AT&T Standard Cisco ASA for MPLS?

Does anyone happen to know what the standard Cisco ASA box that AT&T uses for
their MPLS lines? We're trying to figure out who's paying, and exactly what
they're paying for? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks so much,

Dial-up Settings...Anyway to move usernames AND passwords?

2010-05-10 Thread Marty Nelson
Greetings all;

Here's the story, I have a Windows XP machine that is starting to show its age
so I'm thinking about retiring it. The problem with retiring it is that this
machine is my companies' primary dial-out machine for us to support our
customers that don't have high speed connections. It has three dozen or so
connections, and while I know I can move the .pbk to the new machine, that only
brings over the names and phone numbers. Don't get me wrong, that's extremely
helpful, however it's only half of what I need. This is a prime example of why
documenting everything is 100% necessary...well ok, maybe not everything.

I guess what I'm asking is, does anyone know of a hack, a shareware/freeware
program, or any way of getting those passwords over to a new computer (Probably
Windows 7)?

Thanks so much,

-Marty

New to VIPRE - how to uninstall old AV product automatically

2010-04-22 Thread Marty Nelson
How's it going?

I'm sitting here trying to figure out how to uninstall Symantec's AV from a
machine automatically using the VIPRE install agent. I've downloaded the
uninstaller from Sunbelt; I just don't know what to do with it! I've followed
the instructions about changing the packages folder to .bat, I then put the new
package folder (from the download) into the same folder. Do I just run the
agent install like I normally would?

Any help would be appreciated.

RE: Sat Radio for your PBX on hold?

2010-03-04 Thread Marty Nelson
Hey Malcolm thanks for the link. It does a really good job of explaining how
music rights work, and like you said, it was a quick read.

It basically says that if you own a radio station or if you're an aerobics
instructor or street musician, you have to pay something. In some cases it's
not a ton, but it's something!

Again, a short yet really informative article.

Thanks again Malcolm,

As for the legalities, it is illegal to use terrestrial radio as MOH.
When you go to Sirius/XM's station, they partner with this company:

http://www.dynamicmedia-us.com/

In other words, you can probably get away with playing it yourself (I go
to a Schlotsky's restaurant nearby that does it), but as far as
legalities, you're probably on a slippery slope.

The Internet stream DOES time out after a certain amount of inactivity.
Your best best is to get an actual radio with an inside dock and plug it

Stupid question, been wanting to do this for years and Management
finally told me to do it. Anyway, say I sign up for the Sirius internet
streaming and just plunk an old laptop on the top of the PBX rack. Does
the internet stream ever time out or will it stay on indefinitely?
Would be kind of hard to put a physical unit in, would have to get an
antenna outside. Noticed they also have a tabletop radio that uses
internet connection for it's feed. Suppose that would work also if the
feed never times out.
Thanks

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. It sounds like Vipre may be the way to
go, and I thank Roger for the info on it. I'm really hoping that we can get
away from Symantec. I'm just praying that the foul taste that I HATE SPAM left
is something management can get past so that we can go with another Sunbelt
product.

I assume that there's a list like this for Vipre? I guess it would help if I
took a look for myself...!

As far as Forefront, what Jon's saying sounds like a damn good reason not to go
with it. If you need a full copy of sql for Forefront to work l is a HUIGE let
down. It also a shame that is sounds like it doesn't necessarily play well
with other open source SQL servers or I'd imagine that Jon would have gone that
route.

Again thank you all for the suggestions, and if there are more out there keep
them coming!

It also does not have all the "pieces" needed for ForeFront. Been there done

Here's the deal. Our Symantec agreement is up for renewal here in a little bit
and we are looking at possible alternatives. One package that I am
particularly interested in is Microsoft's Forefront. Normally I would cringe

The one thing I haven't yet figured out (as I'm not a great DB man) is that
they sell Forefront with MS SQL (locked down so it only works with Forefront,
at least that's how I read it) or without it. Now the way they phrase things
indicates that MS SQL is needed in one way or another, and I was wondering if
that was really true. Is it possible to use and open source database? Is
anyone here running Forefront? Is so, what's your database solution?

And if not MS's Forefront, then where else should I be looking? I know a while

Symantec for ~10 years now and with the bloat and stability of their programs I

Good move getting away from Symantec security.

We've just made the move from MS Forefront to VIPRE Enterprise. FF was okay
(we still got hit with the rogue av products and other stuff) but far more
difficult to manage and deploy the VIPRE.

I've installed VIPRE on 12, 175 & 250 node networks will little effort.

Vipre is on my list of products to review, although there is on hiccup. We had
some serious issues with Sunbelts "I Hate SPAM" that we ran here for a while.
It was causing Exchange to crash at a rate that was unacceptable (as if there's
an acceptable rate). So management, as well as some others here, felt a bit
burned by it and therefore don't hold Sunbelt in high regard no matter what
their current product is, the awards it's won, etc.

back EOD32 was a favorite, is that still the case? We've been stuck with
Symantec for ~10 years now and with the bloat and stability of their programs I
would really like to get away from them if there's a viable alternative out
there.

Thanks so much,

Copy Local Database of Windows Users to New Server?

2009-12-30 Thread Marty Nelson
Afternoon all.

I was wondering if it's possible to export or copy the local user database from
one server to another (new) server. I'm looking at around 100 users that need
local user accounts and I'd really like to not have to manually recreate them!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Policy Patrol Reviews?

2009-12-09 Thread Marty Nelson
Thanks so much for the lead Roger. CodeTwo has a lower per user cost than
Policy Patrol, which is nice although my concern is how good the product is,
will it crash, etc. The fact that it will be installed on the Exchange server
itself concerns me as I would hate for it to crash!

Do you happen to have any hands on experience with either product?

Jonathan, thanks for the input on Policy Patrol.

Marty,

Take a look at Exchange Rules from http://www.codetwo.com. It's affordable and
can pull the data directly out of AD.

Ideally this program would require no client software, thus taking any control

I'll bump this once hoping to catch those who didn't see it the first time.

Is there a way to transfer local users from one machine to another. Both

Or am I stuck recreating each account?

Please let me apologize!

Both servers are running Windows Server 2003 (Patched to the gills). The users
are local users created to use a resource on that specific machine and because
some are people who do not work here, in fact come are clients, creating domain
accounts on the server itself seemed like the best thing to do at the time.
They have no access to anything, no permissions to do anything else, nada.

I was really hoping I wouldn't have to create all new accounts. :(

Hi guys,

I did a search on subject headings for this year to see if I could find
anything about this, but nothing jumped out at me.

I have a 1-1/2 year old Tandberg Data T24 storage library and the drive just
bit the dust six months out of warranty. Tandberg has told me (as expected,)
“If it turns out the repair and service agreement is close to the cost of a new
unit, that might serve as an option for you as well.”

Before I go down the route of fix or replace I’m wondering if I should look
into disk based backup? I’m looking to backup about 1.5 TB per night in a
window that is about six hours in length between backup and verify.

Anyone have disk based backup that’s fast and working for them?

Thanks,

Evan

I had this same issue with a 1022 printer when printing pdfs the other day. Did
a search for that dll (the one that caused the spooler to bomb) and found a
forum on the HP site where a ton of people had the same issues. There were a
lot of workarounds involved and basically HP stated that they did not have a
fix for it and did not plan on fixing it.

What worked for me was downloading the full driver download from the HP site
(which apparently does not have that dll packaged with it), running the clean
spool utility to remove the original drivers, then manually installing the
drivers that I previously downloaded.

The Configuration Database is an SQL Server (or MSDE) database somewhere. It's
usually called SharePoint_Config (for MOSS at least). So, you have to have SQL
Server or MSDE somewhere, and it needs to be hosting this database.

You can run the SharePoint Technologies Configuration Wizard to reconnect to
the database, but you obviously need to know what your SQL Server name/instance
is...

Sorry, a little more info. This is running on a W2K3 SP@ machine with IE7.
Now it's degraded to the point to where I cannot even connect to the central
management page. Says "Cannot connect to the configuration database."

Now when I set this up originally YEARS ago, I accepted all of the defaults and
now have no idea where the data resides. I have ~* very lightly used
SharePoint sites, none of which are available at the moment.

This database error is a new phenomenon since I last posted

Thanks,

-Marty

So I started the workup to this upgrade yesterday. Got all of the prereq stuff
loaded, ran a prescan everything came back dandy. Ran the upgrade, looked like
it finished with no problems. And that's where it fell off of a cliff.
Looking at the upgrade.log file there are some errors and failures, but I have
no idea what it means, much less how to fix them. If there's anyone out there
that can help me out I would greatly appreciate it!

FWIW, these are the instructions I've been following:

That will run on Windows.

One of our project managers here is looking for an NMS for a project of his and
I suggested Nagios as we use it here and are happy with it. Well no of course
not! The customer wants a Windows based piece of software. Any recommendations?

For all its benefits, I've found that Sharepoint can also be an ugly, nasty,

Morning all, (or afternoon depending on where you are).

Here's the problem I seeing. I have a system (Windows XP Professional) that
I'm controlling remotely through VNC (It's in Australia and I am in
California). The partition is NTFS, however when I go to a folder of file
properties, the security tab isn't there. I have the "General", "Summary", and
"Sharing" tabs are, but no security. I always thought that once you made a
partition NTFS, that's all you needed to set file level permissions.

Please tell me I'm missing something obvious, I'm in a bit of a time crunch and
would really appreciate any help you could provide.

Thanks so much,

-Marty

Sorry, I should have included a lick to the product that I'm referring to.

http://networksecuritytoolkit.org/nst/index.html

My specific question is what types of partitions I need to configure. The Wiki
specifies to use four, but in the config, you have to choose the file system
and that's where I'm hung up. Again any help would be appreciated.

Hey everyone. I was wondering if anyone was using NST in their environment. I
have a spare box that I would like to use for that, but am having a hard time
doing a hard drive install. It recommends 4 partitions, but when I go and

I'm quite happy with our Secure Computing Sidewinders. They rock.

If I were to go Open Source, I'd consider using FreeBSD running PF and
OpenVPN. Unfortunately, SSLExplorer went commercial after being GPL,
so I consider it abandonware, though the source is available on
sourceforge.

RE: Server Room - Suggestions on rack enclosures

2008-07-01 Thread Marty Nelson
Good point, although I picked up a half dozen noname racks from the company
next to me, and the dell versa rails go in perfectly. Not to mention you can
get Dell racks for a decent price if your rep likes ya :p

That being said 90 percent of my servers are dell, with an hp 1u itanium and a
compaq alpha thrown in for fun. Also for what it's worth the barracuda spam
firewall and google mini slide right in as well, although since those have no
rails I suppose it's a moot point

Have you/can you try it from another client machine? That will at
least tell us if the problem is with the client or the server.

> I have the "Use the default gateway on remote server box
> checked", but it doesn't seem to be working.

If you do a "ROUTE PRINT" command on the client, does it show an IP
route to the remote network?

If the client connected to another IP net which has the same network
number? For example, if the remote network is 192.168.1.0/24, and the
client is also on a home LAN which is 192.168.1.0/24, you'll have
trouble. (The kernel IP router will see the local net as the same as
the remote net, and may prefer the local route.)

Any third-party firewall software installed on the client?

Dialed into a RAS server, cannot ping past it.

2008-05-27 Thread Marty Nelson
Morning all;

I have a strange situation that I was drooped into mid-stream. We have an XP
machine dialing into a Windows 2000 RAS server (at a lightning fast 26.4K) and
I can't seem to get past the RAS server. I am able to ping its PPP address, as
well as its LAN address, but I am unable to ping past it, even to its default
gateway. If I do a trace to the default gateway, traffic is dropped at the PPP
address of the RAS server and that's it, we're done.

I've been looking over things, and don't see an obvious reason as to why it's
not working. I have the "Use the default gateway on remote server box
checked", but it doesn't seem to be working.

Any help would be appreciated.

As I was reading this, I knew what would happen at the end. You nailed it.
Unless you expose your phone system to the net (never!) or manage to create
site to site VPN's to you users homes, that's not going to work.
What a lot of people use in those cases are Soft Phones. Soft Phones run on
your PC while it is VPN'd in and offers most of the features of the phone. Ask
about Soft Phones.

Happy New Years all!

The company I work for picked up a couple to play with thinking that when
people work from home, they can pick up one of these phones, take it home, plug
into their home network, VPN into the office and we're all set. When someone
rings their extension in the office rings, it gets forwarded to the 1120E that
the user has taken home.

Well, me being the guinea pig that I am volunteered to take one of these phones
home, and it's not working. Its addressing is setup for DHCP, so it gets an
address from my network, with the default gateway being my wireless AP which
makes sense to me as to why this phone isn't working My wireless AP doesn't
know or care about my laptops PPTP VPN connection, so it's sending the phones
data out to the real world, or most likely dropping it altogether,

Anyhow, any help would be GREATLY appreciated, as I feel like I'm stuck here
and don't know how to get out.

Thanks in advance,

Goodmorning All,

I've been working on installing W2K Pro on a test box and I continually
receive an error during the setup process.

I am able to get to the portion of the CD install where it begins copying
files to the hard drive.  However, each time at about 17% or 18% of the
process I receive an error that a particular file cannot be copied to the
hard drive.  I can hit retry and the same message reappears.  The message
further states that there is something wrong with the CD and if the error
persists to call MS Support.

The test system is a P3/600 with 2 SCSI drives running off of an Adaptec
2940UW controller.  I have swapped all of the parts out:  SCSI cables, IDE
cable for the CD, the actual CD and I've also used 3 different copies of W2K
Professional on CD.

I really don't want to call MS.  Anyone have any suggestions?

TIA

You all may already know this, but IE6 is gone final and is available at
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ . There is a new IEAK6 as well. One
thing that wasn't so clear was how to invoke a corporate download only
version of the setup. After some diggin, here is the syntax to run after
you download the ie6setup.exe file.

ie6setup.exe /c:"ie6wzd.exe /d /s:""E#"

Oddly enough, there is no option to download for Win95. You can download
for any or all of the following:
Win98
WinNT 4.0 SP6a
Win 2000 or XP
WinME

Just thought there would be someone out there who wanted to know.

Just in the last couple of days we are having dramatic browsing slowdowns on
out NT4 network.

Whenevery I try adding printers or PC's to the domain, it takes several
minutes for the browse list to appear. It never used to be that way. Used
to be instantaneous.

I've already used Browser monitor to make sure the Master browser is the
corrrect one. The only protocol configured on any of our workstations is
TCP/IP.

Anyone know what I can look for to troubleshoot this?

Thanks

Check your CMOS and see if there are any options for floppy controller
address/irq/etc and make sure they are set to the motherboard defaults.
I'd give odds that the floppy controller is set in the BIOS to use
something NT can't recognize.

Barring that..

If you really need to use that motherboard, disable the floppy
controller in the BIOS (I'm ASSUMING this is an onboard controller) and
scrounge up or buy a floppy/io controller from somewhere and try with
that. That should work.

Something on your mb is either a little wierd or your CMOS settings are
strange.

If it is something strange on the motherboard, I'd sure as hell find a
different motherboard to build a server around.

Did you check the Hardware Compatibility List for both of the floppies you
tried to use? Do those floppies work in other machines running W2K? If you
can boot from it, then all your cables are connected, your BIOS is cool with
it, so I would just make sure that the devices work under W2K. After that,
maybe there is an issue on the Motherboard itself that W2K isn't happy with.

Yup. I can boot to the floppy, run fdisk, format drives, etc. It's just
when the installation finishes, it doesn't show up in my computer.

Ok, here's the problem...I just built a box, and installed NT server. Great,
however, when I go to My Computer, the floppy does not show up. It lists
all of my other drives, except A:. I've reinstalled server, even installed
workstation, but to no avail. I can boot to the floppy drive, poke around,
and all works well. There's nothing in the event log, and I even tried a
different floppy drive. I'd appreciate any suggestions you might have

There's one policy that shuts off logoff on the start menu only (including
the ability to display the "Log Off Username" option) and a separate option
that gets all the other bases.  Actually, the second one said it turns off
the ability to log off the system in any manner, but it leaves the start
menu thing alone, so you have to disable it in both spots.

IIRC, one used to be able to set up a policy that would disable permission
to shut down.  Doing this, it seems, also kept folks from logging off (as
they had to hit "shut down" in order to log off).

If this still holds, create a group for this user and apply this policy.

MOBO = Asus CUSL2-c (supports 512)
Processor = Intel 1 GHz
Mother board counts all 512 and starts to load 2k server = DUMPS,
2k server will load with 256mb. This is a brand new box so we've tried
different mother board, processor, ram, drive, cd-rom , EVERYTHING to get
it to install. Only successful install was with 256mb ram. After that
when we put in 2nd chip it craps out. We remove chip and all is well.
We've flashed bios on adaptec card, mother board, we've ran diagnositcs on
every component.
I know this has to be issue with 2k and 512mb on the 815e chipset.
However was wondering if someone else had run into this. Other than that
I satisfied with all we've done to note this as an incompatibility
problem.
