[newbie] Color Prompts in bash - Pierre Fortin or anyone else
Just browsing the TWiKi, and I found that the attachment on: http://mandrake.vmlinuz.ca/bin/view/Main/ColorPrompts has gone missing. If anyone has a copy (I assume it was posted to expert or newbie, but I've checked my archive and it isn't there) they might like to post it here, or update the attachment. Duncan Anderson wrote: Hello Graham Anyhow, what I want to know is what is the best way to recover data from a hard drive that is about to fail, but contains part of my Mandrake installation (usr home) when I get a new box up and running. Can I install it as a slave disk an access it through a new Mandrake installation or perhaps a live CD distribution? Or are there other ways? I realise this isn't exactly a Mandrake specific topic but there is more concentrated computer wisdom here than any other place I know so I hope you can steer me right. The method that you mention is perhaps the safest, ie. install it as a slave disk, etc. I have done that sort of thing many times. As long as you are methodical and logical, you should be OK. I have done this with Redhat 5.2, SCO OpenServer, SCO UNIX 4.2, MS-Dog, and various versions of Mandrake from version 7.1 up. Most recently I did it with Mandrake 10.1beta2. It is a good way of upgrading your system as well as a way of recovering data from an ailing drive. Once you have installed your new drive, simply run drakconf (diskdrake) and set up the mount points and off you go! regards Duncan Hi Guys, First off, apologies for posting from a Windows box. In the Libranet Control Centre, I installed and configured alsa. Tried the program again and it worked without error messages. Back to Mandrake and I installed everything to do with alsa that I could find. Changed the KDE-sound-system sound-hardware setting from auto to alsa and tried the program (it's a KDE program) again. Nothing! Just the same error messages. So I have the program running using alsa in one distro, but not running using alsa in another distro. Very odd. Incidentally, selecting custom setting of the sampling rate in the hardware section of KDE sound settings, kills the sound completely. There are no system sounds. That's as far as I have got. [newbie] Duplex printing hp deskjet 970cxi
I have a Deskjet 970cxi printer with a with a two sided module (looks like a double roller gadjet that fits on the back of the printer). I would like to be able to print on both sides of the paper for book or tablet printing. I found the commands for printing using manual loading of paper. But I would like to utilize the printers automatic feed through the module. I have cups installed and printer works fine. Does anyone have any experience with this printer or two sided printing? Or point me in a direction to look? I have been doing some searching and reading but not much luck yet. Thanks Mike Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? I would suggest that you use the default /dev/pilot. If you can't find /dev/pilot in the directory, don't sweat it, as it is created on the fly by hotplug at sync. All you should need to do is open Kpilot, and press your cradle button to sync. Check for the note about not being able to find /dev/pilot before you sync, that will tell you that the Kpilot daemon is running. -- Mountlake Terrace, WA USA Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? I am also kind of a newbie in Linux, but it seems to me that your cdrom is not correctly configured/working under Linux, might be worth checking that out if you're sure that VMWare should boot from CDrom first. On my cooker system I run CVS claws but on this, my 10.1 system I either run the stock Mdk rpm Or the 10.1 rpm available from my site, in this instance, since I have uploaded no update, it is the 10.1a claws I am running. I have no doubt you are suffering the problem which you detailed but the same is not exhibited or reproducible here. Can you launch claws from a term and then post the output relevant to the crash. I am sure someone will correct me if it is no longer around. Good luck derek ... Derek, I just bought a slightly newer computer (PIII-533), and it happens to have a video card that NVidia claims is supported by their latest driver, a Riva TNT2 64, so I decided to try the nvidia driver. I have been using the nv driver, which works fine except for lack of 3D acceleration (tuxkart gives me about 1 frame every 3 seconds). I downloaded the latest driver from the NVidia site. This is 1.0-6629, whereas your page refers to 1.0-6111. But I followed your instructions anyway, in case the bug you mentioned was still there. But in usr/src/nv/nv.c, it appears that PM_SAVE_STATE has already been changed to PM_SUSPEND_MEM (I can find the latter string but not the former), so I guess the bug is fixed. It compiled and installed without any errors. Only a warning about the kernel being built with rivafb as a module, and that this module conflicts with Thanks for that info Ron. I'll retire that page now the info is out of date. derek Hmm.. I tried out the new 6629 version of the Nvidia driver today. It compiles OK, but when it starts the splash screen does not go away. I had to revert to the 6111 driver again. derek -- www.jennings.homelinux.net http://twiki.mdklinuxfaq.org Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft?
