New Olympus E330 with Live preview
The cherry on the top of a raft of new Olympus products today is the new E-330 (to be known in North America as the 'Olympus EVOLT E-330'). The E-330 has a similar appearance to the E-300 (although slightly narrower) and inherits many improvements seen on the E-500, however it has one major new feature. The seven-point-five megapixel E-330 is the first digital SLR designed to provide a full-time live view on its LCD monitor while still providing a usable through-the-lens viewfinder. It provides two live view modes, the first uses a small CCD sensor integrated into the viewfinder chamber, the second mode uses the main sensor but this blocks the viewfinder and disables auto-focus. We have a detailed hands-on preview of the E-330 available. more here: http://www.dpreview.com/news/0601/06012606olympuse330evolt.asp -- Thibouille -- *ist-D,Z1,SFXn,SuperA,KX,MX, P30t and KR-10x ...

Ok, let's do it bridge camera way. One embedded lens, like Olympus IS serie but still SLR. 2006/1/26, Jens Bladt [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Naahh... Point and Shoot cameras are already very small. And the zoom lenses are quite good. Noone would wnat to change lenes on a small DSLR. The Ds is already quite small. It's easy to choose a DSLR if that's what you want. Or a very small mobile phone style digital camera - if that's what you want. I don't believe a digital 110 would be very successful. After all the 110 is a camera made for 110-film. And film cameras don't sell a lot anymore. With CCD's it's possible to make cameras in many sizes. In fact - they are already available. People whi wnat small cameras don't want to fiddle with small exchangeable lenses. Gang, This is not really meant as a survey, but it would be interesting to hear other people's preferences. Counting exposures made in 2005, my most used lens was the D-FA 16-45/4 zoom. 1. Tokina ATX PRO II 28-70/2.6-2.8 my first and still the most used K-mount lens. 2. Tamron 70-300/4-5.6 (mostly for its 150-300 range -mostly head and shoulders shots from a distance, at concerts, events, etc.). I started using Tokina 19-35/3.5-4.5 much more often (especially for architectural shots during my trip to Europe), but still, not as often as 28-70. RE: Which lens do you use most?
With my MZ-5n, the lens most used was the FA 28-105 3.2-4.5. I find it to have a very convenient range and I wish Pentax offered a 18-70 for digital. Then, in Novemeber came the Ds, along with a 18-55, this one from a PDMLer. But, to my surprise, I find myself using a lot the FA35/2, which I like for indoor shots at ISO 800 without flash. I've had a lot of fun with it. I find the 18-55 too short at the long end (that's why I switched from 28-70 to 28-105 in film), but at the moment, it is the only (cheap) way to go wide. RE: Which lens do you use most?
2005 was the year I returned to primes and left the zooms at home. I got better contrast, colour saturation and resolution. And more exercise! But I think I'll stick with genuine Pentax lenses in future... The 28mm F2.8 Pentax-A is my favourite at the moment. If you take a look on eBay you'll see how many people got conned into buying a good camera with a crappy lens. The disappointing reults they got led to the rise of digital cameras where crappy lenses are par for the course.

Re: Which lens do you use most?
For 99% of my shots I use 77ltd. Back in film days my favorite was the 135/2.8 so it figures. If I have to go wider, I use Sigma EX 20/1.8. If I have to get closer I use Sigma EX 180/3.5 macro. 43ltd does nothing for me. I tried 28/2.8 AL but got a weird feeling in the stomach every time I looked through the viewfinder. Krisjanis

Although there are a number of criticisms of the camera (eg: shutter lag, no IS), there is no criticism of the sensor itself. Whilst it might not have received aclaim, it hasn't received brickbats either. The impression one is left with is that the sensor does the job perfectly satisfactorily. Samsung is one of the world's biggest chip makers, so I would not expect them to have too much difficulty producing a larger sensor of similar quality. Re: *ist DL2
Hi, there's a BIG difference - Pentax film bodies are more or less technically perfect, there's actually nothing missing, both from quality and handling. I am very satisfied with my Z-1p. Digitals are the whole different story - quality of current 6MPix chip used in Pentaxes do not satisfy me. And there ARE much better chips and ergonomics found at other manufacturers cameras. I do review couple of cameras for our local computer/digital photography magazine every month - so I really have had cameras to compare with. Lately reviewed Nikon D200 blows the whole *ist D family away *hands down*... I'm not going to say a word about Canon 5D. I'm sorry, I even do consider this dirt-cheap Olympus E-500 better than *ist DL... Re: *ist DL2
Having played with one: MF lens compatibility (Even matrix meters with AI lenses, no stop-down metering, and does proper Aperture priority). this was the biggest weakness of the D100, D70(s) and D50 and Nikon has fixed it in spades (the D200 is one of the few bodies Nikon ever made that matrix meters with non-CPU lenses) Build. Better even than the D. This feels like a pro body, it's build nearly as well as an F100. Speed. Faster AF, MUCH bigger buffer, MUCH faster write speeds. Image quality, well unless you got one of the bodies with banding issues (Rare but not enough for it to be a non-issue), the image quality is noticably better (6-10MP is a much more noticable jump than 6-8MP). Better high-ISO performance (Not a big deal, even the D blows film out of the water at ISO 800 and above). 1/250 flash sync vs 1/180. Big deal for outdoors. Plus there's an available i-TTL macro setup as well as an i-TTL tilt/swivel head flash (Pentax can't match the former currently and the latter is waiting on the delayed AF540FGZ) Ergonomics are similar I find, except for the AE/AF-L button, which is much easier to find without looking on the D200 than on any of the *ist's (The D is particularly bad here, you'll almost always hit the exp comp button instead, it's the D's biggest ergonomic problem). Overall I slightly prefer the D's ergonomics though, apart from the mildly annoying AE-Lock button issue. -Adam Shel Belinkoff wrote: In what ways do you find the D200 superior to the Pentax cameras? RE: Which lens do you use most?
This is kind of an odd question in a way, because the answer(s) to it will lead one to what conclusion(s)? Off the top of my head, I use whatever lens is appropriate to the subject, circumstances, and composition I'm attempting to capture. :-) I've been favoring the FA 31/1.8 LTD quite heavily. If I need a longer mid range lens I use the FA 100/2.8 macro. If I need a lens to use because I'm not sure what I'll be shooting or I need to react quickly, I'll use the Tamron 28-300. Tom C.
