[newbie] OpenGL stuff error messages
hi all. when I try to run OpenGL stuff (in this instance a screensaver, but other stuff too), I get a message like this: [EMAIL PROTECTED] julie]$ xscreensaver-demo xscreensaver-gl-helper: /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1: no version information available (required by xscreensaver-gl-helper) Loading required GL library /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2 glknots: /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1: no version information available (required by glknots) Loading required GL library /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.so.1.2 and the OpenGL stuff does not run on KDE, or on Gnome either. I installed Mandrake 10.0 off discs a while ago, and this problem began after I did the urpmi update. now, the message seems to be saying I am missing GL libraries, but in /usr/X11R6 I have: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 Mar 12 22:45 libgle.so.3 - libgle.so.3 .1.0* -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 108104 Jul 10 2003 libgle.so.3.1.0* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 21 Mar 18 21:08 libGL.so.1 - libGLwrapper .so.0.2.0* -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 269360 Dec 7 2003 libGL.so.1.0* -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 524048 Nov 5 10:39 libGL.so.1.2* -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 2016208 Dec 7 2003 libGL.so.1.4.502* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 Mar 12 10:24 libGLU.so.1 - libGLU.so.1 .3.502* -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 568548 Dec 7 2003 libGLU.so.1.3.502* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 Mar 12 10:25 libglut.so.3 - libglut.so .3.7.1* -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 222352 Dec 7 2003 libglut.so.3.7.1* -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 203680 Dec 7 2003 libGLwrapper.so.0.2.0* lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 Mar 14 09:08 libGLw.so.1 - libGLw.so.1 .0* -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 22728 Nov 5 10:39 libGLw.so.1.0* I don't understand why it says it can't read the version information. [newbie] opengl not supported
I am running LM8.0 with a motherboard that has the sis620 chipset. The video driver is xfree86-3.3.6 experimental 3D. It did not want to work with xfree86-4.0.6 There is supposed to be another driver but everytime I look for it I find only dead links. I seem to have the latest glibc files installed as well as all 5 libSDL1.1 files. When I try to run xtraceroute I get 'opengl not supported' even though I have all the files. I downloaded the libSDL1.2 files but cannot seem to install them due to some cryptic dependancys. Anybody else gone down this path before? Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? [newbie] OpenGL getting there
Hello I got some new results. I played around with the glx.conf, mesa.conf and XF86Config-4.conf files . And I also played around in my Bios. There is a setting in the Bios labelled Pipe something I disabled it and also Video Bios Cacheable. No I can run OpenGL, sort of. There is still a problem, that being apps that full screen. Only sort of do. They make the whole screen black, the screen resolution stays at my desktop resolution (1280x1024) and the app runs at it's own resolution. e.g. TuxRacer run at 640x480.In other words I have a screen that is 1280x1024 with a small 640x480 window in the middle, and black all around. (I put up a screen shot http://pascal.idws.com/shot1.jpg to illustrate it). I tried using Cntl++ and Cntrl+- to resize the desktop, to match the game (i.e. 640x480), but when I do that I get the old segmentation fault error again. I think there is some problem with it equalling the desktop size, i.e. going full screen. Then it appears the only way to get any OpenGl anything to run is to restart the machine (could it be some temp file, since I have setup the /tmp gets cleaned on start up?) But atleast I can play something now :) Robert MacLean Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://.mandrakestore.com
[newbie] OpenGL woes
Hi I'm having problems with OpenGL on M8 and I think it's driver related. I'm running the 12.41 nVidia drivers for my Geforce 2 MX. (Indecently the corresponding 12.41 Win2K drivers work, but are unstable. Thus the reason I'm using the 6.50 Win2k drivers). What is happening is that some times OpenGL programs work and other times not. This effects both KDE and GNome. For Instance I can Chromium fine, I try run Tux Racer it won't run, then Chromium won't run any more either. I restart the whole machine and then nothing runs. I restart again and try Tux and it works, but then Chromium won't. I can't see any pattern causing the problem. If I change the driver from 'nvidia' to 'nv' everything runs normally but it is sooo slow. If anyone can help or point me in the direction of old nvidia drivers for M8 I would greatly appreciate it. Re: [newbie] OpenGL
Jamie, To play Tuxracer, you must make sure that 1) the stock driver for your video card supports accelerated graphics. (For instance, the stock NVidia driver does not). I don't know squat about your video card, so I can't help you any more here. 2) To use OpenGL, X must be OpenGL-ready via the Mesa RPMs. You should double-check that you have Mesa installed with rpm -qa | grep Mesa which should list Mesa, Mesa-common, and Mesa-demos (well, I don't think you really _must_ have this last one). If they're not, pop in your installation CDs and install them. Paul - I'm not an expert but I think Mesa is a 3D interface for running OpenGL software/hardware. I'm not sure if your video card will support OpenGL. I know many newer 3D accelerators do (3DFX Voodoo, nVidia TNT2/GEforce, Matrox G400, etc). I would check out Mesa and see if it supports your video card (i think it has a website ... www.mesa.org?) If it does I would check your Mesa configuration. If it doesn't, you maybe out of luck if the game requires Mesa to run (Quake 3/Unreal Tournament?) Hope this helps you out some. Re: [newbie] OpenGL
Kind of. OpenGL is the standard and MesaGL is the open source implementation of it. For CopyWrite reasons Mesa cannot call themselves OpenGL so they are at best OpenGL "compliant". Now it is true that a true OpenGL graphics library must be based on the OpenGL "Sample Implementation" put out by SGI. The way I understand it Mesa didn't get the "SI" from SGI they simply took SGI's published standards and created Mesa from scratch to match it, that makes it "technically" legal. I also believe that the NVidia GLX drivers are true OpenGL, but I don't know for sure. Most Linux software that requires OpenGL will use the Mesa libraries. Some will use nothing but Mesa as can be shone by the fact that XMMS GL plugins will not work with my NVidia GLX drivers installed. Re: [newbie] OpenGL
Well it kind of depends. OpenGL is a graphics library and I seriously doubt that there is an OpenGL rpm on your system. Try rpm -qa | grep opengl. The missing OpenGL support that the game is refering has to do with your graphics card drivers. So the question becomes what kind of graphics card are you using and does it support OpenGL. A OpenGL rpm would be something developers would use in order to create graphic images, etc. Larry -- Larry Hignight Descent 3 Beta Tester Caldera Linux 2.4 5:10pm up 2 days, 21:06, 4 users, load average: 0.01, 0.12, 0.08 KompuKit wrote: I have a Pentium 233 MMX 64 mg ram a S3 video card Rev 1.0 drivers (in windows) I'm trying to install a game: Search and Rescue for Linux helicopter game that requires OpenGL... it won't compile...unless it's on my system... [newbie] OpenGL for NVidia cards?
Hi all! Just read the Quake II how-to. I'm wondering, why in Linux OpenGL is only for 3dFX cards, where it is (IMHO) poorly implemented, and not for NVidia's Riva TNT2? I have the latter, that's why it's so frustating... Is there any plans to make OpenGL for TNT2? If the question is stupid, I'm sorry. :-) Thanks, -- Koly
[newbie] OpenGL Error
Hey, I was working on getting my TNT2 / Voodoo2 To Work in LiNuX. I got it to run Q3A, but whenever I try to change ANY Options, it gives me the following error: ..loading opengl32: QGL_Init: Can't load opengl32 from /etc/ld.so.conf orcurrent dir: /usr/3demo/opengl32: cannot open shared object file: No such fileor directory I installed the TNT2 Drivers from NVIDIA, and run the MESA 3dfx drivers that came w/ Q3A. I got the 3dfx drivers from linux.3dfx.com . Any Help Would Gladly be Appreciated, ChOPpY C. Chipper

Hi, there is no such beast as a tnt driver for Ogl for Xi software. Greetings Michael -- Sent through Global Message Exchange - http://www.gmx.net

[newbie] OpenGL and Xfree86
I have Mandrake 6.1 and a TNT board. I saw the so called TNT driver included with Mandrake 6.1 (xfree 3.3.4-5) is a simple SVGA driver. SO here are my questions : 1- I went to xfree86.org and tried to get xfree 3.3.5 on their ftp site. But which files should I take ? Why isn't there just one RPM file ??? 2- I would like to test the TNT with an OpenGL program. So how can I install OpenGL ? Is it part of Xfree86 ? 3- could you please give me the address of a very simple OpenGL program that could test the board ? thanks Cyril
