The article says Mandrake bought the domains Mandriva.com and Mandriva.net. Conectiva bought the domain mandriva.com.br And the latest newsletter says Mandrake is going to incorporate elements of technology from Conectiva, particularly in the area of the smart package management software and some of Conectiva's kernel enhancements. I invariably get it backwards and have to stop and transcode the other english track. I haven't used dvdrip for some time, but IMS it should select the right audio track for you once the main movie is selected, which it also does. In the first step, dvdrip rips all the audio tracks, but you have to select one for volume scanning. Once the dvd is wholly ripped, click on the Clip and Zoom Tab and click on the Show Movie From here button. You should hear the right movie sound track. I've got a few of them in use but I never did catch all of them. A few words of caution. 'bdcd' is currently alias bdcd='cdrecord -v -eject driveropts=burnfree speed=24 dev=ATA:1,1,0 -data' ~ See the difference? I run cooker and I've been kept shuffled between scsi-emulation and ATA. Current 10.1 beta's have me back to ATA, which requires adjusting my aliases and editing fstab to point to the proper device (ie, scd* or hd*). 'cdrecord -scanbus' will alert you as to which to use. In some early implementations only 'cdrecord dev=ATA: -scanbus' will work. So try both. Much of the above (ie, scsi/ATA) is why GUI's often fail. Also, for anything but audio cd's an image must be made first, then burned. In the case of 'biso', you've probly already got an image (ie, iso) so just 'biso name_of.iso' does it. For data files, 'mkcdimg /path/to/dir/' makes an image of all the files in dir/. The image is named 'cd_image' and is created in the dir you run the mkcdimg command in. Then burn with 'bdcd cd_image' in that directory. 'du cd_image' must be less than 702MB's. Overburning is not advised (doesn't work anyhow ;) For audio CD's 'bacd' needs to be run in the dir the .wav's are in. I've needed to add -sao to do audio burns. To avoid errors when the total time of the wav's is close to 80 minutes. I believe this is due to a change in newer cdrecord versions. alias bacd='cdrecord -v -eject driveropts=burnfree speed=24 dev=ATA:1,1,0 -sao -pad -audio *.wav' As to credit: Most all of my burning aliases were shamelessly stolen or adapted from examples in the CD-Writing-How-To and some other online sources. . out of disgust and frustration with GUI apps for burning ;) All my burning aliases were shamelessly adapted from yours 8-) In fact, thanks to you, I came to realise how useful aliases can be. -- Josenildo Marques ICQ 289971493 +++ Homepage http://cyb.ezdir.net usuário Linux registrado No. 341648 ** E que tudo seja igual e que tudo seja outra coisa. Should you get this working in 10.0, please advise. One point - the content of my /etc/modules.conf ATM looks like: probeall scsi_hostadapter aic7xxx probeall usb-interface usb-uhci alias agpgart via-agp alias eth0 tulip above snd-emu10k1 snd-pcm-oss alias sound-slot-0 snd-emu10k1 options snd-emu10k1 enable=1 I'm confused slightly on these settings. When my box boots up, I definitely see the Using Alsa driver emu10k1 message. Now IIRC, the snd part means I'm using the ALSA, right? The line above tells me I'm using oss though, if I interpret it correctly. I did fiddle with the settings a couple of times, and through a number of reboots later got it to finally spit out Using ALSA driver but I'm thinking that the particular driver was always there -- because when I launch kmix I get a large number of sliders (with the other driver I only get a few, and a missing /dev/sequencer. (Trying to cat a midi to /dev/sequencer results in a no space left on device message). The second part mentions kmidi, which I do not seem to have. But if I run urpmi kmidi I get everything already installed - but no output if I do urpmf /usr/bin/kmidi. Seems perhaps I'll need to rerun urpmi. I did that, still no kmidi, that package seems to not be part of 10.0. Sorry I took so long to respond. I've just done and it is working like a charm. I have a Sound Blaster Live! card. Here is the content of my modules.conf file. probeall usb-interface usb-ohci alias sound-slot-1 snd-emu10k1 above snd-cmipci snd-pcm-oss alias eth0 3c59x above snd-emu10k1 snd-pcm-oss alias sound-slot-0 snd-cmipci As you can see, they're pretty much the same, so I guess you're running Alsa. The article whose link I sent says we have to install the following packages: awesfx and awesfx-devel. So, I did it. Then, I created the directory /usr/share/midi and copied the sound fonts to the newly-created directory # cp /mnt/cdrom/AUDIO/COMMON/SFBANK/8MBGMSFX.SF2 /usr/share/midi And, finally, I ran the command below to load the sound fonts # sfxload /usr/share/midi/8MBGMSFX.SF2 The trick here is to run that command every time Linux boots up. otherwise the fonts won't load up again. I started Kmid (not Kmidi) and chose the second MIDI device. Then I opened a .kar file and it all worked. A .kar file is just like a .mid file; the difference is that .kar files have text. I also have Timidity installed and it's playing .mid files flawlessly. If you're using KDE, you probably have to kill Arts before playing midi files. There's also playmidi, which you might want to check out. Just urpmi it. Let me know how it goes. [newbie] creating an audio CD without pre-gaps
Suppose you have some mp3s or wav files lying on your HD and you'd like to burn a CD with them without those 2-second stops between the songs. Here's what you could do. 1. if you have mp3s, then you have to turn them into .wav files. 2. fire up your favourite text editor and create a .toc file like the one below. (Rename the songs accordingly or write the whole song title) -- CD_DA TRACK AUDIO AUDIOFILE song1.wav 0 TRACK AUDIO AUDIOFILE song2.wav 0 TRACK AUDIO AUDIOFILE song3.wav 0 TRACK AUDIO AUDIOFILE song4.wav 0 TRACK AUDIO AUDIOFILE song5.wav 0 TRACK AUDIO AUDIOFILE song6.wav 0 TRACK AUDIO AUDIOFILE song7.wav 0 TRACK AUDIO AUDIOFILE song8.wav 0 TRACK AUDIO AUDIOFILE song9.wav 0 TRACK AUDIO AUDIOFILE song10.wav 0 TRACK AUDIO AUDIOFILE song11.wav 0 3. Assuming you have saved it as mycd.toc and all the songs are in the same folder, just run the command $ cdrdao write --device 0,0,0 --driver generic-mmc --speed 8 mycd.toc I tried to do that with GcdMaster, a cdrdao front-end, but it seemed more difficult than the method above.
