Just go into your contacts and click on the downward pointing arrow next to the New button in the top left of the screen. Then choose Contact List in the menu which pops up. [newbie] modem problem
I just bought a USR 5610b modem that was recommended by several knowledgeable folks to work fine with Linux. It seems to want to use Com 4, which I assume is /dev/ttys3. When I look in the /dev directory ttys3 is linked to pty/s51. I suppose that's why my comm and fax programs complain that the modem is either busy or locked? Should I remove that link? When I set my file associations to use a default browser other than konqueror I always get this in the address along with a message could not open file. I'd like to change my default browser from Konqueror. URLs in mail messages can be opened from within the message with Konqueror as the default browser. If I go into file associations and change the default browser to anything else here's what happens: Here's the URL for example, http://honestreporting.com/a/r/323.asp. With Konqueror as the default it opens and goes to that site. If the default browser is something else the browser opens, then I get: file:///root/.kde/share/apps/kfmexec/tmp/26647.0.323.asp, where the address should be.. Konqueror is ok, and it's getting better with each release, but I don't like having no choice. My apologies if this topic has been covered recently. I like openoffice basically, but it is very slow to lauch and the fonts in the program itself, like on menus etc., are not nearly as sharp as it seems they ought to be. That being said, is it worth the few extra $$ to get StarOffice, or can I at least fix the font weirdness in openoffice? [newbie] LM 9 and RealPlayer 8
Has anyone installed RealPlayer 8 with LM 9 yet? The last time I installed realplayer was with LM 8.1 and it took over lots of my file associations and didn't want to give them back. Is this still the case or will it allow me to keep my file associations I have presently intact? [newbie] LM 9 scsi problem
I installed Mandrake 9 yesterday, no apparent problems. I tried using my HP 5p SCSI scanner today and xsane can't see it. If I do cat /proc/scsi/scsi both my SCSI devices are recognized. I have a CD burner set up as IDE-SCSI that had been working fine along with the scanner. Now neither work. I notice when I boot the system the first message I get is that the scanner SCSI card driver doesn't get loaded, then I get insmod exited abruptly. Where should start looking for the problem? It's beginning to look like a general SCSI problem. [newbie] Palm m500 and JPilot
Hello, I've got a Palm m500 and am making no headway with pilot-link or JPilot. This is Mandrake 8.1, btw. What device should my Palm be? It sits in a USB cradle. Anything at all would help. Please help get me started or tell me where to RTFM. I'm using JPilot version 99.1 and pilot-link version 9.5. I can't get any newer versions of these installed without running into lots of dependancy problems. These versions are from the Mandrake 8.2 CDs, and they installed fine. [newbie] 8.2 breaking things
I just installed Mandrake 8.2. Everything looks okay, except for the fact that there are several programs I have that ran under 8.1 that when I install them in 8.2 come up with dependency errors. One program is WordPerfect 8; it won't install at all. Another is Opera 6, which is looking for a file I can't find. I just reinstalled 8.1 and all is well again. Are other people having these kinds of problems? Incidentally, the problems I'm having crop up with a clean install as well as an upgrade from 8.1. [newbie] clock keeping correct time?
I'm running Mandrake 8.1. Every time I reboot the time on the clock is off by usually 8 hours. I reset it then if I have to reboot to go to Window$ then I have to set it again. It's not a big deal, but doesn anyone have an idea? And yes, the clock in the BIOS is set correctly. [newbie] xmms problem
I have xmms installed. I was working fine, I had it associated with .wav files, etc., no problem. Then I installed RealPlayer 8, which worked well, but nuked my .wav sound file associations. I restored them to associate with xmms, but no go. Then i uninstalled RealPlayer. I rebooted, got the correct .wav icons back from RealPlayer, but now xmms will start from a command line but not from the Multimedia menu. [newbie] kernel upgrade
I installed the latest kernel RPM, 2.2.9-27 and there's no problem installing, recompiling, etc. The problem I'm having is with the modules. I do a "make modles" and "make modules_install" and the modules get installed to the old module directory instead of the new one. Any ideas? Or does it matter? Not to start a "my modem is better than your modem" war, but a tidbit of info, I've personally experienced to bring home the point, "Top of the Line" does not always equate to "best performance". Stefan Dozier [EMAIL PROTECTED] Stefan, I didn't mean to imply at all that price=quality. I've just had good luck with that modem. Your experience with the Sportster is certainly good news as those modems did have problems a while back. I also had a Supra FaxModem that worked great also, but I don't know what their stuff is like now. It's certainly a lot cheaper. The one I had also had that neat feature of being able to recognize a fax carrier and route the signal to the appropriate place. I would be interested in knowing what other modems of recent vintage that people are using successfully under Linux.
