Yes Ventrilo is perfectly accessible with win-eyes. No set files required.

It doesn't seem that you can do this with Wave pad. You will need a program
like soundforge which will let you work with a single chanel.

Re: music folder time duration

2005-01-20 Thread djc
Winamp can do this for you. Generate your playlist in winamp or select the
tracts you want and then in the winamp playlist editor type control-alt-g
and it will generate a report in html for you showing you the length of
each track and the total time. Here's what it looks like:

WINAMP
playlist
3 tracks in playlist, average track length: 1:05
Playlist length: 3 minutes 15 seconds
Right-click
here
 to save this HTML file.
Playlist files:
1. a different world (1:10)
2. 77 sunset strip (1:04)
3. 227 (1:01)

Re: Midi Files?

2005-01-18 Thread djc
I'd try a program called midi to wave converter. That one will do it for
you. Sorry I don't have a url but it can be found easily enough. That's One
choice. You also could use such a program as Recall Pro from
http://sagebrush.com as that program will allow you to select your midi
synth and record in to recall pro.

Re: capturing streams question

2005-01-13 Thread djc
May I suggest Mediarecorder which is a free stream ripper. Basically you
put in the radio station you want to record and set the time for recording.
Say you only want 1 hour of record time you can set that. You also can set
the date and time feature so if your not at home it will record the stream
assuming the power has not gone out. I like it quite well and use it now
and again to capture streams. It will capture any shoutcast streams. It is
not designed to capture windows media as far as I know. You can pick this
free tool up from:

Re: What have they done to Easy CDDa Extractor

2005-01-04 Thread djc
I won't defend your statements here Mr. Robinson because the program works
just fine here. I'm using win-eyes here and I am having no trouble at all
with the program. I am slightly behind on my email and perhaps your
questions have already been answered but if not please let us know what
screen reader you are using so we can help you. I do understand your
frustration and I certainly share your concerns but this is a sighted
world. If you have a complaint perhaps a nice email to the author could get
things resolved for you.

Re: Help with a microphone problem

2004-12-16 Thread djc
First it seems that both people need to be running the same version of msn
messenger so I'd first check that. Then I'd check the fire wall settings.
It seems to me that msn doesn't work all that well for chat any more. It's
more hassle then it's worth and I suggest either Ventrilo which is
excellent or a service such as for the people or audio tips. There was a
time when msn's chat worked great but that's a long time ago.

Re: Any Recommendation for New Computer Speakers?

2004-12-05 Thread djc
I'd check at outpost.com for them as you can get some excellent prices. I
have a set of creative labs speakers and these have a volume control that
is on the end of a wire and sits on my desk. This is a 3 piece set with 2
tweeters on the desk and a sub woofer on the floor. I've always been happy
with these and I only paid probably 30 bucks or so.

Re: problem with skype answerphone

2004-12-04 Thread djc
What you have to do is make sure that the answering machine is associated
with Skype. Start up skype first and then start up the answering machine.
You should see the property's window for the answering machine but also you
should see a skype window that will have radio buttons to ask you how you
want this answering machine to connect. Once you set the radio button tell
that window ok and you'll be good to go.

Re[2]: Alternative to total recorder?

2004-11-28 Thread djc
Before you give up on mediarecorder you want to make sure that the station
your trying to record is indeed up and running or you will get that error.
Also you do need to set up the length of time you want to record. You can't
just launch the program and press the record button. It doesn't work that
way.

It works great and it's freeware. Give it a try and see if that helps you.

Check out this Speech enabled search Engine. This tool is similar to Google
but is different in the fact that it uses Speech to speak the results. It's
rather Unique and certainly falls in to the category of Pc-Audio

Timidity++

2004-11-16 Thread djc
Timidity++ is a realtime midi to wave and wave to midi synthesizer. I can't
seem to get any sound out of it. I'm wondering if someone could take a look
at this windows freeware synthesizer and see what can be done. It is
available at http://timidity.sourceforge.net/ and from many other sites.
The latest release for windows is 2.130. Thanks.

Re[2]: audio help files for MP3DirectCut

2004-11-10 Thread djc
Thanks Rob for an excellent Job. I'd like to explain that once and a while
you may run in to a strange problem with mp3 direct cut. Have you heard an
mp3 that has a loud tick at the beginning of the file? I had one this
morning and mp3 direct cut refused to play the file. I could page up and
down but I couldn't fix this file with mp3 direct cut as the loud tick was
stopping the file from playing. It ticked and then there was a second and
the music would start but mp3 direct cut couldn't fix it so I had to take
it in to Sound Forge and fix it their. Mp3 Direct cut is a fine editor but
I would use it in conjunction with your other editing tools.

Re[2]: mp3 direct cut

2004-11-09 Thread djc
I also use this fast program all the time. I record my shows on Saturday
evenings and when I go on the air I stream to a server and then my stream
is relayed to the regular broadcast server. So I put the stream on the air
a few minutes early and put up an Instrumental till I hear the switch at
the main server and then I know it's time to go. When I finish my 3 hour
show I just load it in to mp3 direct cut and kill the instrumental portion
at the beginning up to where my show starts. When the show is rebroadcasted
on Wednesday evenings it doesn't have the instrumental portion so it comes
on clean. This is a fantastic little program and easy to use.

Harddiskogg

2004-10-21 Thread djc
This item came in through the Langa List Newsletter and since this question
is asked all the time I thought I'd share this software with you. i've
downloaded this but haven't had a chance yet to play with it.

An essential and free tool for recording anything from your
Microphone or Line In inputs which automatically converts to
several digital formats is HarddiskOgg. You can find it at
 http://www.fridgesoft.de/harddiskogg.php The unique advantage
of this program is adjustable "on the fly" normalization. Works
great for recording live or for copying LPs and cassette tapes.

Re[2]: Audacity.

2004-10-17 Thread djc
There is a windows installer for it and I've taken a look at it. It's just
a simple editor allowing you to mix sounds. It would be ok for simple
production. It is freeware. I didn't find it all that speech friendly
though. it does have some keyboard commands but say I want to put a sound
in the middle of another sound. I couldn't understand how to do that. It
reminded me of sound recorder but with more features.

Re: Turtlebeach cards.

2004-10-07 Thread djc
I have a turtle beach santa cruz in one of my machines. It works great but
the control panel is not real accessible. They have a few presets for echo
and such but you won't be concerned with them. Personally i'd buy one of
the new Creative external cards that plug in to your USB 2.0 ports. These
cards are the cleanest I've ever heard with no distortion and you can move
the card from machine to machine. There still a little pricey but well
worth the money.

Re: Tv tuner cards and related issues.

2004-10-04 Thread djc
How much do you want to actually spend Don really is the question because
all prices Are different. I Just Bought An new All in wonder 8X Video card
for a new machine that I am building and i paid
230 for it at Frys. It depends on what you want. This new card I can't
comment on just yet since we're still getting parts together for this new
machine and i won't be able to comment on the new machine till the
beginning of 2004 but let me say that the all in wonder is rated quite
high. It's all video and a tv stereo tuner card so it would be a good one.
Always try and think about what you'd like and what you are willing to
spend. I haven't built a new system in 3 years and it's time for me
although this machine runs fantastic but time to update to new and
hopefully greater technology. Look at it this way if you put in cheap fans
they will give you trouble. My honest recommendation for products is
Outpost.com which is Frys Electronics. They can sell you stuff at great
prices for the most part. We have built oh goodness dozens of systems on my
dining room table for people and rarely have we ever had to return stuff to
frys. Pinical makes a great card for around 80. I understand the software
is quite excessible. it's a tv tuner card with video. Now if tv tuning is
not your interest then you can find video cards for 12 bucks but be aware
that you will want to make sure that your mother board will support the
card. I hope this info is helpful.

A Couple Of Programs Worth Noting

2004-09-20 Thread djc
I offer the following information for your Education and Enjoyment. This
information originally came from http://lockergnome.com

I'm a big fan of streaming media, and I'm sure that you are, too. Streaming
content is everywhere these days, and I'm not going to complain about it.
The audio and video that can be delivered to us makes the whole online
experience much more than just reading text on a screen. Streaming content
is great, but what if you want to play it back at a future date? This is
one of the things that many users ask about, and it's important to mention
that there are software options out there. One of them is called
MediaRecorder. This program brings a VCR style interface to streaming
media. You enter in the source of the audio or video file that you want to
record, and then select a file to record to. The recording options are
fantastic for those of you who will not be around your computer when the
stream you love is aired. You can set it to record on a timer right off the
bat, or you may choose to select a start and end date. MediaRecorder
appears to work fairly well, and it should be a breath of fresh air for
anyone who wants to archive his or her favorite streams.

 QuickMix v1.05 [347M] [Win9x/2k/XP] [FREE]
Rabid audiophiles usually aren't content with one solitary sound scheme on
their computer. They usually change these settings frequently, and it's all
for a good reason. Different applications and projects will sometimes
require you to tweak your sound options. Opening up the mixer and making
these slight adjustments can become tedious after you've done it a
gazillion times. QuickMix allows you to save multiple mixer settings, and
then restore them whenever you need to make a change. To use the program,
all you have to do is set the mixer to the way you like it, and then open
QuickMix and save it. The ability to save many different versions of your
mixer settings makes this a very useful application. You can name each file
after the program or project that it is associated with, and use QuickMix
to bring the settings back to life. I hardly ever have to toy with the
mixer, but if I did, this program would definitely be convenient.

Re: cd burners

2004-09-12 Thread djc
Yes I would so there is. If something is working real well for you don't
fix it unless you really want to try something new. I had used Roxio easy
cd creator6 for the longest time and then one day I tried Nero. I found
once I got past the learning curv of Nero I really liked it. Also Roxio
installs tons of programs that are not screen reader friendly. Nero has
these as well but they are much smaller in size. Nero won't bog the machine
down. That's been my experience. You have nothing to lose by giving new
programs a try. Once you find one you like uninstall the other ones and
stick with it.

Tv Tuner Cards

2004-08-22 Thread djc
I've been chatting about software that drives tv tuner cards and I'd be
interested if you own one to please tell us of your experience. I
understand for example that Pinacle makes a great tv tuner card and the
software is quite accessible with Window-eyes. Another company that makes
fairly accessible software to control the tv tuner card is Leadtek so I
understand. I'd be interested to know your experience if you own one of
these tv tuner cards. For example some tv chanels scroll such things as
news headlines on the screen. My friend who uses the Pinacle software tells
me that through a web page He can actually read these headlines and so
forth.

Re: Capturing Streaming Audio, to Hard Drive...

2004-06-22 Thread djc
Hi Mac. You probably will get different answers to this question but for
recording streaming audio a good program that works well is Total Recorder
from:
http://highcriteria.com

This is an excellent tool. There are plugins for Winamp such as Stream
Ripper that also will record streams.

2004-06-09 Thread djc
Just wanted to comment on this plugin. i've tried it and it actually works
pretty good. It is an imput plugin so the first thing you will want to do
is once installed bring up the preferences and then configure it for the
speech you will want to use. It seems from what i can tell to use sapi4 and
I also have a few other voices here and it seems to work with them. You can
adjust the rate but not the pitch. Once you have it adjusted just type l in
winamp and locate the text you'd like to read and it will read it for you
using the standard winamp keys. This is pretty cool.

Winamp should play the book but you may need a plugin for mp4. I don't know
if the new winamp supports mp4 without adding the mp4 plugin.

Fixing Audio Cd's in XP

2004-04-27 Thread djc
When I insert an audio cd in to my machine it calls the drive itself and
not winamp even though winamp is checked. If I right click on a .cda file
and choose winamp it shows unchecked and when I check that association and
hit ok it will call winamp but if I take the cd out and put it back in it
calls the drive again. Running xp coperate. Any suggestions welcome. This
is a strange error for sure. It's probably a registry key that needs to be
fixed but I have no idea. I honestly don't know if it's ever worked under
xp.
