[MOPO] FS: Bride of Frankenstein Realart Onesheet - Best Universal Horror Title!

2012-06-08 Thread Old-Time Cinema
Reposting.

Hey Gang,

Just wanted to let yo all know that I am selling a 1953 RealArt re-release
poster for the 1935 Universal Horror film "Bride of Frankenstein" starring
Boris Karloff. The poster has been linen-backed and lightly touched up on
foldlines, the condition prior to backing was Very Fine/Excellent. The
artwork is vivid, beautiful, stunning, and horrific all at once. The
poster was FRAMED by Sue Heim at Hollywoodposterframes a few years ago,
and can be shipped framed or unframed - buyers choice.

"Bride of Frankenstein" is arguably the best of the Universal Horror
films, and this poster is arguably the best poster for this title which is
still affordable to most collectors. This poster does not come up often,
you may want to consider this one.

I am asking $3625, or best offer - serious inquiries only. Any reasonable
offer will likely be accepted. Email me by responding to this message
(please do not respond to entire MoPo board unless that is your
intention).

The poster is located in California and may be able to be delivered
locally. If necessary we can use the ebay or MPB system, but I will NOT
accept PayPal for payment. I have been on MoPo and eBay over a decade and
have had many great exchanges with many on the board over the years.

Re: [MOPO] Bad Bidder Alert

2010-06-14 Thread Old Time Cinema
Hey Rich - yeah, I understand the law says something about returns, but, a
few months ago eBay made me "choose" whether I accepted returns or not,
and with the nature of used movie posters, I chose "no returns." Truth
is, I always refund when there is an issue, as long as I get the items
back in same condition. But, this guy - no prior notification of a
problem, no specific info provided to back his claim, no manners - should
be avoided, IMHO.

Maybe I should just send you all the stuff I have left to auction?!?!

Best,
Gary

[MOPO] Bad Bidder Alert

2010-06-14 Thread Old Time Cinema
Hi Gang - Here's another one to add to your block-bidder list on ebay and
elsewhere:

Craig Scott
Fountain Valley, CA.

ebay ID: zaphod-enterprises

This guy buys a rolled poster and a folded poster, forces me to ship
together to combine on shipping, and then decides to return them in an
inferior tube, and file a PayPal claim because they "were not as
described." He never said exactly how the posters were not as described,
other than to say "they were not as described," refusing to answer me
after I sent three emails asking what the problem was. Of course, the
tube he used was crushed and the posters are now damaged...and the Paypal
claim? he won because PayPal is an ignorant and biased corporation, and I
am appealing (with little luck I'm sure). People are such boneheads.

My description says "no returns" unless the description is wrong - PayPal
does not care that the buyer provided ZERO information to back his claim,
and that the posters were returned damaged. Ebay and PayPal, the worst
merger ever.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Re: [MOPO] images

2010-04-21 Thread Old Time Cinema
Ed,

I get what you are doing, which is why I made the suggestion I did. I
understand that LAMPis far more than an image database. We need a data
base of ALL info on every movie poster out there, as you stated.
ExpressoBeans is trying to do the same thing for art prints and are doing
alright, but they are too broad in scope. LAMP, on the other hand, deals
just with movie posters. I understand the programs not matching up as
well as your concerns with collectors uploading their stuff. My point is
that collectors would be more inclined to actively participate if the
program was more like EB, but I understand your desire to control the site
and all submissions...I was just hoping you might be willing to create a
database we can all contribute to, so we can have the maximum amount of
poster info in the shortest amount of time. OK, I'm an idealist. Thanks
for all the hard work you and Sue have done over the years, you have come
a long way.

Regards,
Gary

Re: [MOPO] images

2010-04-21 Thread Old Time Cinema
Hi Ed -

Just a suggestion, but you may want to consider using a situation like
ExpressoBeans - where collectors can upload the pictures directly, adding
sales info and other details with each upload. You would still get to
edit every submission yourself, but you would have many more images that
you would know what to do with, and you could also start an authentic
database of realtime sales...which we are sorely lacking. Also, each
poster would have its own comments section/blog, so people can correct any
mistakes you might miss.

This is something that is desperately needed, and the ExpressoBeans site,
while it has movie posters, is not really set up for movie posters and the
folks running the site generally do not like movie posters.

Just an idea, if you don't do it I'm sure someone will eventually - there
is an opportunity here that is a good one, IMHO.

Regards,
Gary

Re: [MOPO] Memories of MoPo Past

2010-04-21 Thread Old Time Cinema
I am STILL LOOKING for Eugene Hughes, if anyone can provide contact info
that would be great. I know at least one MoPo member that has kept in
touch with Eugene - he ripped me off bigtime and I want to speak with him
about making things right.

Anyone protecting Eugene is really just an accomplice in theft, as far as
I am concerned. Any help would be appreciated.

As far as MoPo - remember 10 years ago when OT posts were not ridiculed
into oblivion? Where we actually talked about all things, including all
things posters, as well as our lives? Scott runs a good show here, always
has, and hopefully always will. There are a lot of lurkers that rarely
post anymore, myself included, so please do not think that MoPo is only
20-30 regular posters - it's not, just like a squeeky wheel and all that.

Best regards,
Gary

There were all kinds of people that went to Grateful Dead shows, and that
should not be any sort of judgment of character, IMHO.   Better a politician

OK, this story has gotten a bit better with age...

It turns out that the building behind McCain was also used as the backdrop
for Matt Santos' announcement of his presidential candidacy on The West Wing.

Too funny.

Not true.  I sent a package to England, the guy said it never showed up, and
PayPal took money from my PayPal account and reimbursed him.  He did not have
to proove ANYTHING.  I had no way of prooving that I mailed it, though I had.
I only lost about $25, but I now REQUIRE that people either pay for
tracking/registered shipping, or don't use PayPal.  Unfortunately, once you are
no longer allowed to use money orders, you will have to rely more on PayPal.

Re: [MOPO] new eBay mandatory $4.00 max on shipping????

2008-09-05 Thread Old Time Cinema
Just curious:  When using PayPal you are obligated to use
confirmation/tracking, no matter what.  If a buyer says "I didn't receive the
item," and you did not use delivery confirmation, you lose your money and the
item - PayPal sides with the buyer EVERY TIME.  So, how can you ensure
confirmation, or in the case of international shipping, registered delivery, if
you are not allowed to pass that cost onto the buyer?  I cannot see absorbing a
$20 shipping fee to confirm a delivery made in Europe, on a $10 poster.

eBay will also no longer allow sellers to continue accepting checks or money
orders for most categories.  So, you will be forced to use PayPal, or similar
on-line payment system, most will use PayPal - combined with the shipping price
restrictions - and, lose a bunch of money.  Yeah!

I think I am in the process of working through my LAST auctions on eBay - many
posters have no bids now, and have only 2 days left.

Not really "politics," but I have a question:

Can anyone explain to me WHY Republican Presidential Nominee, John McCain,
was making his acceptance speech...with a back drop picture of my Junior High
School in North Hollywood, CA.?

For much of his speech he had a picture of Walter Reed Junior High School
behind him. I know he emphasized "education" as a policy issue, not sure if
the pic was connected to that.

More likely, he hired an incompetant tech geek to do the pics and videos, who
was supposed to have Walter Reed Army Hospital as the backdrop. Throughout
the speech I kept wondering WHY the building looked so familiar, I guess I
buried those Middle school memories pretty deep in my psyche!

I know that foam-core comes in sheets that are 47" x 96" - so should do a 3sh with one piece.

Actually - Eugene Hughes was pretty well known here on MoPo and MPT,
receiving high regard from many. Well, he stole $2,000 worth of my posters,
as well as the money to back and restore them - so, just because they are
recommended here on MoPo means absolutely NOTHING. Instead, you would be
better off using an established restorer, with insurance, to treat your
posters.

I'm still looking for Eugene if anyone can help...

Re: [MOPO] TWO SHEETs to the wind

2006-09-05 Thread Old Time Cinema
Well, glad that's all cleared up...

Seriously, I always thought of a "two-sheet" as a poster on thin paper stock
that is approx twice the size of a OS, and usually folded. I usually equate
this with Subway-style posters...mainly because of the approximation,
though. Had not heard Kirby's tale of a 2SH being in two separate
pieces...that's pretty good info to have shared, thanks Kirby.

At any rate, I think the agreement is that a 40x60 is "Not" a 2SH, as
indicated by JW. Interesting.

Gary

I did not realize a 40" x 60" is a "Two-sheet" as Tom indicates below.  I always thought a two-sheet was more like a Subway poster, rather than a 40" x 60"

Phil also mentioned how limited these are for major pictures like this one. Compared to other NSS materials very scarce. I was extremely fortunate to find the 60" x 40" two sheet from "The Poseidon Adventure" in MINT condition from e-bay seller Mrs. Miniver. I have been watching this two sheet for quite sometime and I think Amy wanted something like $500.00+ to begin with. I did purchase it the other day for $345.00 less postage. The artwork by Mort Kunstler is absolutely spectacular and I feel very fortunate to get this two sheet. I will continue my quest for a "MINT" two sheet from "The Towering Inferno". I do have the rare subway 45" x 59" on linen and the John Berkey glass tower artwork is fantastic. I do know that Grey was offering an "Inferno" at Heritage but it did not sell. It did have condition problems. Also Bruce sold one for very little but then again that one also had condition problems. The majority of these 60" x 40" posters do have condition problems. Yes, crinkles and wrinkles are a major common defect and problem among other problems.
>
>  Yes, like you mentioned many of these type's of posters were placed out in the elements and hence were ruined and did not survive. If they did they have condition problems. I would like to frame both of these titles and have an Irwin Allen display.

I was pleased to secure a MINT two sheet from Todd from "The Spy Who Loved Me" and had it double matted. It is my most favorite Bob Peak poster. Also traded for the two sheet on "Octopussy" and currently have this at the frame shop. Both quite MINT!!!

[MOPO] Blocking Sellers?

I thought if you blocked an eBay seller this would filter their listings out
in any search you do? No?

[MOPO] Private vs Public posts

2006-08-01 Thread Old Time Cinema
Dear MoPo - Someone brought to my attention that the posts I thought were
public were actually private. Not sure how that happened as I read them they
appeared to be addressed to the List, and not just to me privately.
Therefore, I must apologize to the list because it was never my intention to
publically air something meant to be private - especially when it is
politically oriented. My Mistake. Best regards to all but Fred.

Gary

Now I get it... you are just a friggin' Troll.   LoL!!  Sorry I missed that.  Dave, is that you?!?!  ;-)

BTW: ALL of your posts have been public which is why I responded in kind - had you kept it private, I would have as well.  And, you are no "liberal" when you try to suggest that a fact (Bush lied, people died) is old news.   People are dying more often NOW than in 2003...but, I guess that is OK with you since you obvioulsy do not care about the young Americans fighting in Iraq.  Typical neo-Con.   Loser Troll.

I actually agree with you very much. Unfortunately, the Right does not
play so fairly. Tell me why the word "Liberal" has such a negative
connotation when the root of what it means to be "liberal" is good? I'll
tell you, because many of those commentators on the Right Stereotype on a
regular basis about the Left. I'm sick of it, especially when it is the so-
called "mainstream media." So, I'll stereotype all I want regarding
Conservatives, Republicans, and the Right Wing nutcases out there - sorry if
I offend in the process. I do wonder if that MoPo post suggesting that
critics of US Foreign policy are "America Haters" also received an email from
you regarding stereotyping - if not, why not?

The answer - if you do not like stereotyping then start criticising the Right
for routinely doing that, especially when representing "mainstream" America.
I am a patriot First, period.

Fox News Stikes Again!

Let's talk about Bush/Cheney's WAR-PROFITEERING if you really want to reveal the dark side of our America.  It is certainly more detrimental to us than a blow-job...

Bush lied - THOUSANDS have Died.  And, it has NOTHING TO DO WITH 9/11, so stop beating that Dead Horse and start evaluating this Administrations War Crimes as such.

Bush apologists = ignorant, but "Patriotic," Americans.  If you are so Patriotic you would see Bush as the Devil he really is, and you will be Left Behind.
