not 100% sure about these two).
Probably the best place to check (not quite yet as I've said because the
dates are not defined) is the european matador site.

2000-09-14 Thread Chad McQuay

Your words are manna from heaven, dusty. And to think I've been squandering
my hard earned dollars buying up all the albums of bands I don't like. If
only you had told me sooner, I wouldn't have all these damn Shaquille O'Neil
rap albums laying around. Well, things will be different from here on out.
Gone are the days of giving a band a second chance to redeem themselves,
with the idea being that they might have matured or evolved or just had an
off record the last time out. From here on, I will listen to one song off
of one record, and if I don't like it, screw the band, they suck.

I would like to show my utmost appreciation by mailing you my Relationship
Of Command to save you a trip to the record store. And take my Vaya while
you're at it, so you can have TWO copies of the brilliant EP.

Okay, I know probably a million of you mofos are gonna jump down my throat
for saying this, but what is so great about ATDI? I don't get it at all.
Yes, they are a lot of fun live, but every time I pick up one of their
albums, I'm inevitably disappointed. Case in point, last night after work
I
picked up "Relationship of Command," stuck it in as I jumped onto the
freeway, and halfway down the 405 it was replaced by Pedro the Lion
(incidentally, the show you should be going to Dusty), to help soothe my
grated nerves. I was hoping for something a little more worthwhile than
Vaya. Instead, I was given more Rage riffs. Say what you want, but this
band is not original in any sense of the word, although it is amusing to
see
them jumping around with those afros.

[MMouse]: RE: Sing Along Party Songs

2000-09-14 Thread Zach_Douglas

So you want some sing along songs for da party?

If you can't go buy some K-tel albums from the thrift store (If you have the
means, I highly
recommend you pick up High Voltage).

If not, napster for these:

Andrea True Connection - More More More
Happy Birthday Ralph - Atom and His Package
Pizzicato 5 - twiggy twiggy vs james bond
Fantastic Plastic Machine - Luxury (english or japanese are fun), You Must
Learn All Night is fun too.
Just about any song from Loverboy?
I don't know if the 80's is your era, but if you want feel good music dig in
to some Prince,
Cars, Hall and Oats.
Good call with the Funky Town. Watch out for the Psuedo Echo version though.
Stay with Lipps, INC.
Devo - Whip It
Van Halen like I'M YOUR ICE CREAM MAN.

Look on napster for words like "party" "disco" "gimp wear". You'll be
surprised at what songs
come up that you forgot all about.

Good luck with that Party

Say what you want, but this
band is not original in any sense of the word, although it is amusing to
see
them jumping around with those afros.

even better than "alow moving riot for zero kanada" is "slow
riot for a new zero kanada" ;)

all hilarity aside, i like "slow riot" quite a lot more than
"F#A# oo". it just seems more dramatic and theatrical, as well
as having a clearer point to it.

Dude, it's not even a choice at all! You go see BE and Pedro
and they are
going to be all
confused and dishelved onstage because there is going to be this
pounding,
thunderesque
sound coming from miles away and it's going to be Drive In and
Murder City
pounding it out.

I'd go with ATDI and MCD just because it will be more fun. I'd
only go with
a show like the
other one if I thought I could reach some transcendental state,
but those
bands wouldn't do it
for me like that, so I'd opt for rocking, and rolling, and what
not. I'm
not saying they would
be bad, but I wouldn't take it over the Hard Rock Experience
because to me
that's what the live
show is all about.

Did I start this message with, "Dude"?

Did anybody record this show?

-andrew-

On Mon, 11 Sep 2000 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

First thing to mention, and I don't think anyone on the Mouse list has
brought this up, is what an interesting opening band The Shins are. They're
like a very very early (circa 1976) Talking Heads, and their sound was tight
enough Sunday night to make people start howling. Unfortunately, their CD
EP/7" doesn't carry any of the strength and eclecticism of their live show.
Here's hoping the new release on Sub-Pop will be better.
I've seen 764-HERO on better nights, because their bass seemed to be
mixed up too high for this show. You know how sometimes a band like Bardo
Pond can kind of overwhelm you with low frequencies til you want to fall
asleep? That was kind of the HERO show last night. James B. was full of
energy, though. But it's become more apparent over time that Polly, their
drummer, is the backbone of 764-HERO, she was great.
Modest Mouse, though, was in top form, and played what was essentially a
greatest hits collection, starting with "Trailer Trash" as the opener. Yes,
they played "Talkin Shit About a Pretty Sunset," and they also played "The
Way Down" from their early Fruit period. Isaac was in as about an animated
mood as he ever gets. The songs I remember, in no particular order, were
Convenient Parking, Doin' the Cockroach (great version), Cowboy Dan (ditto),
Dramamine, Breakthrough, Might, Third Planet, Dark Center of the Universe,
Tiny Cities Made of Ashes, Alone Down There, Wild Packs of Family Dogs, Paper
Thin Walls, and Lives. Their encore (only one, about 20 minutes long), was a
drawn-out medley of Broke, Truckers Atlas, and Tundra/Desert. Great show, a
full sellout with people everywhere, I got toasted.

God Damn, that was an incredible show. I can't believe
how great Modest Mouse was last night. There set list
was awesome and the best versions of Doing the
Cockroach, Teeth like god's shoeshine, and Cowboy Dan
I ever heard. I think Isaac screamed in his guitar on
all three of these. They played a very good mix of old
and new stuff and even though I do like the new album
a lot more now, I still got an even better
appreciation of if after hearing some of the songs
live once again. The set list was something like..
(not in order)

3rd planet
Wild Pack of Family Dogs
Paper thin Walls
Doing the Cockroach
Talking shit about a pretty sunset
I came as a rat
Teeth like god's shoeshine
Trailer Trash
Perfect Disguise
Tiny cities made of ashes
Breakthrough
Cowboy Dan

I think there might have been more, but my mind is
still a little cloudy. That would be a great show to
have been mp3'd.

So, did anyone else think to record the Bumbershoot shows? Well, I went
sunday and monday. Sunday I recorded Glen Philips acoustic (Ex. Toad the Wet
Sprocket front man) and the Posies acoustic. Then Monday I recorded Juno and
Modest Mouse. It was a good couple days. The whole MM thing was crazy. The
line was damn long. I just cut at the very front, right in front of the
cops. They didn't say crap. haha. I got in and turned on my MD recorder just
as MM came out. Perfect. It was good but I like MM at a smaller venue for
sure. It's just not the same when you can't see their faces and there are
mashing retards hurting people.

[MMouse]: MM @ Bumbershoot

2000-09-05 Thread Adam Kind

First of all I was shocked at the number of people that went to the
Modest Mouse show. Most of the audience I don't believe had heard of the
band before that day though. Apparently there was some guy break dancing to
MM songs. How you can do that is beyond me but my friends assure me it
happened.

Their setlist was pretty mundane to say the least. They took a couple
requests but nothing to terribly odd. They played Shit Luck which I haven't
heard them play in a couple years. I was a bit dissapointed they didn't play
Cowboy Dan though. I'm sure they're probably pretty tired of that song by
now though. They didn't even have a encore... Hope they have more energy for
the rest of the tour.

I must say the sound guys did a great job at the Key. For once the
guitar/bass didn't drown out Isaac's voice.

Overall it was a great show, however, I miss Modest Mouse's small venue
charm.

does anyone know anything about sean, the singer of ink and dagger, dying?

I can't say I know much, but this is part of an email from 4040 productions
in Philly:

"Hello. Before I begin to type-out and report any irrelevant show or venue
news, I want to say a few words about a very close friend, who we just
recently lost in Philadelphia. For the first time in my life, I have been
forced to take a look at my priorities, and reevaluate my goals and plans in
my life. Relationships with friends, family and fellow acquaintances have all
been reexamined this evening, after it seems they all been taken for granted
lately. Within this so called "scene" of ours, it is very rare that actual
tragedy strikes us, especially at our young age. We are often lead with a
false sense of security as we feel invisible against many of the normal day
to day problems. Often times a "major disaster" is a trivial event such as a
band canceling or breaking up, a venue getting shut down or moved, or a fight
breaking out at the end of a show. But now a far greater incident has taken
place. It is often cliche to mention such feelings at an opportune times such
as these, but at this time, I absolutely feel it is necessary. Many knew of
him or at were at least familiar with his antics or persona. Whether it be
good or bad, he always had a niche for being the constant center of attention
and remained in the spotlight. Perhaps we all watched, never blinking because
we were all fascinated by what he was going to create or produce for us next.
Our friend was always one step ahead of us, leading us to new grounds where
we were shocked, amazed and thrilled at what possibly laid ahead of us. Only
a few people realized how unique and special this friend was. Without a doubt
he was one of the most intelligent, sophisticated and brilliant people I have
ever come across. Our friend constantly pushed the envelope, and challenged
not only himself, but our own selves. He personally was obsessed with
creating personal inner change for all of us and envisioned a time , when we
could all got together, no matter what our differences , to fight for the
causes we believed in. He never rested on his laurels and sat back to
reflect. Our friend was a constant achiever and pushed the envelope up until
his final days. I don't want to romanticize our friends life, and make it
seem that he was the perfect angel, he without a doubt made some horrible
decisions, but I feel that everyone should know about how unique our friend
was before passing judgment on him without ever knowing him completely.

It is said that you only meet a small handful of truly special individuals in
a lifetime,. And now for the first time in my experiences. I can believe it.
Our friend was certainly one of a kind, who deserved far more than he ever
received. Looking back to only to last Thursday, I remember an enthusiastic
and excited kid who was telling me about his new job traveling across the
country to college campuses, while taking his new concepts and plans for
music on the road, to execute out for when he returned to Philadelphia. I
spent the majority of that evening with him, as we both traded ideas back and
forth about how we could make Philadelphia and our friends a more inclusive
creative personal group. Our friend continued with courage and confidence, as
he attempted to introduce us all to new ideas and imagery. Our friend
ironically enough authored a zine by the title of "Dead by 23", which many of
us still have in our dresser drawers. It was a joke of sorts, but this friend
hinted at how he actually believed he would die young and that is respectable
in its own sort of way.

Please don't ask for details, stories, or accounts of what actually
happened.. I am sure you will hear soon down this grapevine for greater or
for worse. There will be attempts to collect any e-mail, letters or cards you
may want to pass on to the family of our dearly beloved friend. So they make
sure they knew how much this young man meant to all of us. We will greatly
miss him.

Sean Patrick McCabe
1972-2000

may he rest in peace."

Has anyone seen that show "Hang Time" with Dick Buttkiss as the coach?
Quality stuff. I especially love how, when they're playin' "ball", you'll
notice that the basketball hoops are only like 6 feet high, so the
characters can be badasses and slam-dunk... Anybody remember when there used
to be actual CARTOONS played on Saturday Mornings? Those were the days...

P.S. Did someone say Dustin Diamond and the guy who plays Mr. Belding are no
longer on Saved By the Bell?! Say it ain't so! Man, that show has kept these
two employed in "show business" for about a decade. What a shame if it's

if you can't find a ride, you should take a train or bus to providence and
then just ask kids for a ride back home to boston. my friends did that for a

got's a few things that i think that are worth ranting about

i hope more than a few of you have mtv and actually watch it because it's
mind numbing... really, if i want to think about nothing it turn to mtv... so
before work yesterday i wanted to catch a little \m/RETURN.OF.THE.ROCK\m/...
and of course, since limp bizcit is rock... anyway, the break stuff video
came on... and it's so rap video, but this time with white boys and bmx
bikes... i hope you all see how lame it is... it's kickin it rap style
because the stupid fucks sat down and thought about how many of their friends
they could stick in front of the camera... so anyway, this one chick, who is
obviously cool and probably big into !extreme sports! totally lifts up her
shirt... how cool is that? i mean i think it's so cool that she got the
chance to be in a video that would get major rotation and she came up with
the idea to get so angry and taken away by the music that she showed me her
boobies... i swear to god that this girl has to be the stupidest fucking
snatch ever born, and she's probably been bedded by all of the limpettes... i
hope i accidently run you over.

i love Tnbc on saturday mornings... once again, filth that feeds nothing but
the growing part of my brain that makes me want to pick my nose, look at what
i found, and then eat it with glee... someday watching too much tv will
probably lead me to eat my own shit, just like a cute little puppy...

couple more favourite words:
**sharp... man, that shirt looks sharp.. my boss says it alot, it's caught on
**faux... i decided since i've spent my life getting my name mispronounced, i
should bestow the same fate upon my oh-so-fortunate offspring... how's about
maux faux? i think the kid would like it if you ask me...
**cheesedick... my dad seriously said this to one of my dance dates... if you
thought i was filthy, my dad is like 80 times worse... as we're walking out
the door, my dad yells "now don't be a cheesedick" to my date... how the fuck
am i supposed to look pretty when i have a look of ass-clenching terror on my
face? could anyone please tell me what the hell a cheesedick even is? is it
something manufactured by hickory farms?
