As you'll see it looks like a mini witches hat, the hat itself turns in either direction, you'll hear or feel it click as you turn it, each time it clicks the faster the control. For example by default the knob controls the volume, turn it to the first click clockwise and the volume increases slowly, turn to the next click and volume increase is more rapid and so on. On the top of the controller are 3 buttons, 2 which are big and a middle button which is small. The upper of the 2 big buttons is your treble, press once and then turn the knob to adjust treble. The lower button is your bass, press once and then turn knob to adjust base. The smaller button in the middle is your power button, press once to turn power on and press again to turn power off. This button has another default, if held down for 3 seconds the speakers are reset to their default volume, bass and treble settings. Now their could be more options and settings I don't know about, I mentioned that the manual isn't the readable type so everything I've mentioned here I've found out by playing around with the system. There is a little piece that looks like a splitter for input but it is odd that it doesn't connect to a male piece. Re: Winamp Versus wmp Versus VLC Versus....
I use Winamp full time for just about everything except buy music or manage my iDevices, which I use iTunes for. I say this as Winamp can apparently manage your iPod in a limited way, but choose to use iTunes for that and Winamp for others. I know you didn't want anything to rip or burn, but I will pass the below on anyway. The free version of Winamp allows you to rip at a maximum of 8x in the M4A, or iTunes, format. I'm happy with this personally as M4a is the best compared to MP3 in terms of audio quality (excellent) and file size (smaller than even MP3). You can burn with the free version of Winamp as well but I think you are limited to 2x. Anyway back to the point. Winamp is fully accessible providing you use the classic not the bundled modern skin that it comes with. It works with all screen readers, with or without scripts or sets or whatever. I've been using Winamp since 2001, yes 2001, when I was on Windows ME and Winamp was 2.7x, something silly like that. I use 5.622 and it is still as accessible as the early days. There was one unsuccessful version of Winamp, Winamp 3, which was an absolute disaster in terms of accessibility, and almost turned to another player until I tried version 5.0x. Just some thoughts. On 02/12/2011 23:17, Walter wrote: Hi all. I'm toying with the idea of experimenting with various media players. Unfortunately not all are worth the trouble and still others are not accessible with JAWS. At this time I use both VLC witch does a good enough job and WMP which is fine but rather restrictive. I'm referring here to playback and neither ripping nor burning as I use Nero express for burning, and now and then Express burn. For ripping I use CDEX which I like. I used to use Reel player but when I got my PC reformatted I never did reinstall it. My question is how does Winamp compare with the other media players I've mentioned? I have never observed this player being used nor of course tried it. Is it accessible with JAWS 12 and or do you need scripts to access it's functions? How is the playback quality and response time. Sometimes the latest version isn't the best version so in your opinion, what version is the most successful? Finally, what other players would you recommend, free or otherwise. The important thing is ease of use, it is of little use if the sound quality is the best in the world but if you can't use it with a screen reader then it is a waste of time. All comments will be welcome and read. Walter. Update on Winamp was Winamp versus wmp...
Ok folks. I have downloaded the latest version of Winamp. I thank all for their response but have not been able to reply to each and everyone but thank you all. As I said, I've downloaded the latest version and when installing I had three choices, light, standard and full. I opted for the full option, was that a mistake? Or would the standard or light have been a better choice? When I launch Winamp I get the set up dialogue but I'm not sure what it is asking me. The first thing I get is a long list of file types with check boxes, I assume you can either accept them all or uncheck any file type you don't want. I also get a option to enable Winamp agent, what is this? If someone could walk me through this I would be grateful as I don't want to accept stuff that is unnecessary and just confuses things. I haven't ventured from the first dialogue screen on the set up page. Your help would be appreciated. Walter. To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

Hi, Five Live Extra is not geoblocked beyond the UK borders. I even have the AAC 128kb/s stream for that one since there are regularly accessible just the weak WMA with about 32kb/s over the website outside the UK which isn't too much... Simply install Tapin-radio http://www.tapinradio.com/downloads/tapinradio_setup.exe and type bbc into the search field in main window. The search field is also accessible through a shortcut e just like edit fields in browsers. You can arrow down to 5Live Extra in the search list then. Hello Walter. All those checkboxes for filetypes are what you want win amp to be able to play. I usually just choose select all. From what I know standard should be fine. Also, and this is key. If jaws ever doesn't seem to be reading right odds are you have changed the skin by accident. You can only use the classic skin from what I know. You can change this easily by hitting control p for preferences and then s for skins and choose classic and hit enter. that's not quite true, there are different quality decoders out there for MP3 files for example, the Mad plug-in for Winamp is one of the nicest I've heard. There are others. Re: Winamp Versus wmp Versus VLC Versus Versus....
I'll throw a forth player into the discussion, I like Itunes, the people at GW Micro have - at long last - done a great job with the iTunes scripts and it works like clockwork. the software can be a little challenging for beginners but there are plenty of help guides and tutorials around. I mainly like iTunes I have to admit for the Smart Playlist feature where you can create aplaylist and literally programme it to play what you want to be played, for example if a song has been played over so many times, if a song was added on a particular date and so on. Winamp should suffice most uses yep, I thought Real Player was a part of history now? I've used VLC with the Mac and love it! a very nice player though as yet haven't tried it under Windows, I'm told that its accessible? Certainly the last Windows version I tried quite some years ago wasn't. On 3/12/2011 11:04 AM, Tom Kaufman wrote: I haven't tried all of the players you mentioned. You can certainly find batteries for them yep and bigger hard drives too! best place to look is at Ebay. Then you'll have to get someone to put the battery in for you and its not something that's easily done, your local service shop should have the tools to do it. Re: Update on Winamp was Winamp versus wmp...
I've just unchecked Winamp Agent because it's just another process I don't think I need running on my PC. I don't install enough media players, and I'm careful when I do, so I don't worry about my file associations getting taken over. That being said, it's a good precaution for anyone who is worried about it or has had a bad experience with losing their file associations. I haven't run it in a while, but I don't think there's an accessibility issue with JAWS. I'd be curious to know where FS recommends not running Winamp Agent. There's another utility called Winamp Remote, or something like that, which as I recall is not accessible and can get in your way of your winamp experience. It has something to do with controling winamp remotely. I've always unchecked this option. Winamp has a nice feature of remembering your settings from your previous install, and there's an option somewhere where you just tell it to install Winamp the same way you did before. This is nice because you don't have to worry about remembering which buttons to check and unchecked. Unfortunately, because of this, I can't recall which options I frequently unchecked! Smaller most definitely there is no doubt about that! It's one of the only mp3 players around that has a line output for example. And newer technology does not necessarily mean better sound quality in the end. Would be interesting to do a straight comparison between the iriver and my Nokia e52 which is reputed to have better sound quality than the Apple range of devices. -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Dane Trethowan Sent: 03 December 2011 08:48 PM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Re: changing the batteries on my iriver h320 mp3 player I'm not one to confirm or deny your doubt, I've found better quality MP3 players around yep! and don't forget that technology has marched ahead in leaps and bounds since that player has come onto the market what.. some 8 years ago? Yep, exactly what I thought you'd say, said the very same things about a year and a half ago smile. The Iriver 320 is certainly not the only MP3 player to have a true line out as I told you a year and a half ago, the status quo still remains smile. RE: olympus dm 420 digital recorder
Yeah, like Dain says, blind cool tech has some, and I have a DM-420. It's okay for what it is I guess, but it only records in MP3 and WMA. I'm a PCM WAV guy. I prefer PCM WAV. So, I really want to get the LS-7. But like I said, the DM-420 is okay, I mean they call it the recorder of champions. So, what does that tell you? It must be some good if they call it that, right? But, it's just not exactly right for me. -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Doc wright Sent: Saturday, December 03, 2011 1:03 AM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: olympus dm 420 digital recorder does anyone know where I can find a podcast for this device - Original Message - From: jason kb3...@verizon.net To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Friday, December 02, 2011 12:45 AM Subject: Re: Altec Lansing Expressions Plus Ultra Speaker Ssytem Hello I want to know these speakers you are describing are they the best on the market that are accessible to us or is there sonie ones and creative labs ones as well I am just trying to find out everyone's opinion on here about speakers before purchasing them. RE: changing the batteries on my iriver h320 mp3 player
Jim Does Iriver still make mp3 players I wonder or was the venerable h300 series the last one? They were remarkable for their time I think. Bulky yes but they did very well especially regarding recording and playback. They also had surprisingly good internal microphones while the noise of the internal hard drive was negligible. But of course it did not have many of the fancy functions of the Ipod series of players. It probably depended what you wanted from such a machine. I would not be surprised if some folks still use theres. Cheers. - Original Message - From: André van Deventer andred...@webafrica.org.za To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Saturday, December 03, 2011 4:22 PM Subject: RE: changing the batteries on my iriver h320 mp3 player Smaller most definitely there is no doubt about that! If you like the player then stick with it. On 4/12/2011 5:37 AM, André van Deventer wrote: I see there are actually youtube videos explaining exactly how to do this. And with rockbox loaded on it you should have a very accessible mp3 player also. I sincerely doubt whether the newer players although much smaller will actually give you better sound quality. I have quite a few electronics friends who would be able to do this for me. -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Dane trethowan Sent: 03 December 2011 07:31 PM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Re: changing the batteries on my iriver h320 mp3 player You can certainly find batteries for them yep and bigger hard drives too! best place to look is at Ebay. Then you'll have to get someone to put the battery in for you and its not something that's easily done, your local service shop should have the tools to do it. I have one of these machines myself, don't use it that much as there are better around now but I certainly wouldn't throw it away and I've gone down the very same road you're travelling right now. Yes I know most folks will now tell me that tis is an ancient and clumsy machine but it seems a shame to throw the machine away simply because of this. It is big yes but probably still one of the better mp3 players that came out. I think the batteries on my Iriver 320 has gon down. Does anyone know if it would still be possible to find batteries for them? I also heard somewhere that it is actually possible to upgrade the small disk drive too?
