Looks like it is trying to send samba packets out over your ADSL
interface. Check /etc/samba/smb.conf and make sure your 'interfaces'
parameter only includes the local net. If you have no interfaces
parameter samba will work over all local interfaces.

Have you opened up your firewall between your samba server and the

In /etc/shorewall/rules you need lines like :

 ACCEPTfw masqudp 137,138,139
 ACCEPTmasqfw tcp 137,138,139
 ACCEPTmasqfw udp 137,138,139

(Depending on your mandrake release your local network may be called
 'masq' or 'loc' )
 Then 'shorewall restart'

Other thing to check is in /etc/samba/smb.conf set
   wins support = yes

[newbie] Nice surfing

2003-10-29 Thread Kristjan
Hi

I know it is possible, Only question remains. How?

I have a slow connection to the internet so I want to use it to the
maximum. But also so that when I want to download the new isos it will
not disturb surfing for my wife at the same time.

I use usually wget to fech the files. I know I can set the limit rate to
some value, but it is not efficent, because it leaves a fixed ammount of
internet pipe ressource unused even when nobody needs the free rate

I want to limit the rate automatically. Whenever somebody (read:
some process) want to use the internet pipe it should get the priority
and when the pipe is free ( I mean not used by anybody else) then
wget gets the full bandwidth to fech the isos for me.

I looked into nice value, but it has more effect on the processor load
and does not seem to have effect on the internet pipe.

Has anybody some suggestions ?

By the way I have dsl connection using ppoe (and the devide is ppp0)

Well I may not know what went wrong, but I have a couple of
 suggestions.

 1. Open the K3b setup program again.

 2. Re-install K3b.

One of those should work I believe.

I have uninstalled and removed just about any conf file I still had
left. and reinstalled at least 3 times.

The version 08 from mdk9.1 cds did not start, The one v0.10 from textar
did not start.
Then I got the version 0.9 from rpmfind . It had one dependanct
problem when installing, but I got it resolved.
But when It starts then it also crashes immediately with signal 11
(sigsegv)

So at least I am back in the stage I started.

Only thing I did before it stopped working was that I changed the
partition table of my spare drive. but that can not have
anything to do with that k3b crashes. it is not logical.

[newbie] Sound editing question

2003-08-01 Thread Kristjan
I have one slight questions about sound editors

I have a general thing I need to do each week.
Cut one 2 hour wav file into peaces. then convert into mp3 and make
available in internet.

I have tried to use Audacity. It is a nice tool, but have its problems.
It likes to hang my system (x) sometimes very often, and it performing
very slow on my 400 PII computer.

Then I'v found a nice peace of soft named sweep
It is working very fast and has a very nice UI (that I like).
Sweep has another problem. It is able to work on smaller files and it
refuses to open my 2 hour long files.

the error sweep declares is

GLib-ERROR **: could not allocate 1175879680 bytes
aborting...
Aborted

So my question is that is there maybe a way I can work it over and still
use sweep. (I have 5G of free space, so the space allocation is not
concerned my space actually)

I very much apprechiate any suggestions.

Looks like you are missing the libexif library. If it is required, it should
be listed in the spec file as a build requires, so you should report this bug
 to bugzilla. Try

 urpmi libexif

 and try again.

Right

result is as following
[root@...]# urpmi libexif
everything already installed

But as I see I realli don't have the file /usr/lib/libexif.la

In usr/lib I have 4 files of libexif

/usr/lib/libexif.so.7.0.0
/usr/lib/libexif.so.7
/usr/lib/libexif.so.8
/usr/lib/libexif.so.8.0.0

[newbie] Konqueror Java question

2003-02-15 Thread Kristjan

Hi

I have still a minor problem in Konqueror as I dont see javascript in it
I have KDE 3.1 MDK 9.0

one example
www.mamboserver.com (a nice CMS)

They have menu on top of the page (under the logo) made with javascript
I see it without any problems in Mozilla (1.1), but do not in Konqueror.

I have enabled Javascript and Java on Konqueror settings.
Also the path to java is correct ( /usr/java/j2re1.4.1/bin/java )

So can anybody advise what I need to check to get javascripts work in Konqueror.

I had the problem already on KDE 3.0.x so upgrade has nothing to do.

Kristjan, in the konqueror settingsconfigure konqueror, do you see the icon
labeled java and Java script on the right of the window? If so click on
that and you will see a tab that says javascript. Open that tab and see if
the enable javascript globally is checked. It should be, but you never

[newbie] converting a lot of images

only question is how to do that

I have around 100 images that need to be prepared for a web presentation. That is html

They are different sizes 1028x768 and some are bit smaller.

I need them in 2 sizes, all the same
1 - 187 x 140
2 - 512 x 348

has anyone ides for me hoto do that. I rather spend some time to get it done

Easy enough just edit /etc/shorewall/rules It is full of examples. Right at
the bottom are the actual rules. You will notice there is a line for each
combination of traffic; Network to firewall, lan (or masq) to firewall, lan
to net and so on. Just put the protocol names or port numbers in the
appropriate line (http is port 80, ssh is port 22)
Then restart shorewall with 'service shorewall restart'

Thank you Derek
That was easy
but I also had to go throuh all the httpd related config files to make the webs
actually served over the lan.
The default config was sooo restrictive.

Also can I be safe (on system stability) when adding the coocer source for contrib and

 Good luck, hope this helps.

Thanks Joe
It helped, got the picture. So easy things, but sometimes just have to come to that.

there is one more thing, selecting fullscreen only adds large black borders but does
not enlargen the video picture. I didnt find any settinds conserning that ? doubt that
its the way it should be.

Re: [newbie] no sound in MDK9.0 with ESS1688 ISA card

modules (at least, I do no see any specific message in /var/log/info

- there is no /dev/sound directory
- Mandrake Control Center does not display any sound card.

Any suggestions for what to look for?

If sndconfig is not installed, then install it and just run
sndconfig. I just did a from scratch Mandrake 9 install and that's
   what I wound up doing.

   Cheers,

I have the same problem with my sound card. I issued the sndconfig command
and it looks like it went into the probing stage and never came out of it.

You have to click OK to get it to probe. Probing can take some time...

  I
had to kill the KDE window in order to get it to stop. My sound is still not
configured. LM8.0, 8.1 and 8.2 configured the same sound card automatically
during the install without any intervention.

How did LM8.0, 8.1 and 8.2 do it then?

  Thanx,

  Seedkum

Well it's often advised to run sndconfig in a virtual console and not under X.

ML9.0 doesn't automatically configure ISA soundcards because it hung some
people's systems during install (IIRC from the cooker list).

I don't know how ML8.0, 8.1 and 8.2 configured the soundcard. I am quite sure
though that it can also work in Dolphin :)

For most soundcards there are both OSS and ALSA drivers available in ML9.0.
The ALSA ones in Dolphin are based upon ALSA 0.9.0rc2 while 8.2 had the
0.5.x series ALSA drivers. What would be nice is if you still have your
/etc/modules.conf from 8.2. Oh, what soundcard do you have and were you
using ALSA (sndconfig is OSS only) ?

 Good luck!

Hi
sort of same problem here
sndconfig detects the OPTI audio 16 card (isa pnp),
now when starting probing it results errors here as following:

/lib/modules/2.4.19-16mdk/kernel/drivers/sound/mad16.o.gz:
init_module: No such device
modprobe: insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.19-16mdk/kernel/drivers/sound/mad16.o.gz
failed
modprobe: insmod sound-slot-0 failed

in MDK 8,2 sndconfig did output sound samples in this point.
and after running that tool I had sound forever (untill i installed 9,0)

[newbie] BIOS Upgrade

2002-10-01 Thread Kristjan Klementi

First my appologies to Mr Adams for sending that mail first to him instead of the
newbie list.

So...
I wanted to replace my old small HD with new and fast 40G harddrive in my old box that
is from year 99. As suspected the new HD was not recognised by bios.

Tec support suggested to do the BIOS Upgrade as it should do the job.

My only question is how to do that ?
The instructions I have, talk about a DOS bootdisk.
Well I am 100% windows free and need to do that under Linux.

Please advise me how to acomplish this task.

My motherboard is Acorp 6BX86 with Cel400. if anybody wants to know

Regards
Kristjan

Re: [newbie] 8.1 Sound Config Won't Stick

2002-05-13 Thread Kristjan Klementi

Hi
I had a similar problem with (OPTi Audio 16) card
but that one was isa-pnp
did not work after boot and so on. same story every boot.

I got it work by changing BIOS to NO PNP OS
after that I had sound always.

Maybe that could also help you.

good luck
Kristjan

i remember having something like this with my sblive in 8.1, istr that part
of what i did was to delete the sound entries that were in my
/etc/modules.conf and then run harddrake, if you are not sure what entires
those are you can post your file here and we will tell you - backup the file
 first! -

  Couldn't open audio.
  Please check that:
  1. You have the correct output plugin selected
  2. No other program is blocking the sound card
  3. Your sound card is configured properly.

If I then go into HardDrake and configure the sound, it works. However,
next time I boot, it once again does not work, and once again I can
