I think it's called Lolita Ya Ya, it's on the soundtrack. I've got it on
vinyl cuz I'm wacky like that, but they did a nice reissue with dialogue on
CD and they probably have it on Amazon Dot Commie.

I love the Kubrick version also, there are a lot of great things.. yes..
Clair Quilty is the major difference and of course Lolita herself is
different, but it captured the spirit of the book and that's something a lot
of adaptions fail to do.

The thing with Hip-Hops shows seems too be little bang for the buck.. the
last few big shows around here like Pharcyde and Kool Keith.. they show up
and do like 30 mins of songs and leave and it costs like $20-$25 for the
show at a club no less... maybe it's just Austin.. .

--Last time I saw Pharcyde was like 4 or 5 years ago at the Blue Note in
Columbia, MO, and it cost $15.00, and they played for 30 min., just like you
said. I was so pissed. The opening and closing act was this DJ, who was
really good, but he played for free every Thurs. night at this other bar in
town. I felt completely ripped off and swore I'd never see them again. So,
it's not just Austin, unless maybe it's just college towns.

[MMouse]: to people still responding to the led zeppelin thread

2000-07-24 Thread LDierck

this is all i have to say about this whole led zepplin thing, espically your
remarks in general amy... or maybe just you getting pissed off about other's
remarks... this is a mailing list.. it's a segment of the population, a
segment that enjoys modest mouse and probably other types of music. you
aren't posting emails to yourself or to robots... it's just like society, for
an easier example, let's use high school... it is hard to state an opinion
(no matter how intelligent or highly idiotic) without someone trying to argue
the point. people tend to have opinions and they tend to voice their
opinions in various ways (bumper stickers, t shirts, votes, soap boxes)...
did you even think that once you brought up a point that it would be looked
over like so many piles of dirty laundry? i'm not real sure how many people
there are on this list, but i think bruce said that there were around 500
people. so i'm going to make a guess and say that among 500 people something
that you say would rub someone the wrong way and, perhaps, make them want to
respond to your comment. now i'm not sure about you, but if i make any
comment, no matter how (un)controversial, i plan on getting a rebuttal. if i
don't want a rebuttal from anyone, i keep it inside. so one wonders why
someone makes the comment that led zepplin sucks, and from what i remembered
it was pretty unfounded (correct me if i am wrong...) and at the same time,
you get tired of people attacking your comments. if i go about standing on a
street corner and yelling that black people deserve nothing but a beating
from me, i expect to get a reaction. granted, not everyone is going to like
led zepplin and it is poor to compare led zepplin to me beating black people,
but it's good enough for my point... see my dear, saying on a MUSIC mailing
list about a fairly revolutionary band is less than the shit that flows from
your ass, is asking for trouble. here's a suggestion: if you don't want shit
for your opinions (that people tend to not agree with), then don't voice
them if you don't really know jack shit about what you are talking about,
don't say anything... or ask questions... rasie your hand, wait to be called
on, and then open your mouth... don't stand there with the lighter fluid and
the matches in your hand wondering how your neighbors car caught fire...

oh, and phil... fabulous usage of the word cunt... made me roll

no, princess amy already apologized and explained that what she did was
stupid and tiresome in her email which she will now repost:

as much as i love getting chewed a new asshole, i'm weak, so i'm gonna stop
this asshole chewing right here! now this blesblok8 fellow had a good
point to his email. he pointed out that i'm an idiot (or at least that i
say stupid things!), that my opinions are wrong (see previous implication.
it's essentially the same as this one), and that i rile people up. he's
wrong about 2/3 of these implications, however: no, i'm not an idiot.
when not writing meaningless emails to mailing lists, i actually say stuff
that i care about! second, my opinions aren't wrong - that's why they're
opinions. there's no way that they can be wrong. but he was right that i
rile people up, and i apologize for that. i say things that i believe in
my own personal experience to be true, and these words ends up getting
blown out of great proportion because i throw around words carelessly for
no good reason. do i do this with the intent of pissing everyone off? no.
do i do this because i'm an idiot? no. i do it because i simply don't
care, and thus i can never seem to learn my lesson to just *keep my mouth
shut.* i should add that i do really believe the opinions that i give,
otherwise this email will just make me sound like i have no point. so just
for the record, i do believe this stuff that i write. i start things up
not thinking shit is gonna hit the fan, but then of course it does, and for
once even i find myself thinking "god amy, you did something completely
tiresome and not worth all the crap that came along with it." have i, in
my personal experience, seen a baby come out with disabilities because its
mother drank alcohol during the pregnancy? no. that doesn't mean it
hasn't happened. do i think led zeppelin is a good band that DIDN'T spawn
cockrock? hell no, but these things that i write are my opinions and i've
always tried to stress that as much as possible..not to mention that i can
acknowledge the fact that other people do like led zeppelin and i won't
hold it against them for that. so in a nutshell, i was offended when you
said that i don't know what my opinions are, or that i'm saying stupid
shit. how organized do you expect people to be online? do you,
personally, write emails that are elegantly written and have all the
information that you wish to give? because i'll tell you what, after
almost four years of reading and responding to email, i can't keep up 100%
anymore but i truly do envy anyone who can do that.
basically what i'm trying to say is that even i know this time it was a
little tiresome, and it hit me not only in an online sense but in an
offline sense. it made me want to become more of an elegant writer and say
things in taste, and that just because you feel a certain way due to
personal experience, it may seem ridiculous to other people. the best i
can do is to point out that there is always that choice to just ignore me
and people like me, who simply don't think or care about what they write
before they write it. i mean i don't feel like i made a huge ass out of
myself or anything, because i can't fuel my own fire by just saying "led
zeppelin blows goats." i have other people to thank for that, you know?
;) regardless it was something that could've been avoided. with that
said, don't worry about getting any attacks, because i'm sure most everyone
agrees with you - even i do. but consider the possibility that not
everyone sits around their computer organizing their thoughts perfectly
just to avoid pissing people they don't know off.
i'll leave you all with a quote now by peter from office space:
"it's not that i'm lazy, it's that i just don't care."

[MMouse]: another old bands post

2000-07-24 Thread horatio gomez alonzo

I could be wrong here and it might have already been
said but when listening to music from another time
period, one needs to consider the context in which it
was made. Modern music, espically within the last
decade, has basically been created in the same stable
social atmosphere. Sure, MM is kick ass and all, but
is there anything they've said or played that hasnt
been said or played before? Are they revolutionary?
Do they mark something momentous and new in the worlds
of art or sound? As much as I like MM, i'd have to
answer those questions with a ...well, not really. I
think people forget sometimes that when artists like
chuck berry, elvis, the beatles, the who, black
sabbath, zepplin, the clash, and even early eighties
bands like minor threat, black flag, or maybe big
black (not to mention a million others) were making
music, thought, and performance one, society was a
much different, much more constricting and
confrontational place. Consider music in regards to
when it was made and how those people were pushing
their limits, the way people push them now. I mean,
when you really consider how close minded society was
when chuck berry was rockin out, or how one generation
was finally discovering freedom from the old guard
with the beatles as they came of age, it seems like
such a more beautiful and admirable, almost magical
thing. People fighting to just be able to express
their confusion and exasperation from life. I know, i
know, no one was disrespecting the past or what they
did, but i just think maybe you should think about
music not in relation to what it sounds like today or
five years ago, but in relation to what else was
around at the time that it was made. Dont look at
something and think "cockrock hair band" when that
term never even existed until after they were gone.

About the lyrics..I started to write down some that I really really
really love, and as I wrote, more and more equally great ones kept flooding

[MMouse]: RE: Hip Hop Shows

2000-07-24 Thread Zach_Douglas

To the guy talking about the Biz show and all.. I would go and watch biz
markee eat pies or wash clothes or whatever, he's like the Frank Zappa of
Rap except he makes the music with his mouth and not his guitar but his
mouth doesn't want to kill your momma.

The thing with Hip-Hops shows seems too be little bang for the buck.. the
last few big shows around here like Pharcyde and Kool Keith.. they show up
and do like 30 mins of songs and leave and it costs like $20-$25 for the
show at a club no less... maybe it's just Austin.. this town is whiter than
white and maybe they show up and see all these stupid white kids and say we
got the money so let's get the hell out of here.

Of course, I know white males make up probably 80% of hip hop's audience
now, but I'm not kidding, Austin is really whitey-centric. You throw a
stone over your shoulder, you're going to knock out some white kid with
baggy pants and an Adidas visor.

I did want to see Fife, but I'm not that down with weekday shows that are
$20+.

Ha, for all who couldn't see Fife, here are some lyrics. I hope you feel
better.

Get on the board lay down the track and I'll do ten laps

WAIT! when did I EVER say that these 2 bands sound the same???
never, that's when! all i said was that the way a musician looks
has no bearing on the sound/quality of the music. i know i said
i like them both, but i never said it was because they sound the same.

2000-07-24 Thread Dan Reynolds

I thought the new Lolita was a fine movie, not great, but compared to the only stinky
Kubrick movie I've ever seen, it was great. At least Claire Quilty made sense in the
Lynne version. In the Kubrick one they just kind of abandoned the character and made
him into a vehicle for Peter Sellers to act like...himself, as usual (ie., to take
little steps when he walked and to never blink). The only good things about the
Kubrick
version are the way the camera tracks through walls, and the theme.

L-la-la-la

They're using it in a car commercial now, for some reason.

[MMouse]: catching up

2000-07-24 Thread Philip Smoker

I'm almost glad I haven't been reading all of the
digests lately because some very young and/or very
opinionated individuals (who seem to think very highly
of themselves given their inherent tendency to
redefine and dictate the basic paradigms of the
history of music, specifically this one particular
genre) have taken it upon themselves to belittle some
of the very greatest rock and/or roll musicians of all
time. And I guess I would be more inclined to compose
some kind of rebuttal if these people hadn't made
themselves look so foolish and narrow-minded in the
first place that I don't have the heart to dignify
their self-righteous drivel with a direct response.
But I will take this opportunity to say that in
general, I'm very disappointed. I fear the generation
that's growing up behind me right now, the things that
are influencing them and their contorted world view.
But as long as they all continue to remain so stoic
and oblivious in this blossoming information age, I
never have to fear a timely youth revolt in my life.
They'll all be too busy updating their blogs.

I worship John Bonham and Jimmy Chamberlain.
Who will complete this holy trinity, this sacred
trifecta?

[MMouse]: RE: General Stuff

2000-07-24 Thread Zach_Douglas

This is my weekly Monday post to the list. I read the group at home, but
for some reason I can't post to it from there so all this stuff goes by and
by the time I get here it's gone.

BUT, let's recap:

You kids and the stickers have been a lot of fun.. the best part was when
Ken said, "I'm looking in your directions.." and also Grace saying,
"Unsubscribe, please help me unsubscribe".

I really enjoy you guys, even in tough times like the great isaac sticker
debaucle. This is one of the better list serves I've been on. I'm on an
exotic music mail list that is fun, but so many people and so many posts I
can't keep up at all.

Loud Venues - I hate loud venues.. Emo's in Austin is our loud venue where
you DON'T want to see a quiet band. My friends saw Pedro the Lion and they
said they were befuddled the whole time because they couldn't hear
themselves playing and singing. People are loud, drunk, and rude there..
sure.. if Murder City Devils are playing that's fine.. but when Isaac played
as Ugly Cassanova or when Daniel Johnston played.. people are downright
fucking rude to act like they are watching the band when they are really
just showing up to be cool and run their jaws about what they are doing
after the show to be cool, and where they are going tmr to be cool, and what
they will do to be cool next week. LAME.
-

Movies - I never saw the new lolita. Meant to, it was supposed to follow
the book more closely. It did have a soft focus showtime look to it. I love
the Kubrick Lolita.. lots of innuendo as it was too dirty to be outright
obvious when it was made. They says things like, "It's your cherry pie" and
"I love extra mayonaise!". Gross.

I think there was a Lolita (movie) reference on the simpsons the other
night.. one of my fav new episodes.. the handgun episode (a gun is not a
weapon marge! It's a tool.. like a harpoon.. or uh.. an alligator. you just
need more education on the subject!)... homer shoots the picture of marge
accidently.. it's the same bullet holes as the picture in lolita gets shot
with at the beggining Saw Chuck and Buck this weekend.. Anyone? Anyone?
Also Lawrence of Arabia in the theater! Wow.. it was great but it ended too
soon at 3.5 hours.. it didn't feel like it was ending and it was filmus
interuptus at that point... Watched Trust on video... perhaps should be
mentioned under dry movies I love.. but it has more humor and music than
your average dry movie.. still love it... Hartley's best.. is there any
disputing?

Leigh, I have 1/2 of that tape done. I had computer problems yesterday. My
flux capacitor came lose from my hyperdrive engine. P.S. I'd dress up like
a goat for you anytime, because I do it all the time anyways while washing
dishes and doing chores. So call me, on a line, call me call me, anytime.

[MMouse]: warped tour bullshit

2000-07-20 Thread KneeXsocks

I hate people.

explanation: I worked at the Warped Tour today. I was there with a radio
station, and I couldn't believe how many wanna-be punk kids gave us shit for
being "corporate." Did these morons not realize that the Warped Tour is now
complete bullshit? In Boston it was sponsored by a local mainstream radio
station for fuck's sake. Plus, all the shitty bands that played are
radio-friendly rip offs of good bands. And some of them just fucking suck
(bif naked).

If I never see another pre-pubescent punk kid clutching a $25 concert ticket
that was probably purchased by his parents (who probably work for a
corporation) I'll be thrilled. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind fighting for
a cause that you believe in. But these kids constantly contridict
themselves.. I'm sure when their parents put dinner in front of them, they
don't stop to bitch about where their parents got the money from.

on the bright side: nofx was good. they're funny as hell. oh yeah, and green
day set their drums on fire.

no more complaining,
mer.

and thanks for the stickers again. some of us do appreciate it. we also like
to say please and thank you.

2000-07-20 Thread John

Zach - You kick ass. I couldn't have mentioned a better set of movies...however, I am
going to try to
add four to your list...

the spanish prisoner. drama. written by david mamet. starring steve martin in his
most unfunny role
ever - perhaps his most brilliant work. the acting is great, and the plot and
characters are even
better! you know how when you watch a bad horror movie you always feel this urge to
yell at the
characters on screen? like "no, don't go in there, you'll die!" well, you'll want to
do that during
this movie, but in a really good way! just an incredible movie, and one of the best
plots ever. i'm
usually not a plot person. i'm definately more for bottle rocket than i am rushmore,
but this movie has
one of the best plots ever. fecking incredible.

homicide. drama/mystery. written by david mamet. notice a theme here? starring
william h. macy and
joe mantegna. mantenga turns in a gem of a performance in this film about jews and
anti-semitism in new
york city. mantenga is a jewish cop torn between his heritage and his badge. again, a
brilliant plot,
but who would expect anything less from david mamet! not me. however brilliant the
plot, it takes a
back seat to the development of joe mantegna's character. david mamet rules.

lulu on the bridge. drama. written/directed by acclaimed american author, paul
auster. a quasi theme
continues - literary film! starring harvey keitel, mira sorvino(swoon!), willem
dafoe, and gina
gershon. mira and harvey are the best parts of this movie, esp. mira who is brilliant
and as always,
beautiful. the movie is more like one of paul auster's novels than it is like his
other two movies
(smoke and blue in the face) which were mildly disappointing. so if you like paul
auster's novels,
you'll LOVE this movie. this is often available at blockbuster...but it's hard to
find.

the music of chance. drama/mystery. based on the novel by paul auster. the novel is
probably my
second favorite book ever (trailing only saul bellow's henderson the rain king) and
the movie doesn't
disappoint. starring james spader and mandy patinkin, the movie truly captures the
self exploration of
the books protagonist. i suggest you watch this movie if you want to be truly moved
by the inner
struggles of a real person.

that's all from me. i'll go crawl back into a corner with my david foster wallace
stories and rachel
albums wishing for fall to come sooner.

Come on, don't you think you're being a little bit rash?? Nevermind, of
course you don'tbut you are. Look at the situation from his point of
view..he's using his time, his resources, his money to send out hundreds
of stickers. Did he have to? No. He volunteered to do this for us
graciously, probably not expecting the large volume of responses he
received. But, he did/is doing his best to accommodate everyone.

Now, ungrateful, impatient, un-understanding people are complaining that
they aren't getting what they want. I don't know you or your story so I
won't pass judgement on anyone. But, when you say "I want, I want, I want",
not to mention rudely, you aren't apt to get it unless you're a spoiled
brat. Just something to take into consideration the next time you think
about asking for something.

No, I'm NOT accusing anyone of anything or forming impressions of anyone I
don't know so don't write me on that issue. I'm just looking at what I've
seen and telling you how it looks from my point of view -- not how YOU are,
just how it looks.

[MMouse]: Band T-Shirts/posters

2000-07-20 Thread DinoJr44

Alright, does anybody know of any sites to get good band t-shirts or posters
for any of these bands (i'm just copying it from my profile, but if you know
of others i might like...):

pavement, modest mouse, built to spill, pixies, silver jews, flaming lips,
weezer, elliott smith, dismemberment plan, death cab for cutie, neutral milk
hotel, bright eyes.

I know a lot of them are a stretch, but any information would be helpful.
Because my brother will soon be off to college, much needed wall-space will
be available (Pink Floyd/Doors/Led Zeppelin poster - ROT IN HELL'S
BASEMENT!!). All I have are 4 modest mouse posters (buffalo, lonesome, 2000
tour, this sweet one from the recent concert at the Metro in Chicago {did
anyone else buy it?}) and a small flaming lips one. And one can never have
too many t-shirts. I basically have all of the pavement/modest mouse shirts
that can be found online (at least i think) and the one keep it like a secret
built to spill shirt (will i be forced to buy the girl rock T-shirt that so
very strangely appeals to me?). Thanks.

my favorite thing about that movie was dignan's jumpsuit :P otherwise, i
don't know, i can't even call it a great movie because it was so bizarre.
i liked 'rushmore' because i could relate to it, which was something that i
could in no way do with 'bottle rocket.' i do appreciate both movies
because they aren't those 'in your face' and 'edgy' movies that have been
so overplayed in the film industry. i like to think of paul thomas
anderson and wes anderson (hey i never noticed that before; they have the
same last names ;)) as the return to kindness. i wonder why i can't tell
the brothers apartwhich one is older? i'm guessing owen probably.
they just, to me, look so much alike and i found that to be hilarious in
'bottle rocket,' as if they were mocking the fact that the characters are
only friends or something. uh, i dunno what's good out as of late, but i
wanna see 'shaft' and 'scary movie.'
zach mentioned 'fargo.' that movie is brilliant, but as a minnesotan, i
can assure you that they overdid the accent by about 45%. also, we don't
say hot plate or casserole which they screwed up - we're all about the HOT
DISH. duh! seriously that movie is great tho.. ok, i'm done.
it's my duty to pleasure isaac's booty,

[MMouse]: RE: Bottle Rocket and Other Delights

2000-07-20 Thread Zach_Douglas

Warning, long, bored at work post about movies and what not.

I lost my digest, but someone was talking about Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, Wes
Anderson, Etc. I remember someone saying Bottle Rocket was 'strange'. I
don't know if I would call it strange, but it is not your typical
plot-driven movie so some people don't really see the point that the meat of
the movie is in the underlying themes.. which aren't themselves very deep or
hard to catch.. Dignan sums it up at the end when he says something like,
"Funny you were in the nut house, now I'm in Jail".. how they were both not
normal people or didn't want to conform and how you can end up.. and how
that's not so bad.. and how maybe Anthony lost some of his craziness and
gained some sanity and Dignan helped him with that by taking the rap for
what they did... reminds me of, uhm, Midnight Cowboy, how Dustin Hoffman
(Rizzo?) saves John Voight from himself but he himself loses (I won't spoil
anything if you haven't seen it).

A funny thing Wes Anderson said on IFC about Bottle Rocket... and he is a
really funny guy.. was that the script to bottle rocket was not very well
written and they really didn't know how to write one.. but when some critics
liked the movie they called it 'character driven' instead of 'lacking plot'.
I appreciate his self deprecating attitude, however he knows Bottle Rocket
came out really great because not many movies walk that territory of being
such fun character studies that don't have much of a plot to get in the way
of that. Rushmore had both.. well drawn characters and some plot movement..
it's hard to pick my favorite between the two though.. I think in the long
run Bottle Rocket would win out.. because it doesn't have so much plot.. if
I watched them both 5 times Rushmore would probably get old because the plot
is a bigger part and you know the plot so well it wears thinner faster.

Which brings me to my last, and final point, about how much I love DRY
MOVIES.
I've got a little list in my head of my favorites and never have written
them down but I should before I forget them. The driest movies you can
watch are these:

Paris, Texas - the scene where Harry Denton Stanton confronts his estranged
wife, Natasha Kinksi will make your heart stop for about 15 mins which is
about how long the scene seems to last where they look at eachother though
this glass window of a peep-show booth.

Fargo - Blood Simple is fairly dry, but Fargo is the driest thing the Coen
Brothers have done. It could be drier than it is, but it's perfect the way
it
is so I can't complain. This is near the bottom of my dry films top ten
list.

Stroisek / Aguire the Wrath of God - Both by Werner Herzog, both really dry
and foreign. One about a guy who come to American looking for a better
life.. he buys a big American color TV. and trailer house on credit then
gets it all taken away. Aguire is an outstanding movie also, it has Germans
who are playing Spaniards. There is a scene that seems to be lifted from
one of my favorite books, the original Tarzan story. It ends much like
Stroisek.. one of the most incredible endings of any film ever created. If
this is EVER on the big screen it must be seen.

Panic in Needle Park - one of Al Pacino's first movies and one of his best.
VERY, VERY dry movie. I don't think there is even a soundtrack, just cold
grey streets and dingy apartments and sad people doing heroin. Lots of
great performances in the film from people who I don't know their names. I
think the female lead went on to play the nanny in the exorcist. Watch this
when you want a dry one. Oh yeah, it's sort of a love story too. Almost.

American Job - Chris Smith's first movie before his great documentary
American Movie. This is dryer than dry, like me and Elwood Blues like their
toast. It can be painful to watch, but it's also hilarious at the same
time. I bet EVERYONE can relate to at least one of the jobs this guy has..
food service.. phone work.. a job you have to work late hours...

2001 / Barry Lyndon - Movies you can watch over and over. I've only seen
the second half of Barry Lyndon (it's 3 hours), but I've seen it 3 times. I
will finally get to see the first half in the theater soon. Eyes Wide Shut
was certainly dry, but so.. inextricable? As not to be as much fun to watch,
if indeed you do consider watching 2.5 hour dry movies fun like I do. Maybe
if I figured it out I would include it.

Bad Lands - Great dry movie! While no one could draw a bead on Thin Red
Line, everyone should consider Bad Lands a masterpiece. It's a movie that
you watch it a few times and you can think in your mind of most any scene
and see it perfectly.. because unlike most movies now it's not composed of
thousands of cuts.. it's very minimal in that aspect and it's beautiful and
it so much does not follow the formula for road movies that was created by
the various Bonnie and Clyde films. There is a short but priceless scene
where Sissy Spacek and Martin Shee

I'm happy to send out stickers to anyone who wants some (even

...exactly. I have an ant farm of MM digests

complaining, just defending the repeat URL.

My bad, yo.

[MMouse]: Led Zep defense

2000-07-19 Thread C Kramer

Led Zeppelin was inspired by the American R&B much like
many of their contemporaries. What the brought to the table
was some keen musicianship that had a sound that was bigger, louder and
exaggerated compared to the other at the time.

Now other bands that grew off of them took that bigger, louder
sound, and focused more of the darker elements (gothic images, satanism) that
Led Zep and the Rolling Stones didn't actively promote or make part of their
showmanship.  Groups like Black Sabbath and KISS did this and made the
theatrics of such central to their music as well as their image and
experience.

That being said, I believe Black Sabbath for
alot of Brits and Euros, and KISS for many Americans, were the origins of
cockrock.  The main defining features are the over-the-top theatrics, dark
themes, as well as an exaggerated sense of musicianship. Not Led Zeppelin.
They were the first band to flagrantly take advantage of all of the freedoms and
oppulence that a mega-popular rock band could. They were too busy getting drunk,
laid, and/or high to care about what kind of image they put across, and quite
possibly because it wasn't part of the blues tradition that they patterned
themselves after. That's why the theatrics of KISS and Sabbath were so
influential during the 80s because such imagery lended itself well to the
nascent music video marketing revolution.

Wow, that's deep. I just meant that brilliant was a bad word choice.
Passionate is a better one.

    I was just wondering.  How
would the amount of hooks in GbV's catalogue compare to the
Beatles'?

[MMouse]: These stickers are yummy

2000-07-19 Thread DinoJr44

Cool stickers bro. Thanks a lot. My mom and step-dad were gathered around
me when I opened it because they thought it looked very suspicious (*sigh*).
The sticker on the envelope is cool and made me feel very special as my name
was typed.

I am awaiting my paycheck to go cd shopping for more Dismemberment Plan cds...

i saw "bottle rocket" about a month and a half ago. it was...strange. i'm
not sure what i think of the movie itself to this day. i know that it's no
"rushmore" by any means, but that i love the characters. dignan(sp?) was
one of the most brilliant characters from a movie that i've ever seen, and
the fact that the two friends looked so much alike but were only friends
cracked me up. there's like little to no difference between them
physically, at all. the only way i'd be able to tell them apart was by
their hair. i wonder if they did that as a joke or if they actually think
they look different from each other. does anyone know if they're twins
(luke and owen) or just brothers?

Re: [MMouse]: read it and weep:/how to be indie

2000-07-19 Thread J to the R

this was posted before within the last 3 days, but I will let that slide
for three reasons:

1) it wasn't about "cockrock"
2) it wasn't about how it wasn't cockrock
3) Phil Smoker is easily my most favorite member of this list...and I
don't even know the guy, but I always find his posts extremely well thought
out, never off the cuff, RARELY redundant, but always worth reading.

We all could learn miles from Philip Smoker.

if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.
if you can't say something smart, you post 6 million messages a day.
