Re: More on Multiquence accessibility
It's not the first accessible multi-track recorder. I believe Adobe Audition had JAWS scripts to make it work. Audacity is a free and opensource multi-track recorder as well. I believe there are not any scripts available for said program, but you can use it fine without any scripts whatsoever. - Original Message - From: "Brett Boyer" To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Thursday, November 05, 2009 8:26 PM Subject: Re: More on Multiquence accessibility Sounds good. Re: zenstone versus the ipod
You can also use FairUse4WM to just strip the protection and leave the audio part as is. It's afree program. Do a web search for it. - Original Message - From: "Christopher Chaltain" To: "'PC Audio Discussion List'" Sent: Wednesday, October 14, 2009 10:03 PM Subject: RE: zenstone versus the ipod I totally agree, and I've since retired my two Zen Stones in favor of a Sansa e280 running Rockbox. However, a Zen Stone is going to be easier to use and work right out of the box. If you're looking for the simplest and cheapest off the shelf product to listen to music, audio books or DRM protected files then I'd still recommend the Zen Stone, if you can find one. I don't find any of this hard to do with Rockbox on the Sansa e280, but here are the steps you'd have to go through to get a truly accessible portable media player: 1) Make sure you get a v1 version of the Sansa e200 series. The v2 versions won't work with Rockbox. Note there are other players supported by Rockbox. I also have an iRiver H20 running Rockbox. Check out rockbox.org for the list of supported players. 2) Download and unzip Rockbox to your Sansa e200. To do this you need to make sure the Sansa attaches to your PC as a mass storage device. You'll also need to update the Sansa's boot loader. This is all pretty well documented in the Rockbox documentation. 3) Download the voice file and unzip it onto your Sansa to get the menus to be spoken to you. 4) Download the Voice Box utility to create audio clips for the files and folders on your Sansa. 5) Use something like Sound Taxi to convert your DRM protected files into MP3 files that you can play on your Sansa running Rockbox. None of this is particularly hard, and if you do this, you'll end up with a much more accessible and featured rich portable MP3 player, but it is going to take a little time and a bit of work. -- Christopher chalt...@gmail.com -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Laz Mesa Sent: Wednesday, October 14, 2009 12:38 PM To: Pc-audio Subject: Re: zenstone versus the ipod Well, I can say that I've tried the Zen Stone, which was a screenless one; I've tried Rockbox on a Sansa; and I've tried a 4th generation iPod Nano. IN the past, I had also tried a Samsung Pebble and a chinese-made mp3 player, both of which were screenless. I have to say that the Rockboxed Sansa was most impressive to me. It definitely has more bang for the buck, and I found it to be the most-accessible option for under $100.00 for 2, 4, 6, or 8 GB, expandable memory, FM stereo, voice notes, recording from FM, and playes many different file types, while speaking the menus and being able to set up your folder and file names to be spoken as well. From personal experience, i must say that the learning curve on the iPod side seems a lot more complicated when compared to Rockbox on the Sansa players. Also with the iPods, you have to get used to using iTunes as well! With the Rockboxed Sansa, all you have to do is to copy and paste your files onto your player and off you go. If you'd like to check out what a Sansa can do, you can check out a demo I did which can be downloaded at: http://www.sendspace.com/file/vwwyy8 You can also check out the links in my signature below for more information on how to get a Sansa MP3 player for yourself at an affordable price. Also, is it possible to render just the files separately, such as getting the processed music file with the volume drop in music, but not the voice? I'm not sure if the music file could then be used with other voice files, since the volume drop depends on the specific qualities and volume of the voice that was used in the first place. You should have it to spell, but it doesn't matter. Generating them on the Sansa perfectly fine. I do it all the time. You oculd always use CDex (free), goldwave (not free), total recorder (not free), mp3 direct cut (free), and many more to accomplish the same task. Re: DVD Episode Navigation Question?
It would definatly help if you told us what program you use to play the files. - Original Message - From: To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Friday, April 17, 2009 2:09 PM Subject: DVD Episode Navigation Question? Hi listers. I just recently purchased a set of DVD's containing many episodes of the "Silk Stalkings" TV series. I am having a problem getting past the first 4 episodes on the disks. I KNOW that there are more than 4 episodes on each disk because it states this on the cover that I could read somewhat with K1000. I do not have a DVD drive on my computer so I am trying to play these disks on a little standalone DVD player. I have been trying every key combo I can think of to get past the first 4 episodes including the up and down arrow keys, the select keys and the number pad keys and the previous and next keys and of course, the play button but to no avail. Unfortunately, I have NO sighted assistance available so REALY frustrating!! Has anybody else had this situation and so, how were you able to solve this if you were able. Re: program for correcting jitter errors
CDex can also do this. 1. Open the settings window with the f4 key. 2. Switche to the "CD Drive" tab. 3. Shift+Tab to the "Ripping Method" combo box. 4. Switch to one of the Paranoia modes. Personally, I use "Paranoia, Full" whenever I encounter an error. 5. Tab to the "OK" button, and activate it. 6. Select the track(s) you want to correct, and rip thiem. You can select with standard selection commands. NOTE: Don't forget to put the "Ripping Method" back to "Standard" when done. When Paranoia is on, the rips are slower. I would use your xp system. The two leading programs for recording streams are Replay a/v and Total Recorder. Both are good. I have always preferred Total Recorder. You can download a demo of Replay a/v to try it out, And there are audio tutorials for JAWS users at http://www.applian.com/support-blind.php As for Total Recorder, subscribers to the $9 Sound Computing package have access to several audio tutorials that I created. To modify what I wrote above, if you use Vista, you definitely want to use Replay A/V, and it doesn't work any better with Xp than it does with Vista. Total Recorder is easier to use with Xp. You also might try using Mp3DirectCut for mp3 editting, recording, etc. I find it usable. It just takes a while to get used to, though. As this will be a radio station project, and the files will be played in a 10 minute information loop I have also been looking at perhaps purchasing station playlist. I have tried out some of these files in the Microsoft media player, but I am not happy with the way that they appear on the list. The last time that I tried winamp it seemed to be more user friendly, as I could see the sequence of files that I placed in the play window. Re: stripping audio from an avi file
I would like to get clarifification on this. GoldWave converts the .avi file into mp3. Correct? Replay Converter and Switch gets the actual audio file from the .avi file? The reason I'm asking this, is because I'd like a program to get the audio file from the video file without converting it. An example of this would be Elecard XMuxer Pro. Unfortunately, it is not accessible in my case. I've recently found a program that removes the drm from a file. Then, you can convert it with any program you like that could support regular WMA formats. The program works perfectly with JAWS 9. Re: Winamp turns my speech down while playing a file
Yeah, you must've installed Bop It from LightTechInteractive. It changes you volume configgeration to surround sound. here's how you fix it. 1. Press insert+f11, go down to the volume icon, and press enter. Down errow to: Ajust audio properties. 1.1. If you're not using JAWS, presss windows key+b, down errow to volume, press the applications ey, or shift+f10, and down errow to: Ajust audio properties. 1.2. If you can't do either of the steps outlined above, do the following: Go to your control pannel and find the Sounds and Audio Devices icon. Press enter on it. If you're not already on the volume tab, go to it now. 2. Press alt+D or find the speeker volume advanced button. Press enter or the space bar on it. 3. Once you press Alt+D, you should be in the speaker setup dialogue box saying that you're current setup is Surround sound speakers. Errow to the actual setup that you have, and press enter. NOTE: Once you start the BoP It Ultimate game again, it'll go back to Surround sound speakers again. Re: Skype. Should I upgrade?
Hi, Q. If I do upgrade do I have to get rid of these scripts and install the newer ones? A. No, you can just install the newer scripts on top of your old ones. Q. do I have to completely uninstall skip or can I install overtop of what I have. A. You can just install the newer version of skip on top of the old version. Q. What's the newest version I can use with Jaws and what benefits would I get compared to what I have now. A. The newest version of skip that you can use is either 3.1 or 3.2 beta. I'm not sure what the benefits are but, one is a better sound quality. Hope that helps! ---- From, Timothy Wynn Email and Windows Live Messenger: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Skype Name: timothy-garfield E-mail me first. - Original Message - From: "Joe" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "PC audio discussion list. I realize when your using a screen reader like Jaws as I am using Jaws 7, newer is not always better when it comes to upgrading other programs. Skype is working well and I have no problems with it. I also use scripts for skype. If I do upgrade do I have to get rid of these scripts and install the newer ones? do I have to completely uninstall skype or can I install overtop of what I have. Last question. What's the newest version I can use with Jaws and what benefits would I get compared to what I have now. That's a lot of questions, but I want to cover everything. I'm not one of those who has to have the newewst software just because its out especially if what I have is still working well. Thanks. Joe.
