GoldWave recording question

2014-09-13 Thread Michael Amaro

Hello Listers,
I recently installed GoldWave version 5.70 on my windows 7 64 bit laptop. When
I start recording, after a few seconds or so it brings up a control dialog with
a play button a rewind button and so on. How can I keep it from doing this?
Using jaws 13.

Thanks
Michael

soundforge recording question for conferences

2010-03-06 Thread dan thompson
Hi All, Yesterday I attempted to use Sound Forge 9.1 on an hp laptop using
win-xp to record a phone conference. The recording stopped after around 5 or
ten minutes. The meeting was around 1.5 hours. I didn't know this until
checking after the mmetting was over.
I fortunatly had a victor stream as backup.

The steps I used for recording were.
1. Press control plus r.
2. Press alt plus r to start recording.
3. Press escape to stop the recording.
4. Pressed the spacebar to listen to the recording and only 5 to ten minutes
was there.

What is the maximum for recording with Soundforge and what did I do wrong?
We would actually like to use this process for recording in the future. Thanks
for any help in advance.

Re: soundforge recording question for conferences

2010-03-06 Thread Robert Nelson

Dan,

Go into the record dialog with control+r.

shift tab until you get to a combo box called method.

It should be set to normal.

Do not set it to one of the automatic settings because one of those will
automatically end recording after a fixed time which, in your case, was 10
minutes. However, it is a useful function if you are doing something like
unattended recording from a cassette and you want the recording to finish
after 45 minutes.

Hope this helps

Hi,

Many thanks for the response. I've encountered a problem though, in that
when I select my recording device, which is an external usb audio interface
there doesn't appear to be a line-in option available.

I'll try it on another pc and see what happens.

Cheers, and thanks again.

Hi,

I'm completely new to goldwave, and in fact to pc based recording in
general, so I'd welcome some assistance please.

I've figured out how to make a recording, but the level of the recorded

I'd like to know how to ajust the line-in recording level, and also any
tips on setting the levels accurately given that we don't have access to
the peak meters.

Any help much appreciated, as I wish to record something later this
evening.

Many thanks in advance,

Re: Goldwave recording question

2009-10-30 Thread Dane trethowan

Hi!

I own Goldwave but recording is about the one thing I've not done with
the product as yet smile, the easiest way to adjust levels in
Goldwave is to adjust them in your Volume Control settings, you'll
find these under accessaries, Entertainment and Volume control.

actually if you look in the Goldwave Manual, this is the suggested
method that the author of the software talks about to set your
recording levels, you can find the manual under Help in Goldwave, the
manual is probably one of the best manuals I've seen in all my time on
computers, well laid out and extremely easy to navigate.

RE: Recording Question

2008-02-02 Thread John Sanfilippo
Hi,

I sometimes use a plexTalk, the first model, not the second. Think of it
like a cassette recorder: If you record a song, say, and just begin playing
the piano just after you press record, that's what you will hear when you
play back the tape from the very beginning. So, after you've initialized
your new recording file, I forget just how at this second, you press the
record key, once to get ready, a second time to actually record, and begin
reciting the title, unless you'd rather not announce the title for some
reason.

Now, if you mean, how do you give it a digital name, as in how do you name
the plextalk's files, basically, you don't. That is all handled by plexTalk.
It creates folders with names like,

Bookdir00
Bookdir01
Bookdir02

And inside each folder are one or more mp3 files and some management files.
The mp3 files have names like,

A1.mp3,
A2.mp3

What I would do, to be safe, is copy those a.mp3 files somewhere else,
leaving the original files untouched. Then go rename the copies to your
heart's content, keeping the mp3 extension, of course.

Hth,
Js

2008-02-02 Thread DJ DOCTOR P
Hello Ladies and Gentle Men,
I don't have that peace of software and or a good idea on how to use it.
But I do know a thing or 2 about renaming files and folders.
Step 1. Hit your application key.
You will see or hear a submenu that says, context menu, properties, p.
Step 2. Hit your up arrow key just once.
You will see or here, rename, r.
Step 3. Hit your inter key and start typing the name that you want to call
the file and or folder and hit the inter key, it's all done!
If you're renaming an MP3 file, type the name you wish to call the file,
after that, type .MP3, and press inter, and you're all done there too!

Why do you use the bbc embedded player whilst there are much simpler
options? You can redirect it to either windows media player or real

Larry,
I've never used the paid service so couldn't say for sure, but that
sounds like a self-serving approach on their part. I should think it
wouldn't hurt to try to switch to another player if you can. You may
find the Winamp interface easier particularly if you want to bookmark a
stream and if the quality is good for listening you should get a good
recording. I guess I'm one of those folks who just uses embedded
players when I have to, smile, and probably just the only site where I
do use their player consistently is the BBC site.

Larry,
I've never used the paid service so couldn't say for sure, but that
sounds like a self-serving approach on their part.

Re: recording question with live 365

2005-03-02 Thread Larry N
Hi there. I use the Live 365 player because as far as I know I have to do
that in order to receive the preferred member content that I am paying for.
If I access a stream on WMP or Winamp I receive the ads and lower quality
streams that I'm paying to avoid. Plus streams are blocked when they reach
a certain number of free users, which I also want to avoid. So then I guess
the question comes down to this. Is there a way to play Live 365 preferred
content through Winamp or WMP?

Hi
Why do you use the bbc embedded player whilst there are much simpler
options? You can redirect it to either windows media player or real
player. Once you get the particular station playing in windows media
player you can then bookmark it and you never have to faff on the web
site again.

Hamish,
i'm sure I could, force of habit, grin. I have tended to use it for
archived shows but would assume I could bookmark them from RealPlayer,
right? Actually, I have the tara plugin and Winamp configured to play all
the file associations it can, so wonder if that will work. Guess I'll have
to have a play with it.

recording question with live 365

2005-03-01 Thread Larry N
I've signed up for Live 365's preferred member plan in order to listen with
higher quality. It sounds great until I record a stream using Total
Recorder. TR requires that alternative driver thing which may work well for
them, but I don't think a lot of it. My Live 365 stream recordings come out
distorted and somewhat muffled. That being said, I'm looking for new
software for the purpose. Any suggestions? Has anyone tried recording a
stream from a service that employs its own player using Replay Radio? It is
the use of a stream specific player which seems to create issues for Total
recorder.

I suggest your recording volume in Total Recorder could be lowered. I

Larry,
I suspect that Dean is right and that changing the volume settings in Total
Recorder may help. However, you might also try playing the stream through
Winamp rather than the Live 365 player, particularly if you've been
successful with Total Recorder and other streams. I can't remember the
steps for changing players but it isn't that difficult. hth.

Dean, actually the volume sounded okay. It was the quality that was off...
more dull than distorted. Do you have to switch to the total recorder

Susan, I can certainly do a quality comparison between Winamp and their
player. If when listening to Winamp I don't get the interuptions that I'm
paying to avoid, I guess I'll have the answer on whether there's a
difference. At any rate, thanks much for the thought and I know what you

Re: Total recorder recording question

2005-01-01 Thread Susan Wojtecki
Antonio,
Not sure if this was answered, but you will find the properties dialog from
within your volume control settings. By default it is set to show playback
settings, so go to volume, hit Alt-F and down arrow once until it says
options then once more to properties and press enter. Now tab once and you
are in a dialog where you are presented with playback and recording choices.
Down arrow once to recording and press enter and you will see the recording
options for your soundcard. I believe only one of these can be checked, at
least with my Soundblaster Live card this is true, so you probably want to
check the What You Hear or Mixer device or whatever this is called on your
soundcard. Hope this helps.

How do I get to recording properties, and to play back properties?

the place I can go to change recording source is in

recording source and parameters, and I was able to record Jaws with

selected Mixed output,

the other options I have in this dialogue are

CD
Microphone
Line
Auxiliary
video
Modem
Mixed output

My sound card is

Antonio! It is possible to record from the Line In and Microphone
simultaneously. What Sound Card do you have. In most cases you would
select What You Hear or Mixer or Stereo Mixer from the Recording
properties then check the Line Level and Microphone in the Playback
 Properties.

well you don't need to switch to soundboard recording at all, as long as you
