Hi All, How do I sort this? No support for ATAPI with cdrdao You will not be able to use all your reading devices as copy sources since there is at least one not configured to use SCSI emulation and your system does not support ATAPI with cdrdao. Solution: The best and recommended solution is to enable ide-scsi (SCSI emulation) for all devices. This way you won't have any problems. I know it would better if this was put right.I'm using an IDE DVD-ROM 16x and a TEAC CD-W58E writer. The DVD drive shows up as ATAPI and the TEAC as SCSI drive,in the interface section. [newbie] pmsuspend2 writing to wrong partition
hi, i have an hp pavilion xt118. i am currently running mdk9.2 and am trying to get swsusp to work. when i try it it goes down ok but reboot is slow and comes back with no mouse or keyboard. in my searches i have heard that if you use a seperate swap partition (one that isnt being used for ram) for suspend it works ok. i would like to know if this is true and how to do it. i made a new swap partition and changed the resume=hda() line in the boot section to point to the new partition but i dont know how to make pmsuspend2 write to that swap partition because it only wants to write to the original swap at hda5, not the new one at hda8. thanks in advance, drew Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? [newbie] Instant Message In Mandrake 9.2
Hi All, Tried to send this link the other day, seems I was unsubed like everyone else. I have noticed that a lot of you have been having the same problem that I have had;the inability to install the new versions of Gaim or Kopete,so you can use MSN under Mandrake. http://norlug.org/~chipster/rpm_index.pxml?cat=4 I found the above link when wondering around the net,Gaim works with every IM,I have thrown at it and installs with no dependence issues(it does in 9.2 anyway, don't know about the others). [newbie] Nvidia and 9.2
Hello All, Has any one been able to install the Nvidia drivers on 9.2? I have download the drivers from Nvidia's site, shut down X,and found the drivers(using MC,what a brilliant program),but when I get to the install, things start to go wrong. No correct kernel found,do want to try and get one from the Nvidia site, none found.Install failed, please make sure you have the correct kernel-source. I downloaded the kernel-source from Mandrake, the install gets to the build kernel,it starts OK and gets to about 75% and then fails. Has anyone got a clue how to sort this? [newbie] Nvidia and 9.2
Hi Greg, I have just check the kernel's on my PC(by looking in MCC remove programs).I have kernel-2.4.22.10mdk,kernel-2.4.22.6mdk and kernel-source 2.4.22-21mdk,so none of it match's. Is there any way of making everything match? The only thing I can think off is doing is a fresh full install instead of an upgrade. Drew Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? [newbie] RPM'S and POP3
Hello All, The RPM stuff was about what I expected,it's not a very good idea to use older RPM when using a more up to date Distro(but it can be done if careful). POP 3 was sorted when I managed to get into NTL's account section and set up so more accounts,I've been trying to do this for a while, and all I use to get was time-outs. Hi Mike, I'm trying to install he latest version from the Nvidia wed site, and installing from level 3. what I have done is log into RL3,then try to cd to /home/drew/Documents;which where the drivers are. Which version are you using, the gaim-0.59.8-2mdk package that comes with 9.1? Gaim just did a lot of updating to gtk2, so you might want to try a newer version from cooker (gaim-0.64-3mdk). I seem to remember I didn't like gaim-0.59.8 much. Also, I find the rpms that Gaim itself distributes to be just squiffy. I am using 0.64 now, but am in the process of updating to 0.66. They make mdk rpms. Whatever you do, don't use .65- I think it was pretty broken. Re: [newbie] Partition setup help
I can tell you that there is not correct way to setup your partitions. But, I suggest making Windows the first, ext2 second, and swap third. I am also a beginner. If you have ICQ, please ICQ me at 20177604 Drew Jackman [EMAIL PROTECTED] On Tue, 26 Oct 1999, you wrote: I am so close to setting this up, I can almost taste it. I guess you get delusional after looking at the computer screen for 12 hours straight. Anyway, I can't quite get my hard drive partitioned correctly. I have 12.9 GB hard drive, and want to use approximately 10 GB for win98, and 2.9 for Mandrake Linux 6.1. These are the two setups that seem to be the closest to correct. 1. hde1, 4 GB, Win95 FAT32 hde5, 2 GB, Linux Native - first part of an extended partition (hde2) hde6, 128MB, Linux Swap - second part of an extended partition (hde2) hde7, 6 GB, FAT16 = 32MB or some sort of DOS partition - third part of an extended partition (hde2) This one worked well. LILO booted both Win98, and Linux. The only problem was, after I formatted hde7 as a FAT32 in Win98, Win98 took FOREVER to boot, and after it did, it couldn't see hde7. The only thing I can think of, is that Linux does not support FAT32 as a logical partition in an extended partition, wrote something to the disk and then Win98 couldn't figure out what was going on. Of course, I could be completely wrong, and have no idea what I am talking about. 2. hde1, 4 GB, Win95 FAT32 hde2, 16MB, Linux Native - I did this and mounted it as /boot because it's my understanding that LILO must have /boot within the first 8GB of a hard drive. hde5, 2 GB, Linux Native - first part of an extended partition (hde3) hde6, 128MB, Linux Swap - second part of an extended partitiion (hde3) hde4, 6 GB, some sort of DOS extended partition This setup allowed me to boot both Win 98 and Linux. The problem with this one was that it seems like Win98 only supports ONE primary partition and ONE extended partition per disk. I have 2 primary and 2 extended. Again, I could be completely wrong. No matter what I did with hde4, Win 98 couldn't see it. So basically, I need to know how to partition my 12.9 GB hard drive to have approximately 10 GB for win98, and 2.9 for Mandrake Linux 6.1. Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Collin Davidson
