The LS-7 is a bit clearer sounding though and it has a better stereo spread.
Nogt by much, but you can hear it.

None of these are marketed as dictation recorders. The DM520 is, and the
LS7 sounds almost identical to it, thus I call it a glorified dictation
recorder. In effect, I am saying, ehre and now, that for professional field
recordings, especially with anything like higher output mics, the
LS7 is a failure.

Re: Any Olympus recorders that can rewind?

2013-09-07 Thread ken reed

You can set a bookmark with olympus recorders.

If you press the scene buttonru\\during playback or record you set a
bookmark.

This is used for deviding a file.
I don't know how you can extrace the devided portion.
As far as I know you can'tcan't insert in the midle of a file.

Nor can you append to a file.
I have a 520 and an ls7
The 520 is more immediat than the ls7 , because the 7 turns the moniter on
first and this causes you to wate before recording starding starts.

time you press the back or forward keys the recording jumps by the increment
you've set.

I don't think you can set bookmarks with the Olyumpus recorders.

Hi.
I have been reading all the posts about the different Olympus devices.
I am an instructor, and some of my visually impaired students want a
recorder that will allow them to record my lectures, but when playing it
back, be able to rewind just like a cassette recorder to listen to some
great words of wiz dumb that I may have inadvertently said without my
notice.
I have played with some of the basic Olympus digital recorders that the
local division of blind services gives to the students, none of which can't
rewind.
Which of the Olympus recorders can rewind or jump back in a recording like a
cassette?
Do any of them allow setting of bookmarks?

Many thanks.

You can pause, then continue without starting a new file. However, none of
the good-sounding portable recorders allow you to go back to that file later
and append to it like you could do with a cassette. You also can't overwrite
a section if you made a mistake and want to try something again. And you
can't insert. Of course you couldn't do that with a cassette either, but you
can do all these things with any computer recording program or dictation
recorder. So I don't know why you can't do it with the portable music
recorders.

Yeah, it's true. The only advantage to the LS 7is that it's small like a DM
would be. Now you can use condencer mikes with this or the LS 14, but they
have to either be battery powered or consumer pluggin powered. The LS 100
allows you to go pro and use mikes with XLR and Phantum power. I want one.
Think of the LS 100 as something like a talking Zoom H4N with out some of
the other fancy stuff of the H4N. If pro is not your intent, then perhaps
the LS 14 might even be enough. The 7, well if you want it to be really
small like a DM recorder.

The LS7 was nothing more than a glorified dictation recorder. I should
know, I've seen them, and they were not all that dissimilar to my DM520,
which was a dictation recorder.
the LS100 is good for musicians, and was a trendsetter for Olympus
recorders. It is very good...and expensive, of course. If we could all
afford them, we'd all own them, because they are very, very flexable.
How about the LS14? The LS14 is exactly what would happen if the
Olympus LS7 and LS100 had a kid. In general, it's the LS100 in miniature,
but it has the tresmic system from the LS7, but most importantly, the
LS100's microphone preamps, or very similar thereof. It handles high
output microphones very well, it's got smart mode which is really awesome
(check the website), and it does it at a $199 that won't break the bank
too hard.

Thanks,
nick

Re: LS7 OR LS100?

2013-09-07 Thread emma goodwin
What exactly do you want to do. Its difficult to help you if you don't
give us more feedback. I do agree that the LS 14 is a very good
recorder. The LS100 is also an excellent recorder but the LS14 has
longer battery life, a separate line in jack, and overdubbing is
easier then it is on the LS100. You can consider the LS100 if you need
to use condenser microphones. I really like the DM620 as its not as
complicated and technical as the LS14 or LS100 but again we need to
know your needs and then we can get more of an idea. I hope this
helps.

Re: Tapin radio question

2013-09-07 Thread Ketan Kothari

Dear Tapin Radio,

I have a problem: I had to format the computer. I have Windows 7 with 64
bits. I had copied favourites.xml and loaded the file back. I got the
favourites but they appear in reverse order: Z Y X etc. I want them in A B
C order. Please help.

With best wishes,

Ketan

Hi Donald,

If you go to menu/setting/status bar you can set all parameters by
expanding it and arrowing up/down you'll find information you want to be
displayed on the status bar in TR's window. Once you set what you want you
can reach it using screen reader by nvda+end shortcut or jaws+end which
brings up the status bar in all apps that have it available.

In the Status bar submenu you can set e.g. the time in the area of
actively playing station bitrate audio format frequency rate and more
importantly the amount of data you download by listening to either one or
all stations in general since you've last started Tapin-radio.

Is there any way using Tapin radio with a screen reader to accurately
determine the bit rate of the stream which is playing?

Incidentally, I just want to say a big thank you to V tech or whatever
his user name is for providing such great info about the Tapin radio
product. Tapin radio is the greatest.
