That is also probably the answer to your question. The X-Real-To appears to be the MTA's header that signals what it received in the mail header as the target or To: of the mail. The To: line that you see in Kmail is actually part of the body of the mail message, not the mail header. MTA's use the header and not the body to direct mail to the recipient so the body piece is ignored, except perhaps by your Kmail filters and the like. So, it appears that some spammer has figured out that he can send mail to you with a fake To: line in the body and try to avoid spam filters in that fashion. I have had this happen in my system as well with spammers forging From: lines in the body instead in an attempt to bypass spam filters. Since my MTA actually filters on the headers, it doesn't work but I do see the results. You might want to create another filter and make it filter on the body and simply dump all messages that appear to be for your colleague. -- Bryan Phinney Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? [newbie] kmail problem
Hi Folks, Recently I got a problem that I could frequently receive emails, which, I guess, are supposedly sent to my colleague. Although most of those emails are spam mails, I believe, it's kinda annoying. Because I don't know whether this problem comes from? Could anyone tell something by analysizing the following property from one of those emails. It's a problem of my Kmail, or my mail server or the guy deliberately sent those emails to me. [newbie] Kmail Problem
Ok 2 Kmail questions probably not related. 1, recently when I start kmail (when machine is first booted up) I get this message box "KDEInit could not kontact-Kmail.sh". Kmail stil starts up and down loads any new mail and seems to work ok. I click ok and the error msbox goes away. There is generaly 5/6 konqueror and 1 gaim sessions starting up at the same time. 2, When I leave the Linux box alone for long periods running Kmail ( set to check for mail every 5 mins), and internet radio through amorok, Kmail seems to take for ever to complete a new mail check. I noticed this just berfore going to bed and so am shutting the pc down, so I dont know if it completes the new mail check. -- Guy Fualks - The only man to enter the houses of Parliament with honest intentions, (he was going to blow them up). I need a little help, please, in setting up Kmail again. A couple of days ago I added a Smart Media card reader to one of my USB ports and (I assume a bug in the driver) as a result the machine would not then boot. Later the USB driver was updated and I noted that a bug had in fact been corrected. The start up problem was then sorted using Mandake 10's CDs to "upgrade" the OS and then all was well except that previously I had been able to fire up a URL within Kmail and now cannot do so. I don't remember having to do anything previously to create a link here (I think to Konqueror) and cannot find anything to help in the help files. I imagine the problem is very simple and basic but it is also proving frustrating and annoying. Any help would be much appreciated. Re: [newbie] KMail problem-one box and multiple users
It's not the solution you're looking for, but I would establish a separate POP account for each user. Some ISPs will set up more than one POP account per customer, or you can do this through any of the free POP services on the net. I'm using softhome.net for just this purpose and recommend it. Once each user has his own separate POP account, you should be able to set each user's instance of Kmail to chech his and only his POP account. -- Warren Post Santa Rosa de Copan, Honduras http://www.srcopan.vze.com/ On Tue, 23 Apr 2002 20:36:19 +0530 "L.V.Gandhi" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Requirement: > I have one PC with mdk 8.2 linux with 3 users A,B and C. > All should have access to the mail retrieved from ISP's pop3 server and should > be able to send mail through ISP's SMTP server. > This is required because in the absence of one another can download mail and > send mail. Kmail can easily be configured to read mail from a local procmail mailbox. As for sending each user can send to the same smpt server using the same account name/password. There is a nice writeup on fetchmail/procmail at mandrakeuser.org and the man pages for fetchmail and procmail are very informative. HTH derek Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? [newbie] KMail problem-one box and multiple users
Requirement: I have one PC with mdk 8.2 linux with 3 users A,B and C. All should have access to the mail retrieved from ISP's pop3 server and should be able to send mail through ISP's SMTP server. This is required because in the absence of one another can download mail and send mail. However they shouldn't have access to other files of the friends. What I made? First I opened kmail in one of the users. This created the necessary files in Mail folder of that user. Then I made a folder Mail in /var/spool/ and copied the files created as above. I did chmod g+rws to /var/spool/Mail. I created group Mail and made all the three members of that group. I made all the files in /var/spool/Mail group rw. Problem Now when the first user connects and downloads mail. OK. But Kmail now changes the inbox permissions rw of that user only. group permissions are removed. Once he replies/composes a mail and sends it outbox permission also changes as above. Because of this other user can not download mail or send any mail. How to avoid these changes? If it can't be avoided how it can be rectified.(users are not expected to do any comand line job or to run any other program) -- L.V.Gandhi 203, Soundaryalahari Apartments, Lawsons Bay colony, Visakhapatnam, 530017 MECON, 5th Floor, RTC Complex, Visakhapatnam AP 530020 INDIA [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] linux user No.205042 Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Kmail is a bit choosy when sending out emails. It works when I send to some addresses, and doesn't with others. A dialog box appears which has the following error, verbatim: Sending failed: a SMTP error occured Command: DATA Response: 250 2.1.5 ... hi, i doubt that this will work, but you could try entering 'user:[EMAIL PROTECTED]' in the kmail smtp server box, however whenever i've seen this sort of login work it is for an interactive session of some sort - ftp etc., otherwise what you need to do is send the mail from kmail to another prog on local host that can be configured to send to smtp.mynewisp.com. i know that postfix will send direct to domains, but perhaps it can be set to send all mail to one server? bascule On Wednesday 05 September 2001 1:37 am, you wrote: > Joan Tur wrote: > > Thank you for the responses I've received so far. [newbie] Kmail problem
Hi all, For some reason kmail no longer allows me to save, print or otherwise work with attachments. If I left click on them, nothing happens, if I right click the only options I get are "open url" and "copy to clipboard". This is true for all types of attachments, text, .ps, .pdf, etc. The copy to clipboard doesn't seem to have any effect. Any ideas how I might get at my attachments? Thanks, Scott Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com

[newbie] Kmail problem - please help
Hello I had to upgrade kmail to version 1.0.29.1 as I was receiving loads of empty messages. Unfortunately the upgrade wasn't sucessful as I thought it would be. I can't download the messages anymore. In fact I can download only if the pop server has less than 10 messages on my mailbox. If it has more tthat I receive an error message: Can't find mail or stmp servers. Could you be so kind to help me out? Many thanks Eduardo

Re: [newbie] KMail Problem
I've had the same problem with various versions of linux. Often the subject relates to some unconnected mail. Only happens on this group mail. I don't know the answer.
