If I use spamc on the other hand, all is well. Just a random observation there. PS This however, is not with postfix, just running it through kmail. That´s my problem too! How can I change from spamd to spamc, since spamd is started at boot time? Ricardo Castanho Brazil I think there is a little misunderstanding here. You can use spamassassin in two ways. Firstly as a perl standalone application, in which case you call it with the command 'spamassassin'. This is the simplest way to use spamassassin. See 'man spamassassin' Or secondly as a pair of C programmes called spamd and spamc. Spamd is the daemon which runs continuously, and spamc is the client to access spamd. Spamd/spamc are better for larger mail servers because they have much smaller memory requirements and are faster. My guide describes using spamd/spamc with a Postfix server. But if you want real email filtering you really need to be running spamassassin with more than just the basic rules. That caused me to fetchmail/maildrop/spamassassin/razor/pyzor all my mail before kmail picks it up all marked locally, and its not a hard configuration. The checking of each email with this setup is about 1 to 2 seconds each with my XP-2100, so the hit on Kmail would be serious. Rob Right. spamd is running here. Spamassassin is a service. Again noting that I'm not running postfix, but using it via kmail, that when the filters are setup, if you call spamd instead of spamc, the load and e-mail times are relatively huge. I can't remember how this came up before (but it did), but the simple answer was never to call spamd but always use spamc. I know it made a heckuva difference here, in v9.2. Again, if this has nothing to do with the original post, I apologize - its just what works here. [newbie] MDK 10.1 Official DVD replay problem

I can open Xine and play a DVD, but the next time I try, it will not produce any sound. Instead, I get a file called ~/xine-out.wav and silence. It seems that as soon as the Xine config is applied or saved, the sound output vanishes. Can anyone suggest what I should be looking at to cure this? I've tried both the offical version of xine-ui and xinelib and the PLF version, but get the same results with both. I've not had this problem with Xine in the past, and I really don't know where to look. I was able to access the MSI box from both the HP box and the IBM box by using the following: fish://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/path/to/directory or fish://[EMAIL PROTECTED] I was not able to access any box by fish://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/path/to/directory I was not able to access the IBM box from either the HP box or the MSI box using fish://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/path/to/directory or fish://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/path/to/directory I was not able to access the HP box from either the IBM box or the MSI box using fish://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/path/to/directory or fish://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/path/to/directory So, one function apparently correctly two did not function as expected. I checked packages for the IBM and HP against the MSI. The MSI and IBM have the following packages installed: kdeutils-kdessh openssh openssh-askpass openssh-askpass-gnome openssh-client openssh-server scanssh sshd-monitor The HP package are somewhat different and due to inadequate notes I may not have the content exactly correct so we will skip that at this time. First Question: Are there other packages that are required to ssh into a box that I do not have listed above? Second Question: If there are no additional packages required why does one work [of sorts] and one not? That above [of sorts] is important as after completing I left work went home did laundry and returned to work to attempt to make the other two boxes work. Firing up all 3 computers the 2 which I was not able to access by fish came up normal and functioned normal. The MSi box which I was able to access by fish came up with video up to 3/4 way through KDE boot at which time it lost video and maybe key and mouse too as they did not appear to be functioning either. I shut the box down by turning power off [bad practice] since I appear to have no control of box. I repeated the above several times with identical results. I attempted to access box by fish and was able to do so. I placed Mandrake 10.1 disk in DVD drive and did an upgrade. Booting box after upgrade I still got blank screen and most possible no mouse and no keyboard. Third Question: How does one go about establishing why, how issue develops and how does one repair? Thanks Frank /etc/hosts is a system file and can only be edited by root user. If you are in KDE hit Alt+F2 and enter 'kdesu konqueror' to get a root copy of konqueror file manager. If your IP address does keep changing, then it may be more convenient to use samba instead of fish. Samba allows you to join a Windows network, and you can pass files between both Windows and Linux computers. Since I would imagine part of my ping issue is that hostname is not set and user name may not be [not sure if user name is same as login user or if this is different user name] lets tackle username and host name first. How do I set them up? The user name is the login name. derek Thanks for the help Frank HTH derek Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? [newbie] MP3 repair utility, anyone?
Does anybody know of a quick and easy MP3 repair utility, please? I've got a set of MP3s that are showing the wrong bit rate (showing the minimum bit rate of a VBR file, that being 32), and is showing total lengths in the range of about 18-25 mins (whereas they're all in the 2.5 - 5 min range). MP3_check is showing the correct info for the files, but Amarok is reading the incorrect data (and just for these files). TIA for any good hints. Quote: Europe, are you watching? FT.com has the jaw-dropping story about European futures exchanges, brokers and traders preparing for patent infringement claims from Trading Technologies, a US software company, natch, located in Chicago -- where else? -- which has hit on what it appears to view as a pot of gold for itself by obtaining two patents on its MD Trader software product in August of 2004, patents it is now aggressively enforcing. It settled [PDF] two patent infringement cases [PDF] already, under circumstances some are questioning, for some licensing dough, and it is currently suing eSpeed, the electronic arm of Cantor Fitzgerald. eSpeed just had one of its patents ruled invalid in a patent infringement lawsuit it brought in July of 2003, after getting the patent in May, so it's been playing the patent game too. Game? It's like musical chairs. You may also recall eSpeed's Wagner patent. And they say *Linux* needs to grow up. TT has suggested to the four main futures exchanges ___- two in Chicago and two in Europe, Euronext.Liffe and Eurex ___- that they should cross its palm with silver to keep it from launching patent infringement lawsuits against them. I've attatched an example of one of those viewed in Easytag. The results are about the same in Amarok. This is a VBR file with a bit rate of ~224, which should be way shorter than 16:33 mins and which, when played in Amarok, is way shorter. The file is confused internally, as far as I can see, not in the tag. -- 16:30:01 up 10 days, 10:48, running Mandrakelinux release 10.1 (Official) for i586, kernel 2.6.8.1-12mdk Registered Linux user #324360 I stood on the leading edge, The eastern seaboard at my feet. [newbie] amarok 1.2.1 - Bugfix Release
A bugfix release of amaroK has been made, version 1.2.1, and as I have been, I made packages of it for Mandrake 10.1. http://www.gkmweb.com/amarok/10.1 Please note that this will probably be the last set of packages that I do of amaroK for Mandrake 10.1, as the devs are going to drop KDE 3.2.x support and I myself am going to move on to cooker/10.2.
