Re: [mythtv-users] Script to create human readable symlinks
I'm afraid you could have saved yourself some time. A script that does this is already in the contrib folder : http://cvs.mythtv.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/mythtv/contrib/mythlink.sh?rev=1.2view=log Steven Doh, that would have been a better starting point. And I run into Chris yet again (first on Cajun, now on Myth - I am seeing a pattern... :-) The script I submitted does try a little harder to handle missing and/or redundant metadata (with multiple link naming schemes and sequence numbers). --Darren Assume you meant me. :) I just committed a fix to mythlink.sh, I can't take credit for writing the script, I believe that was Dale Gass according to the comment at the top of the script. Myth is the reason that I haven't spent any time on Cajun over the past couple years. -- Chris ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

I've got a Siemens S45 phone and it's happy with the HTML generated by the Mythweb 'wap' theme. I had to make some PHP code mods to get the program recording capability working but everything else worked out of the box. Guess I'm just lucky with my phone being flexible regarding what it will accept during a 'wap' session as I tried to use online WAP emulators to test the Mythweb wap i/f but none of them would play ball with the pseudo-wap pages generated. Hmmm. Maybe you could send your changes to the author (or me) and we can work on integrating them? To my knowledge, the WAP theme is currently unsupported. [mythtv-users] Recording suggestions.
When scheduling recordings for a big list of things, like movies (ie, clicking the movies button in mythweb), it'd be uselfull if movies (or episodes) I have already recorded were highlighted or drawn with some border, as scheduled recordings are. It would be uselfull to be able to mark a recording for re-record. IE, if the quality of the recording is substandard, but you don't want to delete it, just replace it when it can be recorded again. When telling mythweb to record any showing of the movie Lilo Stitch, it also decided to record every episode of the cartoon Lilo Stitch. I'm not sure how to prevent this. This is probably in the works, but in the recorded programs browser, it would be helpfull to collapse movies into a single category, as to not clutter the list. This might also be usefull for sporting events. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

Hello Jens... I'm trying to run you script, which is very a nice add-on, but i've some problems with the perl-module POP3Client. Can you help with this. I'm running FC1. Thanks Patrick Hi, I hacked up a quick perl script to show sender and subject of the 5 most recent mails on a POP account in a scroller via mythtvosd. It's not perfect, but it does the job for me. (I have it running as a cron job every 5 minutes - it remembers which messages it has already checked.) It shouldn't do any damage - there aren't any functions that attempt to delete any mail, and I've been running it without a hitch for the last few days, but YMMV. (It does create - and occasionally delete - a file called .uidl.txt in its user's home folder. Make sure that beavior diesn't conflict with any other software you're running.) It needs the Mail::POP3Client and MIME::WordDecoder perl modules to function properly and will usually only try to check mail if it detects mythfrontend showing TV or a recording, although that can be overridden if you want to run it on a dedicated backend. Feel free to modify the attached script to suit your needs. Jens ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

[mythtv-users] RCA D40W20 timings/settings/xorg.conf
I would like to know the correct Linux xorg.conf modeline to use when connecting an Athlon xp 1800 PC with a GeForce FX 5200 video card to an RCA HDTV monitor (16:9 aspect ratio), model #D40W20. I am using a DVI cable to connect the two. When I use Jarrod's xorg.conf at http://wilsonet.com/mythtv/xorg.conf-HD.txt the output is not distorted (though with significant flickering). When I enter these settings into Powerstrip, however, I don't get any output to the HDTV after the Windows splashscreen. This is the section of the file which is being applied: # My 960x540p mode Mode 960x540p DotClock 37.26 HTimings 960 976 1008 1104 VTimings 540 542 548 563 Flags +HSync +VSync This from the Amazon D40W20 product description: RCA's 40-inch-diagonal D40W20 widescreen HDTV monitor gives you a smooth, filmlike image when used with a progressive-scan DVD player (or 480p-output DTV set-top box). This projection set includes the latest connectivity: a DVI input with HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection), which allows transmission of uncompressed digital video signals from an HDTV set-top box (not included) to the D40W20. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Both of the set's high-definition (1080i/480p) component-video inputs benefit from the Syncroscan system, which automatically performs high-resolution pixel mapping from sources up to SXGA resolution. Is it because then it starts up with the same channel watched when it was shut down ? Can I turn that off somewhere ? ) - remove the broken channel from the list. ( I don't know how to remove channels in the channel editor, so I edit its number to something 1000 ) - exit mythtv-setup - start mythbackend and mythfrontend Why does mythfrontend crash when the channel is broken ? [mythtv-users] audio not working on ONE channel
I have been using Mythtv for about 4 months, very happily. I am using FC2 with a PVR-250, and onboard audio (Dell 400SC PowerEdge). I use a nVidia GeForce 4 MX 420 and Jarod's guide to build it. For some reason for the last three days I have ONLY ONE channel in which audio is not working. All the other channels currently work as normal. Never had a problem with it before in the last four months. You can hear some output if you turn the amp all the way up, but it is still soft, and crackily. The bizarre part is, that if I plug the cable input straight into my TV, the audio on this channel DOES work. So I know it's not the broadcast. The same problem happens if it is a recording or liveTV. I live on my own, so no one else has been messing with it. If it was any other channel, I wouldn't mind, but this is the channel I watch most. Has anyone else had this problem?? (obviously not because I searched the forum beforehand, but if anyone might have a lead on what's going on, I'd appreciate the help!!!) ALSO, and this is less important because I've been living with it for the past four months anyway, but when I am watching liveTV and that window pops up saying that you have another recording that's about to start, no matter what option you pick, when the timer gets to zero, the frontend freezes. Still records, but I have to get my keyboard out to reset the frontend. What I do is just panic and exit to the menu screen before the timer gets to zero, but it is annoying when you're not paying attention and it freezes on you. I know this issue has been addressed before, but I have not seen a good solution for it. While I'm here I might as well lay all my problems upon your gracious earsyou see I just broke up with my girlfriend. Just kidding...my last and final question is that my Poweredge apparently MUST have a monitor attached to it to boot. This is extreemly annoying if the power goes out or something and I have to lug my old ctr out of the closet. You would think since this cpu is designed to be a server, this would not be a requirement, but who knows--it's a dell. The monitor does not have to be turned on, or even plugged in, but it must be attached. I tried just sticking a monitor cable into the 15-pin connector, but it doesn't work because I think it has to complete a circuit. I cannot find anyone who sells loopback plugs either. I also tried turning off the monitor requirement at the bios, but there is no such option. Any suggestions? [mythtv-users] 0.17 release
Hi all, I just finished building up a new box containing both a Hauppauge WinTV-350 a pchdtv HD-3000 card that I want to install mythtv on. I'm using the new DVB drivers for the HD-3000 available at http://www.geocities.com/kirk_lapray, so I need to use a recent build of mythtv. I'm wondering if I should just start pulling the latest sources from CVS or should I wait for the pending 0.17 release that's mentioned on the mythtv homepage. Though I never took the time to figure it out exactly what causes this, I think it has something to do with the way mplayer captures the screen. It would seem that the keystrokes you enter are being processed by mythtv which would suggest that mythtv still holds the focus in your WM. It could be that if the mouse moves after mplayer launches, the focus may return back to mythtv if sloppy window focus is enabled. The strangeness is that the first 5-10 minutes or so mplayer will still receive key events, so it's not like mythfrontend stays on top. And sloppy focus would be highly unlikely in Ratpoison, since every window is fullscreen, no way to move the pointer 'on' another window AFAIK. Re: [mythtv-users] Latest CVS of Mythweb + older CVS co of Mythtv .16
Hi Chris, I checked out mythweb from 2005-01-23 (random date, since I can't remember when the function was updated :) and copied the function backend_notify_changes from this checkout to my current cvs tree and it worked: 2005-02-06 16:15:58.592 Found changes in the todo list. 2005-02-06 16:15:59.179 Scheduled 270 items in 0.6 seconds. Is that better than coping the whole mythbackend.php file? I figured that future updates to this file will be applied unless this function is specificly updated. In that case, cvs will report it and I can fix it more easily... Tho, I don't understand why you suggest removing the sleep command (?) since it's the same in both the new and the old function: // Give the backend time to catch up? if ($sleep 0) sleep($sleep); Tho, in the arguments of the function, the old one only has $sleep while the new one has $recordid and $sleep. I'm not sure how to deal with that since now it is now working... Of the several versions I've tried, my best success is with 0.1.10pre2-ck111 with NTSC. I don't get closed captioning. With other versions, including some 0.2 version, I got choppy recordings when I didnt' get lockups. The sound was solid, the video off as if half the frames were recorded. Re: [mythtv-users] reliable australian EPG
i've been a mythtv user for about six months and i'm constantly frustrated by the lack of a decent EPG for australian tv. or, for that matter, any EPG at all that lasts for more than a few months. i'd like to create a reliable, comprehensive EPG for australians, containing full episode titles, description, genre, etc... the downside of this is that it would take up a substantial amount of my time to do something like this, and i'm a full-time uni student with two part-time jobs. i was thinking that maybe if i charged, say, a $10-$20 annual fee for the service, i could afford to quit one of those jobs. this isn't a money-making exercise, i don't like charging for it, but i'd really like to see a good australian EPG, and it's a time-consuming task and i just don't have that kind of time at the moment. i'd really like to see an australian EPG that can be relied upon and has comprehensive info, so i'm hoping i can make this a reality. the crucial factor though is how many people would sign up for it. Yes - I would pay that much. However, you will find that the EPG data is not available for you to onsell on a commercial basis and if you did the TV companies here in Oz would come after you for breaching their copyright. This has been covered many time on this list. It's a shame, but that's the commercial reality we have with the TV stations here in Oz at the moment. The version which has been posted in this thread works flawlessly in my experience so unless a problem arises with it then there's no problem to fix at the moment, is there? You could get involved in the OzTivo work where the community manually enters full program details into a database which can then be read by grabbers. There was talk of integrating a MythTV grabber with that but I think there was general lack of enthusiasm from the MythTV community. However, this would seem to be the best long term solution as there are no copyright issues. Search the gossamer archives for details. On David's point on the schedule overruns, I think we will never have a solution to that other than adding 10mins onto the recording end time. I think it would be very unlikely that the schedule would be updated to reflect late runs. I doubt the TV stations even think of it as late! Re: [mythtv-users] Poor recording quality when scene is dark
I had similar issues and what I did was reduce the resolution (the card really doesn't capture above 384x256 or something like that) and increase the bitrate (I'm using MPEG-4 for my case). The lower resolution should look just as good and the increased quality should result in much better viewing of dark shows without increasing file sizes. Now that's interesting. I'm recording at 480x480 on some pretty basic bt8x8 cards and would like to bump up bit rates but don't want to chew up the CPU. How can I find out what the max recording resolution is for my cards so I can reduce it to that to free up some CPU to increase the bit rate? ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

Have a look at the keys.txt file which describes which keys do what and then map that to a button on your remote. The file can be also found online at http://knoppmythwiki.homelinux.org/index.php?page=HowToUseMyth Some of the things are possible (such as EPG page up/down), others may require you to define a jump point. I haven't done this, but I think you have to have MythWeb running. Search the archives for more info on jump points. The include_dir in your settings.pro file for DVB isn't correct. If you can azap your channels then the card is working just fine. Ok, I have frontend.h files in ./usr/include/linux/dvb/frontend.h ./usr/src/linux-2.6.11-rc3/include/linux/dvb/frontend.h (my active kernel) ./usr/src/dvb-kernel/linux/include/linux/dvb/frontend.h I used the kernel cuz that is the driver module I used. I diffed to the dvb-kernel version, and there are a bunch of differences but most seem cosmetic. The settings.pro has comments like: # DVB support CONFIG += using_dvb DEFINES += USING_DVB # Note: INCLUDEPATH should point to the directory with # 'linux/dvb/frontend.h', not the directory with frontend.h # Note: This _must not_ be your linux kernel source includes. Copy the dvb # includes into a separate directory for now. #INCLUDEPATH += /usr/src/linuxtv-dvb-1.0.1/include #INCLUDEPATH += /usr/src/linux/include/linux/dvb INCLUDEPATH += /usr/src/dvb-kernel/linux/include/linux/dvb I tried /usr/src/dvb-kernel/linux/include/linux/dvb and /usr/src/linux/include/linux/dvb (linux-2.6.11-rc3/) with no difference. Is there another frontend.h I'm supposed to be using? Since I'm using the 2.6.11rc3 kernel module, I figured I should use its version. Re: [mythtv-users] Bottom of GUI window hangs screen
Increase your screen resolution, and you shouldn't have any problems. Also, it could be an issue with your X server font size. If Qt is like most other GUI toolkits that I've worked with, then they'll gladly render items off of the screen viewable area if they won't fit (or if explicitly told to). I would say that in this case, the screens were designed around a certain screen size, and a certain font size, and if you don't match that, then you'll possibly have items off the screen. -- Joe --- Dan Christensen [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Neil Bird [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: The GUI window (but seemingly only the settings pages) hangs off the bottom of the screen, often hiding some of the help prompt and the next/back/[something else] buttons. Re: [mythtv-users] Poor recording quality when scene is dark
Phill Edwards wrote: I had similar issues and what I did was reduce the resolution (the card really doesn't capture above 384x256 or something like that) and increase the bitrate (I'm using MPEG-4 for my case). I thought someone posted this to the list a while back, but looking through the support docs on haupaugge's website, their FAQ on capturing pretty much talks only about capture at 320x240 which may or may not be the theoretical max that you need but it sure lends some credence to the argument: http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/faq/support_faq_pci_videocapture.html Kevin ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
Re: [mythtv-users] remote control options
Quite simple. In your ~/.myhttv/lircrc file, look for whatever your guide button is. Change it from what it is now (probably config=0) to config=S (without the quotes). That'll bring up the guide. At least for the time being, you will also need to make sure that short open tags are enabled in /etc/php.ini (or wherever your favorite distro chooses to place it). And I need to actually get around to updating the code to remove all of those old tags. -Chris ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
Re: [mythtv-users] Mythweb protocol conflict?
Both were downloads from official downloads from the website and not from CVS. Why the difference when both are 0.16? There must have been a discrepancy in the releases. If I force mythweb's MYTH_PROTO_VERSION to 14 (in includes/mythbackend.php), the complaint goes away and most pages work, except for two: If I click on Scheduled Recordings, I get nothing but about 20 of: Warning at /var/www/htdocs/mythweb/includes/programs.php, line 307: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() I tried some debug statements in programs.php and without wading through everything, it doesn't seem like stuff is getting passed to function Program. Not sure about this one. My suggestion would be to pull CVS from a week or to after .16 was released. Or wait a couple of hours until Isaac releases .17 tonight. If I click on Recorded Programs, I get the page header and about 5-6 of: Warning at /var/www/htdocs/mythweb/includes/sorting.php, line 42: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() a quick search of the mailing list would have turned up about 1000 messages about this bug. it's long-since fixed in CVS. -Chris ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
